The most luxurious hotel in Brunei has already a bit run down. This hotel needs an upgrade to sustain its reputation. The only golf course that can be used for international competition also poorly managed. Green terribly stripped, Bermuda grass grown with weed. Bunker mostly not dry. Facilities not available, no half way refreshment. Not so much activities can be done in this so called used to be 7 or 5 stars resort. Cinema a bit more expensive than other cinema with facilities has less varieties. Selling only typical popcorn and expensive can Drinks. No nachos no nothing. Service staff are also abysmal. Food Restaurant is a disappointment with less varieties too. Hi Tea not so great.

Beautiful resort and hotel. The wait time for high tea was quite a bit longer than they suggested so the staff provided a fee extra snacks. All the sweets were great and much better than the desserts at other 6-star hotels I have visited, such as the gold flake chocolate cake in Abu Dhabi.

Deeply disappointing experience. After arriving at the hotel, we were shown to our room: it was filthy. The windows were so dirty someone had drawn patterns in the filth and grime. We found coffee stains on table tops. Interior decoration of the rooms was basic to say the least. I complained and we were shown to another room. Again, pretty basic looking, more coffee stains, clean windows but dirty curtains (looked like either chocolate or blood- see photos). Best thing about our room? The bathroom. It's a good looking bathroom and rather spacious. The food we ordered to the room (or bought in the hotel cafe) was fine. The cakes were of a decent quality though and were one of the few highlights of the hotel. Most of the money appears to have been spent on the communal areas, like the main dining area with the vaulted ceilings. This particular area looked impressive. Other parts of the hotel (exteriors to buildings, and interior bedrooms etc) looked cheap and/or shabby. Staff were friendly but often felt like they were hustling to try and get more money from us (for trips/excursions etc). I struggle to see this hotel as anything close to a 5 star. It's barely pushing a 4 star. For the price, it's shocking. Appallingly bad value for money. I can't recommend it at all and would never stay here again. After Brunei, we travelled to Mulu and stayed at the Marriot. That resort was cheaper but far far superior and is much more deserving of a 5 star hotel/ resort. If you're staying in Brunei, go somewhere else. You'll pay a lot less and get closer to what you pay for. It's just a shame there aren't luxury hotels competing with the Empire. If there were I think people would avoid the Empire (for anything other than the golf etc). Not recommended. Awful.

Very extravagant and over the top in everything. Ambiance, service, decor all live up to the experience of being treated like royalty.

A grand hotel/resort. Bowling, cinema, practically private beaches, amazing swimming pools. The rooms were very clean and well maintained. The air conditioning was not the strongest, though I do prefer it to be freezing cold, so I imagine it'll be alright for most. The mattress is very comfortable, slightly on the firmer side and the pillows were very soft. The bathroom decor was very impressive. The water from the bath was murky the first time I ran it. That said on the 3rd fill it was completely cleared. Good pressure water and plenty of hot water. Free mini bar drinks and food, and the included buffet breakfast was decent. The service was absolutely top notch. Extremely enjoyable experience.

A lot of people come here for the golf, but I love it for its opulence and quietness. It's located on the seafront. It has beautiful grounds, including swimming pools, restaurants and other facilities. The people who work here are unfailingly polite and helpful and the service is truly excellent. Rooms are spacious and well-appointed. There are good sports and exercise facilities, yoga etc. Brunei is not a place you come to for partying. It's quiet and there is no alcohol. It's a place you come to chill and there's no better place to chill than the Empire Golf and Country Club.

Beautiful place to be. Large pools available for everyone. Rooms seem to be in pretty good shape. Rooms with views over the ocean, golf courses, and park. Friendly staff. The gardens around the hotel buildings are very tidy. No alcoholic beverages are available at all.

Amazing and beautiful majestic hotel. Most rooms have stunning views to the ocean. There are large pools where you can enjoy water activities and go for kayaking. Staff are friendly and welcoming.

Over the top beautiful hotel. Definitely worth staying a night or two. The beds are FABULOUS. I gave it 3 stars because of there is no booze available whatsoever. Would be 5 otherwise

Regard as the best hotel in Brunei, staying at this majestic hotel is a must for all. Price wise might be a bit expensive than others but the package given worthed.

Beautiful Property with Disappointing Laundry Service I stayed at this 5-star hotel a few month ago, and I must commend them on their property. The rooms, albeit old, have a relaxing ambiance which made my stay quite pleasant. The architecture and the grounds are genuinely gorgeous and exude tranquility, amplified by its beachside location. The hotel's location is somewhat remote from the city center, making it less convenient for a bustling itinerary. However, if you're looking for a peaceful retreat, it's almost perfect. But there's a caveat. My significant grievance is with their laundry service. I paid over $100, trusting them with my clothing, only to find several garments returned with holes. This was deeply disappointing and entirely unexpected from a hotel that otherwise presents itself with such elegance and class. For a 5-star establishment, every service should reflect that same level of quality, and unfortunately, their laundry service fell far short of this expectation. Future guests might want to consider external laundry options if they value their wardrobe.

Bruneins are some of the most friendly people anywhere. The hotel compound is sprawling and somehow managed to feel empty while packed. Great place to unwind.

💜TAXI: by DART taxi app $15 to travel empire hotel (👎🏾hotel concierge will charge you $40 much higher and crazy price) 💜SUNSET: big swimming pool area for sunset. even you are not staying the hotel you can visit the pool and park area for sunset 💜hotel front desk is friendly and they will recommend you dinner in hotel, also taxi 3km to nearby restaurant 💜clean and spacious room free minibar, big toilet. 👎🏾average standard for vacation compared to thailand or Indonesia, but worth trying in Brunei.

