We stayed for a weekend on the third floor. The hotel is in a lovely location with views of the sea from the outdoor terrace. The outdoor pool was very welcoming it being the hottest day of the year. We also used the indoor pool which is located in the hotel next door. We booked for bed and breakfast. The breakfast was buffet style and there was plenty of choice. The poolside menu was smallish but the food was lovely. A bit expensive but you get what you pay for.

Stayed here for our anniversary. Staff are all really friendly and professional. The room was nice and the sea view was great. The en-suite could probably do with an update. The food is in our opinion 9/10. The breakfast was was really good and you can have as much as you desire. We would definitely stay here again.

Room: 2/5 The double beds are small, it is possible to fit two people but it’s quite tight and not spacious. Style of the room is very outdated, specifically carpeted flooring. Carpets aren’t hygienic at all, especially for hotels/rentals because you can’t mop floors before new visitors come. Should be wooden or marble ideally, especially for a “4 star hotel”. Would say a decent thing is the overhead lamps. Bathrooms 4/5 Definitely great interior design, clean, great lighting - though quite small and cramped which is the only thing limiting. Bathrooms are definitely 4 star, though can’t say the same for everything. Hallways and interior 0/5 Carpeting is actually hideous, looks like a pub floor. So so outdated, and the interior has a wafting dusty smell, accompanied by more smells that I can’t even name. Lift is way too small, mirrors inside the lift are nice though. The lounge space is decent, I didn’t try any of the food but I can’t imagine it’d be nice. Exterior 1/5 Looks like a worn out hostel/poor apartment block. The lights for the name of the hotel are literally off, but not fixed. Just seems to lack the effort or standards to keep up a good reputation and appearance. I will say that the outdoor pool is brilliant, I like the plants and the outdoor seating. Not bad for the UK, doesn’t make it any better though. Service/hosts 1/5 My friend and I did have a good time, but I have to say I did feel very disappointed when I heard one of the workers at the lobby gossiping about other visitors staying at the hotel. It was clearly discriminative. There was a huge party with a mix of different cultures, seemed mostly west African and was lovely. Though a lot of guests seemed to have such an issue with this, and staff felt comfortable to gossip about it with other visitors who were not of the crowd. Quite disappointing, and showed some clear racism. Not surprised. Sleep 3/5 We did have a bit of a struggle getting to bed at first because of loud noise from the party in the lobby, but after a few minutes it was okay. I’m all up for people having fun! Spa/swimming services 4/5 Brilliant indoor pool, sauna was lovely. Absolutely loved it and didn’t want to leave, though the best parts were really from the sun cliff next door, rather than Cumberland. Outdoor pool was really nice too. However, changing rooms could definitely be improved, felt very old and outdated. Seemed like it hadn’t been changed since 2000. Location: 5/5 Walking distance to a lot of restaurants, right by cliff and beachfront. Though you will have to ask for a seafront room. All in all, wouldn’t push it past a 2/5. I would probably stay at the sun cliff next time, and would recommend that much more than this.

Hotel urgently needs a general refurbishment. Generally clean, but when you start looking closer, not that good. Evil is always hidden in details. Reception staff friendly and efficient. Lift is a disaster - slow and accepts max 3 people. Pool-needs tidying and refurbishment. Parking on site-difficult, although shared with 2 nearby hotels. They tried to charge us double for breakfast - be careful. Breakfast itself-poor with littke selection. Maybe it's highest time to realise that hash browns, bacon, sausages and cold scrambled eggs are not best options for everyone and world's cuisines offer a lit of delicious breakfast dishes. Advice - book without breakfast and then pay in restaurant for breakfast - cheaper and better taste.

