We waited 1.5 hrs for food despite being one of only 3 parties there. I paid almost $80 for a couple of tiny Moreton Bay bugs that were the size of slightly large prawns. The sauce they were drowned in was cloying and over sweet, and the lack of substance in the meal was overwhelming. If this is what it's like, do not recommend.

A bit of a mixed experience. We did a trifecta and ordered the Moreton Bay bugs, the crayfish and the mud crab. Oh, also started with some oysters. All seafood meat itself was delicious and well cooked. There was too much saucy butter on the crayfish. Would have been nicer with butter on the side. The Singapore chili sauce tastes like sweet and sour chili sauce, so avoid. The mud crab was meant to be 1.6kgs, but there were at least one of the claws missing. Prices are on the higher side too for what you get. All in all OK experience, but with some issues.

Exceptionally elegant, the staff are all trained very professionally and strive to meet all customer requirements; pulling out chairs for people and regularly checking on drinks, etc. The food is beautifully presented and usually in generous portions, very fresh smelling and tasting seafood, cooked nearly perfectly. Prices I’d say in some aspects are steep, though quite worth while. Overall will definitely revisit again and again. THANK YOU GAMBARO!

The food is ok but the restaurant itself is filthy, dirty, and sticky from years of dirt and grime stuck to everything. It’s a health hazard and makes you wonder what the hygiene standards are in the kitchen. Look at my picture of the trays. Absolutely disgusting. Everything is dirty and sticky. Yuck. Definitely wash your hands after leaving the restaurant to make sure you don’t catch anything.

Last night we dined from the Gambaro2Go menu and it was delicious. We also added a bottle of wine to the order, which was very reasonably priced. A huge shout-out to John Gambaro and the team for this fantastic initiative. Dining in is the new dining out!

It’s my pleasure to be writing a review for Gambaro’s. My partner and I have visited this restaurant numerous times and each time we discover a new exquisite menu item and enjoy trying different seafood options as that’s our niche, we both love seafood and have travelled North QLD to South QLD and dined at many restaurant and this establishment is very much competitive in its service, atmosphere and welcoming staff. The attention to detail in the condiments and palatable combination the seafood is made with as much as the uniqueness of the atmosphere makes the whole experience at Gambaro’s a worthwhile and desirable destination.

Highly recommend this restaurant. Beautiful fresh seafood & high class service. I had my menu signed by the chef & Matre'D who said I made her feel like a rockstar. Parking is available underneath only for customers.

Food and service are both great. We came all the way to try truffle menu. Nothing to complaint but it’s just overpriced for truffles.

tl;dr: Excellent seafood & great service, but some might find it a bit pricey The food menu was small-ish (this isn't a bad thing!) and obviously concentrated on seafood, with very limited choices for non meat and seafood eaters. We all had the seafood, so can't comment on how well those non-meat and -seafood dishes were, but I'd assume that they would've been handled with equal expertise. Highlight of the meal was the crayfish; the live seafood was incredibly expensive (>$200 for one), but the prev frozen ones were of a more reasonable price. The seafood platter was also another well executed dish. Mum enjoyed her birthday dinner immensely, and as someone who hasn't spent the day with her mother for over 10 years, this made me very happy also. My only quibble were that in this day and age of pandemic, and with hospitality having numerous issues with staffing because of the need to isolate or because they're sick, correct mask wearing should be enforced.

Very average experience. The service felt rushed and sloppy. The wait staff are exceptionally poor communicators. Patrons are crammed into a quarter of the available dining area creating an incredibly loud rabble leaving it impossible to hear my partner speak. The seafood was just okay but fairly priced. I felt most welcome when I was leaving.

We shared the hot and cold seafood platter for my birthday. It was absolutely fantastic. The prawns were huge and fresh..The crab and bug were amazing as were the fish and oysters. Would definitely recommend for a special occasion

Not nice seafood place to eat should go to Paragon if you want to eat seafood. The issue here is that waiter not care about customer dining in, hard to eye contact and ask for getting water. . Should teach them how to be a good customer service. And even take a payment without saying thank you, not recommended, not good for anniversary dinner at all, and not congratulate us on our anniversary day. Not friendly staff and rude manner.

We had a brilliant time! The service was impeccable, we booked the 5.30 time slot, & were not disappointed! We were lucky to be sat away from most people, which was nice & quiet. The food was so incredibly fresh & full of flavour, the cold seafood platter was the perfect amount for us, we ordered some chips on the side as well. Dessert finished off the meal so well! The gentleman who was serving us, suggested the orange Broulee & it was 100% worth it. Great place for an anniversary or date night!