Overall experience was great. Amenities are superb, I like the architectural design both in interior and exterior. The main atrium is one of the best if not the best lobby I have ever seen. Such a grandeur and luxurious experience. Foods are delicious although I wish more choices in breakfast buffet. Staffs are very professional, accomodating, and courteous. Our room is at lagoon area, the rest room is really huge. I hope they will install bidet in the future. The experience is memorable and would definitely go back again one day.

Extremely accurate service from the staff. You can find any activities for the day, the have gyms, swimming pool, pool bar, buffer and restaurant. Rooms are big, very clean and the 24hours service is very efficient. Nice atmosphere, spotted clean.

Really nice and quiet Hotel with very spacious rooms and super comfortable bed. The pool area needs some renovation but it is a really huge pool. The dinner buffet was exceptional great, at breakfast I would have expected better when looking at the price. The service was everywhere truly nice, only concierge service tries to sell you overpriced car shuttle.

If you are here, you don't need to travel around the country. This hotel was a palace of a prince, and you can tell why. BEST hotel I ever been my entire life, and I've been to 5 stars dozens of times. Everything was perfect.

Empire is the best place to come & have a long relaxing vacation. The views all around are stunning. The architecture is sublime. The hotel grounds are huge & there is a buggy which brings you all around the place. I received vouchers upon checkin that allows us to use their paddle boats kayak, bikes for free. There is an indoor bowling alley, pool snooker, gym, and a cinema. The hotel has a chuckload of activities to do when you come with your friends/family. I would like to mention some lovely staff members who made our stay at Empire truly unique & amazing last weekend. Firstly Zack who drives us in the buggy, after just a few buggy rides we were like pals and he told us a lot abt Brunei and the hotel, it was a treat every time we saw Zack. Secondly Lin, who is another buggy driver, the treatment we get in just mere minutes of going on the buggy all around the hotel really made a huge difference in making our stay amazing. And lastly from Breakfast, a lovely lady named Roma, who was smiley the whole time, she waited and served us bfast and i really appreciated her kindness and speedy service. I enjoyed her serving us our meals very much. Thank you Empire Brunei staff. It was a trip i will never ever forget 💕

My husband and I were not sure what to expect post-COVID however the experience was nothing short of amazing. I decided I wanted a getaway for my birthday. It was a smooth booking, check-in and check-out. The staff at the hotel were extremely friendly, polite and well-spoken. What really surprised me was a complimentary voucher for a slice of cake despite not mentioning my birthday to anyone. They brought the voucher to our room - such phenomenal guest experience. For our suite, the room was cooled and had a fully stocked mini fridge. We spent the first day exploring the hotel, the second day at the well maintained pools while participating in their water activities and the third day enjoying all the activities. I personally feel Brunei has some of the best sunsets and this was a great place to watch it. We had the Malay set dinner/breakfast in the Atrium - food was fantastic. Zest was a great spot for snacks and desserts and Pantai for our meal by the pool. I did not leave the premises for the 3 days I was on the property. There is so much to do here. I highly recommend spending 2 nights here to fully experience what this beautiful hotel has to offer!

This hotel is one of the 7 Star Hotel in world . They are serving good hospitality. Swimming pool and golf course is worldderful place to enjoy . They are having two resturant Atrium. & pantai . Both are having a large no of option for global peoples. but I found one difficulty( in Veg options ).

A true monument to excess. Well worth a visit if in Brunei as there isn’t much else to do. The history of this place as a confiscated palace is worth a read and explains why on earth you’d build it in the first place.

Huge hotel complex with cinema /theatre , congress center, spa, buggy transportation to get around, huge rooms in a relaxing area, pool area, phantastic scenery for sunset watching, amazing breakfast and dinner possibilities , little shopping street and excellent service. It couldn't be any better if you are a fan of luxury.

Facilities are good. The staff's response is also good. However, the service provided by the male manager of the buffet restaurant was terrible.

  • 5/5 Andrea T. 6 months ago on Google
Everyone was incredibly helpful and hospitable. The entire property is huge to say the least and could easily warrant half a day just to walk around. No fear if you need a buggy to the rescue, just approach a staff! Rooms aren't the most modern but they are well maintained and have a certain charm. All in all, we'll definitely be back.

Checked in a bit late because too many people checked in same time. But was served by a friendly receptionist. Went for a walk around the hotel compound and areas. Had set dinner with family. Menu were variety of Malay dishes of beef tomato, ginger chicken, sambal prawns and pilal rice. Services were very good -but the amount were small for dinner for three. Went for morning. stroll and biking around the place which was wonderful. Had fantastic breakfast served by wonderful and helpful staff. Thank you. Went for Kayaking after breakfast but time went fast and had to check out at 12:00! Overall wonderful stay although the room was very cold in the evening! Thank you Empire Hotel..!

Private hire DART taxi from Empire to city area costs about B$16. Requesting the hotel to call a public taxi is B$30. Using the hotel taxi is B$40.

Outstanding complex and amazing staff and service. We were delighted with the complex - a most sumptuous hotel but we were also amazed at the wonderful staff in food and beverage, poolside and most especially concierge for all their help and assistance. Wonderful stay, thankyou!

The Empire is incredible. Spent one night here and wish I had stayed longer. All the staff were kind and helpful. Special thanks to Muhammad from concierge who got me onto a Ulu Temberong tour. The room was nice and there are so many things to do at the resort it keeps you busy. I had a game of bowling which was good fun. The pools were very beautiful. Plenty of locations to admire the sunset. Will return for sure, highly recommend.
