Beautiful reserve. Nice easy family friendly trails are available. Access to the water, and nice well kept camp sites and RV park.

I took my phone so my photos didnt end up to good. I enjoyed going there and seeing all the animals. Next to every different area has something with information about the animals you will see in that overall area. If you are a photographer or even someone looking for something to do with their off time I would suggest going here and getting some pictures of the animals. Hope you have a nice day!

My wife and I visited for the first time today, and we loved the place immediately. So many water birds, and the little hiking trail was fun and has great views over the water.

This is such a great family trail! It's short,(about 2 miles total) out and back. It's circles a lake and it's just simple and pretty. There is a little gazebo and bench at the half way point. Perfect for a family with kids to stop and have lunch. Kids as young as 3 or 4 could easily do this. A couple could easily head here with a stroller and enjoy a nice walk. Lots of birds and wildlife to see.

This is a super lovely spot for wildlife viewing, bird watching, native plants, walking, or just being out in nature. I have seen cottontail rabbits here, turtles, toads, heard bullfrogs and oh so many different species of lovely birds as well. Early morning is in my experience the best time to go if you want to see living creatures. The main trail is paved and easy walking. You could absolutely take children here, it's stroller friendly if you need one. My six and four year olds have really enjoyed it and had no trouble.

Just out riding around and found this beautiful area with good views from a absolutely beautiful observation deck. There are many plaques noting contributors and it's just another out of the way nature spot worth a look.

This is worth the visit if you're into bird watching and listening to their lovely songs. We sat at a viewing deck and listened for over an hour and totally destressed!

Enjoy the "outdoor equipment." The CEA teachers' organization chose to "honor" the 30+ years of service of local middle school science teacher Susan Shelton upon retirement. The family had suggested a bench with her name here, but apparently the preserve folks "don't do that." Instead, they were happy to accept random money with no recognition for the person or purpose of the donation except as "outdoor equipment." So enjoy the heck out of any random equipment you encounter, and I hope my mom feels more appreciated in retirement than she was in the overloaded classes she kept asking the school administrators to split. Absolutely shameful, and it'll be hard for me personally to walk the beautiful trail at the preserve in future.

I can't rave enough about this place. It's just so amazing to get back outside. I've seen deer, porcupine, loads of birds from pelicans to osprey to egrets and so much more. Only complaint is people, pack up your trash!!! And hey, next time we're fishing day hi. Don't be a stranger, nature is everyone's home. πŸ₯°

Nice smaller refuge with a neat indoor blind for viewing the lake. Sorry that the Visitors Center was closed due to Covid. I wonder if that was more of a staffing need.

Most of the pathway is paved. If you want to do it as a loop, you might need the all trails app on your phone, as the loop part is not obvious.

Serene and beautiful, the refuge is a symphony of bird calls and birds. We came midday when it was quite hot but there were plenty of waterbirds and passerines, including red wing blackbirds and yellow headed blackbirds

Blinds are nice, second week of duck hunting and ducks were still plentiful, easy check in. Bring a cart, some walks to the blind are long.

The project manager for the USFWS, at the educational building is totally a creep. Can definitely hear it in his monotonous voice when he speaks. This guy just carry’s himself in a very off-set and noticeable way. Wouldn’t recommend for school trips and in my opinion, wouldn’t recommend it for anyone since the center seems to be lacking activities, professional landscaping, and lack of upkeep

Peaceful. Educational.Staff was very polite & friendly. She offer me more information of the area and upcoming events. I would have loved that they would have more promo for walks because since there was not a lot of people it was a litttle scary just doing the hike with my girl. I would totally go back but with more people.

Thank you so much for being Johnny on the spot when people are in need of help with our wildlife. Dan and Ailene, where so helpful and caring to come out to help with an owl we thought we needed help with, but thank gosh it flew away. But thank you so much, guys, for the FAST response time! Thanks for doing what you do, and you're more than highly recommended!!!

This federal land is good for water fowl, not great for upland which is what I hunt. The feds do no allow released Pheasents on their land, which is as stupid as any government idea ever. And their management of grasses and other cover is none existent. It could be so much better, but i did give it a 4.
