So the bartender (Kenzie) here is great. Super friendly and skilled at her job. When we saw she’d be taking care of us we felt confident that we were going to have a great night. The owner (or manager or whoever he was) however, made it clear that was not the case. He never told us his name and i feel that was intentional - We spent an evening there not too long ago and every move we made seemed to irritate him. Rather than tell us what was wrong or ask us to kindly stop whatever we were doing that was bothering him so much he kept coming up to our table, giving us the death stare, passively aggressively rolling his eyes or throwing up his hands in disgust. He even made it seem as though we were inconveniencing him asking for drinks (at the bar) & i think he purposely burnt my grilled cheese out of spite. When I went to close out my tab I watched him angrily rip apart the bar looking for my card, until a regular pointed out where my card was, in plain sight. Right in front of his face. He seems like he’s got a lot going on in his life and I do truly take pity on him. But we were just trying to enjoy ourselves and apparently that isn’t allowed at “South” ... I don’t think I’ll ever go back. There are plenty of dives in the area and the bar/restaurant next door has an actual kitchen & a far better outdoor seating setup anyway!

My favorite bar in the neighborhood. The owners Paul and Dee make sure that everyone feels at home the second they walk in. There are cook offs throughout the year - chili, Mac and cheese... The grilled cheese and PBJ are awesome.

Good, down to earth bar. No tv's makes for good conversation. Patio in the back. Variety of great drafts. Grilled cheese is their main forte, with chips. Add the onion dip and it's solid. Note, since I've been writing this review they have played sublime and the killers. It's that kind of bar.

Very cool atmosphere. Great music on the jukebox. The best Grilled Cheese Sandwich I've ever had. "South Style". Good beer selection and a welcoming staff.

Best bar in the south slope/park slope area. Staff is amazing and they make the BEST homemade vodka from Greece. Gypsy made us a greek quesadilla panini creation and it was out of this world. Rochelle the bartender knows exactly what drinks we like and has it ready the second we walk in! They are truly amazing and have become great friends of ours. Awesome atmosphere and extremely accommodating. My cousin was headlining pride two weeks ago in the area and they were nice enough to have us for the entire night. Highly recommend this place!

What a gem! Prices are great, backyard is amazing, drinks are priced well and the beer list is always changing. Plus there is always at least one cider on tap (thank you!). The grilled cheeses are A+ and we have also ordered pizza and Mexican and received no angry stares. The staff and owners are beyond nice, as are the other patrons. This place is a true neighborhood spot, yet is still cool enough to hang at on a Friday or Saturday night. Oh also there's free popcorn and twizzlers.

Been coming here for 6 years or so. I think it’s the best bar in the neighborhood, and could be the best bar in BK. Why? Unpretentious, cozy, good prices and whether alone or with a group, you’ll meet good people. The owners, Dee and Paul, are sincerely warm and care about their establishment and their patrons. And the grilled cheeses don’t hurt!

Great bar! Michael is the best bartender we’ve ever had - he made sure we always had popcorn, a drink, and even shared some leftover red velvet cake with us. The place is very cozy and you simply feel welcomed once you come inside. A++

Great dive in Park Slope. There's definitely a Texas theme, which we love. I heard of it because Billy Durney used to give away his barbecue here as his was learning how to make it.

Nice outdoor patio with board games. A $5 beer is also nice.

There's a lot to like about South. The good sized back patio (closes at 11), free popcorn (from a bag, not popped in house), a big international beer (bottle) list, a few large wooden booths, a small inexpensive food menu, and a very good selection of board games. Beer prices weren't all that great, a good majority of the bottles were 7-8 (they did get as low as 4-5 on a few though) and the tap selection was very limited as well. I was bummed to see the back patio close so early but I understand the noise and neighbors don't exactly mix that well.
