Came here on a whim while looking for a lobster roll place in Seaport. The place was already half full in late afternoon on Monday, but we were fortunate to grab one of the window side tables with a great view of the harbor. My friend and I got the barking crab roll, naked lobster roll, fried clams, and some fresh oysters, and everything was decent. With a lot of tourists in the area, I knew this would be a tourist trap, but the overall food quality wasn’t too bad. The oysters were similar to what you would get in other places, and I enjoyed the crab roll. However, the toasted buns were quite disappointing and the fried clams were far below my expectations. Everything was certainly overpriced for the quality, but the barking crab roll was worth a try. Would recommend going here for the good views and vibes, but food may be slightly disappointing for the price.

I'm a Texan who was in Boston for a business trip, so I was eager to get some seafood while I was in town! The Barking Crab was in an awesome location, just on the harbor's walking trail and on the water. The view was increidible, and they had a ton of seating, both indoor and outdoor. I was able to get seated quickly since I was eating alone, but I did notice that there was a line for groups to sit down. But it didn't seem like anyone waited more than 5-10 minutes! The service was decent, but the food incredible. I got the raw oysters, which were fresh and delicious, and the lobster roll. The meal was amazing! It was pricey, but worth it.

My first time here. Came on a weekend but the wait wasn't too long. As others mentioned, this restaurant doesn't take reservations so be there early to avoid a long line. We ordered a steam lobster 1.5lb, lobster roll and fried calamari. The food was good, price on the other hand is not too cheap for the food quality and casual dining atmosphere. Service was good, servers all smiles and accommodating. Overall, it’s a good dining place for casual dining with family and kids will like the colourful layout. Not too ideal for couples or people looking for a chic ambience.

The location is great if you can get a seat along the water. The service is very quick once you get your table, but it may take a while waiting in line on a busy night. Orders are placed immediately through a tablet so the kitchen gets to work right away. Waiter and server were both quick and on point. While waiting to be seated, we witnessed an argument between a customer and a host that ended with the host giving the finger to the woman from a distance, just a few feet from the 4 and 6 year old we had with us. We were there at 6pm and had no indication that this was an adult-only location so that was off putting. Although you’re enjoying a prime location, the prices are still a bit steep. We ordered the Hot Crab Dip for an appetizer ($18) and it came with barely enough chips for two people and dip in a cup that was deceptively shallow. The three adults at our table each got around three bites. I ordered the Fried Clam Platter ($33), and although it tasted very good, New England has some of the best seafood to offer at many places and the quality and taste was not out of the ordinary. Among other items ordered were Kids’ Mac n’ Cheese ($12), Kids’ Hot Dog and Fries ($8), Cup of Clam Chowder ($8), and Fried Haddock Sandwich ($19). If you’re on a budget and determined to try out this spot, stick to a sandwich and don’t expect much from the starters.

Excellent riverside location and view. No-frills style and friendly atmosphere with picnic tables. We tried the Naked Lobster Roll (warm) and bouillabaisse and they were both very tasty. Highly recommended!

My fiancé and I are big fans of The Barking Crab. Despite what others say, the service is fast and the staff are friendly. Seafood is fresh, and delicious. Good beer list as well. I wouldn’t recommend the burger, but everything is perfect. Most of the prices are market, and maybe a little higher than other places. Parking is non existent unless you park in the garage around the block, which will run you around $50 bucks.

Great lobster Mac n cheese and crab roll. I gave it only 4 stars because although the coconut margarita was quite good, it was a whopping $18 served in a clear plastic cup that was about 5 gulps and it was gone! For that price I expected a bit more. But, I would definitely go back. The views are nice and atmosphere is fun.

I was visiting Boston from Canada and wanted an authentic New England meal. First, there was a bit of a wait (10 minutes) to be seated but it was worth the wait. The restaurant does not take reservations and they won't seat you unless all members of your party are there. The restaurant is right on the water with amazing views of the harbour. I had clam chowder and a lobster roll. It was the best clam chowder I ever had-it was rich and creamy with lots of large pieces of clam. Nothing like Campbell's clam chowder soup which is watered down and more potatoes than clams. My lobster roll was delicious and fresh testing-it was like the lobster was just caught a few minutes earlier. My boyfriend had a fish dish and he loved it. He said his fish was tender and fresh. Mariah was our server and she was patient with questions we had about the menu. I highly recommend the Barking Crab!

In A Nutshell: -The Barking Crab is an awesome place to grab some seafood in the Seaport area of Boston. -I tried the Clam Bake (which was a little disappointing, not recommended) and the 1 1/2 lb. Pan-Fried Lobster (which was full of flavor, highly recommended). -The outdoor seating was under a tent canopy w/ a beautiful view of the Boston skyline next to the water. -The service is very good too. Overall, if you love seafood, I recommend stopping by here for bite to eat.

