Beautiful serene setting, visited on a slightly breezy but sunny afternoon. I drove to the car park on my way home after work - I'd wished instead I'd walked to it to enhance the experience. The car park had plenty of spaces and was fairly accessable. Interior doesn't have much to offer and understandably a little untidy inside. Would make a interesting location for an 'out of world' experience.

Its an absolute lovely, open wide country land, lots to explore, the history of the atom is also mind blowing :) definitly recommended. It also leads to the wycoller country park just down the path way (which ever you choose) haveing toiletries, a cafe for beverages ect and benches to relax on.

Looking a little 'tired' now with some minor damage and graffiti. Stunning views over the valley. Plenty of parking spaces.

The Atom is one of the Panopticons, a series of ten sculptures and artistic installations that have been installed along hiking trails in Lancashire, England. The Atom is located on a hill above the village of Wycoller in Wycoller Country Park. It was built from ferro-cement with a metal paint coating and serves as a viewing point and shelter from which to admire the surrounding natural beauty.

Nice view but not much to see. Make a few pictures and go to another place. Can be fun for kids. Big car park

May 2017: Panopticon Atom. Pendle's Atom lies above Wycoller village and is a ferro-cementstructure. It has a surface coating of a metal based paint. The viewing point shelter frames spectacular views. Part of the REMADE in Lancashire programme and one of 4 panopticons. Completed in 2006. UpdateJune 2022: damaged by vandalism

Strange place to put a piece of art. Didn't feel like leaving the car in the car park for too long and it's a pity someone had thought it ok to spoil it with graffiti

Beautiful walk from The Atom to Wycoller and back to the car park. Very beautiful village and the atom is a different piece of art you will never seen anywhere else. Would recommend this walk took us around a hour and it’s so peaceful and tranquil!

It was a nice sculpture/structure to walk in and enjoy the view of the country side. The car park can get rather full quickly.

Lovely structure, good car park with walks around the area. Didn't get chance to see the mentioned willow sculptures so will be back!

Not a lot to say about the place really. Was a nice clear day when we went so you could see for miles, which is quite the sight. The Atom itself is what it is, as with all the Panopticons. We went as part of a road trip to see them all so didn't spend long here. Was easy to get to and a a fair few parking spaces nearby.

I absolutely love it. Takes about an hour to complete. Always feel good after I've completed the trail. Lovely sight, quiet and refreshing.

Gorgeous views on the hillside with easy access from a car park or a short but hilly walk from Wycoller, a village that is a heritage attraction in its own right. The atom frames the view beautifully without intruding on it. Can't score 5 stars though as unfortunately there's a lot of graffiti. I'm no prude but there's definitely imagery and tags not suitable for kids, and that's a shame.

A real shame that people feel they need to graffiti, but at least it's limited to only being on the inside. Worth a visit, but wasn't as impressive as I'd thought it would be.

Great views from the atom and some lovely walks around the local valley and to Wycoller. Down by the old house public toilets are clean and open, loads of picnic tables to sit and enjoy a flask of coffee and sarnie with the ducks.

An interesting sculpture and landmark with some lovely views on the road to Haworth. I'd seen it from Wycoller, down in the valley below, probably a good 15 minute climb for someone fitter than me but there is ample parking if you're not. I've deliberately chosen my photos so they don't spoil the surprise of discovering the highly imaginative* post installation impromptu graphical decorations. *Not imaginative at all. Expect your newly literate kids to ask challenging questions.

Such a simple building on the hottest day; 37Β° this was a lovely cool haven. The air inside was refreshingly cool with the breeze blowing through. I recommend a break here.

Spectacular scenery and a beautiful spot to watch the sunset

  • 5/5 Lisel J. 2 years ago on Google
Two routes to it, nice and easy car park right next to it but wonderful walk from the country park and lots more to see if you do that, would recommend.

Sadly missing the mirror ball that used to be in the center and has graffiti on the walls inside. Almost to be expected. Nice starting point for walks with the free car park.
