Would suggest patients to avoid this hospital and go to one of the area's many better facilities. The Carney is very under-resourced, the staff is jaded and unhelpful, the nurses are rude, the doctors can be hard to reach, and the patient care is sub-standard. We are facing frustrating issues there currently with a loved one who is admitted.

I have been to a LOT of hospitals in being a caretaker-helper to my late parents, family and friends, a LOT .. AND I have read a LOT of the 1 star reviews here and realize there are a lot of sides and also problems. Having been to MANY other hospitals in and around the Boston area (obvioulsy no shortage of medical centers here in Boston), my personal experience in shuttling in and helping w the care of a close family friend has been positive with Carney in the last few months. In fact it has been a breath of fresh air. The people i have interacted with have been gems, from door greeters to office staff to providers (the docs). I was pleasantly surprised. This is NOT the Carney i remember coming to in the mid seventies when living in nearby Boston, from my experience it has been positive. Yes, it doesnt have the funding of the LMA major centers or the other large teaching hospitals, but for a Dorchester based hospital, my experience has been positive overall. The level of care has also been superb..(thus far). Always plenty of parking with validation, so free parking, no matter how many hours. On the not so plus side, they are stretched thin for resources like say wheel chairs and a few times NO wheelchairs availb.. I must say though, that the times of NO wheelchairs availb, transport was called and within a few mins they brought a not so compatible wheelchair they could leave with us for our friend, SO the immediately rectified the situation by locating a double wide PLUS wheelchair that they let us keep for our outpatient stay there. VERY accomodating. While lost in the maze of corridors, MORE than once i have had staff ask me, where am i trying to get to and then been more than accommodating, from nurses to janitorial staff to reception staff. Overall, i'd say @this point in time i will give them an enthusiastic review as to my personal experience with them. ALSO, their small but modest cafeteria is NOT bad for healthy eating choices when it is open. The lady that makes the wraps is another gem and very customer accommodating as to preferences.

After getting surgery at the carney hospital on my hand. I went to a follow up appointment today and the ladies at the front desk were BEYOND RUDE. I took the day off work for a follow up appointment. It seems they never made the appointment. Instead of admitting there was a mistake and the lady didn’t put it in they gave a HUGE ATTITUDE. I then tried to make the call to the place to make sure I didn’t make an error because there are so many places in carney hospital. When I called to double check the lady at the front desk buttoned my call right in front of me. It was ten am I asked if there was anything they can do. They proceeded to say they would check but didn’t call anyone or check to my knowledge. They said come back Monday. After I grabbed the NEW appointment card, they told me I was rude.

They are booked two months out. A month before my appointment, a receptionist called to tell me the doctor I had chosen needed to push me back an additional two more months, but when I said I had pressing concerns and would like to see a different doctor, we were disconnected. When I called back to finish the rescheduling, it became clear she had abruptly hung up on me and rudely chastised me for asking about a different doctor. I am baffled by this unprofessional behavior. I do not trust this business anymore.

I had a horrible experience checking into this hospital. I brought my nephew in 9/17/23 around 9pm and I was met by the rudest front desk representative. Throughout the 3hr wait time(which I understood) she continuously kept storming out of her post walking out of the hospital with her purse whenever she was met with frustration. Loudly making rude remarks for all of us to hear. I asked her if she could possibly give me a bandaid as my 4 year old nephew had a gash to his forehead and she told me “no, I’m the only one here and they’ll charge you for it. I’m not going back there and this hospital will not lay a finger on you until you are admitted”. I was shocked at how inhumane and heartless someone could be. I do significantly appreciate the medical staff at for their help and care but it needs to be the entire team that represents Carney in a positive light.

