Never again! They seem to think old is always the same with classic or historic… Outdated, dusty and dark room, very old furniture and… physical big heavy key to open room in 2022! Cleaning could also be improved, breakfast is disappointing and staff attitude mostly indifferent. I would say they clearly don’t deserve the 5 star rating. The 4 star hotel I stayed in Florence during the same trip was 10 times better.

A beautiful luxury hotel. We stayed here for a long weekend in Feb 2023. The staff are beyond welcoming, courteous and helpful, we arrived early and received a free room upgrade and shown to our room straight away. The room was beautiful. Try the eggs Benedict at breakfast, it is the best eggs Benedict you will have bar none. We had dinner one evening in the I Carracci restaurant, a sublime meal with sublime service - Michelin star standard.

The hotel is beautiful and the location is perfect. The rooms are comfortable and the front desk staff are very polite. However, a few things bothered me during my stay that I wouldn’t expect from a 5 star hotel. 1. They kicked me out of the lounge area (where the bar is) once the bar closed. I understand that the bar has closing hours but don’t understand why hotel guests wouldn’t be able to just sit and have a conversation in a hotel common area, especially since it’s far from the rooms and wouldn’t bother other guests. 2. One night when I was returning to my room a night staff quite rudely screamed at me from the lobby (I was in the stairs almost reaching the first floor) “can I help you” - quite suspicious of me as if I was a intruder and not a guest. 3. Breakfast is not appetizing at all and staff was not welcoming. Some items are charged extra. Charging extra for eggs Benedict in a 5 stars hotel is a little ridiculous in my opinion. I only had a cappuccino and didn’t even bother attending breakfast the other days. For the price and considering I only stayed 3 nights, it was enough to put me off staying there again next time - and I was planning to visit bologna again soon.

It’s a great location and a charmingly dated environment but truly not worth the cost — the bathroom fixtures are cheap and dated. My shower had this cheap plastic enclosure you find in student dorms. Average breakfast spread. You can hear other rooms (including those above). I travel a lot and stay in many of these premium hotels and can attest that for this price (esp in Italy) on can stay in much better put together properties. At €250 - €300 this would be a good deal, not at €500+

I travel to Bologna every year (for the past 25 years) and dining at their 5 star restaurant Restoranti I Carracci for the last 10 years . Have been happy with service this year. I ordered a fish when I received it it was not to my liking. I told the Maître d’ that it tasted a little too “fishy” for me. I’ve had that fish before and never had a problem with it. The maître d’ took it back and I ordered a fillet. I receive my bill with the fish still on it. I advised the maître d’ (assuming it would be taken off of bill. He advised me that the chef disagreed with me and he would not take it off my bill. I told him that I was also a business owner and I understood that I would pay for half of it. The maître d’ came back again and told me that Chef said “there’s nothing wrong with the fish” and left It at that. I cancelled my dinner reservation I had for the next evening with 12 of my business partners and I told them that I would not be back again. It was very disappointing that a five star restaurant handled the situation so poorly.

Now this is truly a 5 star hotel. Service, amenities, suites, it is top tier in every aspect. Bologna is a special city of culture, food and entertainment and this hotel tops off your experience. I would recommend it to all my friends!

We spent two nights here in July during a longer trip in Italy. The location is spectacular right in the middle of the city and it is certainly the nicest hotel in Bologna. The service in the hotel was great. Our room was very large and grand but the spaces could probably use some updating.

Beautiful grand hotel in the heart of bologna. Excellent service and culinary choices. The room was not big and the shower was in the bathtub so it is not perfect, but that is not what you expect in a hotel with so much history.

The hotel is lovely. Historic and beautifully decorated. Fantastic location! Right in the center of everything. Close to restaurants (go to Ristorante da Nello one block away!), near the subways, and two blocks from the main plaza where the main shopping + restaurant area is. Across from the hotel is a nice grocery store. The service is great. Everyone at the hotel is friendly, welcoming, and professional. And everyone speaks English. The bellmen, the front desk staff (the three Andreas!), the breakfast room staff, the housekeepers…everyone is fantastic! We had a junior Suite with a large terrace and it was beautiful. Great view! Very spacious room with a nice bathroom and huge walk in closet. The bed was comfortable and the sitting area was big. The breakfast buffet is excellent and the staff is fantastic, especially Marcella. There were two things we did not like at the hotel: (1) they never had change at the front desk/cashier, so it was very difficult for us to get small bills (5€ and 10€ notes) for tipping. Not once during our week-long stay did they have change, which is extremely annoying…especially when they have a large sign that says cashier on the front desk. (2) The room service is hit or miss. Sometimes the service on the phone is friendly and other times it’s rude. And the tagliatelle bolognese is an embarrassment! The noodles were dry and sticky (as if they had been cooked an hour prior to serving and not tossed in any sauce), and the bolognese ragu/sauce was nonexistent - it was just ground/minced beef with no saucy juices, no seasoning, nothing but ground beef. Crazy! We’d definitely stay here again and highly recommend it!

