Great neighborhood cafe for Portuguese breakfast. Cozy atmosphere with familial flare and decor. it's a snug fit but good for chatting locals and tourists while you enjoy delicious food. I got the Le Porto Végé and it had an even balance of egg, veg (zucchini, red pepper, onion), and potatoes. Had a good amount of spice that didn't overpower the dish.

The wait was insane. They told us it was a 15 min-wait o be seated on the terrasse, but after 20 min waiting they placed us inside… Then we had to wait literally 45 min for an omelet and a sandwich. The place itself, the decoration, the plants and the terrasse are really cute tho. Perfect for a brunch on a sunny day

So so so good. Delicious breakfast sandwich, and even better vibes. The staff were beyond kind and cool. Everything was sooo yum! Update: went back - the veggie omelet sandwich with blue cheese is maybe my favourite breakfast sando I’ve ever had. Unreal. The Spanish omelette is also delish - a big meal!!

Let’s just say five stars ++++. There isn’t a finer place for me. Firstly, Chez Jose is located on one of the sweetest corners in Montreal. We got to sit outside too. The staff is welcoming and friendly. I started with the most delicious Kung Fu smoothie. Now I want one everyday. So nutritious and delicious it will cure whatever ails you. I moved onto the lentil burrito. Felt spoiled yet righteous since everything was fresh and healthy. If I lived here Chez Jose would be my local. They also serve a beautiful Portuguese breakfast. Something for everyone!

Chez José Café in Montreal truly impressed me with their Portuguese breakfast options. The plate with chorizo was hearty and satisfying, with the spicy sausage adding a delicious kick to the eggs and potatoes. The vegan version was equally as impressive, with a variety of tasty plant-based components that kept me full and satisfied. The pastries and desserts offered at the cafe are also top-notch, with Portuguese classics and vegan options to choose from. Overall, I highly recommend the Portuguese breakfast and the other offerings at Chez José Café for a delicious and satisfying meal. The staff was very welcoming and service was fast. Definitely a different type of vibe but you'll love it!

Nice spot for Portuguese style brunch, we liked the food although it can use some more seasoning. They have a variety of vegan and Gluten free options, our waiter was super nice and accommodating. The place and the vintage vibes are nice, but they have a single bathroom and it can use some tidiness. Would definitely recommend if you’re ever around the area.

Insanely delicious food and top quality service. This family run restaurant is top tier. I had plans to go somewhere else, but then found this spot and the vibe instantly attracted me. The vibe was 10/10, and the waiter suggested the meals and he was spot on. I had the Mexican crapes and the egg tart for dessert. Highly recommend visiting this spot if you want a delicious meal and good vibe.

W.O.W. This brunch was incredible. The food, service and ambience was top notch. I don’t even know what we ate but they have options for vegan and non-vegan and it was Delicious! Get the Portuguese tarte and the breakfast platters! Coffee was great also.

One the best breakfast places to try if you are around Montréal area. It does offer some traditional Mexican and portugese dishes. The food was cooked up to order and it has such a delicious flavor. I am definitely going back to try other dishes

I had to write this review the moment I left this restaurant. I am genuinely impressed by the quality of the food and the speed we got our plates. Not to mention that it was super tasty and delicious, but for a breakfast I had a strong meal, perfectly prepared and well balanced! Charle our waiter was very kind and friendly. The service is great with good recommendations. I was particularly pleased with the Natas and their coffee is really good! This is such a small restaurant but with big potential and even bigger heart! Absolutely recommend!

