Heard alot of good reviews about this place. It didn't live up to the expectation. I was looking forward to the starters but they weren't doing it for me. Food tasted bland the glasses were dirty. The mains were cold and the popadums were pretty much the only good thing. Didn't have the pickle tray, so we had to get mango chutney which was satisfactory/ okay. Not worth the hype.

Disappointing would be an understatement. Let me outline my reasoning below: The atmosphere seems like any other restaurant until you begin speaking to the waiter upstairs. I thought that it was strange that she was wearing two facemasks whilst the other waiters were wearing none and they were not socially distancing, and there was no hand sanitiser available. COVID guidance was not being properly followed. I would have thought that they would have evenly distributed the masks but this didn't seem the case. The female waiter with glasses on the upstairs section seemed very confused – whilst she took our order, she brought a second waiter (who was equally as confused) to take our order. I felt physical stress trying to explain that I would like just one additional naan and not a roti, or that I just wanted three poppadoms. As we began eating our poppadoms, our starters arrived. We had ordered shaami kebabs but were given chaapli kebabs. According to Google and various aunties that I have consulted on this very important matter, a shaami kebab is defined as being made with lentils and a chaapli kebab is made from ground beef or meat. (Images of our kebabs are attached to this review, what do you think they were?) The waiter and head chef were adamant that the meaty, fried kebabs we had been given were made of lentils. Once my Mum had raised this with them, they explained that everyone has "different styles of cooking", that my Mum was wrong, and that the kebab was made of lentils. My family were annoyed by the tone of voice that the waiter had used with them. It confused us how a kebab supposedly made of lentils could have been fried without disintegrating quicker than our enthusiasm for this meal out. We left it and moved on. After we had finished our very profitable starters for their business, we moved onto our mains. We had ordered a chicken karahi and a lamb karahi. The chicken karahi was a strange one – the temperature of the chicken was cold but the karahi was lukewarm which we weren't pleased with. If it was me, they should have warmed the chicken up for longer, however this didn't seem the case. Additionally, the lamb karahi wasn't actually lamb, it was a mixture of two meats (but definitely not lamb). The other thing that hit us was the spice. I believed that my spice tolerance was very high, but it was unbelievably hot for us to eat. I did wonder whether the chef added extra spice to compensate for the cold chicken, but I think this would have been unlikely. It was so unbearable that we asked to pack the food up and we asked for the bill straight away. My Mum tried to raise concerns politely with the manager upstairs, but she was told that she can't cook, that everyone has different recipes, and that she was wrong. It isn't all about debating the technical aspects of a kebab, it's about showing a level of respect to a customer when they want to discuss the meal. If you want customers to come back, you need to listen to what they have to say and empathise with them. Overall, the food was overpriced, overspiced and overestimated. Shimlas has lost its touch of elegance. COVID guidelines weren't being followed which is a risk to the visitors and local community. There's plenty more places to go to in Bradford or the surrounding areas so I would HIGHLY recommend that you scroll through Google to find somewhere else, but we were very disappointed on our visit here and won't be coming back again.

Review based on takeout and home delivery. I love Shimlas for one reason and have highly recommended it as having the best lamb chops in the country to all my foodie friends and family. Unfortunately due to the pandemic I've had to order at home a lot and it's never been worth even 3/5. Food is often cold which is somewhat expected but what I don't expect is to have missing items or ignored instructions. Twice I've had a missing lamb chop, which to their credit was once replaced by a full portion the next time I went to collect (but only after I complained and stated what any good business would have done after the first error). On this occasion I was craving a late night portion of chops which set me back almost £10 delivered. I'm fine with the cost due to delivery. I've attached a photo of the chops. It's not an isolated incident either. It feels like every delivery order is treated with less care than eating in. The chops were dryer than the Sahara and equally burnt too. The quality has taken a skydive which is disappointing because I truely loved their chops and some other choice dishes. Maybe it'll be different when I eat in again but for now I won't be ordering takeout or delivery anymore. It'd be a 0 star but they get 2 for the speedy delivery which was mostly down to the Uber driver if we're being honest.

Fish starter was one of the best I've ever had. Food takes a little while to come out but atleast you know its being freshly made to order, very reasonable portions for the prices aswell

Good food, served at speed. Many staff, wasn’t left waiting at any point. The chapatti could have been a bit softer, and barely any salad given on plate. But I got half a cucumber 🥒 slice so can’t complain!

Always a delicious experience at shimlas; an iconic apna food landmark of Bradford. Specialising in kebabs, doners and a variety of grilled meats for as long as I can remember, over the years they have refined their trademark sauces and naans which are known far and wide the breadth of the country. Chicken doners and kebabs are the staple here so if you go don't forget to order them!