I have always been so well taken care of at the Carney Hospital, especially when I was in the emergency room. Doctors and Nurses are so wonderful and whereas I'm an addict I thought I would be treated differently but to my surprise I was treated with so much compassion and when I told the nurse that I was in recovery and that I had a problem with pain medication years ago and eventually heroin, she was so sweet and understanding. I think she was more attentive to me and I can only imagine what would have happened if I went to Boston Medical and told the emergency room nurses and doctors the same thing, I would have been treated like I was a walking disease. Like a leper. (probably spelled that wrong) I will give the Carney a 10 + rating and I would encourage anyone to go there for their treatment (ER) and health care. I wouldn't go anywhere else. Thanks again To all the staff at The Carney Hospital. You are definitely the best. I'm truly grateful for the compassion and care I've gotten the few times I have been there. I will always go there for as long as they allow. God Bless You All

My grandmother got into a serious car crash, they wouldn’t see her until a hour later while she was in pain, Also there were alot of people that were bloody, drunk and screaming in pain while nobody did nothing. Extremely rude nurses that paid no attention to anyone. It was my family’s first and last time ever going to that hospital.

Terrible ER staff. One doctor all the time, nurses and other staff members standing around loudly discussing patient info. Emergency staff give patients wrong information because they don't check to make sure they are talking to the right patients. Everyone sits in the waiting room no matter what you came in for. Chest patients sit in waiting room for however long no one comes to access the person nothing. WORSE HOSPITAL

No stars, horrible hospital. No knowledge or respect - David the secretary is unprofessional and very ignorant . He hangs the phone up on you and asks to many personal questions that does not regard anything and CINDY the nursing supervisor needs to find a new profession if she does not want to help people or to point people in the right direction. This will be reported to the state. Stay off your cell phones and do your job this is whats wrong with the world and people not getting the necessary HELP because even people being PAID to do so, doesnt want to WORK to help people. Absolutley Insane!!! Carney hospital and all theyre staff is a joke!

It doesn’t seem to be a hospital rather a place where the sick and injured are repeatedly told “I’m not your nurse” when you make a simple request for water or ask for help. Or when there is 5 hour wait to receive an emergency ultrasound. No one there seems to want to help patients. Worst hospital experience of me life. I left and went to another hospital where I was treated and nurses actually cared. You are better off anywhere else but carney

She had no clue where she was .. no1 watching her 400 lb diabetic. With two ulcers in her feet . Shouldn’t be able to stand at all. She fell had a heart attack on the floor . No1 to administer oxygen to her brain just one person doing chest compressions . Mom was brain dead died 2 days later ! Never let any loved ones go here. Please. I shoulda sued but my guilt and broken heart kept me from pursuing legal issues .this is the place u bring loved ones to die! Please don’t be like me. Broken and hate filled…not because they did something .but because they did nothing to make sure my mom didn’t hurt herself when she was already delusional . Please take my warning protect ur loved ones . Don’t bring them here!

I had a great experience. I felt well cared for by the staff. Results of my procedure were explained to me, and advice given. I wasn’t sure how much traffic would hamper my arrival. I got to the hospital much quicker than I anticipated. It just so happened the doctors next patient was late, so my procedure time was bumped up and I was headed home to sleep much quicker than I thought.

Awful doctor requested a biopsy and ultrasound of my husband‘s lymph node lump. They only did an ultrasound missed the biopsy request notes called them numerous numerous numerous- wouldn’t schedule a biopsy said no doctor request .. until I showed up in radiologist dept with the fax proving the date and time they received a request from the doctor- that was four months later they finally got us in for a biopsy, and his tumor grew to larger than a softball (from the size of a pea) but they admit no mistakes now (they did in person, but they will admit no mistakes in writing) Although they told us they were going to give us a written letter of the error that happened. People even got fired over this. There was screaming and yelling people quitting because I had the proof that they received the doctors request for a biopsy but refused to schedule us one. I had the fax timestamp, but they said they didn’t get it, no help from the president or his associates. They were nothing but blatantly rude and the president actually said to my husband, (who is obviously a little upset and scared about the growth of his tumor that they wouldn’t look at) president said to us in a meeting and I QUOTE do you think it’s my fault you have cancer”. Imagine that.!!! Would receive a letter from them detailing what happened and what they were going to do so this would not happen to anybody else within a week never received anything and they never returned any of our phone calls. In regards to this error. I wouldn’t go there if my life depended on it, my name is Tammy Abbott weymouth Massachusetts

I went in because of domestic violence and being poisoned. They only gave me an x-ray and an EKG, took blood for heart stuff, and didn't take me seriously. When I got home, I called poison control and they even suggested another ER.. I would not trust with my care.

