Pretty big, but the equipment is falling apart and it is literally impossible to cancel your membership even though I was promised the ability to cancel if I moved out of state. I've heard it is nearly impossible to cancel even after your one year contract is up too. They make you send PHYSICAL mail to some office in Arizona only to never get a response back twice. Don't be fooled by the low monthly cost as they tack on large upfront fees and random "maintenance fees" in which you end up paying the same as a lot of other much nicer gyms. Should've known from the sleezy guy who works the front desk most days. Place is a total sham.

Simple Question to Owner if so many members have same complaint about being charged after membership is terminated why do you still do business with ABC ? I was told my membership was CANCELED only to be charged again. Found another gym that's working better for me WITH parking. Stop taking money that's not owed to you...makes you look dishonest.

DO NOT SIGN UP WITH THIS GYM. READ FOR YOUR OWN GOOD. The gym has terribly outdated equipment that is almost always breaking down never to be fixed and just taped off. The staff/owners are horrible. I spent well over a year of calling in trying to get a hold of a single staff member. It took 13 months from 3/2021 to 4/2022 until I was able to get someone on the phone. I moved across the country from Boston to CA, and though in the midst of the pandemic the company was unwilling to work with me on their cancellation policy or to honor their own by codes of it (ability to cancel after moving more than 25 miles away--I guess 2000+ still wasn't enough). (after speaking with the owner about this she was very rude and told me essentially "too bad") This gym has continued to bill me to this very day of my writing this review to the tune of nearly 800 dollars in monthly dues and late fees for a gym I haven't used since February of 2021. I have never written a negative review before in my life as usually companies will be compassionate and considerate with their members. This gym is not the case. The owner is extremely rude and crass and will only view/treat you only as walking piggybanks and will do whatever they can to turn you over and take your last quarter. While I am extremely saddened to have had to write this review; that nearly 1000 dollars would make a giant difference in my life today. I hope that this review saves at least one person the pain and suffering I have gone through with this absolutely vile business, which at the time, put the Gold's Gym company name to shame in my view. Best of luck to trufitness, may they learn something and avoid tarnishing yours as well. EDIT: I was also out of contract and had moved 2000 miles away from the gym. I experienced the same problem as "A" below me where I was still unable to cancel my policy. These people are crooks and the gym is a sham of a business. Do not sign up. Go the extra few miles to a gym that has better business acumen. EDIT#2: I am looking forward to seeing a response to this review trying to negate and gaslight my experience faster than the year it took me to get a hold of someone on the landline inside of the gym.

If I could give this dump a zero I would. They closed down in June to relocate and said “if you want to freeze your account to keep the same rate it’s $10 a month and the new gym would open in September”. Well guess what. It’s December and they still haven’t opened. We’re going on 4 months past their opening date. If your going to be late give your customers a refund for the past 4 months. Also respond to a email. Your probably getting a lot of complaints (which you should). No wonder why you turned off comments on your Instagram posts. Stop being frauds, answer your emails and fix these issues.

Do not go to this gym. The facility itself is horrible. The equipment is old and all pretty much broken. Dirty with dead bugs all over the floor. The staff itself is weird and creepy. I got the no commitment membership and paid extra for it on purpose to get out of my membership easily. I was wrong. You have to mail in a letter request to cancel, and they will process your request in 60days. Meanwhile you will be charged for those months while it’s in process. Get into the 21st century. This place is a joke

THIS GYM IS A SCAM. PLEASE READ. Membership: If you plan on signing up for a gym membership here, proceed with caution. In order to cancel your membership, True Fitness requires you to get in contact with their affiliate company, ABC Fitness Solutions (which is based out of ARKANSAS), and send them a HANDWRITTEN LETTER requesting the cancellation of your membership. Once they receive a written confirmation of your cancellation request, it takes them 60 days to "process" your cancellation aka, you're still responsible for two months worth of payments and potentially more if they actually receive/decide to open your letter (I was charged for three extra months). I've requested a refund multiple times but they've deliberately ignored my calls and emails. This is poor business practice. They know it, and their customers know it. My advice? Steer clear of this gym and spend your hard-earned money at another facility.

DO NOT JOIN THIS GYM. SCAM!! True fitness/ABC Fitness Solutions, LLC has the worst customer service and is most definitely scheming people of their money! Back in August of 2021 I was told in order to cancel my membership, I had to provide a written letter sent to ABC Fitness Solutions. After doing so I received confirmation my membership would be canceled however as time went on, I continued to see charges being made to my account. I have disputed the charges multiple times after no one on their customer service team would provide help. I seriously do not know how they’ve been getting away for their illegal actions but am seeing similar cases in this review section. Would not be surprised if a case action lawsuit is filed against this company. Save your time/ MONEY and go somewhere else!!

