I've had to edit my reciew left last year, from good experiences we used to have to a nightmare evening. Visited on Wednesday night, wasn't even very busy, but the kitchen is a big disappointment. First, we ordered the king scallops and we had a very small one, than when we mentioned to the girl who cleaned the plates she didn't seem to understand what we were talking about, may be she doesn't know the menu but that's fine, then the filet steak was supposed to be medium rare, they sent it rare, so they sent it back and was told they're cooking a new one, my husband had to wait 25 min for a medium rare steak, 25 min!!! Happy we didn't ask for a well done steak. And still had it rare one more time, but he was hungry so had to eat it and by time he had his steak my burger was cold so I've left half of it. The restaurant staff were really nice and helpful shame that the kitchen gives them the stress they have to deal with unhappycustomers. The assistant manager offered a dessert wich was much appreciated but we would rather enjoy our dishes, it was our first night out since we had a baby, just a shame

Lovely spot for an afternoon tea overlooking the spa. The selection of savoury was perfect with a soup and shepherds pie alongside the sandwiches and cakes. Staff are so friendly and professional.

Amazing service, brilliant food. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Staff were friendly, polite and attentive. Food was absolutely spot on, the black garlic chicken was amazing. Sadly, in a totally isolated incident one drunken neanderthal was creating a scene in the restaurant, though the management handled it incredibly well and he was clearly encouraged to leave once eaten. Will absolutely be visiting again. Would recommend.

The wife and I really liked this place although it is a strange mix of informal, casual v smart and expensive. Access is via a very slow lift up to the first floor. The view from the windows overlook the outdoor spa which is a bit distracting. Also it's the only access and exit for those using the spa, they have to walk through the middle of the dining room but it's not an issue for most tables. This means the lift can be very be busy. These issues aside, the food and service was excellent, perhaps a bit slow when busy, but definitely worth waiting for. Quite expensive but they do have some reasonable midweek offers.

Absolutely amazing experience in this restaurant. Called to make a reservation and was immediately asked about any dietary requirements which were catered to from start to finish. Atmosphere was calm and inviting even considering it was a Friday night. Couldn't fault the service and the food was to die for. Highly recommend.

Along with 30 plus colleagues, I had my retirement meal here last week. The food was excellent, the service brilliant and as an unexpected bonus, they gave the 3 people who were leaving a firework cake and beautifully decorated plate! Well done to all of the staff, you made my evening extra special, thank you.

Well we thought we'd booked in to Wilfred's but when we arrived there they said we'd booked Bertram's. It didn't matter as it's only a couple of minutes walk and actually turned out to be in our favour as I'd expected to pay about £140 in Wilfred's but the Bertram's Thursday 'deal' - which was truly outstanding, halved that. The service was excellent, decent Sauvignon Blanc wine upgrade, super starters and marvellous mains (receipt added to this review). Very happy and currently planning a midweek trip to the hotel spa :-)

Lovely experience with attentive staff, great atmosphere and modern elegant decor. I had the pan-seared seabass for mains and chocolate and berries for dessert, both were beautifully presented and tasted delicious.

If you want to know what a food is supposed to taste like, try it here. --- Update July 2023 Regularly enjoy the seasonal rosette menu and tried nearly everything the restaurant has to offer. It is still the reference for the best that food can be. However they did recently change the baked alaska which has been their staple dessert for the last decade. It was soft lemon zest ice-cream that was to die for and the flagship item of the menu offerings. It has been replaced with an icy acrid chocolate sponge with a burning liquor which pales in comparison.

Lovely hotel restaurant .. but the choice is a little limited... a little expensive, too ... great attentive staff ...

We ate there on Tuesday evening. The food was delicious, and we have no axe to grind with that. What we took exception to was that we ordered a bottle of wine with our meal, had to ask for it four times before it eventually arrived and then, only after we had finished our meal. Not good enough! Your junior staff need training in how to serve properly and communicate with your customers. Their lack of skills in both areas smacks more of a burger joint than a supposed high quality restaurant.