I have pictures I can of Green Mildew all over the apt of which I caught on my skin and parts on a ground apt. 2016. Is why I went to the Dr. HIPPA? A Dr td me that I did not need an MRI when I asked one for headaches. Then she will secret to the nurse that I thought I knew it all. Wow ! Very healthy chat for a hospital and for your hypertension. Especially if you come from. Foreign to do med here. moved to another state. I was on a ct scan and diagnosed with a brain Meningioma. Really? I go there one day with headache and asked for an MRI. Asian doc tells me that I did not need a mri. I was wondering of how do you know that you don’t need an MRI without getting one. I later moved to Florida and had the same similar awkward headache. I asked the er staff for a act or MRI. I get one and was told that I had a benign meningioma.

The worst place ever!! I signed a form to have my records transferred to 2 facilities on 10/19/23. and the records department never received it. If I could I would give Carney hospital 0 star. My pulmonologist had a secretary called me regarding my lung scan instead of being contacted by the provider. Very unprofessional and incompetent. On 12/3/23 I left a message for my pcp to call me, I have not heard today is 12/23/23. The front desk at the pulmonary clinic was very rude. I will not recommend Carney hospital to anyone.

I had decent care when i had a weekend admission about a year ago. But things here have gone downhill since. Trying to get in touch with any dept is beyond frustrating, with rude staff who do not listen and they cold transfer to depts with no one manning the phones only answering machines with messages where you are prompted to leave name and number because they are understaffed and do not call you back ever! I tried to update my new phone number but they called my old phone number and all this when i have an upcoming test and i was trying to find out info pertinent to that test and all the staff can do is scold me for being in the wrong dept and transfer me around when i used their automated prompts correctly! Also i had an appt for a procedure, they never called to lmk if it was covered and wouldn't return my calls with questions. I was called only a month later for follow up for a heart monitor that was never put on ! Then they rescheduled for me to have it put on, but never called to confirm. There are 3rd parties from other states calling to do pre register. Nothing coordinated at all! I just ended up canceling and will seek care elsewhere as for trying to find answers, Dr is good but not this hospital! No one knows what you or they are talking about. Call answering service ppl or machines hangs up before you can even say a word! Just awful!

My son arrived at Carney at 4pm after being transferred from St. Anne’s Hospital because he has an infection in his j p drain and in his blood stream after having his spleen removed but he tested positive for COVID A Sympathetic ( no symptoms, no fever nothing) He did not receive any care, no iv, no antibiotics, no pain medication as of 8:30 pm when doctor left room. Doctor said he would put in the orders when he leaves his room. They wanted to treat him for COVID not for what he came in for. Nurses do not come when he uses the call button, not even a urinal. 9:40 pm they started an iv that’s over 6 hours without anything since leaving St. Anne’s, 10:40 finally got medicine and they never did bloodwork or checked his wounds. Complete lack of communication with their sister hospital St Anne’s both are part of the Steward family of hospitals. This is a scary place to be alone and sick!

Worst experience for my teen daughter who was struggling with mental health. Doctor would not give straight answers and the social worker wAs a JOKE! I did her job! My 14 year old sat in a psych ward for 2 weeks when she was not even a danger to herlswlf or others.. Hmm insurance??? I wouid not recommend! I keep questioning everything so doctor would no longer speak to me without a 3rd party! (Nervous) then because I advocated and did all the leg work for my daughter they lied to DCF!! Incompetent!!! Oh and my daughter got attacked while she was there!!

I had the most horrific experience at this hospital yesterday. I am extremely traumatized by the receptionists at the front desk, in the ER department who refused to seek urgent care for me when I informed them that I feel like I am about to pass out. Two of them ignored me and the other one told me with a very unprofessional and upsetting attitude to, “take a seat because if you fall on the ground there is no one here to pick you.” I was so shocked and confused by her comment and stood there for about 10 mins suffering from unbearable pain and pressure in my head. Although, I was crying and seeking help no one tried to help me. Luckily, I saw a medical assistance from another department and I expressed my frustration to her. However, I am suffering from a really bad headache and I am trying to reach out to the hospital’s mangers or supervisors and no one has returned my call since yesterday , October 17, 2022. I am so sad and depressed over this and I am seeking some help please.

