Very nice bar with delicious food. We had the lobster roll, clam chowder and fish and chips. All of it was so good and would just melt in your mouth. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

Packed on Saturday night! Mask mandate lifted and proof of vaccine eliminated. Enjoyed the best lobster Mac and cheese and a bottle of red wine before heading over the the other side to see a cover band and dance! Left around 11pm the line was long outside to get in. Definitely a collage age range, too young for me! But we had a blast regardless.

Went there for lunch. Guy told us to pick any table so we went in and sat down. Waited 15 mins and no menus and waiter even spoke to us. I went the bathroom and came back and still nothing. U made eye contact may times. We are a nice dressed clean couple so no reason for them to think we were not there for lunch. Walked out and another couple asked if we worked there cause we were walking out said no. They could not get help either and left. Sad as I want to give these businesses my money. I want them to stay open. Should not be hard to get some one to wait on you! Yes we had on mask..

The fish tacos were phenomenal! Light batter, fresh soft taco shell. The chowdah was great too! You seat yourself and if you walk in the front door go around the side to another larger eating area, there's also seating upstairs. Our food came out quickly and service was pretty good too despite it being so busy when we went.

In the quincy market area, hungry for some good food and drinks? Look no further, this place has it. The atmosphere will make you feel like you're getting the true Boston vibe, plenty of typical New England dishes all served fresh and delicious. I do wish the staff were a bit more helpful with seating arrangements, it's kind of a free for all to get your own table or put one together.

This Tavern is small and spacious, the staff was very attentive and accommodating. Their drink menu is extensive with a broad variety of beers, cocktails and even mock tails. Their food menu for being a tavern is very good and extensive. It is not a regular tavern with just finger food menus. We had the hot lobster roll that came with fries and coleslaw- it was delicious the lobster perfectly cooked and in whole pieces not shredded. The bread was toasted just right and did not break or get soggy. The crab cake burger was also delicious. They don’t have an advertised kids menu, but my son was able to have some chicken tenders with fries and they were both delicious and he ate the entire plate. This is a good spot for eating lunch.

We start every visit to Boston with lunch at Bell in Hand. The service usually has room for improvement (they are nice, just a little scattered), but the food is good (albeit, a little over-priced). But we know these things and don't mind, as an annual visit has become part of our tradition. Alcohol-free options include (in theory) two NA beers: Budweiser Zero and Sam Adams "only the haze" NA IPA. They didn't have either last year and only had one this year. Mildly annoying, but they're trying.

Had dinner here our last night in Boston and boy were we glad that we decided on this place! The tavern is really cool and had a cozy, old-time feel to it. The beer selection was great and the food was fantastic. The clam chowder was creamy and delicious while the Boston cream pie cupcake satisfied my sweet tooth. We will definitely make it a point to come back here next time we're in Boston.

So much history and all original architecture. What a place to have stumbled onto! The seafood was impeccable. I had a stuffed quahog for the first time in my life (I thought it was just a city on Family Guy!). The bartender was super sweet and attentive. The World Cup semi finals were playing and even though the room was small it felt like a slice out of an American history book. Their menu is true to the Bostonian spirit. Don't miss out on stopping by this relic of Americana.

The food here was AMAZING! Great find! The fish and chips were the best I’ve had along with the frys and coleslaw! I couldn’t stop eating it! The siblings had the hot lobster rolls and loved them. Oysters were good…I’ve had better. But over all this place, the atmosphere, the food, service…HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Good food and good customer service. You can eat inside or outside. Bar is inside. Seemed to be more adult friendly though. They have bouncers at the entrances. When approaching, we weren't sure how everything worked. No signs directing which way to go or how to get assistance. Kinda just have to guess or ask . No one has the brand on to represent who work there so... yeah. Kinda just have to guess who to ask questions about where to sit or go for service. After finally getting seated we ordered some drinks and food. Both were really good. Prices are high but I guess that's expected. This location is definitely one I'd recommend to Boston visitors and we'd probably be back next time around.

The atmosphere represents the city of Boston. We sat outside and it was such a gorgeous view of the city. The outside area was well-designed and felt homey. Our waitress was amazing and the food was delicious. I ordered a chicken pesto sandwich and my sister ordered the fish and chips. Both dishes were a good size and worth the price. I definitely recommend trying their Boston Cream Cupcake for dessert! You won’t regret it. Highly recommend this spot.