The reception was very slow .not many in but a few from the spa .took ages to be seated as a couple didn't know were or how to book in . The young girl did look after us was great .food top notch .plenty of staff doing nothings at times .needs improvement . If your charging top priced food the reception need improvement

The experience of eating here does not reflect the cost. Firstly, the entire restaurant is full of people in swimming costumes with flip flops and dressing gowns because they've come from the spa which, if I'd known this was a thing, I wouldn't have visited. Secondly, the staff are incredibly inattentive, 2 separate people offered to get us water for the table and didn't. In the end we had to go up to the counter to ask for some for a third time before we actually got it. The prices on the menu don't include VAT so you pay over £10 for a mocktail and the food was very average. The bill came to £97 in total for 3 people for starters, main and drinks. Definitely not worth it and I won't be coming again.

Me and my partner came here for our birthdays. The food was amazing, so flavourful and I can’t believe how much duck I got for a starter! Not only was the food amazing but the staff were all super friendly and welcoming. Would definitely come here again

Perfect for a special occasion. There is lots of food choice and all of us enjoyed every bite. I recommend the duck! I’d say the only down side is the staff, they’re lovely but quite young and don’t always know the right thing to do things efficiently

My husband and I celebrated our anniversary, a wonderful dinner night. We got a window seat on prior request, it was beautiful to look out to sunset. Food was delicious and thoroughly enjoyed from starters to mains to dessert! Service was 5*. Definitely recommend and we ll be back soon!

Absolutely fantastic. It had been a while since I last went but lived up to previous visits. The lamb shank was perfect, fell straight off of the bone as it should. I've no idea what they did to the vegetables but were some of the best I have had. The waiting staff were fantastic, took quite a while to get our bill at the end of the night but was no problem as it was a group of us an we were chatting away anyway. There's plenty of space between tables so no real need for partitions which creates a nice atmosphere. Hand sanitiser at various points around the building an made you feel very at ease given the circumstances. All of the group said they would happily return an I couldn't have asked for a better first evening that we've all been out for dinner since lockdown. The only issue we had was some of our party that arrived a little later had some difficulties finding the entrance, I'm unsure if this was just them but perhaps some slightly better signage wouldn't go a miss. All in all, a great night. 5 star.

Great food and brilliant atmosphere

I’ll preface this by saying I don’t often do fine dining, but this was for an anniversary! The food was really nice overall but I felt like my main in particular was a slight let down. Got 12 chips, some cabbage, and 2 small pieces of duck for £24. I wouldn’t have minded the price if there was slightly more on the plate, even just more chips! And not necessarily stacked like edible jenga! Every other part of the meal was really good though and the service was exceptional and friendly

Loved it here. Visited on a Friday evening for something to eat and cocktails. Drinks beautiful and food was delicious. The atmosphere nice and relaxing. All the staff were polite and courteous. Will definitely be back

Pricey average food. It was a nice place with lovely staff but not worth the money. Although the food was nice, it could have come from anywhere, the only difference being it was presented differently.

The staff are excellent and cocktails are delicious, I found it a little strange having a lot of people in bathrobes that had come from the spa itself but I'll be aware next time.

Came here after a day at the spa. Staff were attentive and service was good. Nice ambience in a very cool interior. The food, however, didn’t match the quality of the interior and service. We had the 2 for 1 burger offer and the vegetarian option was better than the meat option. For a list price of £17.00 I would have expected way better. Like an epic gourmet burger. Instead the beef was bland and overcooked and you are expected to pay an extra £1.50 for cheese 🤔 😂. And all it came with was lettuce and a slice of tomato with the patty. Oh, and pepper sauce, like the stuff you get with a steak. I mean, what are they thinking serving a burger with a steak sauce? Baffling. TBH I’ve had better burgers at Wetherspoons for half the price. The chips were pretty decent. Very similar to the fries at Five Guys. We considered having a dessert but were told that the brownie doesn’t look anything like the photos on Google reviews any more, (which looks spectacular BTW). I’m guessing there’s maybe been a change of chef or something. So gave the desserts a miss. The meal was somewhat disappointing after such a lovely day at the spa.