I attended Shimlas on the Wednesday 23/03/22 arrived around 17:25 we are from the Greater Manchester Area took us around 53 minutes luckily we managed to find parking just up the road (I guess when it's busy parking can be a pain). One of the main reason I choose this establishment over others such Anams/Mumtaz due to the google reviews. We ordered: Chicken Pakora Seekh Kebabs (Lamb) Chicken Jalfrezi 2 x Garlic Naan 2 x Chips Salad Mango Paradise (Mocktail) Was told that we were unable to get the Mango Paradise due to use ordering before 6pm (not an detailed reason but I didn't want to get into debate over it). The tables are slightly too close to others so privacy can be an issue for some (but I guess they want to maximise dining it so not a big issue). They have a few staff also and they are very nice and helpful and they clean toilet facilities. Bill came around £30.70 for 2 people so not mega expensive. Now the food Alhamdulilah to food was amazing my Mrs loved it (she is a very picky eater), I honesty can't saying anything bad about the food, everything was on point. One thing I did note is that lady who across us did complain about her food being late and other people getting food before them even though they arrived after them (I guess this could be due to some food taking longer to cook). I would recommend visiting this establishment to my family and friends.

Had their takeaway a couple of times and they had been good so decided to take the family out and dine in. NEVER AGAIN! First of all as I went with my family I asked the waiter if we could be seated upstairs, he said no there is no more room left upstairs, which I found odd as it was a Tuesday. So after being seated downstairs i went upstairs my self and saw it to be half empty and the waiter upstairs seated us! The food was not good. Felt like it has been re heated. Their special Karaahi just tastes of spice and nothing else. It was served in a bowl that I would find at my mums house. I wasn’t sure on what kind of vibe shimlas was going for.

Brilliant food, great flavour full of flavour and hot. Lovely waiter called Waqas told excellent care of our table, replenished with water and always asked if everything was alright. Ordered a mix of starters, the massal fish was lovely, nicely battered with a spicy coating and crispy coat, the seek kebabs were freshly grilled. The curries were well cooked, we ordered the kharais, a more dry dish, flavour was awesome. The chapatis were soft and of a good Yorkshire size. Will go again as have been impressed with food and service. The atmosphere was OK.

A wait of 70mins and got very limited food. It tasted good, a little hot for our taste. Seekh kabab was not good at all. The order was mixed up and we didn't have patience to wait more All in all I will never go back again

Very poor and overpriced. Ordered chicken nuggets with chips What looked like chicken popcorn for £4.50 the portion was tiny. The curries were also very small in portion for the price. When dining in I've noticed shimlas fill up the plate with salad and sauce and give less of the actual food. Rip off.

I hear the bradford Shimlas was really good. I like the way they have set up in line with covid-19 but unfortunately I was really disappointed with their portion size very small and high in price.

Food was pretty decent and the portions were good size too... Chicken wings used to be very tasty and juicy before but I think most of the food was prepared in advance as the service was quite quick.... We were told to wait 45 minutes but the food arrived within 15 minutes... Overall it was a good experience would definitely come back....

I orderedone famous chicken donner and one mixed chicken tikka donner. The food was not a chicken dinner or a chicken tikka dinner like I was expecting, it was just huge chunks of bland diced chicken. I was so dissatisfied, I trusted to look when I went home as I have ordered this before however they have clearly gone down hill, not up to standards at all, poor quality. Never visiting again you may as well close shop. What a waste of money and food! 👎🏾

Exceptional service. So quick, high quality and very intuitive staff that looked out for our needs. We had our 5 month old and they were extremely accomodating in trying to make us comfortable, when we trying different things. So grateful this place is open untill 3 am. We were travelling and it took us a while to get everything together and eventually get out Had a really satisfying cheesy stir fry donner and dynamite prawns Lovely halal peace. Highly recommend

Wow pretty surprised to read about the mixed reviews here.. As a london lad been here a few times... Recently as last week. Called them up as we were collecting.. had no drama lady was polite and efficient. Standard waiting times so all good. Food was banging really enjoyed it. We had a lamb biryani, lamb curry, mixed doner , and garlic nan. The biryani and lamb curry was lovely... good portions, well cooked plus the pieces were bone less which was nice. Really enjoyed both dishes alot will deffo come back here In'sha Allah. Mixed doner was ok... have had better here down south. But on the whole yet again another positive experience.

I used to visit this place regularly between 1995-1999, back then the food was much better. Now it’s ok. The last few times I’ve been the lamb meat has been too chewy/ too fatty and not the best tasting, same goes for the chicken donner. . Mango lassi is still nice tho. Nice clean place with lots of seating. I feel though the service has gone downhill over the years. But given this a 4 star based on its former glory.

