This place has the rudest customer service I have ever experienced in Burlington. As a young professional, I am appalled by the way I was treated by both bartenders this afternoon. I was on Church Street this afternoon around four, so thought I would go check out their "Duff" hour that I have heard about from some friends. I went in not fully understanding how their system works, so I observed what other people were doing to get a beer. Not only was I yelled at and scolded by the male bartender, but the female bartender continued to ignore me and help others around me. After standing at the bar for a few minutes, she decided to then assist me when no one else was around. I handed her a dollar and she rudely rolled her eyes and stated that "everyone else was handing her two dollars instead of one" (which is probably the reason why she did not want to help me in the first place). It is a shame that an establishment keeps employees that act this way toward their consumers. If I were management, I wound not hesitate to find replacements, especially reading countless negative reviews about the same issue below. I guarantee it is the same two employees as well. Thank you Three Needs for your lovely hospitality, this will be my first and last time as a customer in your establishment.

I was racially profiled and denied entrance. I had a valid ID, but still, the bouncer refused to accept it. Me and my family will NEVER do business here, again. At the immediate moment I felt like suing for discrimination, but it’s not worth my time/money. Plenty of other establishments like this, around the area. If you can, I suggest to skip it. Or just get pizza from the window.

The female bartender needs to be fired, no where in my 24 years as a person have I been told to tip by front of house or someone in the food service industry. After getting off of my own food service position (Where I’m not getting tips on 20$+ tabs) I’m being told to tip on a ONE DOLLAR tab. First bad bar experience, and apparently there’s a reputation. “Always appreciated, Never expected” is how you regard tips- someone in the service industry

When I explain what sets Three Needs apart from other bars in town my response is always something to the extent of; Three Needs is the bar you go to when you're looking to enjoy yourself, have a great time with or w/o friends, and Not have to deal with the "typical bar nonsense" people think of when they think of bars in general. It is an atmosphere intentionally cultured that can only remind you, if you're familiar with it, of the tv show Cheers. Everyone is welcome & the only thing staff really asks of their patrons is respect. Respect of the bar, respect of the staff, and most importantly respect of fellow patrons. Obviously people aren't perfect, they make mistakes, and staff would be included. That said, it's sad to see these 1 star reviews from people based on 1 particular experience. Given how tolerant staff at Three Needs tends to be I'm willing to bet that most of the 1 star reviews are from patrons, whom while drinking, crossed some line and it was addressed by staff. The result being them lashing out via a review instead of owning poor behavior. I highly recommend anyone new to the area, or just visiting, to stop in and see for yourself. There is a reason this bar is consistently nominated for every bar related category, with zero self promotion at that, when the local 7 Days "Daisy" awards come around. And I believe they have won at least 1 category every year since moving to Pearl Street. In any event, here's to stopping in and forming an opinion of your own based on your visit.

I'm vacationing in Burlington from the midwest and the woman at the door checking ID's said mine looked fake, so I wasn't allowed in. She seemed under the influence. I'm 31 and this is a first for me.

If you want to relax and have a good beer in a local spot, it's the best bar in Burlington. They haven't made their own beer since they moved from there old spot on Church St, but it'll be back someday. If you're at duff hour, tip a dollar per beer, don't feel like you can avoid tipping because the beer is a buck. If you missed duff, still tip a buck per beer, the bartenders work their asses off and are awesome people. Don't be a cheap bastard. Otherwise, great pool tables and patio, the Frank Loyd Wright room is the best kept secret in Burlington, and the Pizza Cube makes the best slice of any bar in town (tip them too, they deserve it). Be awesome to the needs, and it will be awesome to you.

Seating was limited; good thing my date didn't mind eating pizza and drinking while we stood off to the side. But the pizza is always schweet.

Pizza guy is a trashy individual with the lowest character. Continued to complain that he was the only guy in the city making food and started refusing customers around 12pm. Honestly disgraceful, threatened to call security. Hire new help and get this guy out

I have never seen such a racist bar in this town. They hate foreigners! Foreigners are not welcome in Vermont. I wish our people treat them the same when they visit us! Very disappointed! Pathetic. They give no reason for not letting you in ! The bar tender keep ignoring the foreigners and make them wait for longer and embarrass them by showing they they don’t understand our English. Racist bar

Great Beer Selection and duff beer is 1.00 a pint till they run out 4-5pm which is pretty magical. They have some great seating and pool tables inside also. Even when they are busy the staff is super nice.

Three needs is a nice roomy bar with plenty of seating and standing room. They have a great selection and the staff is usually fast and friendly. The door guys are also friendly and make you feel welcome. They have two pool tables and a really nice outdoor seating area that is fenced in and creates a really warm atmosphere especially in the summer and fall months. They also have good pizza by the slice available by the front door, eat it while you are there drinking or grab a slice on your way out the door.

Great service, excellent pizza, good times playing pool. The bartenders were particularly fantastic to us out-of-towners. Recommend asking what the Three Needs are.

Best bar in town, hands down. Also give the bar in the historic Frank Lloyd Wright room in the back a shot, open weekends with Dana (who is just a darling) slingin drinks like a g

Great bar but the pizza sucks. The drinks compensate and make it taste okay. The atmosphere and backyard are among the best in the city.

I love three needs, the pizza staff are the best people, the pizza is the best pizza, duff hour is amazing. The beer is great. Unfortunately one of the male bartenders with black hair is consistently very rude every time my friends and I come here. Customer service is important. I’ll continue to come here since I love it, but he could be more courteous to his patrons. Edit 2 years later: Still issues with rude bartending staff, pizza staff and food are still incredible. Unfortunately, they added a roof to the outdoor area and now it's a cigarette hotbox. Absolutely vile.

We love the fun atmosphere, beers and pizza, but wish they'd go back to showing more movies and animation on the TV screens. Great pizza options and good selection of beer.

Loud crowded bar experience, which is what is expected I think. Great layout and was great to hangout until the music made it to loud to carry a normal conversation.