Booked a meal with 3 friends and paid the £10 deposit each. Unfortunately one of our party became ill on the day and lost her £10 deposit as it was within the 24 hour ruling. We explained this to the manager but we're told this is policy. I have visited many restaurants over the years and eat out quite often and have never been asked for a deposit for a table of '4'. In today's climate I feel the loss of £10 for something out of my friends control put a damper on our experience and for that reason we will not visit again.

We went last night 02/09 - arrived 10 minutes earlier than booked and was seated straight away. Immediately the waiters greeting us and explaining the menus and recommending dishes and wine. The food as always was brilliant and the views from our table made it even better. 10/10 for me.

Food was probably more pub standard than fine dining. The stroganoff sauce was quite weak, and the rice was slightly undercooked. Service wasn't too bad but we wasn't offered another drink until we caught their attention to ask. Overall, it was alright but not in a rush to go back.

Visited using the Eat Out to Help Out scheme on a Wednesday which really doesnt make much [of a saving] difference here as its not 'pub grub' pricing. Bertram's is certainly worth a little extra. The place was full but running like a finely oiled machine. My sence of delight, after some thought, was down to the sense of normality I havent experienced since March. Table spacing had been increased but otherwise business as normal. We had all three courses with wine and beer by the glass. Mains were Lobster and King Prawn Thai Curry and Monkfish. Both excellent, with subtle flavours emerging as we ate. Service was top notch - we were neither pestered nor kept waiting. Overall an enjoyable and relaxing evening!

Lovely food and outstanding service. I was nervous about going out to eat with the situation with the pandemic and local lock downs as im in the vulnerable category. However I had no need to worry. Social distancing measures in place and stuck to. I really enjoyed the evening. It was nice to see so many people out (be it at a distance) and there was a good atmosphere. Would recommend.

Very high class restaurant. Beautiful inside and if you have a window seat you can look out at the spa. The food is to die for, beautifully cooked every time I've been. The only thing is be prepared to see people eating in dressing gowns from the spa

Lovely spa day and the food was delicious. It was the rainiest day of the year and with our bath roads on the restraunt it could have been a little warmer but the sea bream was wonderful. Had a lunch with the family on another day which was very nice prawn and salmon salad, great portions but would like to see a but more lettuce and a bit less rocket. Loved the atmosphere and the staff were helpful.

So this is Burnley?. What a great place let it surprise you if you haven't been. Food is fantastic, drinks choice expansive , service attentive and atmosphere perfect. Oh yes and outside its like being in a secluded spa (that's next door).

I was totally amazed by this place. The food quality was first class, possibly the best meal I have ever had and was not overpriced. Usually you get quality or quantity at restaurants but Bertrams gave us both, very generous portions of delicious food. There was loads of choice on the menu I would love to try all the dishes! The service was so fast and efficient despite being busy with every table occupied. We completed all 3 courses within an hour! I was so impressed I wanted to leave a bigger tip but regrettably did not bring enough cash with me. Could not fault anything at all and I would love to return some day.

Dined here on second night of a Travelzoo deal. Staff were unaware of 10% discount and manager appeared reluctant to accept, possibly because we were taking advantage of the Thursday £22 "Dining Club" offer. That said, the meal itself was delicious, but still would not return.

Good food...nice atmosphere...service slow...had to keep reminding staff we were waiting for drinks...courses...condiments....

Service was mostly ok food was awful. Smoked salmon linguine, hardly any smoked salmon and covered in too much too spicy sauce. My worst 2 meals have been at Bertrams just because of the food. Terrible.