Had an awesome early Father’s Day dinner. Service was amazing and we felt well taken care of. It’s hard to find Lobster Thermidor in Brisbane and dad said they did it really well. Fish we had was delicious too. They were happy to cater for me as I can’t have dairy or egg. Some car parks underneath which helped us a lot too. Thank you team!

Food was good but the waiting time for food to come out was just unreal. We had to wait for two hours. The waitress did not say a thing then there was a very brief apology saying it was a miscommunication in the kitchen after one hour of waiting. I was a bit disappointed with the service here to be honest.

Never again...Here is some honest review of Gambaro.Attitude with the waitress and zero personality.warm beer.not enough butter for the rolls.25% overpriced.and check this out.I ordered a 75 dollar lobster thermidor.turns out it was a FROZEN Californian lobster not even Australian and this is meant to be Award winning Seafood restaurant. And to cap it off when mentioned to the waitress that the lobster was not fresh, her response provoked my response,....well we sell many and yes we do have live lobsters but they more expensive...listen pre coved I am sure they were better but not now and understaffed presently.I did expect the owner to at least acknowledge me but nothing.I been to a few restaurants and normally Italian family ones are brilliant, not here.Ok that’s the negative hears the positive.the water was chilled, the oysters at $5 each were good, the Greek not Italian salad was good. Here are the 3 questions.did I enjoy overall.no Would I go back.no.Would I recommend.no.....one more thing the menu on the net is nothing like the one in the restaurant. And this in my opinion only, you make your mind but don’t forget your credit card.

Fantastic service, incredibly fresh seafood and a great atmosphere. The only reason I dropped a star is just the lack of variety, gambaros claims Brisbane's best seafood restaurant and if we're basing this on the standard prawns and bugs than sure... However that's it, besides a salmon and oysters there's just so much missing, I suspect they don't want to risk the wastage... Which is fair but I feel if they really want the claim of best seafood in brisbane they should at least have a half dozen types of fish to choose from.

  • 3/5 A B. 3 years ago on Google
We had dinner with our family. We left feeling Gambaros is trading on reputation and no longer represents the high standard of hospitality or care they were known for previously. I don't think it is acceptable to have wait staff arrive at the table and call out the meal they have in their hands. They should know who ordered what dish. Wait staff should not reach across guests but rather go around behind diners to reach the next person. It was not busy. Coffee was delivered and finished before the arrival of dessert. I'm not even going to get too deep into the pricing, the lack of sides, parking hassle etc.Whilst Gambaro's is a Brisbane institution, there are many better restaurants with better food and service elsewhere.

It is an absolutely beautiful and very classy Restaurant. You dine in soft lighting and candlelight. The room divisions are separated by beautiful see through curtains that add to the very romantic feel to this amazing restaurant. The staff are so friendly and professional and very knowledgeable with their food suggestions. I had the Crayfish Mornay and my partner had the Crayfish in Garlic butter. It was the best I've ever had. So fresh and so tasty. We will definitely visit there once everytime we visit Brisbane. It is a bit pricey but worth it. Also they have their own parking that goes down, located to the left side of the restaurant.

Not sure where the awards come from but for $100 a head it was very ordinary. Slow forgetful service and scabby ordinary food. Go somewhere else

After driving an hour into the city and our reservations fell through at another restaurant we nearly went home feeling hungry and frustrated but then we called Gambaros and Ash the manager on was so understanding and fortunately she had some space for us to dine. Even while we waited for an opening for a short time we were able to sit and relax in the bar area which was warm and welcoming. Our entire night turned around at the kindness and flexibility of Ash and her staff at Gambaros. The food was amazing, and our waiter Meg was very gracious and prompt. It seemed other patron's were also thoroughly enjoying their experience. Gambaros has always been one of our favourite restaurants but after lastnights impeccable service and food its now on the top of our list.

We ended up here Saturday night around 7:30pm, you could have fired a shotgun down Caxton Street and not hit anyone, it was surreal to see. We ordered takeaway for 4 people (the only option really), 4 pieces of battered cod and two serves of chips were quickly served. The servings were enormous and the fish and chips were delicious as was the sauce provided. The staff were very friendly and seemed quite cheerie considering the lack of patronage. We will definitely be back to dine in once the restrictions are lifted.

Great Indian Buffet for just $8.50 each. Don't get confused and think buffet means you help yourself, because you don't. The food is served onto a plate and then you take it to your table. We had the smaller of the meal options and it was plenty. The curry wasn't too spicy, but very flavoursome.