Good luck trying to cancel your membership. The salesperson ensured me I would be able to cancel my membership and have the fee waived since I am in the military and knew I would be moving away after about 6 months. After sending all the documentation by mail in January, I kept getting charged (and still am). I reached out and they seemingly lost my documents. I AGAIN sent all of it by mail and every single time I try to respond to emails, I get back generic responses of them telling me I need to send again by mail. It's like the person on the receiving end doesn't have access to the computer system. They have a record of me not being in the gym since November, my military orders, a handwritten letter, yet somehow I can't get the membership to be cancelled nor a refund. I understand that its a franchise and the Southie club owners don't have much to do with this process, but my god if I knew it was this hard to cancel I never would have joined this gym.

Thank you everyone for the honest feedback on this gym. My 4 roommates and I just moved into the area and are looking for a gym, but when we initially read all of these reviews we couldn't believe this gym and its customer service was as bad as everyone was saying. I ended up finding out one of my friends in the area used to belong here and he confirmed how poorly managed and scummy the staff is. Sufficient to say we will not be risking the horror stories reiterated by so many members. Hope this gym gets bought out and completely transformed as I am sure it has potential to be a great spot.

This place sucks. Everything mentioned in the plethora of other bad reviews is true. Outdated equipment, overcrowded gym, and unprofessional staff. I tried to cancel my “month to month” membership (which I paid extra for) and was told I had to call their billing agency and give 60 days notice to do so. I was then told by the billing agency that I had to mail in a cancellation later, as there is no other way to cancel. Absolutely absurd and clearly designed to make the process as difficult as possible. Avoid this place like the plague or watch them drain your bank account before your eyes. What a scam.

This place has been open since late December. Promised locker rooms and a sauna…. Well neither are in yet and it looks like their expensive memberships aren’t enough to even finish the job never mind fix the AC in mid summer. The gym itself isn’t bad and has all the essentials but they don’t keep a promise. How can you not have your AC fixed immediately when it’s late June. Might as well not even put in the sauna at this point. Money grabber. Typical Boston gym. Go elsewhere until they actually do what they say. JOKE. That is the locker room that was promised 7 months ago…

Today I called the gym and asked about their month to month membership, the guy refused to answer and asked me if I have ever been there before, I said no, then I asked again, then he said he will get a gym director to call me, I asked if he is one of the employees, he said yes, then he tried to take my number down, then he said for me to go online, I said I`m already online and scoped their site and I`m talking to him right now so why is it I can`t get a quick pricing over the phone. He then tried to say a director will call me back, then he puts me on hold for almost ten minutes and never came back to the phone. I called back twice, he never answers the phone. I waited another ten minutes then called back a third time, I asked him who am I speaking with, he again puts me on hold and never returns. If this is the first impression your employers give to new customers, how is it going to get any better if I were to sign up and then down the line wanted to cancel my membership ? Reading the other comments in here and what I just experienced makes me feel these people are being VERY shady to their practices. Buyer Beware !!!!!!

Honestly F this place. I am currently a member at a Georgia location for 5 plus years and recently moved to Boston. So I have been looking for an actual gym in the area, so I figure I would try the Gold's here. I called to inquire about membership prices and when I asked the guy on the phone, he was extremely rude! He rudely told me to go on the website and kept cutting me off when I told him it wasn't directly on the website, he just said again go on the website. HE THEN CUT ME OFF AND HUNGUP ON ME!! Don't even waste your breath or money on this place.

I tried canceling my membership a year ago, per the gym’s own instructions, and have still been getting charged every month. When trying to email them to fix this, they simply do not reply. Only sign up at this gym if you plan to be a member forever, because you will not be able to cancel. Edit to reply to owner comment: yes obviously I called, they told me to send an email! How about instead of replying to my review you write me a check for the $700 your gym has stolen from me?

Recently moved down the street from this gym. Noticed they had a free day pass, so I signed up (the website said redeemable Monday - Friday at any time). So I walk over there and show the front desk worker my free day pass, telling him I just moved and would like to try out the gym before signing up for a membership. This worker was very rude and told me the day pass couldn’t be used during peak hours. I looked into the gym and pointed out that it wasn’t even that busy (this was around 730 PM). He turned away a potential customer. Very rude, will not be signing up for a membership.

Never join this gym. Much better options in Southie. Impossible to cancel your membership. A gym that cares about there members would never use a third party payment system that scams customers.

