Don't believe what Google Maps tells you. This museum is closed completely. In 2021 it will reopen in a brand new building in City Park near Heroes Square. By all means go to see the exterior of the building to view the large collection of busts and monuments to notable Hungarians.

(Translated by Google) Temporarily closed until next year for renovation, it still shows off in its majestic venue, which once housed the Palace of Justice. Imposing and with a somewhat rhetorical architecture, it contrasts in the forms and volumes with the more eclectic and imaginative Parliament, whose palace stands practically opposite. Pedestrians (and trams) have recently been returned to the square in front, the historical stage of events, sometimes even bloody, which have characterized the troubled history of this country. @gargio76

We really liked this museum. It is situated near the embankment not far from the bridge that is over the Danube. The part of the area is Pest. We managed to visit only one floor exhibition, as the others were closed and they will be open in a week. It was an exhibition on the third floor- the permanent one. We were really delighted when we saw Warhol's work as well as Picasso's several works. The price is 5 euros. The place is quite calm and picturesque. We like the interior. The museum souvenir shop was nice, but we would like to recommend to have more books about art in English. By the way if you have big bags or backpacks, you can leave them in the special lockers for free.

I have been to the Ludwig Museum twice so far. I love the building as well as the contemporary artworks. They have a cool museum shop and a restsurant area. I tried the food there and it was excellent. I truly recommend this museum for all the contemporary art lovers. Sometimes, they organize events, too.

I really liked it! We've been there on saturday and it was almost empty. No line no waiting. Depends on the exhibitions but generally you can buy tickets for all of them or separately. You can use your student ID for discounts. One of the current exhibition is time machine, I recommend you to see it. It is just 800 forint with student card (1600 for adults). We spent 1-2 hour inside but depends on you ofc. It might take a half day to finish all of the exhibitions. Plus building itself and the garden next to it are also worth to see :)

Modern arts musem open between 10 - 18. A regular ticket starts from 1600 Ft and can go as high as 8000 Ft for a season ticket which usually contains the entrance for the museum and the exhibitions. Aside from other pieces, you will find works by Warhol and other pop art creators on its three floors. There's also a library that's collecting activity focuses on Hungarian and international art after 1945 as its main subject area, with a special emphasis on the art of the Central and Eastern European regions. The place is really neat and interesting, but you probably need to be a fan of the modern arts to fully enjoy and understand the experience.

I have been in this beautiful historical building during an event for children with workshops and live music. The permanent collection is very interesting if you like this kind of history, anyway it could be a good place to visit for everyone.

Too bad this museum is now closed. I came here on a class trip a while back. Loved the textiles! A thousand years of culture should definitely be on public display.

For sure I found the Time Machine (3rd Floor) and Emplotment (2nd Floor) to be the most attractive and interesting exhibitions. I didn't really get the Extended Present exhibition (1st Floor), seems a bit weird to me and trying to make something out of nothing. But then I'm probably not thinking deeply enough. There is lift access to all Floors and an information booklet on each of the three exhibitions which will give you as much detail as you might want around the thinking behind each collection. Very enjoyable anyway and worth visiting for the 2nd & 3rd Floors. The building is very modern and spacious, ideal for the display of contemporary Artworks.

Well curated museum of interesting exhibitions. We were there a few weeks ago and saw the Boris Lurie & Wolf Vostell exhibition. We joined an english language tour which lasted only 30 minutes. It was fascinating and could have easily been longer. Unfortunately the exhibition is now no longer available to see. However, gallery spaces are light and breezy and there's some lovely views over the Danube and there are other exhibitions that may well be worth seeing.

The museum is offering temporary and permanent modern art exhibitions. I loved it huge space, enough air for thoughts and exploring. The recent temporary exhibition is full of interesting metaphors, interesting to see the artworks. We really likes that explanation was provided to each piece, it makes it easier to understand the intentions of the creator. Permanent exhibition is also new and there are a lot of interesting works as well, just thezt are not explained, so you are just being lost in your senses and creativity. Definitely a must visit place in Budapest! Prices are affordable, tickets are available online, szep kartya is accepted here. Reserve 2-3 hours for sure in your schedule.

The museum has done a great job of curating some great content from all over eastern Europe, however the commentary about the artworks is not there, which makes you difficult to understand the essence of these works. It's better to have a preliminary understanding of contemporary art from eastern european region before you step into Ludwig, it helps to relate many works that are exhibited across three floors. Worth a visit if you're an art lover, else skip it!

Such a big and quiet museum. I got to see free contemporary exhibitions because of its 30 year anniversary and found international artists' works of art together with ones from Hungarian artists. The staff on the evening spoke English and was generally friendly and helpful. Cloakroom is big and free of charge, toilets are tidy and the shop lovely and well stocked too.

(Translated by Google) Ethnographic Museum - The building of the Museum is a Neo-Renaissance palace built at the end of the 19th century, a former Court of Auditors and a Court of Cassation. The museum gives a complete picture of agricultural society from the 18th to the early 20th century, before the Treaty of Trianon. Culture, fishing, crafts, markets and fairs, family and holidays are well illustrated with photos, costumes, household items, furniture and more.

