OM Hostel is beautifully located right on the shore of Bunyonyi Lake, providing stunning views and a peaceful atmosphere. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by Joseph, who was incredibly attentive, kind, and always ready to help with anything we needed throughout our stay. We chose a lovely hut-style accommodation with a private balcony facing the lake, which made our mornings truly special. Getting up each day to sit on the balcony and take in the surrounding nature was amazing—so many colorful birds flew by, adding to the tranquil vibe. The lake itself was perfect for swimming, and spending time by the water during the day felt refreshing. Even the journey to and from the hostel added to the experience; on our way back, we took a wooden canoe, which was both scenic and unique, creating lasting memories. The staff consistently went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable, and our room was exceptionally clean and cozy. At night, we enjoyed looking up at a sky full of stars, a rare sight that made the place feel magical. This is truly a spot to disconnect, embrace nature, and recharge. Highly recommend for anyone looking to unwind and enjoy beautiful, peaceful surroundings.

Om Hostel is in the most beautiful location with the best people running it. I decided to make a quick stop in Bunyoni on a whim and they went above and beyond to accommodate me at the last minute. I am so grateful for the half day I got to spend on Lake Bunyoni at Om, do not hesitate to book!

Beautiful place for budget backpackers or couples that want a quiet retreat. The place is off the grid, run on solar power and lake water. The only way to access is from Kabale is first to take taxi/moto, then canoe or motorboat. The canoe is for free, takes about 40 minutes really recommend. Breakfast could definitely be bigger, and dinner prices are somewhat expensive for Ugandan standards, but not for Bunyoni standards. I recommend going up the ridge for the view over the lake, and for the trading center where you can get some cheap simple food and fruits/veggies.

We booked one night and ended up staying for 3. Our lakeside hut with it's own pier was just magical. Sitting swapping stories by the camp fire followed by a dip in the lake to gaze at the stars was a Uganda highlight. Joseph was super friendly, kind and helpful. It's worth bearing in mind it's remote and a small hostel so the menu is limited but we always ate tasty food (1 vegetarian and 1 meat eater) and if we ordered in the morning Joseph would get the food in for the evening. Great for resting, or using as a base to walk along the lake or take a tour. Highly recommend!

Staying at OM Hostel was an unforgettable experience! The rooms were spotless, comfortable, and gave me the perfect base to relax after days filled with adventure. One of the highlights was being able to dive right into the lake from the hut – an incredible way to start each day, surrounded by pure nature. Also the food here was delicious, with fresh and flavorful options at every meal. And I can’t say enough good things about Joseph and Andrew. I arrived feeling a bit unwell, and Joseph went above and beyond, offering me his special herbal tea, which truly worked wonders! Andrew was equally fantastic, always ready with advice on the best activities – thanks to him, he even managed to let me go gorilla trekking, which was a dream come true. For anyone looking for a place to unwind, reconnect with nature, and enjoy heartfelt hospitality, this is it. OM Hostel is the perfect escape, and I can’t wait to return!

We had a great time staying at OM hostel. We rented the cottage with direct lake view and really enjoyed the proximity to the lake and the quiet. Andrew and Joseph were very kind and helped us with everything we needed. They are also building a library for locals and travellers and are planning to build a museum that honors the local culture. If you're travelling there bring books to leave :)

I had a wonderful stay at the Hostel. Andrew is brilliant guy and has great dreams for the place and for his community. It's a beautiful location, great food, and absolutely perfect for anyone wanting a break from the hectic environments you encounter in other places in Uganda.

A simple, beautiful and peaceful spot on the lake. We had one of the lake front cottages for 4 nights (and after we left, we wished we'd stayed longer). It's tucked into a quiet spot on the lake, excellent swimming, good hiking/walking through the surrounding hills and villages, and lots of options for canoe rental, tours, and other activities. Exceptional bird-watching - bring your binoculars! The rooms are simple but clean and comfortable. The food is good with a mix of local and muzungu options. The staff are great and we spent evenings sharing stories around the fire. One tip: bringing snacks or other things you need is helpful because the shops are a small boat ride or hike away.