Fun experience. Initially walked into the bar/stage side and, albeit not what my group was in the mood for, definitely seemed like a lot of fun and great energy. Found the table side and had some good drinks. Food came out super fast which was a bonus given how busy they were. Great staff and felt very well taken care of!

One of the best chicken sandwiches I have ever had! Kinda makes the Chick-fil-a and Popeye chicken sandwich debate look like an elementary argument. Great location in Boston right along the Freedom Trail. Highly recommend.

Stumbled upon this place while walking the streets in Boston. We were there about mid day and the service was excellent! Loved our server and recommendations he had for us! Seriously had some of the best clam chowder and hot lobster roll I’ve ever had!

Wound up running in here for dinner Saturday night after getting caught in the downpour. They were packed, as was every establishment around. We got a seat within 20 minutes, and it was worth the wait. My husband started with a clam chowder and the seasonal house cider, while I had the blackberry margarita and the steak and cheese rolls. Kinda like eggs rolls. The drinks were phenomenal, and I was so sad to learn my husband got the last glass of seasonal cider because it was that good lol The steak and cheese rolls could have been a meal in and of themselves, and I wound up giving most of them to my husband. The burger was cooked perfectly that I had, and my husband loved the lobster roll. He said it could have used a little more seasoning, but enjoyed it none the less. Our waitress was really good, and she was busy as anything. Great sense of humor, got our orders perfectly without writing them down, and was all around just a pleasure. We ended with the Boston cream cupcake, which is from a bakery nearby. It was good, but not really worth it in our opinion. Too much cake, not enough filling. But the regular house cider I had with it went perfectly lol Considering how packed they were, we were happy with the service and the cleanliness. Plus, we got to eat at the oldest tavern in the US. Would definitely come back!

Countries oldest bar. Very cool old traditional style inside. Food was delicious had the clam chowder and lobster roll. Enjoyed the scenery and atmosphere. Staff was friendly and seated us quickly and had plenty of seating for all. Great place to stop and enjoy a traditional bar scene.

Great place to chill at. Oldest bar in the area with a special brew by Samuel Adams. Calamari is a great choice for sharing. The jalapeños were a wonderful addition to this deep fried dish. Highly recommended!

We went to The Bell In Hand around 7 on a Friday night and the service was really fast. The food and drinks came out really quick. I ordered a Vegetarian burger that is in the picture and it was delicious. My girlfriend ordered a crab cake sandwich and she really enjoyed it. It was a little expensive, but the location and significance of the restaurant makes the price worth it!

Chose this place out of a string of outdoor eateries due to the posted menu and open tables. We were told to seat ourselves. We had time to download menus to our phones and decide on a dish. Our server came over soon after with plastic cups of ice water. There were no napkins or silverware on the table, and none were brought at this time. Our server took the order and it was delivered quickly by other staff. We had to wait about 5 minutes for the server to check on us. This is when we asked for silverware, napkins, and condiments. We ordered cocktails which arrived in a can and no glass. The food was good, the city atmosphere was nice, and we were comfortable. The price for what we ordered was high, and the service was not as good as we expected. If the price was a bit better and our server was a bit more attentive I would have given this another star.

Good food and server was great but overall experience was poor. Loud basketball game made it impossible to have a conversation and was hoping for a more traditional pub feel.

The historical significance of this restaurant and pub cannot be overstated. Amazing drinks and one of the best Lobster Rolls you'll ever have the pleasure of eating. In the heart of Boston, THE BELL IN HAND TAVERN is a must visit.

I drank rum next to Samuel Adams! We stopped in on this place on a whim. So glad we did! We didn’t realize this was the oldest bar in America. The staff was super friendly and the menu was simple yet localized. There is a picture on the wall of Samuel Adams and it tells a story how he had to pay a fine at Harvard because he got caught drinking rum. I ordered a shot of captain Morgan and drank it next to the picture of Sam where is mounted next to the bar. We had a great time and the live music that was playing was really great!

