👍 Waiting time was quite fast as we never make reservation. The food were affordable and not bad. The portion on the menu was for small and we ordered many dishes to try. The taste is not bad but lack of strong spice smell and taste. Service was good. People often mention dishes, good, small, price, Peranakan, affordable, order, peranakan, portion, prices,

Third time here. Loved the food here but came with 2 other small eaters so couldn't order more. Staff was quite religious in checking vaccination status unlike some other places. Service was quick, staff is friendly. Food is affordable. Ordered 5 dishes, and all was good! Will definitely come again.

What a lovely dining experience! The place was super packed but luckily we made reservations. The food came quickly which was good; the beef rendang tasted superb but the meat a little tough on the chew.. aside from that, the assam fish head was delicious and goes well with white rice.. right pitch of curry and sourness impinged in the right proportion and sauce mix, the chap chye was done to perfection, the tahu goreng was tasty and i am not a fan of peanut sauced melange kind of stuff as i get loads of that in Vietnamese cuisine, but this is so good, the bobochacha nicely proportioned making me want more but I already gained weight past 2 days so its good its kept small. Haha Overall rating 8.6/10 Recommended : definitely

We called in to book for a table for dinner on Sunday night. Luckily, we did that as the crowd was really quite a lot, and queue was quite long. Nyonya food is authentic and price is reasonable. Udang asam gravy is very appetising as well. Curry chicken gravy is tasty and can feel all the different spices in it. Will definitely return to try other dishes.

Very popular peranakan food place. Very long queue if you don't have a reservation. Dishes are quite good: liked curry fish head. Desserts are little disappointing though. The place is also quite warm, not super comfortable to stay long

I admired their guts to increase the price by at least 75% and drop the standard of the food ! The Bak Wan Soup tasted more like MSG soup now (before it was infused with taste of bamboo shots and corriander). The Sting Ray Claypot has a different gravy (used to be yellow/greenish but now it is yellow/reddish)and it didn’t taste right like before. I have to say that the worst is the Fu Yong Egg . Used to be moist, fried with prawn and bean sprout but now it is fried with mushroom and very dry. Pictures shown were taken after we couldn’t finish them like before. Finally, noted that the plastic container to serve water was not cleaned properly.

Food serving was fast but then not all dishes are my liking. Probably most dishes is too sweet for my liking. Don't expect any food presentation for a reasonable pricing. Veg portion (Spinach with Garlic) is too little for sharing.

A nice cosy place for homely peranakan food. This is a rather nostalgic place that had lasted the test of time. The furniture and utensils are largely unchanged from many many years back. The food still taste the same after the decades gone by. Definitely a place to go to for nice and affordable Peranakan food.

Prob the best peranakan food at the price point. No complaint at all. Very crowded in the evening usually so a booking is recommended. Really like the prawn egg, kway tiao, duck soup and chicken.

The prices at this restaurant are really cheap compared to what you would find elsewhere but this price difference really reflects in some of their dishes. The most enjoyable dishes for me were the coconut rice which went very well with all the gravy, the beef rendang and bobuh char char which tasted more like orh neeh if I was blind folded. The rest of the dishes were pretty forgettable.

Yummy. Meal came up to about $25 for 1 rice, 3 dishes and 1 dessert (2 pax). I like their small portions, which allow us to try more dishes. They have a pretty good variety on their menu hence dishes are expected to have hits and misses. Chicken rendang - I’d still order this again. It’s a bit watered down but hey, it’s piping hot ayam rendang in a clay pot Fish maw soup with cabbage and fishball - no it’s not the shark fin type of thick soup. Ordered this as I wanted some vegetables and soup in my meal Honey pork - yums, it’s a delectable mix of sweet and salty. The pork is a little tough but it’s a safe choice if you have kids around Chendol - the ice came in a clump but hey it’s less than $2 and convenient to order here I like their asam curry, ayam goreng rempah, nasi kuning but I didn’t feel like having these hence I didn’t order but you can give it a try!

Time seems to have stood still in this restaurant ever since I first visited more than 10 years ago! Prices have increased slightly to about $6/$7/$8 each dish but still pretty reasonable. Fuss-free and great for family/friends.

Food prices went up, staff mentions that portions for small sizes (1-2pax to 3-4pax) is increased to justify the prices increase but from the last visit, the portion is still the same but the cost of all the dishes went up by 75%. Food is not bad, wouldn’t mind paying more if the quantity is increased as they said. Very disappointing and no longer a good food place with reasonable prices. It’s just overpriced food in super small portion.

