A very enigmatic building, made of at least four materials to hold the walls. We did not understand immediatly what it was about when we visited Buda. However it is a nice remnant from the past in the middle of a beautiful place (Buda). It is funny to look at the plates on the building around there. Almost all of them display the name: "Muemlek", which mean monument in Hungarian language.

CHURCH OF MARY MAGDALENE The Church of Mary Magdalene in Buda, across from City Hall in the northwest of Buda Hill, is one of the oldest churches in the Buda Castle District. Constructed in Gothic style between the 13th and 15th centuries, it's dedicated to Mary Magdalene, a follower of Jesus. Today, only the church's tower and ruins remain. Among these ruins, a restored window stands prominently in the eastern corner of the church. The view from the tower's highest point is panoramic and rewarding, but the ascent involves numerous narrow steps that might tire you. Moreover, I wouldn't recommend it to someone with a fear of heights.

Church of Saint Mary Magdalene is a towering gem in Budapest, but be prepared for quite a climb! There are numerous stairs to ascend and descend, so it's essential to be physically fit. However, the effort is undoubtedly worth it, as you'll be rewarded with stunning views of the city from the top. The church's architecture is captivating, and its historical significance adds to the overall experience. Once you reach the summit, take a moment to soak in the panoramic vistas and capture some breathtaking photos. Keep in mind that the climb may not be suitable for everyone, but if you're up for the challenge, the Church of Saint Mary Magdalene is a must-visit spot in Budapest for its unique perspective on the city.

Remains of Gothic church partially destroyed at end of WWII. The tower still stands and is open (for a fee OR for free with the Budapest Card) to climb. Well worth it to see the view of the city.

Pretty church tower at the southern end of the old town of Buda. Nice architecture and information boards around, good to check out when wandering around the old town…

The access is free with the Budapest Card. Since these are the ruins of an ancient church, there is not much to see. An absolute negative point is the lack of an handrail: you must climb an endless spiral staircase, with narrow, high and worn-out steps, without any safety support. Still, the view from the top is great.

It's one of the best places in Budapest, a shell of what it used to be but remarkable history, you get a grasp of the entire history of the city through the history of this church from when the city was established to the bitter years of World War II and Communism. Entry is cheap and you get a few good views of the hills of Buda and the surrounding buildings

This church is a medieval church, but it was reconstructed in baroque style after the big damage it suffered during the fifth austro hungarian war and the liberation of Hungary from the ottoman invasion. Today remains only the tower and a window in a typical gothic style. It's a beautiful, magnific place, worth the visit. It brings you to another area.

Just recently opened the tower has impressive 360 degree views. 172 steps and 900 HUF puts you at the top. They are still working on the place so as yet there are no exhibitions or displays. Just the tower and the views. Still worth it.

The building itself has a strange shape that makes it interesting. You can go up for a small fee and have a view on the city. However, I don’t consider it to be a must to do.

Well worth the visit. Alternative view of Budapest if one does not want to have to go to St. Matthias' Church. Cheaper and quieter. An interesting history of the various sieges that affected the church and castle hill is provided. A lovely view of Budapest. The woman at the till who charged entry was unfriendly and, whether intended or not, nearly charged me the same fee twice.

We came to the sight at 16:30h / 4:30 pm, and it said at the sight that the tower is open until 18h / 6 pm, yet it was already closed when we came. We knocked on the door and a worker there ignored us for a while and then arrogantly yelled at us that the place was closed, we pointed at the time yet nothing came of it. There was no sign that said that they were closed or some indication that they did not work, and on Google Maps as well as at the sight it clearly said that they are open until 18h. We saw other tourists wanting to see the sight who were confused too as to why it is already closed. We later found out on their website that they are just open until 16h / 4 pm, but it would be much better if it were not misleadingly written on the sight that they were open until 18h / 6 pm. So, if you plan to visit this beatiful gothic tower, be prepared that it might be closed even if it says otherwise on Google Maps and on the sight itself, and check their website before you go to see when they close

(Translated by Google) The building was founded in 1408, it was restored in some places, climbing the stone stairs is normal, but it was hard for me, as a noble warrior of heights, especially the descent, let go of trembling for a long time. Inside, there’s nothing to look at, but the windows offer a bird's eye view of the city. (Translated by Google) The tower of the church of Mary Magdalene in Buda is all that remains of the Buda guard church erected here in 1274. They say that the Hungarians came to pray here, since only the Germans were allowed to enter the church of St. Matthias. In the seventeenth century, after the liberation of the Hungarian lands from the Turkish yoke, during which the church of Mary Magdalene was turned into a mosque, the monks from the Order of St. Francis of Assisi rebuilt the temple in the Baroque style. Already in the XX century, during the Second World War, the church was significantly affected by shelling - from it there was practically only one foundation. In the fifties, the leader of the Communist Party of Hungary, Matthias Rakosi, ordered the liquidation of the ruins. And only in 1989 it was possible to begin the restoration of the tower of the church of Mary Magdalene using the old baroque building. Recovery was completed in 1997. I recommend to visit! By BudapestCard admission is free!