  • 5/5 Brian P. 2 years ago on Google
Lobster roll was terrific! Chunky bits of lobster meat and just perfect ratio of garlicky butter. Beer was good and the paintings and scenery was priceless. Each colonial era painting has its own modern Boston sports twist to it. Touristy? Yes. Historic? Yes. Good food? Yes. Worth visiting? YES!

Went there to support a friend’s comedy gig. They had a great hilarious lineup that Tuesday night that we were roaring with laughter during the whole segment. Place was packed. First floor bar & resto were bustling. Second floor was where the comedians performed. Loved it! Place to drop by when you are by Faneuil Hall. We ordered their hot lobster roll and cheeseburger. Both were juicy & spot on. I will especially recommend their hot lobster roll - was just perfectly cooked & flavored. Some lobster rolls tend to get chewy & dryish. This one was awesome to the last morsel♥️. Going back for more😜

I was only in town for the day to see my brother so he took me to a couple of cool spots. This is the oldest bar in Boston established in 1794 but they modernized it IMO way too much. The only original was the columns. The place was cool and the beer was cold so that is always good. Definitely a nice place to stop for a pint.

We stumbled across this place at lunch time. Reviews looked good and we needed a drink. As we sat down, food menus were plonked in front of us so we decided to eat too! Portions are generous, food is quick, and the quality up to scratch. I had the mac n cheese and decided on a whim to add the lobster at “market value”. That was a $36 meal then! Pays to ask 😉. Nice pint of Bird in Hand ale too. Worth a stop - family friendly.

Boston has the oldest tavern in America so we had to check it out while in town. The Tavern has been around since 1795. A gathering place for printers and politicians, sailors and students in the past. It's located in what looks like an alley of restaurants. It has a pub side and restaurant side as well as outdoor area. There are large windows that are open you cam sit next to whi h was very nice given the feel in this area. The vibe is very lively and the crowd was your typical type of crowd you find in a pub/tavern. It definitely gets pretty crowded but the customer service was good just takes a minute if you are in the bar area. There is music playing as well as sports on the big screens. Be prepared to yell when talking because of the noise level. The food was good and portions pretty large. Definitely a good place to check out when in Boston.

The story tells that it is the longest continuously operating tavern in the USA. I don't know if it's true, but the tavern is really nice. The food is very good. We ordered one of the recommended burgers and a delicious Cobe salad. The service was very good too, rounding off a very typical Boston experience. If the day is nice, outside tables are also a great option.

  • 4/5 Chris D. 9 months ago on Google
It's a classic tavern with a strong selection of beer, cocktails, mocktails, and other drinks. The food is a typical pub menu - I enjoyed my fish and chips, which uses a lighter batter than the traditional fish and chips. The only issue was service - we had two servers visit only a couple times during our meal, and we weren't able to ask for additional sauces or water refills after the food was brought out.

  • 5/5 Adi S. 7 months ago on Google
Great local food, attentive service and a lively atmosphere. It was quite noisy when we were there, making conversation difficult at times.

  • 5/5 Juan C. 10 months ago on Google
Good place to have a beer and a lobster roll (they offer both, cold and hot). There is a good variety of beers and by the time I visited, there was live music (a Sunday afternoon). Service is great and the bartender was happy to provide suggestions on what to drink. Lobster roll may seem pricey for a sandwich (~$35) but it was a good size one and very tasty; price is right considering it is lobster.

I was looking forward to trying this old historic pub. Unfortunately, it did not live up to my expectations. My choice from the menu was grilled salmon bowl, its description was very appealing. The salmon looked and tasted as if it was 3 days old and smelled like an old fridge. Quinoa was not freshly cooked, it seemed as though it came from a can along with some sad looking spinach and other unidentifiable veggies. All in all, I couldn’t eat it. The waiter never came back to check on the food, at the end she asked how our food was, I told her about my experience. She glanced at my slightly touched meal and said she was sorry BUT never took that meal off our bill. The reason why I gave the place 3 stars is because the chicken tenders that my son ordered were good, so were the quesadillas that my daughter had. The sliders that my husband had were somewhat okay but certainly could be better. Do not plan on coming back there…

While on vacation with my boyfriend and his family, we stopped by here for a few drinks during the day. This area in general is definitely a place worth checking out while in Boston. There’s a ton of cute bars, restaurants, and even fruit market. This restaurant has a bar area and an actual dining area. If you get lucky, the table on the far end is surrounded by windows to look out into the street. We had just ate, but we still grabbed some oysters and pretzels to snack on. The pretzels were delicious! They have a bunch of beers on tap and specialty cocktails. The drinks were about $14 a piece. This is a cool place to stop by for a drink or two.

