I would give them zero stars if I could. Stay away at all costs! We brought our daughter there when she was suffering from exhaustion due to an illness. She was also having suicidal thoughts after reading the book "Thirteen Reasons". She was unable to sleep for more than a few hours at a time, and she was in a bad place. After a 15 minute consult the psychiatrist (who we later learned was a second year resident) wanted to label her as manic, bi-polar and a whole host of other things, and to put her on a bunch of medications. We refused, and asked if they could just give her a sedative to help her sleep. They reluctantly did so, and she was much better the next day. Then I (mom) went to meet with them yesterday when my husband was at work, and they called DCF and reported us as neglectful parents because we did not bring her in sooner. We are not mental health professions, and she never told us directly she wanted to kill herself, it took a few weeks for us to understand what was going on with her physical and mental health, and we were in contact with medical professionals throughout this process. Now we have the state investigating us for abuse. They have now changed the diagnosis to ADHD and autism spectrum disorder (based on the fact that our daughter did not look a clinician in the eye). She has no trouble looking people in the eyes when she is in her normal state. She has been there for less than 72 hours, and it has been a nightmare for us. While we are leery of posting this must personal information online, we feel the need to warn other parents about what is going on at this place. The social worker was also a witch, very cold, and not helpful at all. Her treatment plan consisted of e-mailing us a bunch of links to programs for counseling support after our daughter is discharged, and basically telling us to figure it out on our own. This has been a grueling ordeal, and a massive waste of money. With our deductible, we will be out over $5,500 for this mess, and they have done very little to help!

OK so I was here at the children's CBAT unit for exactly 3 weeks and 1 day. It was a very nice place. The showers/bathroom were completely cleaned after every use, occasionally there was a single piece of hair in the shower but im not going to complain its not that big of a deal. The food is probably the best "hospital food" I have ever tried (if you ever go I recommend chocolate chip pancakes and mixed berry smoothie for breakfast :)) The staff were all very nice, I wouldn't say professional but it also wasn't a very secured unit if that makes sense, there was need for some professionals but not all needed to be. There was a fight that occurred there that one of the staff did not do a very good job of stopping. One of the staff is constantly on their phone ignoring everyone, he once left the outside door open onto the patio which could have ended badly if there wasn't another staff in there. One of the older staff who is mostly very nice and funny would sometimes shame you if you ate a lot of food. Beds were actually decently comfortable, and you had no roommates you own room all to yourself. Theres no limited clothing items like shoelaces and hoods which is nice. Kids were all pretty much really nice to each other and got along for the most part. It was annoying that the staff has to follow you around constantly and listen to your conversations with other kids but whatever its just them doing their job. It was a very nice hospital and I have very little complaints.

My son went to St.Franciscan's Children's hospital for dental work , everyone there was great. He had the best care , everyone was so kind and understanding . Everything went smoothly, I was very pleased with the care my son received here.

For the most part, I enjoyed this program. I was in the inpatient unit a few times, and while I was there, I received pretty good care and short-term treatment. However, I do have a couple of complaints. For one thing, the type of treatment that one receives in this program is not very transition-oriented. The psychiatrists have a tendency to treat patients as if nothing has changed from the previous day. I cannot recall a time when I was asked "What can we/you do to ensure that you have a better home life?" This may have been because they discharged patients almost randomly. My other complaint is that whenever patients were acting up and/or being aggressive, a code was called throughout the entire hospital. I get that they might need assistance, but I believe that they could have implemented a system that lets the right people know without having the entire hospital know that a patient is acting up. But, the program did help me, at least short-term. Therefore, I give this place three stars. Summary: Care was good, but post-discharge plans weren't. Some minor privacy issues.

My daughter was a patient on two separate occasions this year and had nothing but positive things to say about it. Everyone from the Nurse Manager, Brian, to the socials workers, mental health counselors and psychiatrists are just incredible people who truly care about their patients. My daughter said Brian was there almost every weekend to check in and say hello to the patients and just provide support. The nurses were incredibly kind and patient, especially when my daughter had to have labs drawn. Patrick, one of the counselors, was especially helpful in times of stress and talking with my daughter when she felt overwhelmed or needed someone to talk with. We cannot thank you enough for the positive impact you've had and all the amazing care you provided.

