A great place to visit and see some history up close and personal! The pictures don’t tell the whole story but the young Sailor who provided our tour certainly did! If you have time in Boston, take a tour - they’re free! And educational about our country, our navy and our history.

Very cool piece of history to experience! If you are completing the Freedom Trail in Boston, do not skip this stop. Definitely worth your time to explore the levels of this old warship. Staff/soldiers on board were very friendly and knowledgeable, and were eager to answer any question.

I really have enjoyed this museum. You can first see the original ship and then come here and learn the whole history and experience the life of a sailor back two hundred years ago. The exhibition itself is pretty informative and interactive. You can find a lot of information here. also they have nice and clean restroom. One more good point is that there is no admission and you can get inside for free, it is actually donation-based but you can leave as much money as you want to, no pressure

One of the most important historical museums in the country. The Constitution is the oldest commissioned naval vessel in the world. The crew are your average 19 year old idiots who join the military, and they give the tours, but it really is a "hands on" museum. You are free to touch and explore as you descend the decks. The museum has fantastic pieces that rotate over the months and years, so it does offer opportunity to see it again and again.

To be honest, I didn’t think I would care much for touring a ship, but after being there at the Charlestown port and experiencing the museum, I completely changed my mind. The museum was wonderful! Looking at a piece of history like this was fascinating, especially on the inside.

Must see this museum and great ship that had a huge impact on America's founding history! Free for military! (On certain days, its free for entire military family) The star of this historical landmark is no doubt the USS Constitution, but also enjoy the nice walk through of USS Cassin Young (DD 793) as well. Learn about how this area supported the entire rope making industry for the entire Navy or how tremendously large the anchor chain making foundries were! Highly recommend bring your entire family to see if in the Boston area!

We went in mainly to find the only bathroom around but it was full of interesting things to see. There were models of the ship, even one made of Legos in the kids section. We spent about an hour inside since it was much cooler than outside. They have a large gift shop but I wanted to find a historical book about the ship for kids but nothing but a novel sized edition.

The ship is something I had to see. It was on my bucket list! The museum is wonderful and only asks for a small donation. I would do the museum before seeing the ship so a person can imagine sailor life and survival intensity. Please also admire the dry dock next to it. I've never seen one 😳 very cool!

Really interactive and fun museum! We enjoyed getting a hands on experience learning about building of the USS Constitution, the history of what life was like for the sailors on it, and the history of the ship’s battles. It was informational, educational, and entertaining. Very family friendly. You can touch and interact with many of the exhibits. There’s also a mini golf right in front of the entrance. Entrance fee is a suggested donation.

Good ole iron side! the oldest ship to still be in service and better yet free to board! Definitely felt like I was part of the crew, and you learn about the USS Constitutions unique history and it’s glory days! It’s also super cool that it’s owned by the navy and people who are in the navy as your tour guides! If you’re not local and out looking for some of new England’s history this is definitely the stop 🛑

My sons loved exploring the museum and the ship. By donation only so I felt it was well worth the time. The water front area was pretty even though we went on a super foggy, overcast afternoon. Fun gift shop as well!

Wonderful experience. Went aboard both the Constitution and the Cassin Young. Wear good walking shoes. Lots of steep ladders of you want to access lower decks on the Constitution. Access to the ships is free, but I believe the museum requires tickets.

One of the few stops on the Freedom trail that didn't charge for entry. You can tour the boat walk below deck and see how small living space was on the ship

Very kids friendly! Love the Lego area, my 3 yrs old had a lot of fun there. A lot of things to learn and explore hands on in their history museum exhibition. Also loved the ship. The Charleston town harbor view is great. A great place to visit in warm sunny day! Will come back again.

Hidden gem! I did not think my children (8, 10, and 11) would appreciate me dragging them to another museum. I'm so glad we tried it! This one has an excellent kids area! It is so engaging and educational! Bonus that you can actually go onto the boat next door!

100% worth the time. It makes you feel so proud of our country. You don’t always realize how lucky we are to be US citizens. And when you see the proud history of these brave men and women who founded our country and the civility, they had towards each other and against the so-called enemies, instead of like today, tearing each other apart, it makes you long for some civility of times past

This museum and the ship herself are a must-see for anyone interested in American history. Try to visit on a day the Constitution sails - very impressive. The interactive exhibits in the museum are interesting and fun, suitable for kids and adults. Be advised that you will have to go through a metal detector (like an airport) to tour the ship. Lots of interesting educational items and cool bling in the gift shop. The Constitution Museum is a convenient stop on the hop on/hop off trolley tour.