Great feel. If it wasnt for the curfew, probably would be a good social experience, even with masks! Midnight Ride Martini was awesome, so were the ciders. We got our food before our 1st round, which was disappointing. They have heaters setup outside but didn't turn them on and it was chilly. They said they didn't have propane and it was more for asthetics. Food was good. Waiter was nice but no sense of urgency or attentiveness. We would have ordered more and tipped better but he didn't seem to care. Felt like we were in Europe. Never offered a refill after 2nd round until we were wrapped up and ready to go. We left thirsty. I still tipped well cause times are tough, but he missed out on a good night because my fellow patrons are generous when it is deserved. Tonight, it was not! I would go again as there were a lot of items on the menu i would like to try!

We stopped by here during the day to get some light food and drinks. It took us a little bit to be served, despite it not being super busy. Once I went during my stay as a visiting researcher, after a BBQ meeting with friends and colleagues. I took an order for a beer, and they took me out from the bar. My english was not that good at that time, so I guess they though I was drunk or super wasted due to my spanish-accent. They were rude and when I tried to get an explanation, one of the guards hit me and threw my phone to the floor, crashing the screen. One of my worst days back there in Boston. I wasn't brave enough to mention this at that time. What started to a great day with my friends it ended as one of my worst nights in the US so far...

Same as a few, waited in outdoor seating for 5 or 10 minutes before someone asked if I was waiting on anyone else and as I was saying I was good to order she left. After about 15 to 20 minutes of awkward eye contact and avoidance I went somewhere else. Maybe ill try again another time because I'm a big history nerd and was excited.

Fun cozy spot to grab a drink and watch a game. Didn’t give the experience 5 stars because we ordered the only dessert on the menu, Boston Cream Pie and it was extremely underwhelming. Appeared to be, and tasted like, a prepackaged, tossed on a plate dessert.

Excellent experience! I wanted to try the "adult slushies" so I got the Painkiller...oh boy was it good! For dinner, I got the fish tacos, not the best I've had, but very tasty if you like fried fish. Overall, fairly priced, nice setting, outdoor and indoor dining and one of the more economical places along Union Street.

Really cool historic bar, right in the heart of Boston. Lots of outdoor seating which is great for eating out during the pandemic. We recommend getting the oysters and baked brie appetizer, they were both delicious. Use this spot at a launch pad for a night out in Downtown Boston

Although this is obvious tourist stop, the atmosphere and staff made it feel like we were locals. Just like us, many of the folks we're ordering different items to share and our waitress was happy to help accommodate. We shared some local favorites, lobster roll & chowder. They were both very good. Overall, it was a great experience and a nice break on our journey through the Freedom Trail.

Such a tasteful ambiance of the past! One of the OLDEST continuously ran taverns! I absolutely wanted to have a drink and a bite here, but even though it seemed clean and quaint it was a bit busy for my liking. I took a peak inside and they did have individuals spaced one table apart and they had outdoor seating, but it was a bit too tight. I will definitely be back though!! Covid safety rating: 8/10 Outdoor seating available and they spaced individuals out by a table, but the inside can be a bit tight and since it is quite popular it gets a bit crowded.

As much as I'd like to give this place a 5 star review, I can't. We were visiting Boston for the week and stumbled upon this place. While the hot lobster roll was absolutely delicious as well as the chowder, the service was atrocious. Once we were EVENTUALLY seated it took at least another 15 minutes to even get a menu from the manager at that. You would think having the manager as your server would be a pleasant experience, right? Not so much. We waited a good bit before he came back to take the order. The food came fairly quickly but after that, he was standing around on his phone, took a good half hour or more of him just doing nothing to even ask if we needed a refill on the drinks which we absolutely did. Maybe if we had an actual server it would have been better service but he just seemed absolutely careless. Again, the food we ordered was GREAT. The service/employees were questionable.