We visited the "Time machine" exhibition. Price: 1600 HUF. I guess we expected something more - we didn't really find it interesting compared to other contemporary art galleries (for example it's not interactive at all). Still a nice way to spend the afternoon. The building is clean and modern (toilets as well) with nice view, the staff was friendly and helpful.

Went to see the exhibitions about “The cuteness factor and Time machine” very much impressed with the staffs, cleanliness and exhibitions settings - easy to follow and you will eventually walk through all the art easily. The toilets are also very clean and high technology 😂. I went there on Sunday afternoon, pretty quiet and just right amount of people so you can enjoy art privately and peacefully 💕 highly recommended! Also after the exhibition, you can enjoy the cafe with affordable price and allow you to sit in the front with shade and good breeze from the wind 💨.

Stunning Building. As a museum, I found the exhibits a bit unconnected, as other museums make more of an effort to connect a gallery and an exhibit with more of one solid idea. If you like Contemporary Art, it's great. It was worth to me to see the building light up at night. Light panels change color and blink, it's fun although a tad kitchy.

(Translated by Google) The museum moved to its present location in 1973, for the former Hungarian Royal Mansion in 1896 it was completed according to the plans of Alajos Hauszmann. The plan to establish the museum dates back to March 5, 1872, when János Xántus was appointed guardian of the Ethnographic Department of the Hungarian National Museum. His first exhibition is also named after János Xántus. The museum's permanent exhibition entitled “The Traditional Culture of the Hungarian People” presents folk culture through the material memories of the everyday life and holidays of the Hungarian peasantry. It's a contemporary arts museum, that said, the enjoyment of a visitor derives from the content of the changing exhibitions. It's advised to check what's on and to pay attention to other activities on museum grounds (festivals, open air shows, etc). The museum's location is a bit off the main tourist areas, it can be reached easily be public transportation, or a 40min by foot from the Parliament along the Danube.

Review based on an exhibition, not a permanent collection, so it will get outdated with the change of the exhibition! Not being an art critic it's hard to review the exhibition. I enjoyed the mix of selected art pieces from famous modern art names—Johns, Rauschenberg, Picasso—to contemporary Hungarian artics whose names I (of course) do not recall. The works were well displayed and nicely spaced out, so even if there were many people I doubt it'd feel crowded (this is in contrast to some exhibits in the Szépművészeti Múzeum). The ticket was cheap for this size of exhibition. The whole museum building was very quiet, even though it was the weekend. Perhaps because it's located a bit further away from the centre. There is a nice cafe with an outdoor sitting space.

If you’re into 19 minutes videos of tongues sticking out of walls and plastic toys thrown on the floor, it’s really worth a visit. Two Picassos and a Lichtenstein on the 3rd floor. Beautiful ziggurat outside

Amazing museum in an amazing building on an amazing place. Too bad the shop doesn't have more personalized merchandise (prints, nicer magnets, t-shirts, notebooks...), because everything inside it is expensive and little bit random.

I visited the museum using the Budapest Card, which gives access to the permanent exhibition and 50% discount to the temporary exhibitions. The permanent exhibition isn't very big. One floor with mostly paintings. I'd recommend paying for the temporary ones. At the time of this review, they are very interesting and add two whole floors to the visit.

Gorgeous varied contemporary museum. Videos, sculpture, paintings, mixed media… Ticket price was around €4 for students to access all 3 floors.

We enjoyed all the exhibits and though they change I would suggest getting the ticket to see them all. The various sections had good English and Hungary descriptions. The building is a work of art in itself. Easy to get to via public transport.

Fantastic museum! This is definitely a must if you like contemporary art. The works are prime quality. The curators seem to really know what they are doing. The building itself is amazing. Loved it.

Went there on a public holiday, there was no wait, except for the jacket hanger/closet but it went by fast. There was only 2 floors, the “Time Machine” exhibition and a temporary “Cloud” show. There are nice pieces there, some Picassos’

Positively surprised by the high level of temporary exhibitions on display. The gallery is a bit outside of the city center but I am so glad I went. The staff is lovely! Recommend for contemporary art enthusiasts.

Sadly main exhibition closes at 18 contradicting Google maps data. Be warned! Also main part of the building is a concert hall, so museum is small and disappointing. Beautiful river view is an only thing which can justify a long journey here.

Beautiful museum. In June 2023 I visited it and the fantastic exhibitions. The display was perfect as well. A must if you're in Budapest and you love contemporary art.

Amazing contemporary art museum. They have different exhibitions on different floors and you can buy a combi ticket for all or decide on only one. Very nice rooms and collected art. Espacially the discriptions add a lot to the experience, they provide you with all you need to know about the artist as well as the art.

Ticket discount under 26 wasn’t available for us because we’ve been told that if we are not EU citizens we don’t have right for discount, despite we are EU residents and paying taxes on the same law. Expositions are very good, but employees around the building made us uncomfortable, walking around us all the time like guards, it felt like being in prison, not museum. They could be more friendly

Nice exhibition, but difficult to catch the main idea.

Lovely building, that needs some proper signage. A bit of a mystery tour when you alight the tram and start looging for the Ludwig Museum. The name is on the river side of the building, great if you arrive by boat! Two out of three exhibitions were good but the third an "Emperors new clothes" affair, the artist did a magnificent job job of fooling the powers that be..........
