A bit of a find .... hadn't realised this museum was there. Great place (when you eventually find it) ... and watch out for the exceptionally muddy & slippy approach roads whilst the inconsiderate housing developer constructs a new estate (but can't be bothered ensuring safe access is maintained ... on 2 wheels it was dangerous on 13/11/21. The museum has a complete Vulcan bomber outside and a number of cockpits from other iconic airplanes built by Avro over the years with opportunities to book timed cockpit visits in small numbers. Really modern museum with many small exhibits & displays detailing the history of the site and Avro. We didn't have time to partake of the upstairs cafe which looked good ... maybe another day. There's a small shop on site too. Depending on volunteers, the museum is only open at the weekends at present (lost a star there from me), but otherwise a very informative museum.

A superb little museum packed with loads of interest. I did the Lancaster and Vulcan cockpit tours, as well as the VR Lancaster bombing run. Clean and tidy, well laid out and exceptionally helpful staff and volunteers... well worth a visit!

Great place to visit with very knowledgeable volunteers. The cockpit tours are a real eye opener. If you wish to do all 4 cockpit tours like I did, expect to be there minimum of 3 hours approx. Car park is very sizeable too.

An excellent museum. Small but still loads of things to see. Very much enjoyed our visit. Lost one star because the café had no vegan sandwiches/cake/milk.

What a fantastic day I had at the Avro Heritage Museum. Home of the Lancaster bomber and my favourite the, Vulcan jet bomber. Awesome plane! Had a very good tour of the Vulcan cockpit 5 man crew, all the instruments still look functional and old school. The wealth of experience of the volunteers. Some of the volunteers had been Vulcan crew members. The museum has a lot to offer about the aircraft factory that was on this site and manufactured the Lancaster and the Vulcan. So much innovation went on here. You could spend at least a week looking at all the information on display. The Museum building was once the old fire station for the airfield. Restaurants on the first floor where you can have hot drinks and hot food to eat, and a good view of the Vulcan. The volunteers who serve are so nice and helpful and happy to share their knowledge about the site. I went home with so much knowledge crammed into my head that it was leaking, and I want to come back to fill it with more information about this wonderful site. And see the Vulcan and sit inside the cockpit,😁😁😁😁😁 just awesome!

Great couple of hours to spend inside on a chilly or rainy day. Staff can you flight simulator experience which is worth it if you’ve haven’t done it before. Location of this museum is a bit tricky and SATNAV can take you round in circles due to on going building works. If you’re anywhere the REDROW building site estate, you’re nearby. Don’t panic. Follow little signs for museums if you spot them.

In the words of a 4 year old it was very good, loved getting inside the cockpits the 2 favourites being the Lancaster and the vulcan, the other 2 being outside and not the best weather understandably closed, very informative for myself and showing my son the controls of the vulcan up close and what they do, kept him entertained, all volunteers deserve a great thank you for a great Sunday afternoon outing. Thanks and we'll be back and I hope it's to view the rest :)

05/09/2021 Wow what can I say sat nav had a mind of it's own & kept us going around in circles but we got there in the end Not surprised sat nav couldn't find it as theres newly built houses near by & there still building near the museum so Google maps not up to date yet Google get your head together & keep up to date with the surounders near by But on that note what a great Museum to visit Just hope the new houses being built around it bring in new customers Booking in advance is best before going as theres 4 aircrafts to go in Most staff are volunteers I think if I heard them say but dont quote me on that Air crafts to go in are not disabled friendly Car park free & disabled friendly The Museum is Disabled Friendly There are a few wheel chairs at the main entrance if anyone needs one We spent over 2 hours there & still need to go again to go inside the other 2 aircrafts Please show your support & try & visit it as if you dont use it You lose it In my eyes 😘

Great place to visit. I attended when the military vehicle and car show was on. Great to access the museum too. Good for kids and adults. The entrance is via the new estate so might not show properly on the sat nav. Well worth a visit

went here with family and thoroughly enjoyed it! would recommend to anyone who loves planes or people who want to learn about them/their children are interested in planes. Was very nice and even had a little side room where you could chill and just sit for a little quiet, the reason i took 1 star off is because the cafe was quite small and only had a little selection of food

This is a lovely little museum. With lots of interesting displays charting the history of flight and is arranged in date order. We also did a cockpit tour which was an amazing extra embellishment to our visit. There are four different cockpit options depending on your period of interest. For all aircraft fans a wonderful day out.

What a great place to visit, for adults and children alike. Set in the redeveloped old fire station of the airfield, the visitor centre is modern and well set out. It's wonderful to be greeted by the massive historic Vulcan bomber outside the building. Entry for children (under 11s I think) is free. You can pay (£2 per person) to go inside the cockpit of a Lancaster bomber, VC10 or Vulcan (the cockpit for the Vulcan is a separate construction within the visitor centre, you don't get to go on the actual aircraft). There are also flight simulators to try and other interactive elements. You can go outside and get up close to the Vulcan which is very impressive. Parking is free and there is a cafe on site

Great place to go especially if you or the children like aircraft...staff are really knowledgeable and helpful. The Avro is hone to the White Vulcon. There's a cafe upstairs which is very reasonably priced. There is a gift shop, most of the prints and photos are quite expensive, and some things are In the 'cheaper' bracket....got a fridge magnet..as you do!...for £4.50. There's also the opportunity to land a plane and find enemy submarines to destroy..grandson loved these! Google maps for this place really needs updating as it sent us all round the houses through East Disbury via the tram, when I could've got the bus from Piccadilly (manchester) instead. There's a new housing estate being built at the moment so it's a very long walk once off the bus!! so yes we literally walked all round the houses!!!!

