They have the best lavender lemonade I've ever tasted!!! I got the curry chicken breakfast sandwich and it's absolutely delicious

I had high hopes for this place. The iced vanilla latte I ordered was okay but I would have gotten an extra espresso shot to balance out the milk to coffee ratio. The staff on the other hand were not very friendly. :(

Really great coffee, sandwiches and pastries, with a few vegan options. The Tofu Breakfast Burrito, the Sweet Potato Sandwich (sans cheese and aioli), and the coconut cranberry scone were all delightful, especially paired with an oat iced latte. The outside seating is very nice when the weather is good!

Employees are nice and service is great, but dirty and run down. Seemingly a popular place though, I arrived around noon and it was hard to find seating. Pastry and egg salad were decent.

I want to like and support this place because it has been a JP institution for years, it is a very queer-friendly place, and it is very convenient for me, but it has really gone downhill since (I think) the last time they changed owners. The last few times I went here they had either closed early or stopped serving espresso drinks before their official closing time. This is a real drag for me since my schedule dictates that I am often showing up right before close. On top of this, they eliminated what were, I thought, two of the best things on their menu: The delicious crumb buns and the egg soufflé breakfast sandwich on their own light and fluffy bread that I thought was easily one of the best in Boston. They replaced it with a completely generic egg+bagel thing. I might be willing to overlook all of this if the coffee were amazing, but sadly it is not—the espresso shots are almost always super watered down and over extracted. I really don’t want to patronize Caffe Nero instead but for now at least it offers a more consistent experience with slightly less watered down coffee (and is open later!). I’ll keep trying of course, since I’m not leaving the neighborhood, so hopefully things improve eventually, but I’m not very optimistic at the moment.

I go to the gym right next to Ula, so I thought it could become a convenient place to get coffee and food after a workout. Unfortunately, I have been burned almost every time I’ve given it a chance. I’ve ordered in person and waited 20 minutes for a sandwich when I’m the only one in the store. I’ve ordered a drink online and waited 15 minutes past my pickup time. Most bewildering was when I arrived to pick up a latte I ordered online. I was earlier than my pickup time (I’ll admit it!) and I waited for about 20 minutes, during which no one asked me what I was waiting on. I could see about 4 orders up on the Toast screen at the espresso bar and there was only 1 other person waiting next to me, and the people working the bar were chatting and did not appear busy. So. I asked someone if there was an order under my name coming up soon, and they told me, “Yes we have it. It’ll be ready by your pickup time 15 minutes from now.” If there was a long line in person, I would have understood. If the Toast screen was full of orders, I would have understood. I would have understood in probably any other situation than the one that existed, which was 4 pending orders and 2 customers waiting. A little confused, I politely asked if there was any way it could be started sooner. They agreed to make it for me before my pickup time, but seemed visibly annoyed with me. I’ve worked in a busy cafe in Boston so I get that things get chaotic and stressful, but every time I have experienced delays of up to 20 minutes I have been one of only a handful of customers waiting and have received not so friendly service. I want to support Ula as a local business and I understand that working in the service industry is hard and taxing, but after the wait times and the general attitude of the staff, I think I’m done.

We visited Ula Cafe today and showed up just after 4 not knowing they closed at 4. The super kind human working at the counter saw the logos on our jackets from the company we worked for and complimented the product and offered us some of the premade sandwiches they already had prepared. So appreciate the kindness after a long drive to the city and the sandwiches were delicious!

A very cozy cafe in a heritage bldg which was a former Brewery…!! Decent espresso, Tea & bakery selections and very friendly + welcoming staff…. Ever time I walked by staff they made sure to make eye contact & smile 🙂👍🏻 Spent all my three mornings here planning my Boston itinerary for each day 🙂

Hot ham sandwich is unreal and the coffee is always great. Many locals swear by Ula Cafe for coffee and lunch treats. Best cafe in the area by far. YUM YUM YUM

If you’re looking for the long and short of it, I highly recommend ULA for its great atmosphere and rich coffee. It’s not the atmosphere of a Cafe Nero or amazing blend of coffees like La Colombe, but it holds its own. There is a nice selection of vegetarian options, though I’m personally an eater of meats. The space is a mix between industrial and artsy with a nice array of local art hanging on the walls. I’m not a huge sandwich fan, but the decent selection of healthy bites and some unhealthy bites (with bacon) are fresh and delicious. Being a neighborhood place, the service is hipster friendly, as opposed to hipster “I don’t care if you’re alive, because I need to get back to my record player.” There’s a lot of space to meet or study (at a bar space with lots of plugs). The free WiFi is quick though for mail and casual web browsing. I’ve never had a bad experience there. And should you stick around for a bigger bite, walk 1 minute to Bella Luna!

Love loved my experience here! Food and coffee were *chefs kiss*. Staff were incredibly friendly and warm. Vegan & vegetarian options were a plenty. Just as an FYI they are not currently allowing eating/drinking indoors due to Covid but there are some outdoor seats with umbrellas available. Will absolutely come back when I’m in the area next!

Popular amongst lgbt and millennials because it is women and black owned and there isn’t much else around. It has nothing else going for it. It’s in a strange location and we didn’t find any of the food we ordered good, the two breakfast sandwiches we ordered were pretty plain and scorching hot.

Really disappointed by my recent experience at Ula. I have a service dog and twice staff rudely told me she had to leave. When I explained she was a service dog and I was ordering and then would go, they rudely repeated she wasn’t allowed and walked away. The cashier ignored me and was engaged in a prolonged conversation w a customer well after their order was placed. Needless to say I walked out as I clearly wasn’t welcome. I have been coming here since I moved to the neighborhood and this was the first time I had such a negative experience but it was quite memorable and not in keeping w ADA. I will not be back and am really disappointed in them. UPDATE: I cannot speak highly enough about the owner, Beth, of Ula. She reached out to me and she made it a point to re-train her staff about service animals being allowed in the restaurant. Beth was so kind, compassionate and responsive and I am truly grateful. I cannot wait to go back to Ula with my dog. What an incredible business-owner and member of our JP community. Changing my rating to 5 stars!

I just moved to Jackson Square and Ula Cafe has quickly become my favorite coffee shop. Their baked goods have been incredible- the pumpkin bread, zucchini bread and scones have all been delicious and I can’t wait to try one of those donut muffins. The nitro cold brew was perfectly smooth and their espresso doesn’t disappoint either. It’s clearly a popular neighborhood spot, always full with a small line forming. I’ll likely start to order ahead to avoid the wait.

The food was good but have some wait time. We went on Sunday afternoon for lunch after having couple of beers at Sam Adams. They have our door seating too. The place is hip and have artworks too inside. There were lots of people inside and outside of the place. And they welcome everyone without borders.

Two months ago I was visiting Boston and we stopped for a sandwich before our Sam Adams tour. There hasn't been a single day since that I haven't thought about their turkey ranch sandwich. It was the most delicious sandwich I had ever had.

Location is cute, OJ is fresh and good and I had a breakfast sandwich, it was OK but not worth 20 min wait. They have food lining up and no staff to serve it. Probably need to be a bit more efficient.

Ula we love you! This is our neighborhood cafe and my partner and I always feel so welcome here. Prepare for a line on weekend mornings, but the friendly baristas keep it moving and there's usually seats available. Delicious pastries - our current favorites are the blueberry scones and the donut muffins, but they bring out new things all the time so that could change! Always plenty of families, friends and neighbors here... Ula feels like an institution!

Love ULA but the sandwich service is incredibly slow. They should honestly pause or stop online ordering because it bumps people who order in store to wait longer because the kitchen gets slammed with to go tix
