This review is a challenge to write. Five stars for the personnel, zero stars for Boulder Community Health management. I've been a patient since Gunbarrel Family Medical opened in my neighborhood. The staff and doctors have always been responsive. But I am incredulous that hospital management would force out my doctor, a person who is tremendously competent and caring, whose decisions and guidance I trust for my health. That doctor, my doctor, is no longer there. The behavior of management makes me question the whole BCH system.

I didn't even realize how bad my care here was until my husband found a new doctor, outside of Boulder community health, and she was so much more caring and involved than Dr Horner it was like night and day. My concerns had been brushed aside and never followed up with for years. The final straw was getting less than optimal test results via their online portal that no one from the office called me to follow up about, no explanation or guidance. I have also had my treatment here coded wrong which resulted in steep medical fees and the doctors and office staff are unwilling to consider recoding. I do not recommend using this office or Dr Horner for your medical needs.

Unacceptable attitude and tone from a short haired female staff member upon check in. Unprofessional, rude, and condescending. Avoid this place if you want to be treated with basic decency and respect.

1 star for the clowns making the decisions, 5 stars for Dr. Anna Rooney. There is a petition to get her reinstated. In less than one day, it gained 55 signatures. I am on the autism spectrum and identify as nonbinary. Being without my trusted doctor of many years during this time, is very difficult.

They would not give me the price for an uninsured patient for a simply physical to update my meds as I moved from PA to CO. They said, "we've never done that before" and told me they did not know the costs. Having seen another doc there, several years ago, there was usually a fee that was palatable and that's why I returned. Not the case anymore. Also, they prescribed a 10 day refill for a med I've been taking for high blood pressure for 5 years. I have to return to the pharmacy every ten day? Not a chance but now have to see another doc to get this corrected. This team is no longer what BCH was.

Really not a fan of this place. Originally worked with one doctor who was a little hard to schedule with. Second doctor who saw me for an issue while my primary was unavailable coded my procedure incorrectly for insurance, then upon being called out on it, I was told that they can't re-bill it differently or they'd be liable for insurance fraud. So I am paying thousands for a bill that should have been never filed. In addition to that, my main physician is now gone, and they didn't tell me where she went... meanwhile I just had a physical yet the will NOT give me an RX for a motion sickness medication I have been getting RX's for over the course of the last 15 plus years. What a disaster. They didn't even recommend a new physician for me when they told me mine was gone. I do not recommend this place at all. Sloppy facility with a few good hearts and a LOT of miscommunications, errors and poor execution.

I was there Fri. 10/21 getting stiches for a laceration on my hand and had an MA named Karah, not sure of the spelling. Her demeanor, professionalism and helpfulness were off the charts excellent. And the man named Steve, the PA who did the stitching was also very good. Thank you for seeing me within 1 1/2 hours for this bit of urgent care!!

Crazy! But, I don't have a doctor in Boulder County. Despite being here for almost 30 years! I don't get sick very often -- so I really never established any connection to anyone. But yesterday, I was feeling absolutely terrible and knew I needed some antibiotics to thwart a persistent and exhausting respiratory infection. I called Gunbarrel (near my house) and they found an appt. for me. I am delighted to report that my first visit to the clinic may be the start of a great journey with Ruth Bentley! Not only am I not into medical stuff, I am also not a review writer. But, I did read some reviews before I went to the Gunbarrel Family Practice. I just wanted to add my review in case anyone else reads these. My experience was FANTASTIC! The phone call to make the appt. was amazing. I don't know who I talked to, but she was empathetic, funny, kind -- and, she got me an appt. that day! Ruth Bentley was full of spark and energy, effervescent, supportive, really listening to me -- VERY much on top of everything I needed!! I feel so much better 24 hours after my visit. Parking is easy. Wait time is minimal. And, as Ruth pointed out, their clinic makes it feel like you still can have a small-town family practice experience. And, shout-out to King Soopers Pharmacy. They were awesome too. I never knew how good they were because I was so into Pharmaca. King Soopers was great! Anyway . . . this is a great Family Practice. And, I thought I should throw in my two cents!!

