Here’s a picture of the poor quality food. Scampi is burnt. Battered sausage is frankly mental. My partner also had a “big puby-type” hair in his fish and chips. Go to literally any other chippie in Lytham.

Pleasant service but disappointed with the food. Fish was very soggy which isn’t good as it was £8.50 for a small portion. It was fried fresh in front of me and only wrapped up for 5 minutes. Chips were okay. Will not be going back

Fabulous fish & chips, one of the best portion of mushy peas I've had, very friendly helpful staff even the tarta sauce is homemade. Highly Recommended, especially for GF customers as they will poach your fish in an homemade butter sauce 😋 Beautiful.

Over priced for what it is, order extra large fish meal large fish meal, fish bite meal and home made pie. The extra large fish is just an average size and for £9 it's not worth it. Chips where not the best, many thin scraps and served in the cheapest tray and not a box for this price. Oh don't get the pie, as you can see in the picture, it's dry old and microwaved, that small slice cost £2.80 lol. Just realised that there was a pie shop next door. Doh!! 👀 I would next time get a tesco meal deal and eat at the café Nero with a large awesome coffee and cake for cheaper and better quality. Don't waste Yr money, for a company established is the 1930s wow they have gone down hill.

I don't really want to give even 1 star to this small chippy place. But no option, so 1 star it is. Last weekend I went to take my parents for a chippy lunch, I was just checking the menu on the door, and thinking what we'd like to order. The staff start shouting at me as if I'm deaf and keep saying I can't order from the menu if sitting outside. They could've just said it in a nice way so we could have moved inside, but instead they're being rude and shouting as if we didn't understand English! Actually, I was in shocked, and didn't understand their rudeness and arrogance for a small chippy place like that?? We went away and had a very nice fish and chips at 'Seniors Fish and Chips', lovely and helpful staff, really nice, delish, and fresh fish, highly recommended!!

Ok, what's important here are the Fish and chips, very good to be honest and did enjoy our meal. That said I only gave it 3 star's due to my whole experience could of been improved. Firstly the dinning room was dark and dingy for some reason. But more so the toilet facilities require attention. The access bathroom especially as the toilet seat does not stay up there was no toilet paper and the hand dryer does not work. I did bring this to the attention of the staff only to be told yes we do know about the toilet seat. Sometimes it's things like this let's the whole experience down !

Absolutely beautiful food! Staff a little abrupt, but think that was just because it was sweltering and they were crazy- busy! Food was gorgeous and look forward to returning!! Surprisingly cheap for its reputation, queue, and quality of food!

Although my take-out fish and chips were good I was put off by the awful smell of rotting fish as I entered the shop. I’ve been here many times and it’s always been good in the past. Maybe just a one off bad experience on the day.

Nice chippy , I had the cheese and onion pie ,not the homemade one as they'd run out. Chips are really good, my partner and kids didn't rate the fish highly they had but said it was nice enough.

The family had just scattered the ashes of my sister and brother. We ate fish and chips at Whelan's in their memory. They liked nothing better than a walk around St. Anne's and Lytham, and then a meal at Whelan's. As always, excellent food, service and facilities! xXx

Visited at busy tea time on bank holiday Monday, we were seated quickly, 2 adults and child. Waitress was friendly, order took promptly. Food was nicely cooked, fish was massive and lightly battered and chips were good too. Prices have gone up but that’s like everywhere. Really good kids choices, our go to chippy when visiting Lytham st Anne’s

Ordered Medium fish and chips just under £8, the portion size was just ok. The chips were scrappy and the fish batter was a sloppy mess and really greasy. My fish was placed on top of my chips so they ended up covered in grease from the fish. Staff were pleasant but this is the first and last order from Whelan's Fish & Chips.

I'm a visitor from thousands of miles, came a few years ago and was most impressed. So I decided to come back. Sadly this time the taste and quality have diminished substantially. And I do understand that the price of fish has increased drastically, like everything else.

We visited to get a meal before going to a concert at the Lowther Pavilion. We opted for the "small" fish, chips, and mushy peas. It certainly wasn't small! Freshly cooked to order, piping hot and very tasty. Our first visit here, but definitely not our last. We sat outside to eat, but we're given the offer of sitting upstairs if we had wanted to.

This fish and chip shop seems to trade on lots of very historical reviews. I can vouch for this as one of the wall certificates has an organisation on it that wound down in 2012. Peas were luke warm. The tartar sauce had big pieces of onion in it and had a peculiar taste. Husband said the fish was good and along with chips they were hot. The lighting is very dim in the restaurant and not suitable for anyone that may have a visual impairment. Whole place is tired and worn. Over £26 in total for reg fish and chips and regular scampi. Peas were extra.

