This is the biggest and best park in Budapest. Its a small island and it has everything. Ancient ruins, water parks, a tower with a view, a huge musical fountain, lots of kiosks, places to rent bikes or scooters. A japanese garden etc your trip to Budapest wont be complete without getting there.

MARGARET ISLAND The island stretches for 2.5 kilometers in length and spans 500 meters in width, centrally located within Budapest. Access primarily occurs via the Margaret Bridge. It's a splendid location to spend an entire day, wandering through the pathways of its lush green parks or even cruising around on electric scooters along the island's central roads. It offers an array of delightful spots to pause and relish in nature's beauty, along with the exquisite flower arrangements that adorn it. Kudos to the city's horticulturists for maintaining the park meticulously – it's impeccably clean throughout. In addition to this, you can explore attractions like the Water Tower, the Japanese garden on the island's northern edge, and certainly various points to sit, dine, and enjoy refreshments, mainly found in restaurants and bars on the island's eastern side. If your visit extends into the evening, as you depart the island, take a moment to savor the Musical Fountain at the entrance and exit. It's a mesmerizing spectacle of water jets, illuminated by lights and accompanied by enchanting music, drawing a captivated audience. Truly, it's a breathtaking locale, and the residents of Budapest are undeniably fortunate to have the opportunity to revel in its beauty on a frequent, if not daily, basis.

Plenty to see and a beautiful walk along the promenade to get to the bridge to access it. Lots of activities on the island, food and drink places. I went this week and it was quiet but that suited me perfectly. The place was tranquil and scenic. It has a lot of history to discover. I'd imagine in the summer then it's better still for picnics and the like

Margaret Island, with its serene beauty and diverse dining scene, proved to be a delightful destination for relaxation and culinary exploration. The island's lush greenery and tranquil riverside offered a refreshing escape from city life. Amidst the peaceful pathways, I found solace and rejuvenation, even though some areas were a bit crowded during peak times. The range of dining options, from cozy cafes to elegant restaurants, was a true highlight. The delicious food I savored left me yearning for more, adding an exciting dimension to my visit. Margaret Island's recreational facilities provided ample opportunities to unwind. Whether it was reading a book, cycling, or simply soaking in nature's beauty, the island catered to relaxation enthusiasts. In summary, Margaret Island's charm as a serene getaway with a delightful dining scene makes it a top choice for relaxation. Despite minor crowds, the island's allure and culinary offerings are compelling reasons for a return visit.

We came to the island to have a picnic, we sat on one of the many benches that were there in front of the fountain and just had fun! We saw a fountain show which was very entertaining and in general the park itself is quite charming. I recommend coming here! A different atmosphere from the city.

Beautiful park with many sports and playgrounds. Great for enjoying the sun there. There are several swimming pools and restaurants there. A S-Bahn runs to the entrance to the islands. It takes about 1-2 hours to walk around the entire island.

Great place to relax, have a walk and get some drinks! Looks amazing during all times of the year, but especially in autumn. It has all the facilities you need to spend the day there: sport fields, swimming pool, thermal bath, restaurants, bike rent service, petting zoo, public toilets etc.

Just wonderfull. I really appreciate it that hungarian people know how to do tourism, inviting you in places that are not nearly that big of a deal but, overall, you feel great, the experience is a beautiful one. I enjoyed the singing fountain, the endless park with autumn scenery, the sunbeds that allow you to sit and just admire nature, the japanese garden, the ruins. I didn t appreciate that the tower was closed and we couldn t admire the view from the top. It was a great walk.

Wonderful island in Danube with very well maintained gardens, fountains, some ruins and a huge are for running or bicycling. However it will be nice to have more signs and labels for historical information in English.

Wonderful park for cycling, picnics, doing sports or just wandering around. Also I like their free mini-zoo and the musical fountain show which happens in the evening. There is a nice swimming pool called Palatinus on its territory and a few nice cafes. We’ve been there a few times already since our arrival to Budapest.

Best park in Budapest. Amazingly long and full of oak trees that in fall make for a wonderful pathway and in summer will save you from heat. A lot of different parts and sights, so big you forget you're on an island. Worth the time to cross it over. Best part is the south entrance of course. The northern isn't anything special, but it has less tourists.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND!! Best way to check this island out is to walk along the outside and essentially do a circle. You will easily do 15k steps seeing all the various attractions. The musical fountain and rose garden were the highlights.

This is a lovely island to visit, with buses departing from the island and carrying visitors to near the Japanese gardens. It was wonderful when I visited throughout autumn with a fish pond and rock. There are cycles accessible for those who want to ride by themselves, with someone else, or with a purchased bike. If you're visiting with children or the elderly, I recommend renting a quirky vehicle, cycling, or using the bus.  We walked for more than an hour to get to the island. This island is free to visit and features a rose garden, Palatinus Strand baths in the middle of the island where it was quiet, and a musical fountain. The public is welcome to walk around or follow the sign boards. It was a wonderful location to walk through and photograph. You can see the Danube River and the city's other side.