This was an extremely unprofessional experience. I went in for a horrible uptick in my GERD symptoms from mild and manageable to constant acid in my throat destroying my vocal cords plus heavy bloating, burping, and various other symptoms. I had found that eating made these diminish somewhat, but probiotics helped the most, so I figured it was bacterial. NP Ruth Bentley repeatedly interrupted me while I was explaining my symptoms and medical history to convince me that I had a stomach ulcer and not a bacterial infection, that I needed proton pump inhibitors not antibiotics, and that she can't prescribe antibiotics anyway. Proton pump inhibitors are notorious for making ulcers worse, making people dependent on them, making it harder to digest food, and other long-term side effects. Stomach ulcers are almost always caused by either chronic NSAID use (haven't used more than three over the last several years) OR H pylori infection. She said the test to determine whether I had H pylori would take a week to get results, but I had negative results in six hours. That in and of itself is suspicious, but it also takes the body a couple weeks to develop antibodies (or at least for them to show up in the blood stream), and I had only had symptoms for five days, plus the three day incubation period to develop symptoms after ingesting H pylori is less than two weeks. Thus the negative result is probably meaningless. She said she prescribed the PPI and sent a referral to a GI doctor, but the prescription was never received (not that I want it), and the referral states I have to wait 7-10 days at least for my appointment to wait for the test results I suspiciously got in six hours. She also never once asked me routine questions about other symptoms after interrupting me while I was listing mine, and on the visit summary she put a symptom I don't have and didn't list several I do. NP Kelly then proceeded to poke my arm five or six times to get a blood sample, giving me a small hematoma. Next time I'll insist on seeing a doctor in my network, not a pathetic excuse for a nurse.

Only good experiences for the past 5 years - kind staff, helpful MAs (Meghan), and a wonderful PCP who listens and has helped me get the proper care I need (Dr. Plonska). I wouldn’t be in as good of health today if it weren’t for Dr. Plonska.

I got new health insurance through work and called to make an appointment with Gunbarrel Family Medicine. The receptionist assured me I was in-network. I get to the appointment and am told I am not in-network, and whoever scheduled the appointment should have told me that, but I can still see the Dr. if I wanted to pay out of pocket. I didn't read any of the abysmal reviews until I looked up directions to the office. I saw not one smile in the building. Stay far away from this place.

In all the doctors I've met over the years I've had mostly good experiences that is up until yesterday with a horrible experience with Dr. Ruth Bentley. This was my first and last appointment with Dr. Bentley due to it being the worst and most unprofessional experience I've ever had! I made an appointment with her for my 10yr. old daughter due to her having skin problems on her face...cheeks and nose. I wanted another doctors opinion knowing that this kind of doctor wasn't a dermatologist I knew it would be a different kind of visit, but was hoping it could still be some what helpful to me. My primary doctor unfortunately was too far booked out and I was wanting to get my daughter in ASAP so I went with Dr. Bentley and got an appointment with her the next day. The two things I knew going into this appt. was she's not a dermatologist and we weren't the only patient she was seeing that day... obviously and therefore didn't expect our visit with her to end up being very unprofessional, being disrespected, and not being helpful what so ever. Only 30mins into our visit with her and I feeling unsatisfied with her suggestions that she told me after I told her I had already done all of that due to her 3prior appts. with 2different dermatologists and I proceed to tell her it didn't work and if she had any other suggestions. Dr. Bentley made it very clear that she felt she did all she could do to help my daughter and I in 30mins that she didn't allow me to even have a sec. to think if that's how I wanted to move forward and wasn't given a chance to ask ?'s/follow-up ?'s and concerns about the medicine she prescribed and if she even called it into the pharmacy because I was being rushed by her.Than she had the AUDACITY to tell me that she'd already been with us for 45mins and that she needs to wrap things up now because she needed to get to her 4:30pm appt and she didn't want to be disrespectful to them! After the shock wore off from what she just said to me, I looked at my phone in my hand and saw the time was 4:15pm which gave her plenty of time to finish up with us and make it on time to her next appt. at 4:30pm. When I proceeded to get upset with her and telling her I didn't appreciate that and I felt disrespected and that she was being very unprofessional and made this a bad experience for us she began to back peddle and tell me that's not what she meant and didn't apologize to me until after I got upset with her. After being rushed and unsatisfied I just decided to go with her suggestions and to just give me the paperwork and to just call the prescription into the pharmacy. Instead of staying professional she just continued to back peddle and take back what she said to me. At this point I was too upset and just wanted to leave after expressing my feelings. She than made up the excuse that she felt like she was going to throw up and didn't want to do throw up in front of us and than she just walked out of the room and never came back. She moved onto her next appt. without me knowing if she had finished up with us before she just walked out of the room and never came back. Finally another doctor walked in never apologizing for Dr. Bentley be so unprofessional walking out and not finishing with us and she wasn't helpful either. I've never ever in my life had a doctor tell me what Dr. Bentley told me and it's definitely was such a bad experience that I'll remember and will never go back to her again.