I went into the Carney Hospital for day surgery. I had the best nurses & Doc. They really took good care of me. The nurse even called me not the day after but the 2nd day so that i was able to rest the day after n have clear thoughts when we talked to see how i was doing and if i had any questions or concerns. I loved being treated like a princess. Thank You Carney Hospital.

I called for an ultrasound and was directed to that dept. The woman on the phone was very laid back and we had a few giggles. Already, my anxiety around this was eased. The day of my apt all roads around my house were closed. After several detours I realized I’d be late and called to let them know. They were generous in giving me a 30 min extension which shocked me! Phew! Okay! I can do this… so I arrived at the main hospital only to find paid parking in front and back. So I spoke with the front desk who told me to park on the street. There were spots available when I returned to the street and I snagged a spot no problem. Easy breezy! Upon entering, I was directed where to go. Found the place no problem! And then I was wish I could remember the ultrasound techs name who treated me because she was PHENOMENAL. Just SO kind from the start! She made me feel very comfortable and made small conversation to distract from the procedures. I was having an ultrasound on my breasts. She warmed the ultrasound gel prior to application which was also very much appreciated. Following the procedure she spoke with me like a mom of a grandmother might do… and the reassurance she gave me was so impactful that I’ve been able to walk through my fears from there out with confidence. That’s something you just can’t pay for! She genuinely cares for the people/patients she sees and was very experienced, very knowledgeable. I wish I could thank her because I don’t think my mindset will ever be the same. Amazing what a stranger can do and the effects that kindness and compassion can have on one’s life… thank you ultrasound tech! What a beautiful woman! ❤️

I joined the Carney Hospital team three months ago and have been incredibly impressed with the level of medical expertise. From the doctors, nurses to the administrative staff, the pride and compassion is felt throughout. I like the fact that their employees are experienced, committed, diverse and multi-lingual which allows them to best support the needs of their patients and families. This hospital is a great asset in the community!

The staff could have been more receptive to the customers needs a team should have provided a cousin with the results or more details on how to retrieve patient information from a website. When contacting the patient, the staff should follow HIPAA policy they should asked to speak to the person who was seen at the hospital and validate whether or not they talking to the correct patient

It was my first time at Carney Hospital. I experience alot of teamwork in this hospital. The receptionist was very nice as walk in and gave me directions to where to go. As I was walk to the employee health to be fit for a mask. This person is a remarkable very knowledgeable and has caring compassion for people. The world needs more people like her. Molly was wonderful she was very kind. She treated me with dignity and respect. You can can always tell a Good Nurse. She always answer all your questions. And Calls you back. As a new employee I think the Carney hospital did wonderful I give 10* As for the lab the girl was nice everything was so quick. Usually when I get blood work I bruise . The person I had on this day was great. Looking forward to starting my job thank you so much!

I was very happy with the treatment I received in my recent medical test at Carney starting with the people in Registration and check in, right up to the nurses and doctors. I have had tests at another hospital where I never had a conversation with the doctors and there were so many patients it was chaotic and a bit stressful. This was a calm and caring environment at Carney. Thank you.

Last week I had my first surgery ever at Carney and I was super nervous, not knowing what to expect. Everyone I interacted with was amazing — they listened to my concerns and were very kind and understanding, and they took great care of me. Special shout out to nurses Dottie and Elaine, Kathy in the OR who distracted me and let me squeeze her hand when I was freaking out, and anesthesiologist Al for being very transparent and also hilarious. The team here is fantastic and I can’t say enough good things about them.

The wait was long but ultimately I received the utmost care here at Carney hospital by the nurse and doctor here. I had went to BMC earlier in the day where they had treated me like a third class citizen, sent me home without any remedy at all and in tears. After that, I went to Carney. I'm so glad. I truly felt like I was going to die, and they took my concerns seriously and showed extreme compassion towards me that brought me comfort when I was in excruciating pain. I can't thank the staff here enough for taking care of me. You are so appreciated.