Unexpected Charges Diminished Our Experience My wife and I were looking forward to our stay at the Grand Hotel Gia Baglioni, drawn by its reputation for excellence and the promise of a five-star experience. Unfortunately, our anticipation was met with a disappointing encounter right at check-in. Despite the room being booked under the assumption that the rate would cover two guests, as is customary in many establishments of this caliber, we were informed of an additional charge of €100 for my wife. We were taken aback by this policy, which was not clearly communicated at the time of booking. It’s not the extra charge that is at issue but the principle, especially considering the prestige of the hotel. This experience has been quite disheartening and not reflective of the high standards one would expect from a renowned hotel. In a world where clarity and customer satisfaction are paramount, this was a misstep in service. While the rest of the hotel’s offerings are as grand as its name suggests, this policy and the lack of upfront communication have unfortunately tarnished our overall experience. We hope that this review will serve as constructive feedback for the hotel to improve its communication with future guests, ensuring that the only surprises they encounter are the delightful kind.

A great location and fantastic service could not overcome the hotel itself. Small rooms, leaking showers, lack of high end amenities just to name a few. Keep you expectations in check to avoid disappointment

It’s a 5 star hotel and the experience proves it. The entire staff was incredible and even not speaking Italian it was super easy to communicate

I have stayed here several times. This is a wonderful hotel primarily because of the very gracious accommodating staff. The rooms are spotless, with great beds, very good shower and AC. Very centrally located.

Arrived in Bologna early morning, with a few hours to spare after a long bus ride over night. Management were very accommodating and managed to squeeze me in for breakfast on short notice & despite externals typically not being able to eat before 9am. Buffet style breakfast was typical continental and standard 5-star quality. Enjoyed my short breakfast with them and grateful to the friendly staff most of all who went above and beyond.

The location of this hotel is amazing. You are in the middle of the city so everything is within walking distance. I stayed there for a weekend and I had such a pleasant experience. The service is super friendly, they arranged for my birthday a beautiful bouquet. I loved the interior design and the style of this hotel; very elegant and sophisticated. I would definitely come back!

Absolutely fabulous! A real grand hotel in the heart of Bologna. Old fashioned 5 star hotel service with very friendly and well trained staff. We had a great 4 day stay there. Oh, they still have the old-fashioned keys instead of key cards! Two housekeeping services per day the way it is supposed to be with daily and turn down service. The breakfast is fantastic and the bar staff is as good as they come. Highly recommended.

Best hotel in bologna. Rooms have a very renaissance opulent feel that felt like a lot at first but really grew on us. Great restaurant and breakfast. The spice girls stayed there so that’s pretty cool.

Being a frequent traveller to Bologna for business, I have stayed at the Gia Baglioni on several occasions but March proved particularly tricky with 3 visits in 12 days with different clients! However from the initial reservations, to the front desk, restaurant staff, bar staff, breakfast staff, everything was on point on each visit and my clients commented on how happy they were to stay here and what a great experience they had (never a bad thing). The splendour and elegance of a hotel is one thing but if the staff who work there are not trained correctly or have the wrong attitude, it will sour your stay but this hotel has a staff unrivalled anywhere in my view and I would like to take the opportunity to thank each and every one of them. The restaurant I Carracci is a fantastic fine dining experience with fresco painted ceilings, the bar Cafe Martinelli has a lovely retro vibe to it and Domenico the bar manager can make you literally anything you like. Breakfast can be taken in the open courtyard (weather permitting) which is a lovely start to the day, the staff are always smiling and they can also make anything a la carte for you if the buffet is not offering what you need / want. Attention to detail is of the utmost importance in this establishment. Couple this with the fine furniture and artwork in the hallways, beautiful rooms, marbled bathrooms and an unrivalled location, 2 minute walk from Piazza Maggiore (where you can see inside the stunning Basilica di San Petronio) or 5 minutes from Galleria Cavour, cathedral opposite, I am not sure what else the Gia Baglioni can offer that I would ever need. Fantastico! Mickey M

Our stay at Grand Hotel Majestic “già Baglioni” in Bologna was fantastic! We were a group of 15 rooms and stayed for 2 nights, the feel and vibe of the hotel brings you back in time with its decoration and interior. The staff were very professional and accommodating non-stop requests :) The meeting rooms are so stylish and historical. The rooms are relatively big for Europe standards of rooms.