I have been to Boston a few times, but this was my first visit to the USS Constitution. This is a fascinating piece of American history. The ship is beautiful, but going down below was tricky. Fantastic museum, and I can see why it would be a great place to take children. So many interactive exhibits.

What a great experience for Miles and Nathan and myself for that matter. They really enjoyed going on an actual" pirate ship" "type " ship. The statistics were mind blowing. There are over 40 miles of ropes on the USS CONSTITUTION alone!40 miles OMG! Definitely a great Museum and Ship tour . Thanks to the USN and all the sailors who made our visit happen.

Security checkpoint was very quick and easy. Navy personnel were all friendly and helpful. Ship was very interesting. Despite some sections closed off for unknown reasons, it was a cool experience, especially below deck. Not much to do aside from look and listen but admission is also free. Easily a quick impulse destination as long as there are no large groups. Also an amazing piece of US naval history.

The museum was nice as it gives a description of the different crew members. Liked to explanation what happened afterwards too. Museum got back to me with a nice response and explanations. Professional and appreciated. Photos are obviously from the USS Constitution and not the museum.

The USS Constitution is America's first Navy Ship. The museum works on donations and they request $15-20 dollars for the entrance. After a full day touring Boston, we arrived close to 5pm when the museum was closing. We were asked to pay the full amount. Shortly after, another staff member came to the front and started greeting people as they walked into the lobby. He was also letting them know the museum worked on donations and to please donate any amount they were comfortable with paying. There is also a putt putt golf game in front of the building working fully on donations also. Pretty cool.

As adults we had an excellent time at this Hands-On museum. The interactive exhibits are really nice we had an enjoyable time and we learned a lot. Deep down inside me and my friends are just little children. The tour of the boat was nice, wish there was just a little bit more time for photos on the ship.

visiting this amazing ship was a bucket list item for me. I had a flight layover in Boston for 3 hours and realized that the USS Constitution was only 3 miles away from the airport. I had chills while riding in the taxi to the museum. and tears in my eyes as I walked toward the ship. this was a dream come true. I have a painting of this ship in my house and a decorative plate with it. it was a lucky break getting a layover in Boston so that now I won't have to make a special trip here just to see the ship. it was amazing. what's even better is I visited the ship on Memorial Day while traveling.

  • 4/5 Jason L. 1 year ago on Google
The museum is free. But, a minimum $10 donation is highly suggested. While the museum is informative, it can be done in less than an hour. To access the Constitution itself, you need to pass through airport-style security. The ship is an active US military installation. After passing through another gift shop, you'll wait outside for the tour guide and he/she will lead you to the ship. One aspect of the ship is below decks. The height between floor & ceiling gets smaller as you go further down. Overall, not a bad experience. Especially if you're into American history.

A guided tour of the USS Constitution is free to the public. Tour is given by a member of the US Navy. Pretty amazing experience on board. The Visitor's Center is also free and has an extensive amount of information about the dock yard. The USS Constitution Museum, on the other hand, asks for a donation to enter. The exhibits are mostly about the history of the ship as well as the numerous restorations made to keep it as the oldest floating ship in the world. The Museum is family friendly.

If you visit Boston for it's history, you should not miss to visit the USS Constitution Museum and the surrounding area. All exhibits are very well maintained and restored. You would about two to three hours to visit everything. More if you are interested in detailed history of every major exhibit. Try and visit both ships that are docked there (USS Constitution & USS Cassin Young). Great experience for history buffs or not.

The museum has a kid's section with Legos to build ships. It also has many informative pieces on materials that go into making it. A nice 5 min documentary on the USS Constitution too!! And right outside is the big ship and you can see inside to peek back in the past. Right beside it is the USS Cassin Young ship, which was a WWII destroyer. There is some street parking near this place and also a parking garage.

What an incredible experience and opportunity to walk the oldest commissioned naval ship. The history and restoration were absolutely stunning. The museum is phenomenal as well. **If you are an adult, you need a government-issued ID to get on the ship itself.** Extremely thorough and highly interactive museum. Lots of things to read for the adults and simulations, examples, and activities for kids to touch and interact with. "Old Iron Sides" - the USS Constitution itself - is really neat. You can visit three decks of the ship, and there are Navy personnel present to give explanations and answer questions.