Come earlier in the night cuz when I arrived at 7.50, a number of things were sold out 😢 also, even though it was a full house, the staff were very busy and it was hard to get their attention We ended up ordering: - Sotong hitam. The sauce was nice and sweet and the squid was very tender. - Tauhu goreng. The tauhu was nicely fried on the outside and tender on the inside. The peanut sauce was very delicious too. - Ayam rendang. The sauce was very fragrant and mildly spicy, but the chicken was dry. - Longbean titek. The longbean was very soft and it was very tasty. - Iced lemon tea. It was iced lime tea, very refreshing and went well with the food. Wasn't too sweet as well - Chendol. This was disappointing, it was bland and only had 3 red beans. - Pulot Hitam. This was better. It wasn't too sweet and was very fragrant.

A very decent yet affordable Nonya restaurant, which is pretty hard to come by. 💰 while the dishes were generally affordable per dish, the serving is relatively small - which they do also recommend the dishes per pax to be had at the top of their menu 🐠 Curry fish head came with a rather thick and sour sauce, something my father enjoyed 🐖 the honey pork was pretty sweet, guess it’s the black sauce that was the star - I will probably try the rest in future though 🦐 the prawns were fresh, and a steal at $7! 🍚 the Nasi lemak set is almost a must have, very fragrant and comes with a generous serving of sides (including a dessert too) While it’s not mind blowing, it’s definitely an affordable place to have Nonya food which is considerably decent in quality 👍🏻

Food portions were small but it's affordable (no service charge too). There was a queue even at 6pm but the food came within 10 minutes after ordering. The food tastes ok, nothing special and the spices were not very strong. Down side is the restaurant is crowded and very noisy.

Great Peranakan food in Bukit Timah. Ordered some dishes, such as their ayam rendang and sotong chilli. For some of their dishes, I would say that their portion is a bit small, hence I feel that the food at this restaurant is a little expensive. But otherwise, they tasted quite nice. Will return again one day😋

The food is not bad which make me to revisit again. However the standard is rather inconsistent. I order takeaway and the portion is too little. It is not enough even for 1 person. Overall food is decent enough but standard to be consistent

Oldie but a goodie. Been coming for years. Food was good. Always the same high standard. Decor was old fashioned but comfortable. If my memory serves me right, I don't think they changed anything - same chairs, tables, etc. Service was prompt and adequate, but never that friendly or welcoming. Maybe the staff also never changed? Prices were reasonable.

Much nostalgia about this place. Nothing have changed since I first came here in the early 90's. Great home-cooked style peranakan food at very affordable prices. Super fast kitchen - food is served within 5-10min after placing order. Their Otah-otah and chilli brinjal are the must-try dishes. Dishes are small, so you can order more varieties. Serves beer, but not wine. BYO wine at S$10 corkage only.

They ran out of one of their dishes in the set menu (spinach) and refused to replace it with another vegetable of the same price, saying we couldn't order the set. Seemed rather disingenuous. On a Sunday evening they had sold out of quite a few dishes. Coconut rice - 5 stars Beef rendang - 4 stars Good flavour but beef was dry. Fuyong omelette - 4 stars Standard. Sambal petai - 2 stars Incredibly bitter and sour. I charitably tried to liken it to blue cheese, but honestly it was too difficult to eat. Wouldn't order this again.

A weekday dinner We ordered about 8 dishes for four of us. I find the kangkong portion to be very small, rest of dishes are good. The desserts though reasonable at $1.50 each, can be improved with finer shaved ice and more coconut milk.

Nice peranakan restaurant nestled in a quiet private estate. The fact that it was full house even at 1.30pm when located away from the crowd was testament of the good tasty food they serve. Every dish was flavourful and authentic, and everything was reasonably priced.

Ouch. Looks like the 2024 GST pricing has set in, with some menu items jumping up 20% to 2X. Some serving sizes have gone larger (esp the desserts), but somehow the portions feel less. The egg omelet dish was remarkably thinner. Yes, it is still the yummy peranakan fare that we keep returning for. But at these new prices, it will cause us to now compare with other upmarket places, for future decisions to wet our crave. For this location, still limited parking, but you can still park at the houses side roads and take a short walk. The staff are splendidly attentive.

Nestled in a slightly less accessible location along Binjai Park, the establishment offers a sumptuous array of traditional Peranakan flavours. Find your favourite dishes such as Ayam Buah Keluak, Babi Pongteh, Nonya Chap Chye, and many more! Prices are affordable too! Don't need to worry about breaking the piggy-bank to have a small celebration there. The establishment accepts reservations, and you can make one to guarantee yourself a seat if you have a special event. Service staff are generally attentive, and most would greet you with a megawatt smile. Overall, it is a place where I come back to experience flavours akin to my late grandmother's cooking. And I will continue to patronise them whenever I make a trip down memory lane.

Valuable place for peranakan food. Lunch set, beef redang was abit hard to bite(see video). 1 big piece but no taste. Peanuts n ikan blis is not crunchy. Lunch Set comes with dessert cost$7.5. Free drink water. There are 2 locations kovan n bukit timah.