Wonderful restaurant right off the water. Line to dine in was super long, but they had a super easy take out line. Order electronically, leave phone number to get order when ready (which was about 12 minutes), pick up and go eat right by the water 😍 Got the Naked Lobster Roll, Traditional Lobster Roll, and Crab Roll. I recommend any of them!!!! So delicious. The seafood was so fresh. I am from Michigan and love seafood and have never tasted lobster this fresh! Delightful and when we return to Boston in the future, we will be stopping here again 💯

Outstanding! There’s a short wait to get in, but it’s so worth it. Atmosphere is excellent and perfect for a seafood restaurant right on the Boston Seaport. Service was quick and professional. Drinks came out very quickly and we’ll made. Food was fantastic! I had the Naked Lobster 🦞 Roll and Clam Chowder. The best I’ve ever eaten. Highly recommended and we will definitely be back.

Waited for about 35 - 40 minutes, which is normal for this place! People tend to eat fast & leave so the line moves fast. The food was amazing & came out fresh & hot. The lobster roll was fresh & was just the right amount of lobster. The lobster mac was hot & cheesy, it was thin but while it cooled it thickened up. The crab cakes were small for the price but delicious! We loved being able to try this recommended restaurant on our trip! Definitely a fun place to go to if your trip allows the time!

Ordered the crab cakes appetizer, fish tacos, and traditional lobster roll. The crab cakes were good and had an awesome sauce with it. The price for them were a bit steep for the size of the cakes and quantity. The fish tacos were great. I appreciated how the haddock was cut into smaller pieces. I would say the price was worth it. My partner ordered the traditional lobster roll. He said it was “good” but didn’t say much about it. This dish was costly, but it did have a good amount of lobster in it. Overall, I probably wouldn’t return to Barking Crab. We sat at the bar where service was okay. I didn’t care for how loud the music was being played. It made it difficult to carry a conversation and I’m surprised I was even able to converse with the person taking my order. Additionally, how is food going to be such a high price, but we’re given PLASTICWARE to eat with?!?

We went to the tent to sit down. Overall loved the atmosphere and it was decorated for the holidays. We got the Apple Cider mimosa, a clam chowder and the Naked Lobster Roll to share. Everything was delicious. The only negative point was that service was a little slow. Took awhile for our server to come to our table and the food was quick to get served but took awhile after we were done to get the check.

A place with character. One of the better clam chowders around. The lobster roll was good but could have used on more bit of meat given the price. It was bulked up with a layer of lettuce underneath as filler. Nice staff. Decent beer selection.

Came in from out of town, and this place was amazing! Exactly what I wanted for my first lobster roll. Definitely can’t go wrong food wise - get the lobster bisque, clam chowder, crab dip, and traditional roll. Vibes were great, we got seated right away despite there being a line, and service was efficient and friendly! Can’t wait to come back.

Stopped in on our way back from Vermont. This place overlooks Fort Point Channel so a nice location. The place is tented with a pirates of the Carribean type theme. Our party of 9 did not have to wait too long for a table but we would have appreciated if they would have seated us together instead of 2 separate tables as we requested. We order clam chowder, lobster rolls(cold), king crabs, Fried fish sandwich, peel and eat shrimp and bouillabaisse. Everything was done well, no complaints. Drinks were surprisingly decent as well.

Great crab shack! I only had sides and they were fantastic, but I was assured that the lobster roll was phenomenal! Dinner for two was just over $100 with tips, so it’s not cheap. I’m a bit ashamed that they’re doing this tip suggestion thing. Just charge me the real price of food and give your workers some dignity by paying them well enough so they don’t have to “perform” for their salary.

We got 2 clam chowders to-go (the line for the restaurant was very long, but luckily they have a to-go counter with no line!) and asked for bread on the side (no bread bowls, sadly). Clam chowder was good but a small-ish portion. We’re probably going to get dessert in a bit. Those with dietary restrictions keep in mind that the chowder has pork (bacon) in it. Total was $20. Took our food to a nearby picnic table with beautiful views. Overall would eat to-go here again for the experience of eating New England clam chowder with views! Location is very convenient too since there’s stuff to see walking around the Seaport district.

The Baking Crab is located a 10 minutes outside the city center next to a bridge by the water and has a great view. We ordered the salmon and the cold crab roll sandwich. For me the salmon was exceptional as it comes with delicious potatoes and asparagus. However the very popular crab roll was nothing really special to me (my wife liked it a lot though so it's more a matter of your taste). I would give it a 5 star rating if the food was a little less expensive and the service a little faster. I can understand that it's a very busy restaurant but it took us 20 minutes to order. Also it is not exactly cheap but reasonable for it's popularity (you usually wait in line for at least 30-60 minutes). Definitely check it out when you come to Boston!