Their South Boston location closed at the end of June. According to their signs, you didn't have to do anything to terminate your membership - it would expire automatically after the next month's billing cycle. Fast forward to October and these crooks are still charging my credit card. THEIR BILLING COMPANY ABC IS LITERALLY A FRAUDELENT BUSINESS BUILT ON SCAMMING CUSTOMERS. Pathetic, immoral low-life losers at True Fitness and ABC.

Went in for my first workout with a friend who’s a member there. Manager told me I needed to pay $25 as a guest. While working out, I see a sign that says a guest pass is $20. Manager wouldn’t refund me the $5. Gym itself was pretty low quality, no bumper plates or powerlifting sections. Weights were old.

Do not go to this gym. Other than it being busy and crowded, whoever owns this company uses a 3rd party billing company and makes it impossible to cancel a membership. They will suck any money they can get out of you and force you to write a letter to cancel (???). A truly awful and unlawful company. I see they've responded to others saying it's in the "contract", but that doesn't excuse how difficult they make it. What about a $99 cancellation fee and another two payments ($100) sounds fair? How about don't use a third party billing service, deal with customer requests directly, and be a little more understanding?

This gym is so bad. All the cardio equipment is basically busted. The free weights are rusty and the gym will still charge you a maintenance fee. I have continuously tried to cancel my membership and apparently you need to send in a written letter to some P.O. box in arkansas and then they will charge you $99 for cancellation processing and a 60 day notice period.

Painful experience trying to check out the gym. The guys at the front desk are rude and terrible salesmen. The first guy told me the “free 1 day pass” didn’t apply on the weekends because he was too lazy to check me in. The next day a second guy wanted to charge me $25 to use the “free 1-day pass” that they advertise online. They lost a potential member by providing god awful customer service.

Literally the worst gym in the planet. They use ABC finance and require you to write a hand written letter in order to cancel your membership. If you don’t they report you to collections and ruin your credit. DO NO GO HERE THEY DO NOT DESERVE A DIME ANS USE PREDATORY PRACTICES!!!!

I'd rate this lower if I could. Attempted to cancel with a letter, online and over the phone countless times in 2020 without confirmation. 13 months later without any attendance to the gym, they charged me over $500 in delinquent fees. No email, notification, etc... just a fee I could not dispute. Delinquent fees are one thing, without notification is another. The worst part about all this is they said they could cancel my membership after I paid, even though I had tried previously around 10 times. Equipment was manageable if you had no other option, no other amenities.

Would give a 0 if I could. Gym is a dump. Equipment is falling apart. Locker rooms have a bad smell to them and feel dirty. Gym is closing in two days and I can’t cancel my membership because they need 30 days notice to cancel but the gym will be closed in 2 days. They have the phone off the hook so I cannot talk to anyone at the gym. Look elsewhere for a gym.

Very misleading from the beginning. If Southie had more open gym concepts, this would be last on everyone's list. If you want to work out before or after your 9-5, good luck. Huge gym, but only 2 sets of each equipment, but it's all old. The membership process is extremely misleading, especially the more expensive month to month plan. Need to cancel 2 months in advance, which was never mentioned in conversation with the employee. I could reiterate what a lot of these reviews have mentioned. Overall, poor experience.

Great gym, a bit crowded around 5 pm - but not nearly as bad as alot places in Boston like BSC. They have all the old school equipment, a couple heavy bags, and a sauna. Everything ya need with no frills. Good gym 💪

I've been a member for a long. I enjoyed going to the old gym. But new location is great. All the equipment is updated. The staff is helpful and friendly. The True Fitness Southie experience keeps me going to the gym.

They moved to a new location and have brand new equipment. Price is reasonable and it’s not too crowded the vast majority of the day. Note that the pictures on google are from their old location and the new location is much nicer with much nicer equipment. They are still working on the locker rooms and I’m looking forward to the saunas that they are installing. Other commenters have had issues with cancellation but I can’t speak to that. Management has been pretty responsive to my emails when I had a billing question. My only complaint would be that there isn’t a strong culture of wiping down equipment after use. It’s sort of a 50-50 thing and to be honest I can’t blame management because they put up plenty of towels and cleaning spray.

Went to use a free day pass here before I got a membership & was told I can only use it on the weekends or “if I was just traveling and was in town”, but I’m reading other reviews that say they told them the exact opposite? If there are conditions to your passes you should probably advertise it that way. I was excited to join this gym before this painful experience at the front desk, yeah never again.

Great gym with modern equipment. Though there’s no parking provided, I’ve always been able to find a spot on a nearby road in the morning without issue

The best gym for the best price in the area. Brand new equipment and very well kept and clean. Excellent location between Southie and Seaport.