I stayed in Unit 1 (if you know, you know) for sixteen days. I couldn’t leave. That being said, Franciscan Children’s staff, policies, and overall impact on me was incredible. *ALMOST* (I’m going to be honest) every staff member in Unit 1 is kind, fun, personable, compassionate, and understanding—while still being strict and firm when necessary. The policies and rules surrounding patients’ visits, privileges, and passes were straightforward and did not punish patients for distressful behavior. The impact this unit and this program had on me (AND on my other hospitalized peers) was overall outstanding. I would absolutely recommend this inpatient unit (although patients don’t often have the option to choose where they are hospitalized) and I commend the staff for their impact on me and my peers. Although the experience of hospitalization is in itself awful, Franciscan Children’s Unit 1 absolutely made it as painless and pleasant as possible. Thank you. -Thomas Contonio

r this place was wack the food was terrible and i refused to eat while inpatient just because i was a picky eater so they diagnosed me with an eating disorder and tried to send me to an ED place when i did not have one, they told me i wouldnt of been there for more than ten days and i ended up staying for two weeks and then got sent to another hospital for two more weeks. they treated us very child-like and didnt even let us talk about our mental health issues with other kids and kept us very restricted and gave us no coping skills to use to further our treatment, the "lessons" they held were usually just drawing and stuff. i got out of there nearly a year ago and i still have nightmares. one of the nurses was SO disrespectful and told another patient that they were lying about hearing voices and that anxiety wasnt real and yelled at them when they had a panic attack and she also ripped down a lot of the art we hung on the wall. they also didn't have much control over the kids. there was this one person who would walk into other people's rooms (which wasnt allowed) and steal from the other kids. other kids would stand outside the shower doors while someone was using it and just.... knock on the door for no reason. another kid used to just flicker the lights and scream at both the staff and other patients and throw stuff around and they did NOTHING. one time a kid said they were feeling terrible and wanted someone to check up with them through the night, and when the staff didn't do that they ended up trashing their room and cutting themselves. they didn't let us call our parents on the phone sometimes which was very stressful. it just wasn't a positive experience and did nothing to help with my mental health. honestly, do your kid a favor and don't send them here.

Worst Medical Institute Ever. only reason we were willing to deal with their joke for a billing departments, subpar service and outdates equipment is because we and our kids loved our physician. They recently made a reorganization and let some people go - so we've let them go.

HORRIBLE!! They are over booked, understaffed, and lacking in time as well as compassion. If you are looking for the time it takes to give proper care and attention to your child/children’s dental needs, consider a different place such as children’s. Front end office was completely disorganized, appoint was mixed up and wrong dates and times were given. The actual appointment they took 10 min looked in my child’s mouth and left her with a exposed nerve, no X-rays were taken and rather then give her a temporary filling, and then scheduled us for three months out. The reason for not giving a temp filling was because they didn’t want the extra work of removing it at the next appointment. Of course the very next week my child was swelling and complaining about pain, crying and sleeping. We called and they told us would try to schedule appojment. We called back the next day and they said we missed the appoinent. Turns out, they were calling the wrong number. When I went to complain, I was given an office manager, who was dismissive and condescending. Instead of shifting things to see my child as an emergency, they ordered penicillin and scheduled her out for another two months. At the time of writing this, my child’s tooth is in danger of having to be pulled as an emergency rather then saved as it could have been if a temporary filling was a fixed. Not to mention all of the pain it is causing her. All of this so a dentist wouldn’t have to remove the temp filling at the next appointment. Patients best interest or is this a case of trying to manage an over burdened work load? I was given the name and number of Amanda who is some sort of advacate employed by the hospital. It seems they have a well arranged escalation process, that is choreographed to defuse complaints, reminicent of a used car salesmen who referres you to his management for better treatment and deals, while the reality is they all want to sell you the car. I’m a father, not unreasonable, educated enough to know manners and respect. I am not writing this to “hurt” the finances of a business, I’m writing this to you mom and you dad who are looking for the best care and atmosphere for your child/children when they need it most, you can do better then this place!

