The place is nicely decorated. The food is overpriced... way way overpriced... It could be fun to hangout and have a good time here but those unbelievable prices ruin all the fun. Go to a good restaurant... it will cost 2/3 to 1/2 of the christmas market price and the food will be hot and taste much better!

The fair was smaller than I expected. Much smaller. There are a lot of people during Christmas time. The food is delicious. Classic langosz that melted in your mouth with its garlic aroma. And potato pancake with goulash, because what else? Choice of chicken or pork. Both very, very good!

Many stalls and things to see. Be careful with some food vendors who will overcharge you a lot (like the really big one near the Hard Rock Cafe). By the time you've already selected your food, it's already too late. Concert there plays really random music like rap and rock, which takes away a bit of the Christmas vibe. Overall, nice to walk around.

We really enjoyed the Budapest christmas markets. Access control were quick, the market itself not too full. Good selection of hand made goods and food stalls. We quite enjoyed the mulled red wine. Nice, hot with tasty spices.

Attention, please 🙏! One hotdog + one plate with chicken + one candy box beer= 56 euro! hopefully, we realise that at the beginning. You could eat in a restaurant three people with the same amount of money .

It is overpriced SCAM! Be aware of this TOURIST TRAP! Meals for 2 people, paprikas and half portion of stew (perkelt), we paid 40 Euros! I think it is tourist trap. In the nearby very fancy café, you pay half price for same meals.

Decorations are really nice and with the crisp cold air gives off a really christmassy feel. Unfortunately the markets are really overpriced and they just want to rip you off as much as possible. Fortunately there was a few things close enough by to keep us entertained. BE AWARE of street scammers with birds and the taxi drivers

Review contains useful advice! Overall the marketplace is really beautiful and there are a lot of decorations where you can take wonderful pictures. However, it is pricey. We had two (although very big) sausages which ended up being €47, which is a lot. ⭐️ An advice to all, check if the stand takes only card because we had the same issue and from then on we had to make sure the places took cash so we didn’t have a situation where we didn’t have enough money on card! Overall, I enjoyed it very much!!

Beautiful Christmas market to really get you in the mood for the season. A great variety of vendors and food options. As a first-time visitor, I loved the market. However, the price of the food was really high, and it was not transparent at times. I purchased a dinner plate that had one stuffed cabbage roll. The vendor asked if I wanted a side and I chose potatoes. He scooped up some additional shredded cabbage onto the plate. I ordered a mulled wine. Altogether, the cost was 25 euros! So that was my one and only meal and I ended up eating elsewhere in the city before arriving at the market. I love to support vendors, but that came at a really high cost. They need to do a better job of being transparent with their pricing. Other than that, I loved the atmosphere and how it brought people together. I had hoped they would have some live music or some traditional performers, but I didn't see any on the nights I visited.

Absolutely terrible! Turned into a complete tourist trap that offers barely any Hungarian culture. Tacky, tacky animations on the Basilika (I mean come on, it is a church), gross unauthentic tasting overpriced Hungarian food, hundreds of people pushing and shoving everyone at the same time for Instagram worthy pictures, all the stands were pretty much selling the same generic overpriced stuff, nothing but American music being blasted, packed in shoulder to shoulder, the Covid document check line was longer than the line at the airport. Oh gosh this place was a mess. Scam alert! Order in Hungarian if you can or be very careful if you order in English by asking for prices before they charge you. Hungarian speakers were paying nearly half at food stands compared to foreigners. The food stands were beyond taking advantage of tourists by not listing prices/hoping tourists didn't understand currency conversion. Disgusting behavior from the vendors. We won't visit again.

Absolute must see on Budapest. The Vörösmarty tér market is the best in Hungary, and beats any market in Vienna or Innsbruck. The range of foods and the way they are displayed is extraordinary. It can take over an hour to decide what to try. As well the range of other products around the main food area is colourful, interesting and full of atmosphere.

The fair was nice and there were a lot of vendors with nice products for some perfect gifts. They provided free public toilets, near the fair, which was a good thing. I didn't like the fact that the prices for some of the food stands were not displayed or not very visible. We ended up paying quite a lot for some plates of food, and didn't even know how much they would cost until they were served. Also, it would have been a good thing to put all the benches and tables for eating under a tent, as when we arrived everything was wet.

Our first Christmas Fair experience in Europe. It did not disappoint, except perhaps the prices of most food not being visible to customers. But the variety of food was spectacular! We went here everyday during our stay in Budapest, at different times of the day, to try out as many food as we could.

A lot of delicious national food, mulled wine, souvenirs and festive Christmas mood. Prices are reasonable, mainly payment by card. There is also an ice rink there. A bit overcrowded, could be difficult to find a table to eat.

This year, my wife and I took four days for Budapest and especially for the fair. It is necessary to admit that we had something to see and we kept coming back. We ate at the fair only twice. Everything was excessively expensive, and unfortunately the quality was not the best. However, there was plenty of food. We were more impressed with the other products and the offer. We also enjoyed the screenings of The Nutcracker at the Church of Saint Stephen.

Fantastic place to find lots of Christmas related merchandise, including but not limited to ceramics, air fresheners, beauty products, fur or leather products, fashion shirts, daily shirts, wood crafted items, cookies/cakes/pastries, souvenirs, tasty and lots of variety local food. It has live music performances till late night. It opens at 10 am till about 9 pm. Worth going for and is one of the best in the world.

really worth going to this Christmas market. lots of varieties of food, drinks , unique art, bags, decorations. there are tables and chairs for those who choose to dine there. ordered a large nice pork knuckles which cost 1400. could not find any public toilets there except one inside a mall charging you 250 per person.