  • 1/5 FH M. 4 months ago on Google
Used to be a nice venue but gone downhill .The place is dirty including the toilets and decor all look very tired. Paint peeling of the walls and janitorial items just left blocking the fire exit & for customers to see the dirty mop water near toilets. As a restaurant, they should be taking health and safety a priority and placing these away from customers view. Not professional at all. Put me off coming again.

Food and atmosphere is always spot on. Service, like always, distinctly average. If the manager is not there physically standing over them, most of the workers just stand around.

Came here on a Sunday afternoon. The place was busy and with good reason. Their was a great selection of dishes and what we ordered was ace, portions were generous too. Parshotam served us and he was an excellent host and gave us a box to take our extras home. 10/10 will be returning again.

  • 1/5 Wajaad K. 3 years ago on Google
Waiting time on the phone to place an order was 12 minutes. It’s all good and well trying to be professional having an automated telephone system to place orders but it’s pointless if you make people wait so long to place it! Not the first time it’s happened either. Good food rubbish service over the phone and inside.

We loved the food we had however a bit frustrating having to ask for cutlery, then for napkins and our drinks multiple times before they were recieved. Maybe they were just overwhelmed by the eat out to help out response as the food that we recieved was delicious. Although do not order the pickle tray as they don't actually have one it is just sauces.

I have been to shimlas after a very long time was not good as we had to wait for a very long time just for one chicken dinner it was not worth the wait the nan was very small and burnt and the chicken donner seemed off. It also had a wierd taste their was not a lot of salad and the sauces were not good .would not go again.

  • 5/5 Melissa O. 3 years ago on Google
took the family for a bite to eat and we had a variety of items ordered. the food arrived as ordered and it all appeared freshly prepared and well presented, only loses one star as one meal did not arrive with the others and there was a long wait for the person involved before their meal arrived and by that time we had nearly finished our meals. would use again however as this was seen as an unusual thing rather than something that happens regularly. staff were helpful although rushed off their feet.

  • 5/5 Vignesh G. 3 years ago on Google
Just go here for the donner. You will not be disappointed. Went there during the Covid times should say I was taken aback seeing the security measures they have in place. Thermal camera displaying temperature, an app to collect the contact details of people eating in and again an app to order food. Well maintained nd they were friendly enough to help me when the app did not work on my mobile by sharing their iPad.

Do not waste your time or money. I placed an order for the first time through Uber Eats at Shimla's Bradford. An hour later the app showed the order was delivered, I called Shimlas and was 17 in line, 30 minutes later I decided to drive down instead as I had already paid (over £40). The restaurant said the order has been taken from here and they can't do anything now, I will have to take it up with Uber Eats. Shimla's refused to take any responsibility and refused to give the food or my money. I had been fasting all day and had to go through all this drama. The only thing Shimla offered was I would need to place another order, Pay Again and wait an hour. What a disappointment and waste. I then went else were who made my order in 20 minutes and lost my money with Shimlas. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY HERE, THE SERVICE IS DISGUSTING.

I wish there was an option for Zero as i wouldnt even give this place a one star. I went there today from Sheffield and to be honest the food was poor as they gave us cold food and the chicken donner was very poorly cooked and the naan was cold. The highlight of the night was i found a hair on my Naan which made me want to throw up absolutely disgusting. I called the waiter who did replace it, we carried on eating and in the end i asked for discount and they wouldnt even give us that as a good will gesture. Poor Service and Poor hgyegine. Avoid at all cost!!

The food is amazing! I’ve tried many kebab restaurants previously and its safe to say that no where competes with Shimlas. The main issue I had with other restaurants was the naan splitting leaving it very hard to eat. Honestly, 100% go and try it for yourself - so tasty! If I had one concern it would be that its fairly pricey but I have no problem paying it when it’s so delicious!

The food was OK. Not amazing. Also, when I came with my mum we were just left and told to order over the barcode app, not everything was on the app menu and the options for your meal were different from the actual menu, which just made the whole experience awkward and frustrating. Also, a family came after us and ordered quite a bit of food and there's had arrived way before my poppadoms did! Yet I've had to wait over 40mins for my food. How does that make sense?! The music is too Loud and makes it hard to talk to eachother, weather its talking to the waiter or to eachother on the table you have to speak in a louder voice to even be heard.

An overwhelmingly disappointing experience. Had to wait 30 plus minutes in the cue which is understandable given the current pandemic. However, almost an hour to receive a shawarma and biryani both items which should take no longer than 10 minutes to arrive is beyond ridiculous. Oh and for all you android users, good luck with reading the digital menu past the starters section, their app is only compatible with iOS. Smh. Never again.
