Large quiet area with some history. No restrooms. Partially shaded. Trails are marked and get sandy, so be prepared for a workout.

This is a nature preserve with trails. The trails are not paved but I won't complain about that, unlike some other visitors, because this is a nature preserve. I'm glad Buckingham will have this sliver of nature left after all of the new construction has destroyed most of it.

Trail markers are confusingly set up among all the different routes. We only passed one map. There is not much in the way of shade and the terrain of the trails needs serious maintenance. Much of the Yellow trail is beach-like sand which can exhaust you quickly in the Florida sun. You can take a horse on the various trails but not all. if you are only hiking then I cannot recommend taking the equestrian/hiking hybrid and to only stick to the hiking only trails, shade is plentiful and the ground is a easier to traverse. It's not the worst trail but personally I would feel better if I knew which section I was on with clearer directions. There is quite a bit more that they can do with this to make it a more enjoyable experience. I'll be happy to return if there are some improvements made

No Dogs Allowed. Horses are allowed. It apparently doesn’t say on the Lee County Sign but a very small sign on the gate which is almost impossible to see because I didn’t see it either times but the Ranger who was sitting in her truck when I pulled up told me no dogs allowed here. Told her it needs to be on the sign as all other parks show it on the rule sign. The first time I went with my dog there was no one other person at the trail. You go trough the gate that almost looks locked. Large wide grassy trails. Trails were little over grown but wide with some over hang of trails. Park guide maps through out aren’t the greatest but we always use google to map our way around anyways. Seen mama hog and two babies before they ran off. No bathrooms on site

Very well marked trails with signs indicating not only where you are but how far from parking area. Lots of pines and cleared trails, some noise from overhead planes from the Fort Myers regional airport. Horses should have a good time on the trails so marked for horses.

Went to trailhead on Buckingham Road to take a walk with a friend. The grass was very high and wet so we went elsewhere. Is this trail not maintained?

This is a perfect example of off-the-beaten path of Florida experiences. This terrain is called scrub. I love seeing the unique plants and animals. It is a great spot to see gopher tortoises and snakes--especially during spring and early summer. Hiking around this area is a huge plus.

Very nice for playing ball. The reason I go is the dog park. They have two fenced in areas. One for the smaller dogs and the other of the larger one. You also can go on a nice nature walk as well. My dog loves it.

I was raised in Buckingham went through these trails daily as a kid never thought after the army left anyone would be back. Now you jump the old train track and trail close to the old gun range.

Nice and dry through most of the preserve when so many locations locally are very wet. Good trail riding location!

An awesome piece of our brief but significant local WWII history! Walking this peaceful area today, you can find remnants of foundations, pilings, railroads, even firing ranges and bunkers. It's mind boggling to think this was part of a sprawling base with hundreds of aircraft, 500+ structures, and thousands of personnel.

Most of the horses either crib or Pace and they're ok with it. Poor things are trail ridden back to back without a break. Their living conditions are terrible in my opinion I would never go back there.

This place is awesome! Camping by a lake which a bunch of cool people, had mudding, and obstacles for my vehicle! Tons of fun and will definitely be back with my friends this month! Finally, super friendly and helpful staff! Dude in the front gave me a military discount which was the cherry on top for me.

Super fun everyone was kind the staff is great. No food there expect just outside there is a BBQ and I think a taco truck. I suggest bringing swimwear too the lakes are fun to jump in and places for every one to swing from and land in the lake. Lots of space and fun for 4 wheeling and a day with the family. Make sure to bring a tent at least there is no where else to hide from the sun.

I have hiked there numerous times in the past but didn't hike any yesterday. I was hoping to ride my fat tire bike there but wasn't sure if it was allowed or not. The trails are quite sandy and I was wondering if it would work with the fat tires, The signs didn't say anything about bikes but the symbols were just for hiking and horses. The only written information said no motor vehicles but didn't mention bikes specifically. There was only 1 vehicle in the parking lot when I was there. It is where the Buckingham Airfield was during WW2, which was used for anti-aircraft gunnery training for the military.

Took a drive to check this beauty out only to find the gate chained and locked, and it doesn't seem like the area is up to par. Please update your website or Google page and make it known that it's closed or hours vary so others are aware. Thanks.

  • 1/5 Joshua D. 6 years ago on Google
This trail, from a hiker’s perspective, is a snooze. The trails are not clearly marked, so grab one of the 3 water-logged trail maps, if they’re still there. If you put faith in the Green Sign and try to stick to the markers and to the “trail”, best of luck.

This was such a spontaneous and exhilarating experience. My friend and I went to clewiston to try skydiving but the weather forced us to reschedule, we were left wanting to take off something our bucket list and we searched on google for the nearest stable so we decided to go for the first time here today. Our tour guide Brandon and the rest of the staff were AMAZING. They were very caring and knowledgeable. Explained everything in great detail as well as converse with us throughout the whole tour. We will definitely be recommending 5 star stables to our friends and family. Thank you for the great experience!!!

  • 5/5 Leanne Elliott G. 4 years ago on Google
We did a trail ride with Brandon back in April. Loved it. Loved it so much I started taking horsemanship and riding lessons when I got home. I will be down again soon and wanted to know if I can get a lesson while I'm down there?

  • 5/5 James B. 4 years ago on Google
Did a great job with my son, patient and good teacher. Plan on returning for sure. Edit: I have been bringing my son here for the last 9-10months, he is younger and just enjoys seeing the horses and going for his short "training" lessons. They are always great with him, patient and he is now getting old enough to start learning more. The entire staff is friendly and they run a good operation. If you want to go for a trail ride, learn to ride, have your kiddos learn basics or more advanced, literally any of the above they will go above and beyond to make sure you have a good experience! Also their horses, my son has been on 3 of them and they are all extremely well trained and behaved, seem to be even more so when the horses know a little one is on them. Will continue to go there for the foreseeable future!

We brought a family group on a beautiful Saturday and had a wonderful time. Guides Brandon and Choo-Choo were helpful, friendly, and funny. The horses looked very well taken care of, and the whole atmosphere was relaxing, informative, and entertaining. I'm already strategizing how to make visits here a regular thing for us. Thank you for helping us make a great memory!

Fun place to take the family to ride, swim and hang around. The staff that hangs/patrols near the zip line and rope swings does a good job of policing riders speeds for safety which is nice. Between the water, rc track, and spaces for ide it's a great time.

👍👍 Great outdoor walking trail. Sunsets/sunrises photography is great here because of the clear skies + reflections from the often still water. Overall a good place to learn about Lehigh’s ecosystem.