I'm going to give this a 4* it's quite a small Christmas market but don't let that put you off. It was a very traditional Christmas market and the food was varied with loads of choices. Plus Budapest is beautiful as of 2019 a cheap destination with some restaurants offering fine dining food at cheap prices £12 for a main. Beautiful architecture everywhere. I reccomend a long weekend for here 3 to 4 days. Ruin Bars are a must if you enjoy drinking somewhere a little quirky and the day market is worth a visit with lots of homemade products and food items.

It is a stunning christmas market! So many beautiful handmade items to choose from as well as fantastic foods which are rather over prices but as this is the city centre they have to pay high rents and tourists still don't think it is very expensive. For those who live in Hungary it isn't cheap. The lights and the decorations are always spectacular. A must visit christmas market!

Oh boy, I love this place. I love this so much that I went three times. There are over 40 different vendors at this market. We got to try authentic and Hungarian Food, from amazing and warm people here at this market. When I went the first time it was at night time and I tried their mod wine whiuch is the hot wine with some spices, the price was awesome because it was only three dollars to the change!

Christmas markets, done well. Easily accessible, with all your favorite treats, from Chimney bread, Hot wine, delicious hot Chocolate and tasty and warm pork dishes that come around especially for the season. The stall staff aren’t always the friendliest to be honest. I loved the variety of crafts, gorgeous leather items and warm winter clothing/accessories. I look forward to heading to this European market every festive season

The Budapest Christmas market was nice but nothing too spectacular, even though I read some articles claiming it to be the best Christmas market in Europe. There are tons of local drinks and food to try, however, I would recommend doing this in a proper Hungarian restaurant as the prices can be a bit salty. Nevertheless, there a lot of handmade products for sale with mostly affordable prices.

Beautiful location and great Christmas music playing over the speakers. A little chaotic, the food stalls need a lot more seating, but they’re excellent with the trash. A good number of the stalls are selling stuff repackaged from China/etc, so beware.

There were 2 markets: Christmas fair in Vörösmarty Square & the Advent Feast at St Stephen’s Basilica. Unsure where “the most beautiful” nomination comes from to be honest. We had one evening where it was raining heavily and they did not build any covered-up places for people to eat under. What is great is that you can easily pay by card everywhere. Otherwise, the food we had (in front of the Basilica) was hands-down, terrible. They re-heat the food (after they cook way too much for whatever reason) in microwaves. We paid 20€ per person for a portion of food (for example - 1 portion of cabbage rolls with polenta - 20eur) ridiculously expensive. However, do try the mülled wine, they seem to be preparing it with more care and it is definitely tasty.

Decoration, it was nice. I went there because of the hot wine. I saw small panel price of the food it was expensive. I wanna try one but the guys would to close the shop.. So they would not to sell it for me really not polite of service. Better go restaurent for eat but drink is okay here.

The winter festival was bustling with people! This festival had a nice atmosphere and had beautiful scenery (like the Christmas tree). The city was bright and festive and had a wide variety of shops to browse. It was also very COVID safe and children can come as well.

Christmas Markets in Budapest are quintessentially magical! 🎄🎁🌟 The Budapest Christmas Market at Vörösmarty Square has over a hundred stores selling a variety of Hungarian delights & beautiful trinkets. Christmas spices permeate your senses as you walk amidst all the life - cinnamon, bay leaves, dried oranges & lemons. It's beautifully Christmassy! ❄️ 🥯Hungarian Flat-Bread with Cheese & Sour Cream 🥖Hungarian Chimney Cakes 🍗Roasted Goose with Potatoes & Red Cabbage Mulled wine is quite a popular here. Not my kind of thing😅 I'd stick with a warm cup of Hot Chocolate.🍫

It's OK as Christmas fairs go, meant to be the best in Europe, but I have seen better in Europe, as most fairs go, expensive but it's about the atmosphere and seeing something different, there was a few dotted about the place so make sure you see them all really, I did have a good time going around these.

  • 4/5 Euge A. 2 years ago on Google
The most central Christmas market in Budapest. Not very big. Generally it's nice, but quite crowded. Hot wine costs 900 hungarian forints. In the evening they have a light show on the wall of the cathedral. They sell all kinds of Christmas souvenirs and snacks.

  • 5/5 Aroundtheglobe 1 year ago on Google
It was definitely worth a visit. Strolling through the christmas market whilst enjoying a cup of punsch really made our stay in Budapest memorable. At night the lights and stands are even prettier.

Loved it! Very pleasantly surprised with just about everything! The ambiance is good and happy, the food is really diverse and more oriented towards national cuisine, which I really respect. The prices are a bit on the higher side, but it's Christmas time. I am also pleasantly surprised about how good the people of Budapest speak English. I have been told over years that they are bad with foreign languages and I'm happy to say that's totally not true.

It was lovely to wander round all the stalls- some more festive and traditional than others. However, the whole buzz/ atmosphere was great to experience, especially with some mulled wine inside you to help keep out the chill in the air. Also don't miss the 3D video screened across the Basilica at sunset.

The Budapest Christmas Fair and Winter Festival is a wonderful time. Although on Goigle Maps it looks like its centralized to one area. The Christmas market is spread throughout all of the heart of downtown Budapest. There is a wide selection of beers, wines, and other Christmas market gifts. If you're in Budapest in the holiday season, I highly recommend going to visit the Budapest Christmas Fair and Winter Festival!

We are little dissapointed by this Christmas market. Too little stands on such a big square. There was still a lot of free space. There wasnt really a Christmas atmosphere. The video mapping on the bulding didnt have much common with Christmas. We have enjoyed the smaller market by St. Istvan basilica more.