First time here and it was alright. Oysters were average, expected better. Traditional lobster roll was good, fries were amazing along with the coleslaw. Naked lobster roll needed more butter & lemon. We originally sat in the indoor restaurant and it was super messy. Table was “cleaned” yet everything ended on the seat and the floor was gross. Switched to the outside portion beware if the sun is out you might get sunburned.

We ate lunch here and enjoyed our visit. Food was a little pricy, a small cup of clam chowder was $10, but everything we ordered tasted good. I give this place a four star ranking because of the bad service, our waiter took our order and then we didn't see him again until he gave us a our check. We tried to get his attention several times to refill our drinks but because of the location of our table he never saw us.

Walked by the Barking Crab a few times and finally decided to stop in. Got there just before noon when they opened on a Tuesday and there was a line to get in. Service was very fast and the food was great. Would definitely go back again. We had mussels, clam chowder, fish tacos, and a few beers, all were very good. Next time, when have more time we will definitely have to get the whole lobster. Eating on the deck was a lot of fun. We loved the funny signs they have posted around.

Feel like this is a Boston must see but more so for the ~vibe~. The reason we didn’t order more than a 3lb lobster to share and a beer each was because there was no oyster raw bar, just their house oyster. They also only had littleneck clams (we were hoping to find more large, cherrystone clams). That being said, I would def come back to try their lobster rolls AND crab rolls (which I haven’t seen on any other menus this trip). Their menu has a lot of good options utilizing lobster and crab in different dishes that seemed appetizing! Pumpkin beer was also well received and fitting as a beer for the cold weather. My favorite part was the place itself. The atmosphere was very casual, warm and inviting. Benches for seating makes it convenient for accommodating large groups. Friendly staff was always checking in on us to make sure we were satisfied. I bet the large patio is bumping on warm days. This is the kind of place you want to go for boiled, grilled or baked lobster or you’re looking for crab. The staff will definitely take good care of you and just being in the place makes you feel like you’re where the action is.

This was a really cool place.in the water. Busy with a younger crowd. Really good seafood. Got to try the lobster roll.

Pretty great spot for Seafood. The mains are a bit pricey but good portion & good traditional flavouring. I got the jumbo seafood & scallop platter which comes with 3 scallops, a lobster tail & 4 shrimps on a bed of mashed potatoes. Good meal & hit the spot after my day of fasting. Would recommend as a once in a while spot right by the water. Enjoyable experience.

Great place for seafood and Boston basics in the convention center area. The place is very casual and you can relax and just have a beer and some food without having a strictly business feel. Had the NE Boil with the lobster, calms, mussels and corn, potato. It was solid. The lobster claws were massive. Really enjoy the feel of the place and the food was on point. Good way to have a beer and good food with good company.

I ordered clam chowder and lobster roll. The clam chowder was soooo salty that I couldn’t finish it. The lobster roll had lots of lobster and came on a buttery roll. It was good, not amazing. The fries were the best part of the meal in my opinion. Not worth the price. The next day, I had clam chowder at Whole Foods hot bar, which I thought was way better.

The Barking Crab as a neat view of the bay, and outdoor seating. I ordered the pan seared halibut with guacamole and rice. It was really good and the rice was seasoned well. The guacamole was definitely a highlight. My friends ordered and shared some lobster and the fish and chips. They say that both were awesome. My only major gripes were the prices being a bit high but that's to be expected, I also think my fish may have been slightly dry, but still enjoyable.

Crab cakes for and appetizer and Lobster roll for the main course. Food was good but for a guy from the Midwest $18 for three crab cakes the size of poker chips and a lobster roll that was more roll than lobster seems like a business that makes money of tourists. Fine. It is what it is but I hope people can read this and know going in what they'll get when they order. That being said the food was good. Crab cakes were crispy on the outside but still moist inside and the remoulade paired perfectly. The lobster presented well on the roll which was slightly toasted. The lobster roll comes with fries and coleslaw which were both nicely prepared but the addition of fries to a dish that features a roll is carb overload in my opinion but it didn't stop me from finishing everything on my plate. Service: when we arrived the restaurant was pretty busy but it didn't take long to get a table and once we were seated the service was very good. Everything arrived quickly, warm, and well prepared. All in all it was a great meal. Just know before you go.

After an eleven hour shift I was craving a lobster roll. Sooo disappointed! The bartender was super nice!! Lobster bisque lacked lobster! And the “hot roll” HARD LACKED LOBSTER! I’ve had so much better off the side of the road on the way to the Cape. Ya know when your feet hurt and they are “barking”… dear Barking Crab don’t make me hurt! IT looked like a lot…the bun was hard…not hot…not buttery.

  • 2/5 Fame S. 2 years ago on Google
Really expensive food for what you get in terms of portion size and taste. The service could also be better. The lobster bisque was very salty with little lobster, and the mussels were just ok. I did like the batter for the fried oysters though.