I think the portion of the food is quite small and of course price is not expensive. If you want bigger portion you have to upgrade. I came here a few times and what I like is the Peranakan craving fix, ambience is family friendly… some dishes is a “hit” like their “soup” and “omelette” what i doesn’t like is the curry that is always hot from the “ gravy” meat is still “cold” inside. Need to ask them to reheat. Rendang meat is super tough and Chicken is okay.. is decent. Will give 3 stars.

Ivin's is one of the oldest peranakan restaurants here. I was introduced to the Upper Thomson branch in the late 80s/early 90s, and only started frequenting the branch at Binjai Park about a decade ago. Personally, I find that most of the popular nonya dishes have a home cooked feel, and are mostly tasty. My all time favourite is their Bakwan Kepiting Soup, simple, wholesome and delicious. The sambal belacan looks home-made and is shiok! Compared to the other upscale peranakan restaurants, this is still worth it.

Decent dining area. Parking is limited. Service delivery is fast 10/10. It was 7:45 pm & they ran out of chap chye 😩 and sweet potato leaves 😩 The pong tahu is 9.5/10 👍🏼 The ayam tempura is not quite how we remember it but one of us liked it. Syeur lodeh is well prepared but again the flavour is unfamilar. The ngoh hiang is good 9/10. The fried spinach also good 8/10. Chendol is 9/10. Might come back again in the near future to try the many other dishes Ivins had to offer 9/10.

It’s okay at best, not sure why it’s so popular. My parents ate in silence with minimal feedback which was very tragic because mealtimes for us are a whole affair. Prices are more than reasonable and definitely feels comforting in the way most home-cooked meals are for Singaporeans - but we found that most of the dishes lacked a little *something* so that was indeed disappointing. The Honey Pork was good and I think that was about it, since they also ran out of Nasi Kuning (coconut rice) for the day. Beef Rendang was tough, and the Buah Keluak tasted better in my memory. The Mutton is worth a try for those who like their gamey meat - it’s not bad and definitely way more tender than the beef or chicken. Didn’t even taste anything apart from the egg for the Chye Poh Omelette // Hee Peow Soup had a generous amount of ingredients for $7.20 // Nyonya Chap Chye is subjective to the diner’s tastebuds. All the desserts were not too sweet (both good and bad because I found myself appreciating that it went down easier after a full meal, but at the same time it lacked the gelat-ness I so-craved from a solid bowl of Peranakan dessert). Ondeh Ondeh was kinda toned down as we felt there was not enough gula melaka. TLDR; a lacking meal but it was $80 for 5 big eaters so okay la not too bad?

  • 4/5 David L. 7 months ago on Google
Pretty decent peranakan food. Penang CKT portion is very little for the price and lacks wok hei but the 2 big and fresh prawns sort of made up for it. The nasi kuning (lemak) set is not bad. Desserts are at $1.50 with matching portion.

This is a family restaurant with reasonably priced dishes. They also sell good Nonya Kueh, though it’s not on the menu. They place it near the cashier. Sometimes the waitress may bring some round for you to consider.

Had 3 dishes for 2 pax! Babi Pongteh, Udang Sambal and Terong Goreng Chilli. The udang sambal are deshelled so it makes eating prawns a lot neater! Not much a fan for the Babi pongteh, a tad sweet for me, but my partner love it! The pork belly was the gelatinous cut. It is soft and tender, kinda melts in the mouth. Their coconut nasi was definitely flavourful! Ended the meal with the coconut jelly. Would love to try the Bobo Cha Cha or Chendol next time. The jelly is a mouthful of coconut milk. The service crew would come in between our meals with a lil basket full of snacks and push for some sales. (A lil like Hong Kong style??) Personally would prefer if they come by at the end of the meal, so the dining experience doesn’t get disrupted 😇 but all in all, it was a good! 😋

The restaurant offers good quality Peranakan food at affordable prices, I love coming here to get my Peranakan fix. It gets crowded in the weekends and during dinners so it might be good to call ahead and reserve if possible. I recommend trying the Ayam Buah Keluak and the durian chendol they are my personal favourites

Placed an order for today, 10th May 2020, delivery 12.45pm to 1.15pm.... its 2.07pm no sign of them. Called their number nobody picks up, called binjai park branch to ask for help but no call back. Keep calling both branches but now numbers engaged. If late they should call. Really bad service!

we always eat here on special occasions, food is good, but the service is lacking. Today we experienced it fully, on mother's day of all days. Placing an order at 12 in the afternoon hoping to eat some nice food for mother's day. But they forgot to give us a number and forgot to make our food. Now we have to go elsewhere and my brother waited an hour before he was told. So take it as it is, its good but there are areas for improvement.