Amazing experience at the GH Majestic! All facilities, food and staff are extraordinary. And, on top of that, there’s a person (Miriam Constantino) in charge of Guest Relations that makes the difference and converts your stay on a truly outstanding luxury experience.

Everything about the Grand Hotel Majestic was perfect, from the welcoming check-in, to the elegant antique-furnished room, to the wonderful breakfast with staff that remembered our preferences. The front desk staff provided expert advice on attractions, restaurants, transportation, and they even made last-minute reservations for these, when needed. Location is ideal, and we walked everywhere. The Grand Hotel Majestic made our stay comfortable, effortless, and memorable.

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel! Everything was 5 star - the accommodations, the food, the desk staff and concierge, the immediate attention to any request, the location. An excellent hotel.

Stayed in the lovely Grand hotel Majestic Gia Baglioni for two nights in late November. Nice location, just right in the old town center, within walking distance to the shops or attractions. Business people may prefer to stay in hotels close to the train station, while I prefer to be central located. Friendly and welcoming staff, delicious semi buffet breakfast!! Will recommend to friends and family members when visiting Bologna!

We had a nice stay here. Found the room a little noisy from upstairs. Special thank you to the concierge for being so helpful in organizing a car transfer for us.

A lovely hotel centrally located in quaint Bologna. I enjoyed Nespresso coffe each morning on my spacious terrace. Really appreciated the large bathroom and rainshower after an international flight. It is a walkable distance from the train station and the pleasant hotel staff was extremely helpful providing information on how to board local and high speed trains. A lovely breakfast buffet served daily. There is a relaxing “outdoor” setting complete with faux painted gardens. And of course I had to have the delicious bolognese in the hotel restaurant. Definitely would stay again.

The best hotel in Bologna! Fantastic history of the building including the Roman road in the basement. The staff were all extremely friendly and very helpful. Excellent location for all the bars, restaurants and shops.

Cannot rate this hotel highly enough. From the friendly and helpful welcome and check in, to the fantastic comfortable room overlooking the main street and the Cattedrale Metropolitana di San Pietro, to the excellent breakfast buffet in the morning and the bar at night. Lots of small touches, like the turn down service, water replaced, snacks left and staff who are always smiling and helpful. The location is superb, a simple wander to the main square, food quarter and old town. I'll be back and would recommend anyone who visits Bologna to choose this hotel.

We've stayed here before and liked it then as well. Perfect location. The rooms are a bit small and there's only one USB plug for charging. We'd like to see them add more as well as a couple of more plugs. A dresser for a few more clothes would also be good. That said, it's a fabulous building with an amazing history. The staff are fantastic and they gave two perfect dinner suggestions and booked the reservations for us. The bar tender is really excellent, but so is everyone from the Doorman/Porter to the front desk staff. You can't really go wrong.

Because it is a city hotel, the Grand Hotel Majestic often is forgotten as one of the great luxury hotels of Italy and, indeed, the world. It is the perfect sojourn in the one of the world capitals of gastronomy. Why? The service is impeccable. For example, prior to this visit, I tried to make a reservation at a restaurant which would not reply. So, I asked the concierge staff to make the reservation. The restaurant would not reply to them also. So, one of the concierge staff, Massimo, took it upon himself to walk (40 minutes roundtrip) prior to our arrival to make a reservation in person for my family at the restaurant. Now, that is service!! The location. It does not get any better. It is the center of historical Bologna. The bedding. Every night, the crisp linen sheets are divine. The cleanliness. I gladly would have any of these housekeepers take care of my own home. The toiletries. Trussardi at its best.

This hotel is a real gem. The rooms are really elegant and pleasant, and the bed is incredibly confortable. I stayed a few times and it was always an excellent experience. The staff is exquisite and truly attentive to any personal requests. On my birthday they surprised me with a delicious chocolate cake for breakfast! Location is just perfect for both business and holiday travelers alike. You really cannot fault it in anything. Thank you and see you soon! Thea