This place deserves a excellent review. Had fish chips peas and curry. Was all cooked fresh, good portion and tasted great. Friendly guy serving too. Would recommend 5*

First visit, I had the smaller fish and chip version for lunch (inside shop). Good efficient service, very busy on a wet/windy November Wednesday. My friend and myself grabbed the only table left. Lovely meal, both fish and chips cooked to perfection, will definitely visit again

Takeaway closed way before closing time. Very rude service and unaccommodating! Visited twice the past month at 7:15pm to be abruptly turned away with the door clearly stating they are open until 8pm?? To be told, sorry it’s quiet... How can you run a business like this? Gave them a second chance and was told the same thing again, even with about 4 staff in there. Been a local customer for years and they couldn’t even offer a portion of chips. Certainly will not be returning. Rather take my business elsewhere.

Been going here for many years(25yrs) but no more! Was there Friday 26th May.. staff were abrupt..food was not more than disgusting...fish dry over cooked greasy batter..chips were greasy half cooked mess oh my goodness can't believe it! If I was sitting in would have returned but had take out and drove to beach to eat.. Would no longer use or recommend...

I'd not heard good things about Whelan's from a couple of friends but happened to be outside at lunchtime, so I gave it a go. It's more expensive for a lesser quality meal compared to other places. But mostly, noticing the attitude of the waitress towards a couple of customers made the biggest impression.

I usually get my chippy from somewhere else, but due to the excellent reviews I thought I'd give these guys a go.... Very disappointing, fish was swimming in grease and the batter was soggier than my nans parker knoll . Same story with the chips, some of the chips weren't even cooked through. The only good thing was the tartare sauce. Will definitely not be going there again. These guys couldn't pour water out of a boot with the instructions on the heal.

Very disappointed 😔 spent £37 to have chips on the tables outside only to find that they were hard and undercooked. I let the staff know and they were replaced without any fuss - only problem was they were just as bad! Ended up just leaving them. On the plus side, the fish was nice.

Chips were undercooked and soggy. So many good reviews but it didn't live up to them on our visit. Also disappointing to find them using polystyrene trays. Outside they boast that Gordon Ramsay enjoyed eating there... 18 years ago

It's a nice place. There were 5 adults and 2 children, so we had to wait at least 35-40 minutes before we got a table. What annoyed us was that they would seat couples and groups of 4 before us as there wasn't a table big enough for us. Why they couldn't put two of those tables together is beyond me. But there was also a large seating area upstairs that they wouldn't open for some reason..? Anyway, the food. The chips were good, fish batter a bit slimey and the mushy peas were mushy peas. (Don't have the tartar sauce as its not the best). But I would recommend this place but not with a larger group. I'd go again as the staff are nice and friendly. And I like fish n chips.

Excellent fish and chips, lovely gourmet fishcakes full of fish & prawns rather than just mushy potato. Best for takeaway or to eat on the tables outside: the interior restaurant is dark and airless.

Great fish n chips, been going here for years on and off when in Lytham. Eaten in and taken out. Latest visit was just for a chip buttie eating on the hoof. Chips hot and fresh, tasty, great quality.

Hubby had the fish, he usually gets indigestion when eating battered fish, he said the batter was just right, not too much on the fish. Chips were crispy...perfect, not like the usual soggy chips from a chippy. Staff were very friendly and efficient.

We had a really excellent meal the fish was so fresh and the batter just right. The chips, peas and curry sauce were perfect. We were served by a lovely young lady who was very attentive. The restaurant and toilet were spotless.

It was expensive for what we got , the fish were small and chips dry. £47 for 4 people . Ate at a chipshop near Ravenglass and there was no comparison. Exceptional fish and chips

This is the 2nd time I've had f&c from Whelans, last time OK, this time I went for regular fish, and regular mean just like any other chippys size of fish, just regular!! Blimey this was like a scallop, terrible!! If I hadn't driven to the prom front to eat them I would have took it back to show the whole shop what they are getting as regular. Come on Whelans buck up a bit.

Fish and Chips were nice. Bit dark in the dinning room not a great eating out experience to be honest. All seemed to have pretty glum atmosphere in the place.

The food at this place is gorgeous! Unfortunately the fryer is ignorant and it ruined the experience for us. When the fryer (bald man) asked for our fish order, we were told there was no extra large haddock so we ordered 2 regular. When I asked a minute later to increase one to a large, he looked at me and didn’t even acknowledge, so I was unsure what we would receive. We did get a large one and a regular but he was rude. We would definitely go back as the food was cooked to perfection and the others were nice. However, he needs some serious lessons in customer service.
