On August 7th I wrote the following to the General Manager of the Spruce Point in with no response. Even after completing the Inn's customer satisfaction survey there has been zero communications from the Inn. Poor form. My family and I left the resort out of complete frustration one day later. Do not waste your time there unless significant improvements are made. "I am writing to express my profound disappointment regarding our current stay at the Spruce Point Inn. While we were eagerly looking forward to a rejuvenating and enjoyable experience at your esteemed waterfront resort, our stay has unfortunately fallen far short of our expectations. I feel it is important to bring these matters to your attention in the hope that they can be addressed promptly to improve the overall guest experience. One of the primary reasons we chose Spruce Point Inn was the promise of access to a range of amenities, particularly the docks for activities such as kayaking and fishing. Regrettably, we have encountered significant challenges in accessing these amenities. The requirement to schedule a trolley ride to access kayaks is inconvenient, and the limitation to a specific area diminishes the true waterfront experience we had anticipated. Furthermore, I was surprised and disappointed to discover that the complementary motor launch, which was prominently mentioned on the Inn's website, is no longer in use. This lack of communication left us feeling misled and hindered our ability to fully enjoy the amenities we were counting on. Another aspect that has contributed to our disappointment is the need to request daily housekeeping as opposed to it being done automatically. This additional step has disrupted our relaxation and added unnecessary stress to our stay. In addition, the condition of the recreation room was quite disheartening. A majority of the video games were broken and the room itself appeared unkempt and dirty. This detracted from the overall ambiance and enjoyment we had hoped to experience during our stay. When I booked my families stay at the Spruce Point Inn, our expectation was to fully embrace the natural surroundings and have the convenience of enjoying the waterfront at our leisure. The need to drive or take a trolley to access basic amenities has hindered our ability to fully unwind and has placed us among the masses of tourists, contrary to our vision of a serene and relaxing getaway. While we understand and appreciate the charm of an "imperfectly perfect" experience, our current stay has been significantly below the standard we anticipated. I must admit that if there were a suitable alternative available that could accommodate my family, I would have already checked out. I kindly request that you address these concerns promptly to ensure that the remainder of our stay is more aligned with the experience we had hoped for when choosing Spruce Point Inn. Your attention to these matters would greatly enhance our overall impression of your establishment and potentially influence our decision regarding any future visits. Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to your response and hope that together we can rectify the disappointments we have encountered during our current stay."

After spending some wonderful vacations years ago, we were excited to go to Spruce Point Inn again this year. What a horrible disappointment. Our room, Sunset A, (which is nearly $1000/night), was disgusting. The fridge/freezer was broken and leaking all over a filthy, smelly, ancient rug, the electric burners were right over it and an inch from the sink. I actually received an electric shock trying to cook. The smell from this area was nauseating. The bed and box spring had clearly not been cleaned in at least a decade. There is a hole behind the box with utensils where at least one mouse was coming in and out. There is a constant flow of smelly water under the cabin where my husband slipped in the mud…are there laundry facilities??? Whatever furniture there is was old and battered…not antique or vintage. The pool was out of commission, and we were not advised until ten days before our arrival during the hottest week of the year (80-90 all week). The staff was rude and unfriendly, unlike the wonderful people years ago. The room was so filthy, we did not even unpack. For the rates they charge, one would expect no violations, decent maintenance, replacement of damaged and dangerous appliances, removal of a moldy, stained, smelly carpet, and at least clean accommodations. Even the robes they “let us use” were stained and yellow (we didn’t touch them). Sadly, we will never be going to Spruce Point Inn again. See photo of broken, constantly leaking freezer/fridge/stove/sink nightmare. Sadly, Spruce Point Inn has gone from a premier harbor resort, to quite literally a dirty, unsanitary dump. Very, very sad. What a complete waste of hard earned money.

My wife and I just spent 3 nights here, and it was great! We highly recommend it. We stayed in the Crow's Nest room in the main building - seriously good views from the balcony. This place has everything you need: good on-site restaurant, fun bar, pool, playground, and a pretty nice fitness center. 10/10 would come here again. We particularly enjoyed the room with the fireplace on the main floor. It was a really nice place to read and drink some coffee in the morning. Do note that the building is historic and thus so are the rooms, but that's why we loved it. A lot of reviews talk about the rooms/property needing to be updated, but I completely disagree, and you should adjust your expectations accordingly.

Awesome location in Boothbay. We stayed here before the private equity takeover and again this summer. Food, service and the people are still great. No investment has gone into the property to keep it up to date though. The carpet was disgusting, dirty, and not sure anyone looked to clean the bugs in the room before we arrived. Old buildings and furniture need upkeep. Not to mention that they are re-doing the pool/dock area during season so that was closed but not a big deal for us. Likely just private equity people that don't know how to run a business and look to cut costs where they can.

