Stumbled across this museum by total chance. Found a leaflet outside but it wasn’t very descriptive and we didn’t know what was this ‘interactive experience’ about. As we didn’t have many plans for the day we decided to try and see what was it about. So glad we did and such a shame it’s not very well advertised. It was a really interesting exploring the Hungarian daily life during the communism period. You can find artefacts and old school goods that were used in that era as well as decent descriptions on what you’re looking at. Would definitely recommend it. One of the best ‘museums’ in Budapest.

The food was lovely and staff was extremely nice. I find it a little expensive, but I grew up surrounded by most of the items on display here. My favorite parts were the quizzes throughout the exhibition and the vintage news studio with old cameras. Of you are in for a travel through time or if you're from elsewhere, this is a must-visit!

A very well done museum experience. The focus is really on the nostalgia of the era, which brings back memories of the good times people had, even in the midst of a very difficult time in Hungarian history. Plenty of picture opportunities and many interactive elements. I would highly recommend balancing out this experience with a visit to the House of Terror, which focus fully on the negative aspects of this same time period. Both represent a truth that isn’t complete without the other.

This fun and interactive museum is a must for those interested in Communist-era Hungary. It focuses more on the social and pop-cultural elements of that era, whereas most other museums tend to focus on the political aspects.

Really fun interactive museum, so much to look at. Really loved how a lot of things were displayed inside the 'apartment blocks'. Only problem is that some of the areas were narrow and because it was a bit busy we couldnt really move forward. But otherwise great fun!

What a fun museum! We came across it randomly while walking the streets and thought we would visit. There is a lot of so called "Ostalgia", basically soviet memorabilia and gives a good idea of life at the time. Can recommend to anyone interested in the soviet history of Hungary, or just want a fun more interactive museum experience. 5/5

A great look into the past 60 or so years of what Hungary was like. I loved the old spectrums that they must of had a few years after the west upgraded. The living standards just scream cold wr era at you. Hard to imagine the way ppl lived during a very uncertain time. But this place captures it beautifully. Loved looking around at everything, even went on a police chase in a battered old trabbant? Such fun. When in Budapest go, you won't be disappointed.

The museum is a very good experience highly recommend visiting it. Born in mid 80's brought back many memories, but it's also good for bew generation. Beeing an interactive museum gives a better vibe like seeing how the Evening News was presented or a typical living room and kitchen looked back then. A lot communism themes to be found. Some things that were found a lot in the 70s-80s aren't diplayed, maybe in the future will be. Even if we didn't have today's technologies wasn't that bad growing up and experiencing things that now we laught at so much. The closest metro station is Deak Ferenc Ter. Other things to visit in a few minutes walking distance is the Ferris Wheel of Budapest, Szent Isvan Cathedral, Szechenyi Chain Bridge, the Hungarian Parliament Building or Liberty Square.

It is a very good "going down the memory lane" for hungarians, and an amazing experience for people who never got to experience this kind of life. Also Szabina is a super nice waitress with a great attitude and knowledge. I can only recommend this place.

Nice fun! We found it walking on the street accidentaly and we love everything that is connected with comunism so we enter. It's nicely done, with "old communist buildings" like we have in Poland too. Nice part with red star and driving car. Good idea with old tv programme. But the "flat" is poor-so dirty, some strange clothes inside-if you wanted to do like in DDR museum-there is much better in Berlin. Needs to take care more about this.

An immersive time travel back to the 70s and 80s with 3 floors to discover. If you take your time, you can spend 3 hours altogether, and do not forget to taste as many things as you can in the bistro. It is a quite lighthearted version of the era with the focus on the everyday life. For foreigners, it is best to join a guided tour as the descriptions next to the items on exhibit are very short and sometimes missing. The items themselves mean a lot to those who lived in this era but may mean much less to those who were fortunate enough not to experience this era firsthand.

The history of a country and its allied countries are presented impressively and clearly in this museum. Visitors, whether school classes or tourists, can touch everything, take photos and learn. Many subject areas are hidden behind illuminated "high-rise buildings" that can be opened like small closet doors. Whether space, a TV studio, cars, typical living room, kitchen and so on, it invites you to be transported back. The telephone booths where you can listen to something in different languages are really great. A clear visit recommendation to enjoy your own look back into the past.

