This is one of the best art center and museum in the Dominican Republic. Founded by one of the richest family, which make their extraordinary incomes with production and selling of world famous Dominican cigars. But each Dollars they win with your smoking pleasure it's worth to see in this nice place. The architecture is a little bit modern from the last century and from outside it's look like a supermarket ... but inside they have 2 levels of exhibition. The ground floor has a very nice permanent exhibition about the island Hispaniola and the DR too. Also there is one room for the collection of Centro Leon. At the second level they have monthly changing special exhibitions of several artists. Sometimes they make a large one about all the actual art in DR. The Centro Leon has also a nice museum shop and a good restaurant too. Due the month there are several evening events for the local in-crowds and pseudo-bohemians. But you as an worldtraveller will enjoy the fine and quiet place!

A truly amazing art gallery and place to spend the day with the family. They have five or six galleries as well as a bird sanctuary, water fountain, cafe and places where you can picnic or take photos.

I loved it. Went with my dad and we walked around discussing the art which ranges from immersive to historical to surreal. It’s a good place to go in small groups or alone. Take your time, the plaques are worth a read.

Really nice. The private collection is quite extensive, with a big range of art pieces (no pictures can be taken in that room tho). Otherwise, the other section was quite informative with a lot of history and art as well. Note: the second floor was closed due to a new exhibit in the works. Highly recommend a few hours to stop by and see amazing local art, alongside learning about local history and culture.

Beautiful cultural center, the first floor is a permanent exposition and in the second floor there is a space for kids, a media center and the non permanent exposition

Small, beautiful, and well kept museum, usually promoting national arts, workshops, and events(the latter at least before covid). Cafeteria has good food, cold beers, etc. at great prices.

One of the best cultural experiences to be in contact with the Dominican countryside and part of the historical symbols of the city of Santiago. A must see for around $3 dollars or 150 pesos.😁😎

Mixed feelings. As other reviews mention, 99% is in Spanish, security employees follow you looking and acting awkward. The exhibits are good, especially the art. The biggest let down is the cafeteria. A complete unorganized mess on a Sunday afternoon visit. Super incompetent cashier working on a complex register system. Waited 40 minutes for a ham and cheese sandwich, and that’s after waiting 15 minutes to place an order.

This is a place where you can go with the family. There's a paid tour of the museum which is quite nice. However if you just want a quiet place to read a book or just take in the environment, it's free of charge. The atmosphere is soothing. The cafeteria serves great food and best of all, it's affordable. There's also a gift shop with interesting local items in case you want to bring something to someone in your travels. Quite a variety as well. They organize outdoor concerts which are usually cover free. No doubt one of my favorite places in Santiago.

  • 5/5 Steve S. 4 years ago on Google
An impressive purpose built arts, museum and cultural centre. Light a spacious a fascinating display of artifacts is imaginatively displayed to provide an anthropological history of the Caribbean region, covering pre history, through colonial conquest to the present day. Although the labelling is mainly in Spanish, aural guides are available in a range of languages. Overall a fascinating glimpse of the region. They also have an excellent cafeteria with a wide range of food and drink on offer.

  • 1/5 Manuel M. 1 year ago on Google
The content and exhibits deserve 5 stars however the rudeness and unprofessionalism of the guides make this a very unpleasant experience. The good: - Exhibits are of very good quality, we saw a local artist exhibit which was very interesting. The bad: - No instructions regarding the use of phone or cameras in the exhibits. I was using a Sony Camera with no Flash and one of the guides told me I can't use a professional camera but I was allowed to use my phone camera ( I am not sure what the rationale is here as I was not using flash). They told another lady in our group to not record video on her phone. So the rules on camera use are not clear and also not posted anywhere in the museum. - No drinks are allowed in the museum so we were told to leave all drinks before entering, which we did. After a while the supervisor same yelling at us because someone dropped some water in one of the exhibitions. Somehow they lady assumed it was our group (out of 100+ people that were also in the the same room) and came very impolitely to complain, to which we told her that the water was there when we came in the room. The lady left without even apologizing. - In general the instructions from the guide as to what was allowed to do in the exhibit were giving at the moment in very rude fashion. Not sure if our guide was upset about something but one 5 year old touching a glass display does not need to be told off, there are better more subtle ways of treating visitors. In General, this was a very bad experience would not recommend anyone to visit.
