We have now visited this Toby Carvery several times and it is now our favourite carvery to visit, even though a little out of our way. We make the journey as we love it here. Okay, the food on offer is your standard carvery offering, and I cannot lie, there has been the very odd time that the meat has been a little dry and the veg a touch dry and lifeless, but this is the same as any other carvery, it all depends on how long it has been under the heat lamps on the pass. Saying that though, most times that we have been here the food has been good, with the meat (especially turkey) nice, moist and flavourful. There is also a small menu available if you do not fancy carvery, but I have not had anything off that menu, so I cannot comment. The desserts available are nice though and the chocolate fudge cakes always goes down well!! As is the norm with other places, there is a refillable soft drinks option, which goes down a treat and there is a good selection of beers and wines on offer. Nothing ground breaking or totally different, but a good, decent selection all the same. The staff here have always been very polite, professional and attentive. There has only been one occasion that we have experienced where a drinks order was never taken or delivered, but when we raised this issue, it was acted on quickly and resolved straight away, so no complaints. The thing that draws us to this place though is the building, it is stunning! I believe it was a former Gentleman's club that was built in the late 19th century, though I may be wrong about the Gentleman's club thing. It is one of those places that when you are inside you think, "if only these walls could talk!" It has such a nice, relaxing feel to the place, so you can sit and eat your carvery, enjoy a drink and inspect the beautiful interior with all of it's original features. If you are looking for a good roast dinner to enjoy, I'd definitely recommend this place, 100%.

We went for a carvery with my parents and I cannot fault them. The food was hot and fresh and our server was always there to help. A great place with a good section on offer.

I have never ever wrote a review in my life because no place has ever been bad enough to make it worth my time, but this is a different story. The bad reviews already there don’t justify how bad it actually is, from the second we came the car park which had no lights to the service which was shocking, the waitress literally ran away from us when we hadn’t finished telling her our order, the food was dry, fatty and flavourless, i’ve never tasted anything so atrocious, we got the 2 toby tasters and they brought out garlic bread that should rather be used as a brick, so dry and no flavour and for the chicken poppers, 3 undercooked chicken balls. Never ever coming back The only good thing about this place is the salt they offer and the only thing worth ordering is the Prosecco. No wonder this place is so cheap!!!

Took my elderly relative here today against my better judgement as he wanted to go. The rooms are dark and quite oppressive and he struggled to see me as we were put on a small table with him facing a large window. The staff asked what we wanted to drink before we had even sat down. We had the carvery which was only ok. The spoons for the veg under the heat lights were impossible to hold as they were too hot but the food not so hot. He left most of his and wanted to ask staff if it could be warmed up but no one around for over half an hour. No staff came to check if our meal was ok. An argument between a customer and staff going on in the background made the visit worse. I wish we had refused where they wanted us to sit as it contributed to the bad experience. We had dessert as still hungry but the ice cream was quite runny and melting …. Definitely definitely won’t be back also felt like we were in an old movie set. Not for us.

Receptionist helpful, waiter personable and helpful. Otherwise a poorly managed establishment with the worst carvery I have ever come across. The restaurant also offers a unique cobweb display in the dining area. Should any Toby senior manager reads this, I can do a more comprehensive report. I am sure that the Manager will be chuffed to know that we will not be returning.

We went on boxing day and the place was fairly quiet at about 1pm. The staff were nice enough but seemed a little flustered and low. Didn't have the right vibe for that time of year. We've been to previous Toby carvery on boxing day before and those places had crackers on the table and staff always felt festive. Not a bad experience but not memorable.

Deciding to try Toby Carvery for our Christmas Dinner was definitely the best way to go. Service was excellent even with them being busy and all staff were polite and attentive. All of the food was delicious, served piping hot, fresh and thoroughly enjoyable. Dessert was decadent. It was a lovely experience. The decorations were beautiful the atmosphere was great. I think the staff deserve some well earned recognition, pulling off such seamless service on Christmas day - hats off to them!

We pre-booked a table in advance. On arrival we were placed in the middle of the corridor despite many vacant tables in both rooms. We were told that the tables were reserved and refused to relocate our party to a more convenient location. 2 hours later when we were ready to leave , the tables close to us were still unoccupied.

Very quiet for Boxing Day evening, meant we weren’t rushed in being served at the carvery and were able to pass pleasantries with the staff without feeling they needed to rush off. Beautifully decorated for Christmas. Such a lovely building to dine in.

We went for Fathers day. It was really warm in the side room were we sat to eat. Wasnt over busy. The choice of meats was very good but the vegetables were dried up. We had a young waitress who looked after us with drinks. She was very pleasant. Probably wouldnt go again.

Gorgeous Building, Good Food, Mixed Service. 10/10 building, you can certainly see why they offer wedding packages. We were sat in the spacious back room. Loved looking around. 7/10 food. Its a Toby carvery at the end of the day. Small cuts of enormous joints of meat that have been under a heat lamp for 45 minutes. The veg is great and unlimited. 6/10 service. We could tell immediately that not all the staff get on. The more experienced staff spent their time checking where the younger inexperienced staff were. Had to ask for the bill 4 times to 3 different staff, as did the table next to us.