We enjoyed Christmas lunch here and absolutely loved it. The food and service were of excellent quality and standard. The lounge areas were perfect for the after dinner blow out for relaxing, napping and continued grazing! We returned in the evening for supper and entertainment which were again of a very high standard and service

Stayed here from 27/03/2023 - 31/03/2023 in a group travel. The restaurant very good with variety of menu. The lounge was furnished with extremely low sofas which was impossible to get up without assistance. There is no disabled toilet attached to the restaurant. The one elevator was for three people only servicing 4 floors, extra long waiting time for use and difficult for older people. The bedrooms were tastefully furnished with standard amenities but the razor point in the bathroom would only operate if the light was on, so useless for a night light. I do not think the Hotel is up to 4 star standard.

Amazing staff, rooms are good just a bit warm for us. Location is great and food was lovely. We have had many Christmas party's at this hotel and have never been disappointed.

I’m currently staying here for one night. I also stayed for one night a week ago. The first time I came, the lifts were out of order, the music was very loud and I couldn’t sleep until 1am when it stopped and also the tv is very old school with hardly any channels. I had a maid come in my room without knocking, although I had the do not disturb sign on the door and it was way before check out time. I was also naked at the time having just got out the bath. This made me very uncomfortable as I did not know when next someone may burst into the room unannounced. This time I came, I was very eager to try the restaurant food and although I’m a guest, I’ve just been informed that I can not eat in any restaurants here as they are fully booked. As a paying guest that’s very hungry, I’m not happy. There are no shops or restaurants close by even to walk to. I expect to be able to use a hotels facilities when I come to stay. I’m not a happy guest currently. The sea view rooms and views are lovely though, although the bathrooms a little dated. With these things in mind, I would stay here again as I love the size of the sea view rooms and I love the balcony with the views. I like being able to get room service and to be honest, I’m still very eager to try their restaurant food.

Was only visiting friends staying at the Cumberland Hotel, so I can't comment on the rooms, though they were very happy with theirs. We did have three meals there and found the food excellent. The staff were professional, polite and helpful. Sunday lunch was especially nice and very good value.

Lovely hotel with very helpful staff. Quite a walk from the pier and town centre, but great views from the hotel. Dining area very nice, breakfasts excellent. Evening meals, great choice and beautifully served and presented. My own personal negative, if I can offer one, although there was a fish option every night, I would have liked traditional and chips. Our last night was our wedding anniversary and we were presented with two glasses of bubbly! Thank you. Overall a great stay and a great break.

Spent a lot of time in the lounge enjoying some great soft jazz/ambient music to sip cocktails to. Restaurant food delicious. Although I didn't book accommodation there I can only base my comments on part of the hotel. Staff efficient . Food good and affordable. Out door swimming pool and seating area very popular . Will book next year.

The Worse Hotel We Have Ever Stayed In , Do Not Book Here …… Rude Staff And Out Dated Hotel! Possible the rudest staff members we have ever come across and others guest agree ! Lisa the front desk Manager laughed at us and was speaking down to us whilst we was checking in and had the worst attitude ever along with the other front desk lady . Room was terrible with our view facing a brick wall. Hair dryer was broken and room having a funky smell and when we reported it they simply didn’t care ! It felt like we was in an old peoples home whilst staying here and it needs some serious TLC as it’s dirty in most parts and most things are broken. I must say the bar manager with glasses was very polite and attentive so that’s one good thing ! But as a whole the worst experience ever and we are expecting a full refund as it was my dads 70th and it was ruined!!!!

We had a 3 day company off site at the hotel. Meeting room was a good sized, good supply of coffee, working lunch in the rooms was tasty and better than large brands The room was clean and comfortable with a good sized bathroom. Staff helpful As I was late, staff put luggage into my room for me before i formally checked in. Good sized bar. Excellent breakfast with a very wide selection for all tastes. Would like to see black pudding as a option for the cooked breakfast.

Attended a wedding anniversary party. Beautiful room, lovely food and fantastic professional staff. We had a wonderful evening. Beautiful art deco hotel right on the beach front

brilliant location, nice view if you have a sea view if not, just have to step out side to see the stunning beach view. only down fall it that hotel can do with a bit of TLC inside and out. overall I'd stay again.