I really appreciate the staff and doctors at this branch of BCH!! It’s easy to get an appointment, park, and the waiting room is not crowded. The staff are friendly and the doctors really listen. My tween daughter and I have both switched from the Foothills hospital location.

I finally found an excellent primary care doctor and facility! Dr Plonska is my primary care doctor and she's wonderful, knowledgeable and level headed with giving practical advice. She's sometimes booked up for sick appointments so when I recently suspected I had pneumonia I got in within 2 hours to see Dr Hiew, who is newer but also great. All the medical and front desk staff have great customer service and really care about their patients. I was lucky to be able to get a chest X-ray immediately during my appointment (and this was repeated for a pneumonia follow up a week later). So nice not to have to trek down to the BCH main campus for X-rays! My husband recently had a bad experience at his primary care place and switched to Gunbarrel with no issues, they saw him same day for a sick appointment and were also great with him. I highly recommend!

I had occasion to see Dr. Joanna Plonska for an office visit and to receive my Covid booster and flu shot recently. Always, this is a good experience as the doctor keeps up with my health issues and my records and helps me to be proactive in my health care. I have never had anything less than a positive experience seeing my primary care doctor at Gunbarrel Family Medicine.

Had an amazing experience here until Dr.Anna Rooney was my primary (5 stars to her). She had the patience to listen out the patients concerns and discuss the possibilities of getting treatment. However since she left and Dr. Jillian became my primary, my first visit with her was when I tested positive for covid. She did not show any interest in listening to my problems and giving me the required treatment options to lessen the severity of my symptoms. She wanted to finish the call in 2 mins since I had already tested positive, her only comment was it will go away after 5 days. I had severe throat infection and I had to press her to address that concern to which I did not receive any valuable feedback or treatment options. I am very dissatisfied and disappointed with the service received.

After 20 years, I gave up on this office due to recently abysmal mismanagement. In 2020, my long-time doctor left and notification was woefully slow coming. Two months ago, my replacement physician left and I was never notified. In both cases, I found out only on inquiring with the office during scheduling. And in both cases, the remaining staff treated me as if I were never a patient, denying any obligation to provide continued care. They actively insisted I should not think of the office as a "practice" of cooperating providers, but as individuals sharing office space, and said it was inappropriate to expect assumption of care by anyone else unless I restarted as a new patient. Even after agreeing to a costly new intake evaluation with an NP, upon seeking a follow-up a month later, I was told I would need a new intake (at full/repeated cost) for yet another provider, because the one last month was treated as temporary. Upon escalation, BCH patient advocate office told me to expect resolution of all concerns within days. A full month later, despite numerous calls and messages from the advocate to both of them, neither the office manager nor facility director, has returned my calls or even heard my concerns, let alone taken steps to address the inexcusable problems. Another "they'll call you today" message came and went yesterday; still nothing. I could not be more dismayed or discouraged. It's a long drive from Gunbarrel to Boulder, Longmont or Lafayette, but do yourself a favor and go somewhere else.