I cannot speak highly enough. I came into the ER for a leg infection (due to my own stupidity) on Tuesday (1/4/22) at 7:00 am. I was back in an ER room w/ ER nurse Katie, was helping me and I saw a Dr all within an hour. Mind you I went to SouthShore hospital the day prior and was told it was a 12-14 hour wait. I know I got lucky with my timing, but that was only part of what sets Carney Apart. I was admitted and had to spend Tuesday - Friday on the 3rd floor. The staff here is unbelievably kind. Unfortunately I’ve dealt with almost every hospital in the Boston area at some point or another. The Nurses at Carney are Amazing. Anne, Kerri, Sandra, and Jodiann were incredible. So kind and caring. Dr Conner Dean and Dr A were great, spoke to you like a human being. I simply cannot recommend Carney any higher. I know I got lucky with the timing of the ER, but the staff here isn’t luck, try actually care about you ( or at least it seems that way )

They suck!!!!! Always have! I got into a car accident on Sunday and I got out into one last May 2022. The lady working the front desk implied that my family and I could be doing fraud and causing accidents on purpose for payments or whatever. Umm!! Lady who wants to be traumatized and potentially die and have repeated back problems for "payments" next time just do your job mind your business and check us in Thank you very much!

Carney Hospital is the worst today I was sitting for an hour spray bleach in my eye even the receptionist called in the back to the nurses station to let them know chemicals were sprayed in my eyes. Still they hadn’t came to check on me just left me sitting there for an hour. Still no one came to see me or come get me, so I got up and left and went to another hospital. Mind you my leaking and burning vision blurred what a disgrace.

The doctor I saw in the emergency room was very attentive to my condition, and the nurses and staff were especially nice and caring. I've been to other Boston ER's where the nurses simply turned off your light when you asked for assistance and walked away, but this visit was unlike any I have personally experienced before. Thank you very much to the staff at Carney Hospital, and the Boston EMT services as well. Simply being nice makes such a difference!

STEWARD/CARNEY.. I've had the best care at this hospital between the ER and inpatient care with the DR's and Rn's. I would never go anywhere else for emergency care especially after having several horrible experiences at BMC ER room even though I see DRs at the BMC clinic which is very professional in every aspect of health care.

Awful drivers, how they don't have any respect or professional skills, they treat the patients ugly attitude with no consideration. People who've answers the calls are they're friends and relatives so when you're trying to complain about anything wrong with the drivers they just laughed at your complain and cut you off the calls.

I came in for car accident injuries. My neck hurt and I was experiencing pain in my knees and they told me I didn’t have insurance. This was not true and I do have insurance. I recently spent some time here. I was treated professionally and caringly. I felt totally at home with medical professionals here. The Drs were great and the nurses were as well. I'd like to thank them all by name, but there are too many, and some names I've forgotten. Even the support staff (food service, patient transport) were fantastic and friendly. Amber Wilson is a blemish on your facility. Failing to follow through with a promise of helping patients after they've been discharged. I’m embarrassed to say that I used to work here.

Carney used to be a decent hospital before Steward bought it. The service and quality have sadly plummeted since the purchase. I feel so bad for the providers and staff, who try their best under the circumstances.

Patient unable to connect with primary care after hours because the on call service was not working. Front desk receptionist did not have the on call service for primary care and the emergency room could not even answer a question because it was illegal. Disappointing and unprofessional.

Staff members here are extremely rude to patients. It is not worth going here. You will be treated poorly. Last time I am coming here.

  • 5/5 Diane M. 3 years ago on Google
I get my mammogram here every year. They are courteous and professional. I never have to wait. They follow all safety protocols for Covid, I get my results quickly and if there is anything even a little off, they contact me quickly to come back in

took my grandma here last month for broken wrist. she doesn't speak any English. grandma was so happy when the PA (Kim Le) spoke fluent Vietnamese and answered all her questions. she was happy with her care and said she would recommend her friends to Carney.