Upmarket but relatively expensive for a 4 star hotel - abundant hot water, but cold water a dribble and shower (consequently?) defective (4th floor); no coffee machine or coffee bags. One tiny lift with maximum of 3 people. However, WiFi was excellent and breakfast was good value. Seaview room was delightful, staff always very friendly and helpful. Pleasant quieter location at edge of town centre, but if you're walking back at night it's advisable to stick to well-lit main roads.

Attended a festive dinner with Tina Turner tribute act, followed by DJ. Planning of event was very good, service was excellent. Food was good and all served in a timely fashion. Overall hotel clean and tidy and would recommend

We went for New Year Eve party Around the world buffet (third year running so obviously enjoying it before booked for this year) Won’t be going next year, no atmosphere service was awful, food was dry cold and tasteless. Dismissive management when we asked if our table could be cleared after eating. The champagne welcome drink was most definitely not champagne. Last year stayed in the hotel, glad I didn’t book for this year as we were home by 11.30, so bad we left early

Brian made our wedding day so special, the ceremony and evening reception was amazingly set up. The staff are extremely friendly and made us feel really welcomed. The bridal suite was clean and top notch. Both my husband and I give the hotel a 5 star rating and look forward to staying over again.

Clean tidy well presented rooms.Good location on cliff tops. Food was good but never given enough vegetables for a table of 10 people, needed to request more every evening.Meal Service was slow and chaotic until final nights meal.... Breakfast, buffet style, was very good. The lounge furniture is extremely low and difficult to alight from.

Brilliant location. Our room was clean and spacious with a beautiful pool and sea view. Reception service was very welcoming. Bar staff were courteous but inexperienced, undergoing on the job training. Buffet breakfast, although plenty of choice, seemed a little overpriced at £15.95.

Low water pressure, not soundproof enough and you can clearly hear people talking. They have loud private events taking place till late and if you need somewhere to relax then this is definitely not it. 150/night for an overpriced hotel that comes short of anything less than a 2* in my opinion. Also pools and gym advertised as part of the hotel is not in the same hotel and is quite misleading. Avoid!!

The rooms weren't quite as big as we expected when we paid extra, we did get a sea view but we were on the ground floor and the astro turf was full of cigarette ash and stubs, probably from the balconies above. We also put a request in for twin rooms but were told on check in that it's only a request and requests cannot be guaranteed - no apology, just a "can't be done" type answer so book the right room first and if you have requests call in advance to make sure they can accommodate

The staff and the hotel were very good. Food was very good. It was end of January when we stayed and hotel was heated to a good temperature. Lift only holds 3 people. Had a great time as part of a coach party visiting Bournemouth.

Just returned home after four day stay at The Cumberland Hotel. After reading reviews we almost cancelled our holiday, but decided to give it a try. Pleased we did as it was excellent; food very good, staff very helpful, hotel clean and modern. Highly recommended.i

The staff were lovely and very welcoming. The spa advertised sadly is in a sister hotel with limited ability to organise if you're just on an overnight so plan ahead. Location was good on the sea front with a 15 minute walk to the town and directly above the cliff so beach access isn't immediate. I would very happily stay again and next time hopefully sample the food.

We have had two rooms here. Be careful with sea view rooms, they can vary in size and decor but but both we had were nice. The indoor pool is in the sister complex next door and it leaves a lot to be desired. It's hard to find, tired and the hairdryer in the ladies changing needs to be in a museum! We attended an elvis tribute night which was great entertainment although my food order came incorrect it was quickly rectified. The bar is a splendid opulent area to enjoy a long island ice tea. A massive downside is the walls are thin, we could hear next doors TV.

