An amazing place to go for a morning hike. The gatekeeper charges you 10 cd per person (20 in total) to get access but it is totally worth it by enjoying the view of Butre. The fort apparently collapsed not long ago and some people may tell you it is closed, but you can still go.

Unfortunately, neglected old, small fortress. You have to pay 50 GHS at the climb. You can use a makeshift railing to get up or down the slippery ground. Very nice view of the town, the bay and the mouth of the Butre River.

Steep climb to the Fort, do well to bring along good trainers in order to keep a firm grip. Tour guide available, charged 40 per person. Views from the height of the Fort are breathtaking as well.

A steep climb up to reveal insights into the works of the generation past. This Fort was established in the 1600s and played a major role in maintaining control of trade routes and the Dutch Gold Coast

The heritage site is a wonderful experience to have. The community's capacity must be built comprehensively so that the fort can be well preserved. Additionally the cultural heritage can be curated to leave lasting impressions. The natural heritage must be preserved since it is under threat due to illegal mining

The structure needs to be given a facelift…Also, a younger and more professional tour guide would do better in taking charge of the place.

The journey to Butre might be a very adventurous one. The rewards, numerous. Go there. Look for Anthony, a great guide.

Incredible overgrown. The path up is pretty much hidden by all the overgrowth. Paid 30 cedis for one person.

Definitely worth it, we paid 50 cedi for two to the chieftain or the village and - though maybe a bit pricey compared to other sites in this part of Ghana - totally worth it. Understand this price is probably a bit variable, others seems to pay less or more. Either way, a highlight of a stay in butre.

Great sight, breathtaking scenery overlooking the bay and the Butre village. On the East is a long curved coastline stretching all the way to Asemkor and beyond. On the immediate left is the Butre river which flows into the sea. I had no guide take me up the fort. Old man was accommodating and friendly. Pay 10gh-20gh cedis depending on nationality. Resorts Hideout (little/medium budget), Green Zion Garden(small budget) and Fanta's Folly (most affluent) are the resorts you can find on the beach. Lovely place to visit in April/May.

Ha! The view of the cliff from the Ruins is what you call a wonder. Nature's friggin beautiful.

  • 4/5 seb k. 7 years ago on Google
Basically an old ruin. There is not much left besides the walls, but you get to experience a breathtaking view over the bay, river and butre once you are up the hill. The fee is quite high (15-20cedi) but the view is wort it and the money goes into the community.

A good point of view for experiencing the beauty of the Butre township and the Atlantic Ocean. The dug out stairway provides easy access to the fort.
