The park has had good flood defences put in, which make the park more interesting. Now lockdown is over, the fields are in use with the footballers again. There are tennis courts open and playgrounds for young & older children. One can walk down to the river - but not fit or safe to go into (not recommended for safety reasons anyway with a danger of drowning). It is a nice park. It is near the very old centre of Radcliffe, with the medieval Manor and 12th century church to walk round.

Great place to wander and rewind. Loads of diversity, River Irwell to one side and flowers trees all over. Interesting to see the flood defences in place and read about the areas history. There is a well equipped play area to occupy the kids. Well worth a visit.

They can change the name from Close Park to Pesticide Park! Shame on those who manage this area that is struggling to continue to be green... Dying trees, no birds.. they could use some plastic one and artificial green!

Love this well maintained park. Not too big but big enough to have a nice stroll around, plenty of benches. Great childrens playground. Couple of things to mention...no toilets.....sensory garden needs sorting.

Close Park is a delightful area of sculpted land and wilderness. The land originally belonged to the Bealey Family who donated it to the public. There's a wonderful children's play area, a sensory garden, a huge field to walk dogs and there's also the ruins of Radcliffe Tower.

More can be done to keep the park litter free and additional dog poo bins on the field walkway area would help.

Nice park and recently renovated tennis court looks great. It's a shame that despite been finished months ago it's still locked. Is council waiting for winter to open it up? I Wonder how many people will use it in the future as you have to pay for using it as well. Was not public monies used for doing it up in the first place?

Nothing amazing, but always a pleasant walk. A shame that they’ve had to create the mound as a flood defence however doesn’t effect the nice walks available. Good to take kids on the playground for a short day out.

Close park offers great walks and a massive field to play in. You can spend all day there if you bring the right belongings.

Good park. Playgrounds are well equipped for both younger and older children (mine are 5,6 and 10). Clean and tidy. A few bits of dog poo but that's the owners faults. Lots of Hogweed on the walk near the river but there are signs up.

If you ever visit Radcliffe /Bury then you might want to visit this large Park with a wall entrance and car park before you wonder around the lush grounds filled with lovely colourful flowers and the smells that you get from them is just devine. I grew up in Radcliffe and this park has changed a lot since when I was younger as back then there were birds in averies and ducks walking freely, now there's only a small children's play area and a bowling green and a place to play football with goal posts and a very newly built tennis court that is locked up at night. It's a nice place to walk your dog or to sit and relax in on a nice sunny day.

I love this park, well kept and clean. The dogs get a great walk and most of the people are extremely friendly.

Good place to walk dogs and take children to the park. Also has football fields, tennis court and basketball court. There are riverside and forest trails but the riverside trail can get quite overgrown at times and now there is a lot more hogweed starting to grow in accessible areas (there is a lot over the other side of the river but this is not part of the park) so you need to be careful when in that particular area.

Park is very limited and the toddler park seems a bit to dangerous my 3 year old fell through the bars because he was to small for it

Pleasant walk plenty to see with hidden gems. Busy well thought out play area for little people. Wide areas of playing fields for football, tennis courts and a exercise area with equipment. Ducks paddled with their young in clean clear water and hidden entrances to a forest /glade adventure for the explorer. Enjoyed the artwork but wish the fountain could be brought back to life.

Very impressed! Spent a lovely autumn afternoon here with the children, great playparks for smaller and older children too, had a great walk in the woods, very clean, no litter, looks like a great place for making dens. We will definitely be back!

We've been using this park for nearly 5 years and in that time it has gone down hill. The toilets were locked up a few years back, never been reopened. Now they've started on the "flood defences", which so far has involved cutting down lots of mature trees and doing very little else. This used to be a lovely park, now parts of it resemble a wasteland.

We love it here. There are 2 play areas, tennis courts, large fields and a picnic area. Plus you can try a spot of den building in the woods. People who visit keep it clean, which definitely adds to it being a great place to visit. The outdoor gym is fun too.

A nice place for a stroll although years ago there was a cafe which now seems closed.2 play areas for different age groups and a tennis court.More recently an outside gym has been added.Great idea. There is however aloft of work being done here for flood defences but workman very happy to explain. Did go off the main path for a walk that bordered the river.Really lovely.Would give the children abit of an adventure but beware- masses of what appeared to be giant hog weed.Dangerous to humans and animals so bathed the dog just to be safe.

What a beautiful at one with nature oasis to take you away from the rat race of everyday life! A vibrant park filled with activities from running, playing football to simply walking your dog around. It boasts a tuck shop in the summer, wildlife and lots of things for kids to do. I love the atmosphere it creates itself. My favourite little park in Bury

Close Park is a great park but at the moment there is a lot of renovation work happening which I'm sure is going to leading to some exciting changes.

Ongoing work to fortify the floor barrier. Can still access park facilities but not the field near the river.

We were there to watch junior football matches.Great deal of digging over the footpaths and pitches has caused very difficult muddy conditions.. Pitch we used was poorly maintained and badly cut. All the digging had caused a plague of insects and several of our party were badly bittern and had to attend hospital to deal with these bites. Due to the amount of work being done the car parks were taken up by workmen's huts etc so leaving very little parking spaces. All in all something of a nightmare visit.

Nice park but flood defence work going on has closed some parts

  • 3/5 Jakob W. 3 years ago on Google
Was a great park until the flood defence was put right through the middle. Since the flood defence was built a lot of the tress and wooded areas have been taken away and the park has been split into two distinct areas. A poor decision from the environment agency and Bury Council as to how the flood defence was designed.

Could do with a revamp, better playground for the older ones, more climbing frame equipment.... Maybe when I win the lottery I'll do that.