  • 2/5 Frederik K. 1 year ago on Google
Overall a disappointing experience. The hotel looks ok from the outside and the rooms have a decent decor too. However the cleanliness is shocking, in our room we found a bunch of hair on the floor in the bathroom, an open pack of biscuits in one of the ‘clean’ mugs in our room and a DEAD cockroach on the chair in our ‘freshly cleaned room’… At the same time the sun beds have probably our lived their life (a few years ago) and the edge on the pool is sticky… The hotel has potential but seems like there are a few things that need a proper upgrade…

Stayed at the Cumberland 5 -8 August 22 with another adult and my disabled parents, who are both in wheelchairs. The staff there were amazing with them. So helpful and understanding of their needs. The lift was very small, only a wheelchair and one small person would fit but we were given the option of using the service lift whenever we needed, but coped without. The hotel was very accessible for the wheelchairs. We stayed on a half board basis. The food was excellent. a good choice and very tasty. My parents didn't want to leave! Thank you Cumberland for making their 58th Wedding Anniversary so special.

  • 4/5 Food M. 1 year ago on Google
Hotel is part of a group so although they have outdoor heated pool here the sister hotel next door has indoor pool/sauna/gym. You can use the facilities of any in the group. Broadband signal is decent. I was working as well as taking a break with family. Lift is small but i believe there are only 4 floors. Staff helpful. Breakfast options include gluten free cereals and bread. Almond milk also available. Would i stay here again? Yes but I like to try new places.

The biggest downside of this hotel is the noise. If you want to sleep at night, I would highly consider a different hotel. We were on the first floor and the people above our room made so much noise it felt as if there were 5 people in there! Below, I have listed the pros and cons of the hotel. Good things: -Our room isn’t supposed to have sea view, but we got a partial view of the sea view which was nice -The room is nicely decorated. -Great Location, near to the beach. -The process of registering your car at reception was simple and straightforward. -Having access to an indoor swimming pool is a bonus when it’s too cold to use the outdoor one. Bad things: -No Refrigerator (minibar) -TV doesn’t work good ( the signal is bad) -Swimming pool isn’t inside the hotel, you have to walk to the next hotel. (After using the swimming pool, we had to walk outside in the cold back to our hotel which wasn’t ideal. -How is this hotel advertised as having spa when you have to walk 2 hotels down the road to access it?? Absolutely absurd. -Receptionist didn’t explain to us that they even had a swimming pool! (she probably couldn’t be bothered) Plus, she wasn’t very nice at all. -Very noisy neighbours at 12:00 am in the morning. You can hear people walking upstairs. -The breakfast was £16 per person which is far too expensive. That’s like paying for a lunch in a nearby restaurant! -The sink is not very comfortable for use and water goes everywhere. Plus the water pressure isn’t strong which meant we couldn’t shower properly. -The TV remote didn’t even work. We had to use the buttons on the TV to change channels. Overall, I don’t think it qualifies for it to be a 4 star hotel, it’s more of a 3 star. I wouldn’t personally visit again due to the noise level.

  • 5/5 Michael W. 1 year ago on Google
4 star hotel probably the best presented hotel I've stayed in outside swimming pool. Terrific panoramic view out to the sea. Food is very good. Staff very friendly and helpful pleasant personality. Not cheap but for a special occasion would highly recommend it.

  • 5/5 Nathaniel D. 1 year ago on Google
It was a beautiful experience. I went with my mum, dad, cousin, brother and aunt. The pool is really good. It has a deep end for experienced swimmers and a shallow end for learning swimmers. The beach is just a five minute walk from the hotel and the food is great. All of the beds were comfortable, the bathroom was well cleaned and the cleaners do a really good job cleaning your room. The staff were really kind, and if you get lucky, you'd get a beach view. This hotel was a really nice one. 5/5.

  • 5/5 Jake T. 1 year ago on Google
The food is really nice and way above standard for most 4 Star hotels. You also have free access to a gym with cardio machines and a squash court as well as an indoor swimming pool with a Sauna and changing room all kept clean and well maintained. The Staff were incredibly understanding and helpful when I had a noise issue with the room I was staying in. Both rooms I stayed in were very comfortable and clean. I found my time at the Cumberland hotel was a very enjoyable and comfortable experience. I would definitely consider staying here again
