Insane views! These are from the overlook 500 steps away from the actual kings "chair". The blue trail to kings chair is by far the hardest! Red to either red-blue connector is significantly easier. The best way to go (IMO, and if you have all day) is the yellow, to the yellow-red, take the red down to red-blue south, and then blue to kings chair!

The final destination of a moderate hike with multiple elevation changes. Was a perfect end to a Saturday morning hike. The King's Chair offers a peaceful overlook that was hard to leave. Overall, a 2.5 hour, round-trip hike at the most casual of paces.

This is one of the best views in Birmingham. But the trail is not well marked. Park at the North Trailhead and take the Blue trail, which goes uphill. It will not mention King's Chair unless you look at the map. Stay on the main blue trail. Until finally you see the King's Trail marker, as in the photo. Worth it. #hikeon #hikealabama

Absolutely beautiful vantage point at Oak Mountain. I rarely get up for sunrises, but I'm more than glad I made the decision to. Highly recommend hiking up here upon your next visit.

Definitely the best view in the park. Have hiked this many times during all types of weather. It’s really not that hard unless you’re out of shape. I even jog it sometimes if I’m in the mood. Regardless of what shape you’re in, it’s worth it every time! Check out the mountain bike trails while you’re here too, they’re the best in the state. Have ridden all of them countless times.

It took us about 3 hours. We brought a good lunch and ate at the top. We went on a Saturday in early November. It was really, really, really crowded. When I go on hikes or get into nature, I'm looking to be with nature, not crowds of people coming and going and not yielding correctly. The views were beautiful at the top. Lots of Fall colors. The weather was perfect, too. $5/per person entry. So $30 for a three hour hike. I'm glad we did it, but probably won't do it again. Funny moment, the entrance to the trail is behind the map sign. The Red and White trails are clearly to the right, but we couldn't find the blue trail! It took us 5 minutes to figure out that we had to walk around the map guide to see the entrance to the trail.

One of my favorite places in Oak Mountain. Quiet at times but a lot of people hike to this area for the views which are awesome 😁

This overlook is so beautiful and absolutely worth the hike! It hard to believe this gem of an overlook is in little ol' Pelham, AL! The hike is pretty steep in the beginning, but levels out as long as you don't add the Eagle's nest overlook route to your hike. You should park at the parking lot across from the North Trailhead, and then take the blue route trail. Make sure to take a picture of the trail map at the beginning and pay attention to the helpful numerical markers along the trail so you can identify where you are. The only sign for "kings chair" isn't until you're less .5 miles from the overlook and there are no more intersections to navigate by that point, so the map is necessary! It costs $5 per person to get into Oak Mountain State Park for the day and the ticket they give you serves as a day pass to allow you to leave and return during the day. I suggest you pack a lunch and a few drinks and hit the lake after your hike to make the most of the trip!

Good hike. Some fall colors the 4th weekend of October. Hike from North Trailhead on blue trail. Rocky and slightly rooty. View from Kings Chair was nice and clear. Toilets and trailhead.

👍👍 I’ve lived in Pelham for two years and am very close to the park but had never been so one Saturday afternoon I decided to go for a walk. I was surprised at how much they have to offer very nice so I will definitely be back. You need to check it out. Lots of things for kids too.