It seems to me that everyone's review is for the dental department. Well, let me tell you about the Rehabilitation Center . It is amazing (personally). I have met some amazing people here: whether they were staff or other patients. They had Child Life Specialists who visited all the patients and made sure they had something to keep them busy and they also gathered us patients together and let us hang out from time to time when we were free at the same time. Nurses would take us outside and let us enjoy the fresh air. The staff was like a second family to me. They made my mom feel welcomed and at home whenever she would come to visit. The physical therapists were all extremely kind and took time to get to know who they were working with. For example, I started working with Darcy and we would always talk about her daughter or something like that. I really felt close to all the therapists. The doctors were also a huge help. They helped me monitor my meds and prescribed me medicine when I needed it most. I usually saw Marjorie (or Mar Mar as I liked to call her). Marjorie was always so sweet to me. She knew about my vision problems (I had fluctuating vision) so she bought me a Kindle so I could enlarge the text and read during my leisure minute. I still have it and I couldn't be more thankful. They even gave a select few patients an iPad that had an app on it that was connected to the nurses' iPhone so you could tell them what you need before they even enter the room. It was great! They even let me use the iPad for my own personal use. I don't know about anyone else, but I couldn't have asked for a better experience. ♥

If I could, I would give this place 0 stars. I went here myself and I did not like it. First off, I'm a picky eater so I didn't like the food. So everyday my parents had to bring me food when we live about 40 minutes away from Franciscans. The staff is nice and so are the kids. They didn't help me one bit there and they had a very packed schedule. I am terrified of needles so I asked the staff if I would have to get a blood test or a shot. i told them that I was afraid of needles and then they said maybe. They could've said that it depended on what my parents thought. Though I was only in that place for two nights, I got no sleep at all. Even though I was there for a very little amount of time, it was the worst experience of my life. If I were the staff, I would think about how the child feels in the situation.

I liked how people understood me for the first time. even I had a mental breakdown and the staff handled it so well. it felt like I had a second family there. food was amazing also. I wish the best for anyone who would attend and hopefully you had a successful recovery. its trey if anyone who remembers me.

The staff at Franciscan children's are some of the most unprofessional individuals I have ever had the displeasure of meeting I can honestly say that the staff do not understand what the patients are going through and therefore do not know how to properly treat them if I had to sum it up the staff are more like babysitters than anything else The facility at Franciscan children's is small and uncomfortable I constantly felt like there were too many people being put into one room The schedule at Franciscan children's is cramped with long periods of patients being unnecessarily forced into their rooms never did I find the schedule helpful as events were never on time overall I felt like there was definitely room for improvement in the schedule The food was nasty My thoughts Franciscan children's they do not understand that they are dealing with kids lives what they do their effects I do not at all thank you for reading and have a wonderful day

This place was amazing!! From the time we walked in to the time we walked out! My 4 year old had to have teeth removed. Everyone and I means EVERYONE was so beyond friendly and caring!! They each took the time to explain and answer any questions we had!! They also did not leave my child in the dark or scared about anything.. Each person took the time to explain things to him and how they work! My son brought his teddy bear (who also got his teeth done 😁) and they even dressed the bear for him and also gave him some "magic air" to relax and sleep.. I would recommend this place over and over again! Great staff and clean building.. It was also a fun building with art all over to calm the little munchkins going in for surgery!! Thank you again for being so kind to my son.. Also thank you for not picking on me for bawling my eyes out in the waiting room LOL!! AMAZING!!

Had 5 year old son in for dental work. The staff is absolutely amazing, made both my son and I very comfortable and reassuring. They calmed his nerves immediately as well as my own. Can not say enough good things about the staff. The facility, waiting rooms and recovery rooms are kept very clean. Not that I want to come back to any hospital but if the need ever arises, we will be sure to come here.

My daughter had dental work done here and everyone was so kind! As soon as we got there they gave her coloring pages, crayons, markers, and play doh. They gave her the mask that was going to be used to make her fall asleep, and let her decorate it with stickers. They showed her on an iPad a picture of the surgical suit, and a picture of the recovery room, and explained everything that would happen and assured her she was safe and there was nothing to be afraid of. I was not aloud in the surgical suit due to me being pregnant, luckily they allowed her Nana to be with her while she fell asleep. I had very bad anxiety about her going under anesthesia and they made this experience as stress free as it could be. When she woke up they came and got me and I walked into the recovery room to see a nurse cradling her, rocking her, and patting her head- this meant SO much to me to see how compassionate she was towards my daughter. Very happy with the care my daughter received.