Bland and deplorable food, avoid like the plague if you prefer quality Indian food with spices, aroma and that delicious flavour that we associate curries with. It is as if someone has put together very basic Indian food with no taste and the owners must think that customers are fools that have no idea what good authentic Indian food is all about! In India this kind of trash food would be thrown away! The dhal, dessert, fried rice, potatoes and spinach curry were all appalling! The only thing that was half decent were the Koftas with red chutney. I saw that the owner was not polite when someone came for seconds even though it's all you can eat, but who would want seconds with that awful tasting food! Waste of my time and money for $13.90!

The food temperature in the bainemarie was hot and safe food levels, food handling practices that I noticed while there are very high standard. Restaurant is tidy, small, busy and a little warm in summer. Great level of conversation, everyone seems happy when they eat here. The food is divine. No meat, no garlic, no onion. Very very tasty, and very good karma. Great value. I could eat here every day.

Not to mention the orange brûlée and chocolate hemisphere desserts which were perfectly balanced and not too sweet. The service was incredible, the staff were very welcoming and attentive to your needs. A special thank you to our waitstaff, Layla, who accommodated for our halal dietary needs really well, and briefed us as to what we were able to eat. Whilst there are tranquil views of the smoking area from your table where you get to stare at nicotine addicts feet all night, this is the most expensive pub meal you'll have in your life. Everything on my plate was frozen thawed and I paid $69 for a $25 bottle of Chandon. The cutlery looks like it is 17 years old and the furniture come from the RSL; this place needs work.

The presentation is great, the drinks were good, but the crab was cold not once but twice. We were in a big group but unfortunately this can happen from time to time. Everything was really nice! I only had a couple of negative things to add like the fresh seafood platter we enjoyed didn't come with lemon or butter, which would of made it absolutely perfect. Staff we friendly but not very well informed in the beverage department. I'd still recommend checking it out.

From the minute we walked in the service was amazing. Our waiter looked after us very well. I didn’t get his name, but he was a Filipino waiter. My daughter went and tipped him $50. Lol as for the food the cold platter was fresh. Hot platter was amazing the lobster linguine and the marinara was absolutely on point. Such great food great atmosphere couldn’t fault the place. It was a little expensive, but very well worth it. Thanks guys my daughters mum enjoyed her birthday. Definitely will be back.

Sensational. Had our office pre- Christmas lunch in December 2023. The staff were experienced and attentive, the host a charm, the dining room a delight, and the food!! Absolutely superb. Catering to vegan and omnivores alike. Thank you for a wonderful celebration.

Enjoyed dinner here had the hot & cold seafood platter. Worth every dollar. Seafood was fresh & full of flavour. The sauces to accompany were beautiful on clams, oysters and thousand island for the prawns. The cooked seafood was done beautifully. Very hard to find a place that doesn’t over cook the seafood & they nailed it. Plenty of seafood to fill 2 people. The service was great, the staff catered to every need. Very friendly and conversed politely. When our glasses were empty they would refill or offer to get us another beverage. They ensured they took our shell bowl when it was full and placed a clean empty one there. They had wet wipes to clean our hands in between. Atmosphere was lovely.

Went there to celebrate my wife's birthday last night. Ordered the hot and cold seafood platter for 2 for main. While the seafood were very fresh, but we didn't feel that special considering the $$$ price charged. The waiter William was friendly and warm, all the other service personnel that came around were very plain, did not feel they care or meant what they said. It's a nice gesture for them to write "Happy Birthday" on the plate with dessert we ordered, but the server was so stingy to even express greetings while serving it. Quite disappointing with the food, atmosphere and services overall, we will not visit there again.

It was my first experience with this restaurant and seafood. I ordered Hot and Cold platter. I can't explain how tasty the food was and i enjoyed the services, atmosphere around it. James is absolutely amazing, his services are too good and Thanks to Matthew. If your going to Brisbane and wanna try Seafood then you can't miss Gambaroo. They have Halal options as well. Sausages are too good and Oysters Crabs, Morton bay bug. As per Quality and Quantity they are best in whole Brisbane.

A mixed review for us on this occasion. My wife and I visited for our Anniversary for dinner as I had always wanted to dine here. Entrees were delicious, but the mains were mixed in results. My wife's main meal was absolutely lovely, mine not so much. Linguini marinara, had flavour but many pieces of fish not even cooked, and a few scales on them as well. Very disappointing considering the price. When I advised the manager he simply said sorry about that sir and took the plate away! Luckily the waitress we had was lovely and my wife's food was really nice so a 4 star from me.

Gambaro Seafood Restaurant is absolutely amazing and accommodating to all different dietaries. The staff are knowledgeable and friendly, always knowing exactly what to recommend. I can not express enough how wonderful the atmosphere is and the food is just divine! A beautiful rotating menu that thinks of everyone.