It was nothing special. I went in mainly for one issue but they seemed really focused on a specific medical issue I have instead of listening to what I was saying. They were nice for the most part but eh that only gets you so far.

I got a COVID test there and everything went smoothly. However my review is because they told me they would call within two days if I had it, and they wouldn’t if I didn’t. I wait to the end of the second day waiting for a call and sigh of relief I didn’t get one. I called multiple times to get a document saying I didn’t have it only on the 4th call did someone answer. I asked since I didn’t get a call I’m good right? “I don’t know what they’re telling people down there.” … not helpful in the slightest and they transfer my call. They say they don’t provide anything with my test result but took down my phone number to give me a call back. 30 minutes passes and I get a call from the same people informing me I test positive. Not only was I going to assume that I was negative but possibly go out of quarantine and infect others had I not called and got a direct answer. I appreciate the individual that did help me, but systematically a whole mess.

I began my stay in the ICU. The staff was very strong, caring and professional. After a few days I was moved to regular care. The nursing staff was young but very talented. They genuinely cared and made me feel special, a great combination hard work and kindness. The food is fantastic, lg potions of tasty, quality food. Lots of fruit. I would recommend the Carney hospital to anyone that asked.

After asking how come after my 4 hour wait time I have not been called even after others that arrived after me had been called. The one person available to answer any questions or help provide any relief for your pain that you haven’t been waiting just laughs in your face. Greatest thing ever

I had day surgery for my sinuses. Everyone from the nurse who checked me in to the orderly who pushed me to my car were caring, professional and knowledgeable. I felt like my surgery was the only thing happening, there were so many smiling faces. Of course the surgery went well and I wasn't in very much pain. Looking forward to seeing the results.

From start to finish my procedure was stress free. The telephone preregistration was simple. Once at the hospital the very friendly nursing staff was explaining each step. AAA+

My experience at the Carney hospital was great I had carpal tunnel surgery after 30 years of hairdressing. I was a little worried as my hands are my livelihood I was soon reassured as I found the nurses were amazing. I found my care to be exceptional and I plan on returning to have my other hand done soon Very pleased with my care Peg West

Had a great experience there. Fortunately it was midweek, 2:30am and it was very quiet. Nurses and Physician on duty were great. Able to tend to me immediately and professionally. Discharge was very quick and right on time.

Had minor knee repair surgery at Carney in August. Really excellent nursing care - warm and professional. Great surgery team: OR nurse, anesthesiologists, and surgeon all super competent, clear, humane. As in many hospitals however the signage isn’t always clear. I arrived as directed early in the morning but found no clear directions telling me where to go or where I should wait. Otherwise had a very positive experience here.

Professional and friendly. Very efficient. Love having my primary doctor in the same location where my tests and labs are done. So convenient.

Did not enjoy my experience there recently, came in sick, nobody really wanted to help me, tried to wait patiently but to no avail, nobody came to help so I had drive myself to Brigham and womens hospital! Really sad because I've been going to Carney for over ten years now. They just don't make you feel like your a priority, not really mad because that was definitely my last and final visit there!!!

The staff was very polite and professional the only complaint I have is there’s a big lack of communication between the doctors, the nurses and the patients There is a lot of room for improvement Otherwise it’s a great hospital

I have been so pleased by the care and concern for the individual at Stewart Carney. I have worked with the doctors in the medical groups affiliated with the hospital and love how things are integrated and appointments can be booked by the referring practitioner, that bloodwork and testing just means walking to the other part of the building. I’ve been to the ER and pleased by the short wait and thoroughly diagnosed. I also had a procedure and worked thru the surgical unit and pre op setup. It’s been a great experience all the way around.

The Carney Hospital is doing an excellent job. I went into the emergency room and was screened immediately by a person surrounded by a plexiglass booth for both worker and patients’ protection. Then you are seated in a very clean and socially distant seating area for a very short period of time. The nurse comes brings you back and immediately starts your care. A doctor immediately comes in for assessment, theN the head doctor comes right in. You then are escorted across the hall for an X-ray. They read the X-ray, talk to you, follow up with paperwork with instructions and any meds you may need. The nurses are awesome. They are very smart organized and friendly. Excellent experience.