Valuable trip! It's interesting and worthwhile to learn about Boston's history, and the area is quite nice for a day trip. Ideal for a class or summer camp to visit as well. Being on the ship is a treasure itself, and again even More fun in an educational setting.

First off the museum is free (donation encouraged). The ship is amazing. The museum it's self is ok, but geared towards little ones. It has some neat interactive exhibits. The sailors on the ship are knowledgeable, and professional. There are some amazing models in the museum if you like that kind of thing. I was there for about an hour, and feel like I saw everything I wanted to.

I was invited to check out the Charlestown Navy shipyard and the USS Constitution the Oldest battleship in the United States that was never defeated in war! The British Navy could not sink her! And the USS Constitution was instrumental in defeating the British Navy at that time taken down many of their warships! The ship is called old ironsides for a reason, she couldn't be sunk! And this ship is still active today with many tours that you can schedule on it! Minus the pandemic! They have another ship that has been decommissioned but I can't remember the name of the ship! I highly recommend seeing both of these ships especially the USS Constitution! They must have had short sailors on that ship because you could easily bump your head if your six feet tall in many areas of that ship! I'm 6 ft tall and I had to duck my head or lose it! 😬😀 I haven't been to the museum itself and I look forward to seeing that as well! But old ironsides is amazing, and the other ship across from it as well I wish I can remember its name?

Loved every bit! The Navy Officers presenting the USS Constitution Story were as much entertaining as they were detailed. Definitely worthy of the visit and walk through time. It’s the oldest Commissioned Navy Vessel today at only 225yrs old she’s looking great. 3 levels were open for viewing with sectioned closed off for renovations. She’s a beauty !

(Translated by Google) The USS Constitution is a very interesting part of the history of the United States. If you go to Boston, you must not miss visiting this ship, and there are no tickets here. The boat is well maintained, if there are not many people, you can cruise for a few hours on the boat. I went to visit on October 9, 2019, maybe because it was a drizzle early morning when I went, so there were few people at the time and it was very comfortable to walk on the main deck. You can learn from my experience here. But in the past it was always overcrowded. The security check here is very strict, just like the security check at the airport. I think this has almost become the norm since the 9/11 incident.

PROS: I like the fact the ship was free to go on and the museum was very affordable. The museum had some original stuff on it which made me happy to see since the boat was restored and nothing is original from it. The staff was very nice too and the place was scrubbed clean CONS: The museum didn't really have that much of a variety of things. It was mainly just 30% original stuff from crew and 70% interactive games for children, videos, and blurbs on the wall. The ship tour just showed the gun room and thats it (but since it was free what do you expect) OVERALL: I'd come by this place again to check it out if I was with a history buff. But if History isn't your thing, don't come here

This is one of the best museums I’ve ever been to in my life. For a small museum it was very Informative and laid out so nicely. It really felt you were back in time learning everything that happened to the ship. This is a somewhat hands on museum so during covid it felt safe with hand sanitizers everywhere. It’s also interesting how the museum told a story as you went through it. This is a must see if you’re coming Into Boston and the USS constitution is only open Friday-Sunday.

Wonderfully hosted by the U.S. Navy; got to meet the first female Capitan of the Constitution as well as board the vessel! Gift shop has what you'd expect, trinkets for family and friends; I purchased myself a $15 USS CONSTITUTION medallion which was double sided and HEAVY - which means it's worth it. The museum is likely angled towards a younger generation, me being 20 now, but all the same I learned much from the museum, as well as playing a PVPVE little pirate ship game. Undoubtedly worth your time, if it's a stop you can make then make it.

We had not planned on devoting so much time to the museum here, but the exhibits were some of the most diverse and engaging we have seen. Definitely worth the entry fee. I would imagine those with children would be especially appreciative of the design of this museum. They also offer military discounts. At the time, they were only allowing visitors to get on the USS constitution on the weekends, so be sure and check before you go. We made a trip back and it was worth it.

The world’s oldest-commissioned floating warship, berthed on a dock at Charlestown’s Navy Yard. The museum has a “suggested admission fee” which I don’t mind after going through the interactive, experiential, hands on exhibits. Plentiful of historical artifacts, educational for all ages, just a wonderful place to visit. Prepare to spend an hour or two or more. The ship is accessible to visitors, state-issues ID is needed to enter, since its an active Naval base, and your bags go through xray