What a wonderful place and staff!!!!!! They go above and beyond. My daughter is autistic. She received Feeding Therapy in the past and is doing great!!!!!! Currently receiving Music Therapy - for those who don't know exactly what it is, it's behavioral therapy, your child won't be learning how to play an instrument. This is helping me tremendously, it helps me keep my sanity. She also receives Speech. She's doing fantastic! Everybody I met there is super professional and really care about the children. Awesome services! Awesome people!

My daughter that is 4 yo went into the dental surgery section of the hospital she is very anxious and has high anxiety when it comes to drs offices , especially dentists and everyone was so calm , and so nice that she was very calm and mellow ‘ everything went so well that i would recommend to anyone that has young children that are very fearful they answer all questions and made me feel comfortable at a time when I would usually be very anxious! All i can say is thank you so much for caring and being so compassionate to not only my child but also to myself n the father !!!

Staff is helpful and friendly when it comes to dental work, but their follow up is terrible. First they left me a voicemail in Spanish? Couldn’t understand it so I call and explain the situation and they say I’ll have someone call me back to check on my daughter. A week went by and nothing. She’s complaining about pain and all I can do is hope they will return my calls.

This review is for dental clinic. It was our first time here and first impressions say a lot. 1. Couldn’t find dental clinic so I asked someone who worked the for help. She took me to the wrong area! How do you offer to walk me to the wrong department????? 2. Finally made it to the children’s dental area and was on time for my appointment. I was provided paper work to complete which only took me like 4 minutes to have it done because it was short. BUT front office staff took almost 20 minutes to put my info in computer! It doesn’t take that long if you know what your doing. 3. I had to ask front office 2 times what was taking so long to be seen as it took 40 minutes of waiting. She said she had to put my info in the computer. My response to her was that it shouldn’t take that long to handle that. 40 minutes really come on! NO ONE ever came to acknowledge us to let us know they were running late if that was the case. Wait, but how could they be running late? as when I walked by earlier I could see no patients were in exams rooms people were just sitting around socializing. 4. this is supposed to be a children’s hospital, right?!!! I did not find staff to be friendly at all. Instead I felt disrespected by front office staff, because she made me feel like waiting didn’t matter so just wait. I don’t recommend this hospital. Based on the overall reviews I wonder how this place is not closed and getting their act together. If you want medioquer treatment go there. Never again

i'm here currently in the adolescence unit, i've been here five weeks. The treatment is for stability yet i'm stuck here because of insurance and there is no one making an effort in easing my stay. also if you get bullied or if a client comes at you- they do nothing . they don't move the other people or anything you're stuck fearing your life or hating yourself

While the care was good for my child when he was there for a procedure. I am quite displeased over the whole billing process. I get a bill 8 months after the procedure is done for anesthesia, I tried to find a way to pay online but there's nothing set up for that.. So I call to make a payment to the billing office over the phone, they don't take credit cards. What century are we in?!

My daughter recently was set up to go to this hospital through her dental team (Dr. Kritsineli) in Plymouth. From the time I had to speak with hospital staff on the phone for details on the procedure to the very last nurse walking us out to the car when it was finished, the experience was amazing. My daughter was in the first group of children for the day so we were there at about 6:30 am. Franciscan was easy to find in Brighton, and is smaller and inviting to kids and their families-- felt more like a clinic than a huge hospital. The desk staff were friendly and efficient, wait time was minimal. The group that brought us into the waiting room for the OR was so reassuring. My daughter was leisurely brought to a play room where the nurse took her vitals (she let her play the whole time and even stopped to let my daughter play uninterrupted a little because she sensed she was getting nervous). I was even more nervous than my daughter and the team kept everything calm and reassuring the whole time. After vitals, a child specialist visited with my daughter and let her decorate her own anesthesia mask-- she kept popping up through out the rest of the visit right when we needed it and was so personable and awesome, truly great with kids and families. We were then brought to pre-op (I think that's what it was?), the little area before the OR and each kid/family got their own little curtained-off area to get familiar with their bed. So advocates and nurses came and went for about 10 minutes, making sure things were ready. Finally got to the moment of the procedure and my daughter was given a choice to stay on the bed or walk alongside and for some reason that seemed to empower her (and me) so we easily made it to the OR. As the anesthesia was being administered, I got to hold my daughter's hand and talk to her. I was then taken to a waiting room and was told where the cafeteria and bathrooms were, that they would come get me right when my daughter was done. About an hour later my daughter's dentist Dr. Kritsineli came to us to say that she had fixed everything, fillings for four teeth and a flouride treatment. So efficient, fast, and reassuring, that was the best moment of all. Dr. Kritsineli told us my daughter was fine and resting and to wait a few minutes and we'd be called back to her. A few moments later we were led to the pre-op room and got to sit with my daughter as the nurse went through post-procedure stuff, what to expect--eating, drinking, follow-up, and hospital discharge. We then easily woke her up and she got to eat a popsicle and have water. That all was about 15 minutes, and we were heading out the door. Hands-down, the best experience and I truly believe it didn't traumatize my three year old in the least-- which I was expecting because she had to go to OR for the treatment. So thank you, Franciscan Chidren's, two thumbs up!!