Best part is the police car you can drive around since it’s synced with the screen in front of you! Place filled with an abundance of little knick-knacks and fun screens you can interact with. Overall fun!

Excellent interactive museum for all ages. Makes the day-to-day sights and sounds of 1950s to 1980s come to life. It is a bit light on history on the surface, but there are many phones throughout with recordings in multiple languages that provide even more detailed information.

It is a really clever and well presented museum covering the kitsch side of the Soviet occupation. I think the only criticism that you could level added is exactly it's strength: a completely candy glosses over all of the atrocities from that. Instead, it offers a wry wink and smile for some of the more adorable things with a rose-coloured glasses of hindsight. You could walk right past a lot of things in there, they have a lot of meat stuff packed into a good space with lots of storytelling. For instance, you'll go past four motorcycles in the elevator and each of them I wanted to stop and look at. Imagine it will also be very popular for Instagram selfies. For a more serious experience of the same time, I highly recommend the House of Terror museum nearby.

Interesting place to learn about Hungary in its soviet era. Has interactive features and each room you are going through a different era. It is a little bit pricy, but I understand as it’s needed for the upkeep of the memorabilia.

It was interesting. You could interact with the things from the museum. I don’t know if the jukebox was working.

A great museum that offers some great information about the history of Hungary and Budapest. I particularly loved the sections about space and liked how they also displayed what a typical Hungarian household would look like back during the war, including what they would eat and the packaging on the food. This place is also very interactive which is always so good for museums as it keeps people engaged. The interactive car that you can drive is very cool and I like how you can also take photos with filters on throughout and email them to yourself as a souvenir to keep free of charge. This place also offers a student discount which is really helpful for students like myself who are travelling on a budget. The museum also has toilets which were clean and well kept, as well as a small bar/restaurant at the front of the building. You can also store your bags and belongings in a locker free of charge before you enter which I found was a nice touch. If you are looking for good museums in Budapest, I highly recommend this one.

A Soviet era museum that details all aspects of life for Hungary between 1940s and 1980s. What strikes you about the exhibition is the sheer variety. From cars, toys, television, motorbikes, spacesuits, kitchen drawers, bazookas, telephone boots, clothes, radio, badges, furniture, books, computers etc. It's just so massively comprehensive and presented in such a fun and interesting way. There are loads of the exhibition that are behind these tower block housing which you pull out to reveal. And if that wasn't enough, there's a bar/cafe up front and a great gift shop that sells realistic looking medals in cases for just 9 euro. If you're in Budapest, this is absolutely totally essential to visit.

Nice museum with many exhibits with the subject of e.g. space travel, sports, cars and everyday life from earlier days. Ticket quite expensive and unfortunately little or no explanation of the pexhibits. Overall a nice experience!

Best place, done with love and knowledge. Many, many details, from astronauts to kitchen utensils. If you are interested in this Era, make sure you visit. It is also very interactive, you can drive a police car, play video games, be on the news. Loved it.

Great museum, we visited on weekday, around 2pm, and we were mostly alone, which was great for taking pictures. Great interior and design, they have lockers at the entrance to leave your things. The staff was very friendly and nice, they even helped us with suitcases cause they didn’t fit in the locker. It is very interactive. Great place for fun pictures and learning about past. :)

Fun little museum with all kinds of items from. The 60's - 80's. A lot of things are not specific to the communist area. I remember lots of items and my mom still uses the hair curlers on display. It's a small little museum but with a wide variety of items. They have some interactive displays, which is fun for kids. They now know how to use a rotary phone. The place also has a nice cafe with retro candy and sodas.

This was a very nice place, so colourful and interesting. We had a couple of drinks and hot sandwiches and paid about £17. Staff was super friendly.

Really interesting place. Lively and energetic vibe throughout. Lots of fascinating exhibits displayed in a very clever way. Would have given five stars but it isn't quite as accessible to non-Hungarian speakers as say the equivalent museum in Berlin is to non-German speakers.