Being an artist, I feel Cafe José is one of the most beautiful cozy cafe in Montreal. I have been here a dozen of times now for the omelettes for breakfast. Dine inside among the beautiful decorated artifacts or outdoor during summer/fall for the pleasant breeze and view of Mont Royal. Plus I met the poster boy of the cafe this time, who gifted us two tarts)

This place has a truly unique and eccentric vibe! Located in what looked like a hippy neighborhood, its colorful decorations from the past century, such as old TV posters and other memorabilia, add a distinct charm. The design is truly one-of-a-kind. The atmosphere is vibrant and diverse, and the menu offers a variety of food and drinks to choose from. The service was friendly and nice, not exactly attentive but doing a decent job. I loved the way they served water - in empty liquor bottles! What a creative and cool idea! Unfortunately the only one thing I didn’t appreciate was the food, it was honestly quite a let down for me. The Portuguese breakfast, in particular, lacked proper seasoning and was a bit greasy. The looks just didn't match the taste! On top of that, the majority of the Portuguese breakfast consisted of chorizo slices (it was overwhelming) and the side salad had some sort of odd looking and tasting dressing, not a very good one! The omelet with ham was decent, but even the generous portions couldn't salvage my overall experience. The Pasteis de Natas were also a letdown. Having tasted the real deal in Portugal, I could immediately tell that something was not right. They were mushy and didn't have that fresh taste I was looking for. I thought cappuccino might help, but even here I didn't win the lottery, it was very average in taste. It was worth the try as I love Portuguese food, but it quite did not hit the mark! Visited on Saturday, June 2023. Paid by card.

A tiny, eclectic cafe with a great vintage vibe. Good service - very happy with how flexible and quick our server was. The food was very good although the common consensus was that it was lacking in seasoning. Their single bathroom could also use a serious clean and tidy up. Definitely worth a try though!

One of the best experiences that I’ve had. Pros: Good - food, service, ambiance, menu options. Cons: is small, don’t fot a big group of ppl. Robert the waiter is super friendly and helped me to pick my order since the whole menu is what you feel like having. Delightful overall experience I rightly suggest it.

Delicious food all around! You have to try the hot sauce! We asked our waitress and she says it's made in house and they wish they can bottle it. Hopefully some day in the near future, they will! We wanted to try a place that's not your typical eggs benedict/French toast and this menu delivers just that! There was a short wait but the food is worth it! Would love to come back to try other things on the menu! Love that they have lots of vegan/vegetarian options as well!

Wonderful little hidden gem!! If you want to try a different taste, this spot is the place. The Portuguese breakfast was amazing, the presentation, the taste, the cortado.... everything was great. The atmosphere makes you feel like you are on a street in Porto.

Portuguese breakfast, Mexican omelette & seafood soup were our orders & they were honest, delicious meals. Went there at 9.30am & it was empty but the crowds came in subsequently. Service was warm & overall a cool place for brunch with unique Portuguese-Mexican food.

What a cute little hidden gem! We had the soup of the day a seafood soup and it was so packed with flavor it was ridiculous! I could have drank that broth straight from the bottle if I thought I wasn’t going to judged. Also had this egg crusted pastry it was divine!

Nice little café. The seafood soup and Portuguese breakfast were very flavourful. The pasteis de nata were among the best I’ve had. Coffee was just average. There was a small line when we arrived, we waited around 15 min and were seated at the covered terrace, which was quite pleasant.

The atmosphere is incredibly amazing. This is going to be one of my favourite places to go whenever I visit Montreal for sure. We tried the breakfast sandwich with turkey and cheddar. 5/5

I stopped for brunch, and I was glad I did. I had the sandwich with chorizo and cheddar, with additional potatoes and salad. It was very tastey. The staff were super nice as well and I would definitely come back.

Nice local spot. Natas aren’t made in-house but brought over from Lisbon. Probably not the best In Montreal but certainly don’t disapoint. Very friendly staff. Stop by and give it a try!

Simple amazing! We stumbled upon this place looking for brunch on the last day of our visit. It's an eclectic joint that all the locals go to. There was a small wait when we arrived but definitely worth it. The food and service were really really great. We'll definitely make a point to go back on our next trip to Montreal. Highly recommend!

Came here for brunch as we were staying at a hotel close by. Food was fantastic with very generous portions. Get the Portuguese tarts, it’s served warm, with cinnamon and a wonderful treat to end the meal. The staff were extremely nice and we just loved the vibe of this neighborhood restaurant.