Margaret Island in Budapest is a serene oasis in the heart of the Danube. Lush greenery, scenic walking paths, and historic landmarks make it a tranquil escape. The musical fountain adds a delightful touch. Sports enthusiasts can enjoy the recreational facilities. While the island provides a peaceful retreat, occasional crowds during peak hours may affect the experience. Overall, Margaret Island is a charming blend of nature and culture, offering a refreshing break from the city's bustle.

It was unfortunate that I was on a day and a time when neither of the two light sources worked and also coming out of winter the park had its trees with few leaves. However, there are many people, walking, jogging and strolling enjoying the day. It is pleasant and will surely be very pretty in spring, summer and winter. By the way, I got a cell phone and I ran out to take it to the girl who had left it on that lounger and when I gave it to her she almost looked at me with bad taste. I'm not sure if he thanked me 😇 🤪😀🤣😂😅

At first, I thought it was just a big useless island, but it's worth going and looking around at least once. Anyone with time to spare should go The park is good It's not bad to take the bus and then walk back. Rather, the buildings in the upper Buda are older and the upper Pest has the feel of a new city, so the buildings are more impressive.

Wonderful place. Lots to see. A musical fountain with nightly screenings, a nunnery, statues, a Japanese garden, etc. there is a running line on which you can run around the island, you can have a picnic, there are restaurants and a beach, and washrooms that can be used for 200ft. You can rent foot-powered vehicles that you can use to walk around the place,

Great place for a winter walk. Quite a big space and lots of walking areas free of cars and bikes. A few deer and larger birds kept in an enclosure - feels like the countryside. You can also rent a bike buggy to get around the island which is a lot quicker than walking.

Great spot for a free plan in Budapest!! You can do loads of things apart from strolling like going to the thermal pools, spot squirrels, seeing the musical fountain, climbing the tower or spending the day eating in Hippie Island. It's huge so it's fantastic if the weather is nice!

Margit island in the middle of the Danube river is definitely a place to visit if you’re a tourist for a walk or a morning run if you like to keep your fitness going while on holidays. There is a running track ALL AROUND the island. It’s a great place to cycle, skate, roller skate, rollerblade. In the summer there is a nice fountain show with music and laser lights. The island is a place of gathering for different groups of people who share the same hobby. You’ll often see groups of people doing whatever they all enjoy doing whether playing sports or dancing or doing yoga. In Autumn you can admire the beautiful colours as seen on these pictures. There are bikes, scooters and family trolleys available for rental at the big roundabout at the entrance to the island. There is an outdoor swimming pool on the island too.

Love the Margaret Island Musical Fountain. Explored its lush greenery, including the medieval Margaret Monastery, named after Queen Margaret, a Hungarian saint. The 2.5 km island offers natural beauty, an open-air cinema, a pool park, and sports fields. Perfect for walks, cycling, and picnics. A tranquil retreat from the city's noise, popular among Budapest residents.

A beautiful calming place for a walk, cycling and relaxing. Pros: Easy access Beautiful view of the river and both sides of the city. Kids friendly Cons: A bit pricey bike rentals (What we thought of) the Japanese garden wasn't much of a sight seeing

Very nice Island with a lot of attractions! Actually the Island looks like a giant park. Some nice things you can find there are: a beautiful and enormous garden, a street food, an open air cinema (free) with food trucks and also there is a water fountain that has a synchronized presentation of the water jets with music and colorful lights each hour. The entry is free!

Love this spot in the busy city center. Little green, nice walk all over from 1bridge to another 40mins. Nice pubs, liked the Hippie island, however they put an extra item on the final bill (bottle of house wine). Which we didnt order and sent back immediately.. Disappointing. But the water fountain is lovely, with music underneath the water falls. Very refreshing point in hot summer. Revommend💦🎶👌🏝️

!!! A slice of paradise in Budapest. The fountain has music shows at the top of every hour, and this is something that should be experienced. The island itself is full of natural beauty, and it has many different things to see - a small zoo, a beautiful light garden, the water tower, Japanese garden, public bath, remains of an old church, and an area dedicated to St. Margaret among them. If you're in Budapest, you have to take the time to walk through the entire island. Lovely place

A wonderful place for locals as well as tourists. It has running tracks, bikes, scooters, jeeps to drive around. There is a beautiful Japanese garden , ruins of a monestery, a few trees which are more than 500 years old, a small zoo which you can enter the area where animals are freely roaming around. The fountain works only in the evenings and not in winter.

If only I can stay longer in Budapest, definitely will pack my picnic bag and set a meal under the sun here! No one can beat smell of fresh air and great sunny days in summer at Margaret Island. Try the cable car as well!

A recreational park. Lots of mature trees, greeneries and park benches to sit and recharge. There is a public swimming pool, a Japanese garden, a water tower to explore. There are toilets dotted here and there. Local bus #26 traverse the whole island, otherwise it's mostly car free. Lots of quadracycles and bicycles for hire.