Went for a Wings and Wheels Fair. A huge advantage was that the weather was beautiful, but all credit to the dedicated volunteers, they put on a brilliant day. There is the museum, which is always there, and well worth a look around,as well as the restored Vulcan, but in addition, they had a Spitfire, vintage car display, craft stalls and food outlets, as well as a band and a 'war time 'singer-all of which were great. There were 3 fly bys,one of which was a Lancaster bomber, and loads to keep the children occupied. For a £9 entrance fee,it was well worth it, as we got there at 10 and left at 4.30. Would definitely go again!

This wonderful museum is on the site of the former Woodford Aerodrome. A V Roe established the site in 1924 for the production of his aircraft. It became particularly important during WWII, notably for Lancaster bombers. Unfortunately it closed in 2011 but with the enormous efforts of a dedicated band of enthusiastic volunteers the memories live on. The beautiful Vulcan was also built here and there is a complete original example on display along with a replica 1912 Avro Type F, a 1909 Triplane and a Lancaster cockpit. The history of the site, the planes built there and those who were part of Avro are superbly displayed. I've been several times as its so interesting. A bonus recently was flypasts by three different aircraft, including a Lancaster, and displays of classic vehicles during a Wings and Wheels weekend.

Really interesting trip to the Avro Heritage Museum. The Vulcan and Lancaster cockpit tours were great and well worth the extra few pounds. The volunteers who run it are very knowledgeable and extremely friendly.

I've been to a lot of air museums around the country in the last 2-3 years and I have to say, for interactiveness (is that a word?) this has to fall under one of if not the best. Being able to enter aircraft's cockpits such as the nimrod, vulcan and replica lancaster gives a whole new view on the pilot's experience. Lastly, the staff were knowledgeable and were greatly helpful to us, and were all very friendly in talking to us about the aircraft in the museum

This was a great day out, plenty of aircraft or bits of we just missed the Lancaster fly over but we saw the Avro Anson which did several passes and there was another aircraft but I just missed it so not sure what it was, my dad worked at Avro and when he retired from British aerospace he worked at the museum, and I was an apprentice, dad would have loved to be there again well worth the money, there was also the car show event on R.I.P Dad

Interesting place, quite small only took less than an hour to look around. If your interested in aviation history it's worth a visit. Did check out any of the experiences but worth the money, and it helps to keep it open. Cafe looked nice but I'd only just eaten.

It's a very lovely place, but have to say it's not a day out, as a maximum of fee hours you can spend here, being quite small. Everyone very friendly, and you have a little play area for the kid in the cafe! Absolutely recommended!

The three Stars are based on my experience on the day just for parking and not being able to do all that I wanted. I appreciate it is well run. Unfortunately my fault there was a Car show and a Lancaster fly past on and parking was just silly. My plan was to pop in on the passing from London to Glasgow to see the Vulcan and do a few of the cockpit tours unfortunately it was very busy and tours booked out and I could only visit for max a few hours. The talk by the ex Vulcan pilot was excellent and worth the admission price alone. Disappointing not getting to sit in the cockpits maybe next time on the passing. But a heads up to the parking attendants it’s not about getting maximum income by making people park inches between cars, you realise some of us don’t want our cars damaged with dings so won’t park 12 inches between doors as this one guy seemed to think was acceptable. I was going to just say listen cap numbers if you don’t have the space and I’ll just leave if you want to give me my money back. But myself and the other owner of the Car next agreed to keep a sensible gap between and partly ignored the staff member. Nice to see the Vulcan but to anyone maybe watch out for event days as to me just too busy. Well played to the guy who had his Spitfire on show even when it’s more a static non flying display it had original parts and was able to get up close to the cockpit an added bonus.

Tricky to get to museum, but once you are there it’s rather good albeit small. Good fun as you can access Avro Lancaster & Vulcan cockpits for a small extra charge of £2 pp. You can’t sit in the pilots seat of the Lanc though. Had a go of the VR Berlin Blitz experience which was good. Also had a flight simulator there which went down well!

If you are into your aircraft, especially the Avro collection then this is a must visit and see the real things from real cockpit tours, models and even Churchill's chair, it's well worth a visit. If you don't have a tour of a cockpit it's not very long, so I would say 1-1.1/2 max. Great place full of history ran by some amazing volunteers. The ones we spoke to including a young chap who was very knowledgeable and I think one of the best along to Mike and Peter who gave the Nimrod tour were all fantastic. Without sounding rude though it will, so I apologise, a lady called Joyce was an annoyance and hindrance more than helpful as it felt she was trying to run the show but badly and it showed on the faces of other visitors and some volunteers on how she came across in not understanding and wothbwhat should of been simple made a situation that never had to be made and how she spoke to the other volunteers and barking orders was a little of putting. It did seem to be a tad disorganised with people not knowing where they should be etc but I don't think Joyce helped in those situations sadly. Overall its an experience you have to do if you are a lover of the Avro, despite Joyce interfering and confusing matters the whole team were superb and should all be applauded. Great to visit and I will be back.

Very very impressed. Whilst some museums are well presented and interesting, the staff/volunteers at Avri set it apart for us. Their knowledge is from personal experience and absolutely fascinating. I recommend a visit and also to buy the extra tickets for the Vulcan cockpit and Typhoon simulator. You will not be disappointed if you like planes or the cold War era history. Very best of British.