Had a lovely experience at Toby Carvery. Was politely seated by Sam and served with a smile and the very friendly attitude by Phoebe. Served a delicious vegetarian carvery by Connor which I had been looking forward to since midway through work and very much hit the spot. Topped off with the sticky toffee pudding which was worth the visit alone, prepared by Yasmin. Compliments to the chefs and worth every penny.

Excellent carvery from Toby Carvery Bolton. If you’ve not been to this Toby before it’s well worth a visit just to look at the building! Jude was our server and was extremely attentive and knowledgeable about the building. Make sure you find him when you come!

This is always such a nice carvery. The food is really good and the service is excellent. The staff are always very welcoming, friendly and professional. Special mention to Jude our waiter for his cheerful, friendly polite manner.

Great professional service by the waiting on staff at The Watermillock, Bolton. Serving staff very friendly and quick. The food was delicious and the indoor water feature that occurred when it rained was a real spectacular moment! Your staff handled the inconsiderate moment of nature very well and I’m sorry that some families were perhaps a little less understanding than some of us were. A little sad we couldn’t stay and help mop up whilst eating some profiteroles, but we’d had our orders to pay and exit as quickly as possible which of course is understandable. Anyway, it was a great end to Father’s Day for this mother and her child and we hope you manage to get the gutters maintained and the leak fixed before our next visit!

Not happy, had delivery ordered gammon and stuffing , I received beef and no stuffing. Tub mostly full of mash I never have mash on a roast. Gravy cold and the beef was horrible and hard and stringy, Yorkshire was like a crisp. Iv requested refund!

Food was good but nothing special for a carvery. The waitress was very friendly and on the ball with cleaning up plates, asking for desert orders and the bill. Very efficient. The atmosphere was weird, it is a nice looking old estate house. All the rooms were used as seating areas, so there were not many tables in each room. The other 2 tables in the room were eating in silence too, this meant the atmosphere did not feel like a restaurant and when we stopped talking it was weirdly silent. Which is not really a bad point as some people might enjoy it, but I do prefer some background noise so I don't feel like I'm disturbing people by talking. Something I did not like was the state of the carvery area. There were roast potatoes all around the meat, and a lot of the veg splatted around each of the dishes. It just looked like it hadn't been cleaned all day. I also stood for 8mins waiting for the carvery chef to come out and cut the meat. Took the waitress two times shouting that carvery chef is needed before someone came. The chef was polite and friendly though. Overall I did enjoy my experience though.

Service was amazing, staff are super polite and super helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. Food was fresh, hot and tasty and despite being very busy, we were seated and served efficiently but courteously. Definitely will return. Lovely experience at a reasonable price.

Lovely place! Staff always happy to help, never really had a bad experience, but food quality or availability not always great... Not necessarily an issue with the place... Sometimes food prep needs to be better so that it's just ready to grab there and then instead of waiting around whilst other members of your party are already sat down eating and half way through their meal...

I thought they were very thorough with the allergy info, my daughter has a peanut allergy. I thought the carvery was very good, I haven't been to one before. The only other thing I would have liked is roast parsnips but I appreciate not everyone likes them

was very clean and front desk was very welcoming. Took an age to get our drinks to our table and there was not much selection of veggies on at the carvery. Easy to pay and considering it was so busy the tables were cleaned near enough straight away. Only issue was the lack of vegetables. They appeared to be coming to the end and not being switched over.

The staff... they were amazing and friendly, made clear to us what to do after being seated showed us where the refill station was and overall lovely. Food was amazing nice soft veg and the meat was cooked to perfection 😋 Our only complaint is it was 18 degrees out side on arrival was seated near a hot radiator and no windows were open. So was too warm in the building. Other than that. Amazing food and very well trained staff. Thanks for a lovely dinner.

Outside the views are amazing. Once inside however, we were sat in a very dark corner and had to ask to move. The whole place seems quite dark and not many windows out towards the impressive views sadly. I asked for water and was instantly looked down upon as she asked, "tap water" with a look which suggested she had made an instant, unpleasant, opinion of me. I actually wanted bottled water which put her at ease a little. The food was great. I ordered from the specials. Was very nice. Despite being almost full and lots of children aroumd, the noise level was low as people seemed to be trying to he quiet. There was no atmosphere. Some very quiet music playing in the background. Although the food was great I wouldn't really consider coming back here because it was very dark and unimpressive.

Visited on a mid-week dinner time, place was very quiet at first but more people arrived later in the evening. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout - especially the member of staff who was serving at the carvery. The food itself was good, with a wide selection and good freshness despite it being quiet. Value for money was good with large portion sizes and refill drinks. Compared with other Toby Carveries, this venue is very nice - the building and its interior are grand and certainly make the experience more unusual and interesting!

Called for breakfast, £4.99 all you can eat, can't really go wrong. The place was clean, the food was yum, the staff were friendly and helpful 😁

Couldn't recommend this place enough!! Obviously the food was amazing as everyone knows but the staff are INCREDIBLE the manager Michelle went above and beyond to accommodate & seat us as I mistakenly reserved my table 1 person less than I should have done and they were busy and fully booked so they were unable to offer me a bigger table and she could see we were struggling with 2 children and a toddler (stressed) but her companion and kindness was so lovely that she made it work for us and we had a fantastic visit 😊 also the 2x waitresses and 1x waiter that looked after us were all super amazing too 😊