We chose Spruce Point for it’s dog friendly rooms and location. We found the staff warm and friendly. The rooms are cabins and as some other reviewer said, it isn’t the fittings that draw you here. It is a nice location and has a lot of space between the cabins and lodge. We are a few times at the Salty Stag and the blueberry pancakes are the hit of the menu. Everyone on staff worked hard to make people comfortable. We didn’t find it too busy. The pool is closed for renovations so that would have been good to know in advance. We also found the construction on Grandview a hassle. The trucks blocked travel and it wasn’t the most relaxing to have the large trucks in the road and navigating a narrow path. The grounds are well maintained and it was easy to walk the dogs around the property. The room; it was a one bedroom with a nice deck. There was a modern tv and small fridge for cold items. The rest of the kitchen items didn’t work properly or were too out of date to use. We didn’t cook in the cabin. We used the AC since it was a little stuffy and didn’t have great ventilation in the room. The AC worked well. The furniture was older and in moderate condition. The housekeeper visited daily and towels were refreshed. The carpet needed a full washing and vacuuming before our visit. The Grandview Deck was a nice place for breakfast or drinks. The families seemed to enjoy the pool and on site activities. Spruce Point is a try Maine gem with very kind service.

Spruce Point Inn is a dream! My room was super clean and spacious. The food was delicious at every restaurant, not to mention how helpful and friendly the staff were. There are so many activities to do from biking, tennis, hiking, relaxing by the water, taking the trolley to Boothbay, or the complimentary boat ride. I would highly recommend staying here. Great for families or for a couples getaway!

Definitely recommend. My husband and I just spend 3 nights in the Marston Room in the main building. The view was beautiful. As another reviewer pointed out, it is a historic inn and so are the rooms, and that is what we liked about it. Beautiful, clean, unique, historical, not cookie cutter. All the staff were unfailingly kind and helpful from the moment we walked in. Wonderful place.

Rustic elegance…not even close. Spruce Point Inn is a run down camp that is poorly managed and falsely advertised. We chose Spruce Point Inn for its lovely water front location on the Boothbay, amenities including private dock, kayaks and paddle boards, swimming platform, and water taxi to town. We were not informed that none of these would be available during our week stay. In fact there was NO water access. Why would we pay premium summer rates to not even be able to swim? To do any water sports, you had to take a shuttle into town and kayak in the harbor. In addition much of the equipment on the resort, such as the vintage video games in the game room, board, games, and outdoor activities were broken, missing pieces, and unable to be used. Our cabin was clean, but the equipment, such as the hairdryer, window fans, and utensils were either old, dirty or broken. The management team was dismissive and unhelpful and did nothing to rectify any of the issues. I would not recommend Spruce Point Inn on any measure. It is one step up from a state park camp ground.

Beautiful place. Nice historical inn. We stayed at a room in the inn up 2 flights of stairs (no elevator here) . The room was adequate. It is an old building so it's understandable that the floors are uneven and the door doesn't shut properly. Also no curtain or blind on the bathroom window. Had to hang a towel over the window when I showered. When we arrived without a reservation, the very nice young lady had no idea how to make our booking so asked me to do it online from my phone. We then had to wait 5-10 minutes before it showed up in her system. All the staff we encountered were friendly, nice and accommodating. Breakfast was excellent. but $6 for a glass of tea?? I think the place is lovely , fantastic views. I just think everything including the prices of the rooms and food are way overpriced.

I arrived at this beautiful location to do Hair services for a bridal party on the night of the rehearsal dinner. This was my first time at the resort . I have to say this is a beautiful place. The staff we're All dressed in uniform. The grounds were impeccable. The place was just a delight. I watched staff cater to clients needs. I was greeted by staff every time I walked by someone. I was completely blown away.

Spent a few nights at Spruce Point inn, decided to book the cottage with a sea view. Was disappointed, expected more for $500 a night, including the breakfast. This is an older establishment, unit was not soundproof and very basic. Could hear everything the people next-door were talking about. Restaurant on location was a little pricey, food was good but still pricey. Located right at the end of the cove, Bruce Bayharbor is a quaint fishing village about 2 mikes away. There are much nicer places to visit -

This place is absolutely beautiful! Our family really enjoyed all the activities that are offered on-site, and our room was extremely clean and cozy! We will definitely be back!

Great location! The oceanfront view and views of the sunset are incredibly beautiful. We really enjoyed our recent stay there. The staff are all wonderful and kind. We loved the picnic/boat ride that Spruce Point provides out to Burnt Island. There are plenty of activities on the resort that are included with the stay. Great place for kids! I really wish I could give Spruce Point 5 stars, but the room conditions need major improvement. Stayed in oceanfront property (Seabreeze) and was under impression it was one of their "renovated" rooms. I wouldn't stay in Seabreeze again. It's a shame because would love to go back and make it a tradition like other guests. Hopefully new management will consider renovating rooms to reflect the rates.