The restaurant has been here for years and for a good reason. The food is very reasonably priced and of high quality. You can get a delicious set lunch of Nasi Lemak with beef or chicken rendang cooked really tender, a slice of egg omelette, ikan bilis sambal and fish cake Lemak, served with a dessert for $7. They are generous with the portion and while they state that each serving is meant for two persons, there are four pieces of everything and definitely more than enough for two. Coming here is like paying a visit to the past. It's wonderful that the quality of the food has remained the same all these years.

Great place for Nyonya and Peranakan food. Most of their dishes come in small portions. Pricing is pretty affordable as well. Do expect to queue if you are going there for dinner. It gets crowded around 6pm and you might need to wait for a long time. But it’s worth the wait!

My childhood favourite restaurant. Awesome Peranankan food at incomparable prices. We never leave unsatisfied at Ivins. Some of the must tries are Ayam Bua Keluak, Honey Pork, Chili Pomfret, Papaya Titek. The desserts are a sweet finish, and at $1.40, probably cheaper than at far inferior places. 5 Stars for Ivins without a doubt.

Good peranakan food at affordable prices. Their chicken rendang, beef rendang, assam fish curry and many more dishes are consistently good. Super cheap dessert at only $1.4 per serving. Service is average but tend to be slow when crowded. Parking at front of shop is usually full. Need to find alternatives within the estate. Just be careful to park legally or you can be assured of a ticket.

Great place for a quick catch up with your close friends and yet you don't have to break your wallet. Portion isn't very big. Enough for one person. So, if you're going with your friends or family members, you have to order more dishes.

We enjoyed everything we ordered here! Will definitely return. We especially appreciate that all dishes, unless otherwise stated, are made for 1-2pax portion (with an option to upsize for some popular dishes). This makes it easy for couples or small group to order a variety of dishes without food wastage. Price is also on the economical side considering how expensive most peranakan restaurants charge. Would’ve given it 5 stars if not for the poor crowd management. There’s no system in place to manage the influx of diners , especially evident during peak hours. Diners who have made reservations are standing around the place without a designated staff to manage their reservations too. This leaves walk-in customers wondering if someone is just jumping queue ahead of them. Other than poor crowd mgmt, this restaurant is great!

Great value restaurant. The taste might not the best, but consider as above average and together with the price it is worth to visit. It is 10mins walk away from MRT which is not too far, but need some time to reach.

Each dish is relatively small serves about 3-4pax. There were 6 of us and we ordered about 10 dishes which is WAY TOO MUCH. All the food looks very meh but it's very delish and yummy. All of the dishes were PACKED with flavor! I would suggest skipping the dessert. Would give 5 stars if they removed desserts from their menu. They were bad.

    1. Parking is a major pain. 2. Tried the beef rendang today and found it a bit on the tough side, which wasn't what I had expected (had it a few weeks back and I was hooked). 3. The ayam rempah is definitely worth a try, but might be a bit on the salty scale. 4. Egg furong isn't worth any consideration. 5. Honey pork is way over on the sugar today ( to the extent it's a bit bitter). Can't sense the honey nor the sweetness of the pork, and it's tough. Totally unlike what I had a few weeks back. 6. Order the nasi guning. It's definitely more aromatic than simple nasi. 7. The sweet potato leaves cooked with sweet potato in coconut gravy missed my mark. It's not yucky, but the fusion of the gravy with the sweet potato leaves just leave me confused. Would be way better with sambal. 8. If you are into nyonya food and miss the home cooked favour, this is where you go. Nothing more, nothing less.

Concept here is a little unique, you are recommended from the start to order more dishes as the portions are small. Even though there are constant reminders about the portion size, I still can't get over the fact of how "over expensive" some item looked when served. Example would be the honey pork at 6+ SGD but serving size looked like something of a complimentary starter instead of a main. Claypot dishes are closer to quantity expectations. Quality wise is definitely above average, so worth going back for second visit. Desserts, though, can be avoided. Ordered chendol and bo bo cha cha, none left an impression.

100% authentic Peranakan food. Food comes in small servings and are reasonably priced, so order away - 2 dishes a person is reccommended. Total price per person is between 10 to 15. Food is really really good. Fish head curry and beef rendang may just be the best dishes. Of course, please order the simple vege dishes and end off with a desert for the full experience. Restaurant is busy, expect a 10 to 15mins wait to get in and a similar additional wait for the food. The place can get noisy because of the enclosed space and number of guests it can fit. A great place overall for a meal with friends and family but not too good for a date - unless you really crave Peranakan food!

Food is delicious and served in claypots and are delivered quite fast for the number of customers in the restaurant. There are long queues during peak hours so do make a reservation beforehand.