Watch your child extremely close in the dental department . The dentist performing sedation procedures should not me working at a hospital / facility that specializes in working directly with children . Not compassionate. Extremely unprofessional. I brang my child to this hospital because it was recommended highly and is a children’s hospital , I have quickly found out that every visit it kept on getting worse . My son is extremely sensitive when it comes to dental work, if I wanted to traumatized my child I wouldn’t have drove an hour away to go to a hospital that I thought would definitely be looking out for the best interest of my child . Instead my child is screaming and crying at the top of his lungs for over 15 minutes before I finally went in to the room to witness my child straight jacket / restrained down to the chair . Not one employee came to get me as my son is freaking out . So it wasn’t a pleasant situation to be in .Every other child that was there regardless of the extent of the sedation was all there for the same reasons , and was in and out of quickly ( that’s right it must be because of my insurance ) My son is only 7 years old . I don’t want him traumatized from getting strapped down to the chair and basically powerless and his screams and cry’s were obviosuly being ignored by the team . The dentist not making situations any better has a very poor attitude . Very spiteful way of communication and extremely negative attitude . Another thing is he very spiteful and said something about my insurance probably not being able to cover the next step up of sedation and saying it’s so much money out of pocket can I afford that out of pocket . It was an extremely rude and spiteful manner that I couldn’t beileve a provider that works with children could have that type of mindset.Horrible experience for me as a mother to go through and for a child as well .Try being a little more compassionate and caring to your patients there children there impressionable they are nervous and as we all do know having dental work isn’t the most pleasant experience to go through as adults so how do you think a child feels. I honestly wouldn’t want any one to experience what me and my son went through or even worse !

My child has been a patient here since I adopted her in 2004. The staff here have always treated my daughter like gold and have recommended the best of the best that exists. And if my insurance wouldn't cover it, then I would pay for it - but what I was glad about was that I found out that things existed. Before they told me, I didn't know certain things even existed. I love this place.

Our kid had his dental procedures done under general anesthesia at Franciscan recently and had a great experience. All the nurses and child life specialists were very kind, giving him toys, showing him photos of the operating room. They explained everything to us and walked us to wherever we needed to go, including to the parking lot when we were done. The anesthesiology team is experienced and functioned smoothly. We were kept well informed the entire time. It is a smaller and older hospital but provided great care nonetheless. We were very happy that we had his procedure there instead of private office.

CantC get anyone on the phone in the Dental department. No one returns calls left on an answering machine. When I was finally connected to the front desk, to set up an appointment, I felt like I was being a bother. Not a good way to start.

The dentist was so sweet that I hate to make a poor review but this place was terrible. My son was referred here by his dentist to compete a job that he wasn't able to finish. It took 3 months to get in. We drove 95 min to get there and it was just a consult. My son went 3 months with hole in his tooth and your telling me you can't fix it today. They asked if I wanted a cleaning while I was there and I agreed so my time wasn't a complete waste. Boy was I wrong. She brushed maybe 3 teeth then put fluoride on them. Billed my ins for a full cleaning. I will never go back! Went to a pediatric dentist closer to home and got the job done that day.

Would have been 5 stars except one of the staff members called me "ignorant" because I failed to notice she was on the phone....

I had an amazing excperiance, I met some amazing people here and made some close friends, It didn't even feel like a hospital it felt like a summer camp. They have fun activities and games.

I was at Franciscans for 3 months. Although it wasn't ideal it helped shape me into the person I am now. Without the help of these people I most definitely would have been dead

My daughter was there and she didn't want to leave, she even ran away back to there to not have to deal with the bullies at school.
