It’s a nice place to learn about the process of tea productions. It’s cheap with entry fees of just RS10 which also includes a free tea sample at the end of the visit. There are also places to buy tea products and others such as fragrances and chocolates. If you read and watch the process in details, it’s gonna take around 1 hour for the visit. It’s beautifully located on a hill top with nice view of the ooty valley. A must visit for tea drinkers and enthusiasts. Also, nearby are adventure games such a zip lining.

"You get to see where one of your favorite drinks is made", this statement from the guide was enough to get me super hyped. One of the best places to visit in the city. Honestly just after stepping into the factory, it becomes too much for the tourist to take in especially with all the processes and information thrown to tourists at once. Awesome place, definitely recommend this place to everyone visiting Ooty.

When visiting Ooty, a trip to this place is a must. Here, visitors can witness the fascinating process of tea powder preparation and chocolate making, gaining valuable insight into the art of production. The nominal entrance fee of 30 Rs includes a complimentary chocolate, which alone makes the fee worthwhile. In addition to the educational experience, guests have the opportunity to purchase a wide variety of tea powders and chocolates, showcasing the unique flavors and options offered by the establishment. Conveniently, ample parking space is available, and there are also attached shops where visitors can shop for items like women's accessories and toys.

It’s a must visit place but don’t buy chocolate from here. For Me Tea Factory was fine. Even you don’t maintain hygiene, still you will boil the tea. It was a nice trip as you get to know the process of making tea. Chocolate factory was worst. No hygiene was followed, no gloves, no hairnet. They are scratching their head, mouth & with same hand they are making chocolates. Nowadays even a PaniPuri wala using hand gloves & such a big factory they are not using.

Pleasant experience. Great to see the manufacturing process that happens behind the tea we drink everyday. Takes around 30-40 minutes to cover the entire factory, not spread across a very large area. Ticket charges are 10 Rs./person. Can be slightly crowdy at peak hours. The end of the tour follows a fresh cup of tea offered by the personnel and a wide range of shops offering various types of tea packets - chocolate, cardamom, lemon, ginger, etc., along with other products like spices, winter wear, etc. A small chocolate factory is adjacent to it too.

The Tea Factory in Ooty offers a fascinating journey through the tea production process. This factory takes you from plucking tea leaves to the packaging of tea powder. You'll get a glimpse into the various stages of tea processing, including withering, rolling, fermentation, drying, and sorting. It's a great opportunity to learn about the different types of tea produced in the region and appreciate the art of tea making. Adjacent to the factory, the Tea Museum adds an educational and interactive dimension to your visit. Here, you'll discover the history and heritage of tea production in the Nilgiri region of Tamil Nadu. Vintage tea-making equipment, photographs, and artifacts vividly depict the evolution of tea cultivation in the area. At each stage of tea production, from withering to sorting, visitors can witness the process firsthand. The tea leaves are dried in stainless steel containers, crushed, and processed through CTC machines. Additionally, the factory offers a delightful tea-tasting experience, where you can savor a variety of flavors such as cardamom, masala, ginger, green tea, and more. Don't miss the opportunity to explore the chocolate production section, where you can witness the process of chocolate-making, from cocoa powder to molding chocolates in various shapes. You can also purchase homemade chocolates with flavors like fruits and nuts, fig and honey, raisins and nuts, milk and coffee, and even sugar-free options. The tea factory is open from 10.00 am to 6.00 pm, and the entry fee is Rs 20 per person. Additionally, if you're seeking some adventure, there's an adventure club in front of the factory where you can try exciting activities such as hiking, free fall with tied ropes, and walking on a rope.

Visited here twice the best way to publish the tea flavours around the public by sharing the taste of the fresh hot tea. They have lots of flavours in the tea which is beneficial for the health too. They also prepare the home made chocolates with different flavours. They explain the process of how they convert tea leaves in tea powder and time taken for the same. Please refer the images below tagged.

Dodabetta Tea Factory, at Coonoor, TamilNadu was founded in the year 2005, and is well managed by Mr. N.K.Krishnamoorthy, former Member of Tea Board. Factory sprawls over an area of 1 acres in Ooty the midst of the many blue hills of the Nilgiris, second largest hill station, bounded by tea plantations, at an altitude of 1839 metres. Our production capacity is 30 tonnes per month. Having about 35 years of experience in Tea field operations has passion to set a Tea Museum adjacent to the Dodabetta Tea Factory. As per his desire, he established the Tea Museum on 1 acres at Ooty.

During entry, they provide a barcoded wrist strap of paper as your identity of visitor. This bar code is then used when you purchase the tea or chocolates. They do offer the discount on reading the barcode for purchasing – 10 % or so. One can see the entire process of tea making through the glass window while walking through. It is really interesting! They explain various types of tea produced there and there qualities. Tea samples are offered for tasting.

Step by step process of tea powder extraction may be seen here. Followed by the same there is sales counter for tea items and chocolate allied items which can be purchased as per choice. There is ample car parking space in the area. The neighbourhood also houses a small adventure park which is an attraction

Best place to see the tea processing. They explain the process and history of tea displayed inside the museum. Entry fee is 10rs per adult and it's worth a visit. After visiting the tea museum and understanding the tea processing they will give a cup of tea for taste. This sample tea will be free of cost. You can see the chocolate making also. We can buy many varieties of tea, oils, chocolate, spices, woolen sweaters from here. Tea powder, oils, and spices are available at a good price and quality is also very good. The price of chocolate is a little high but the quality is very good. We can see Beautiful view of tea estates from here. They have zipline activity also. Free parking space available. Don't get diverted to another chocolate factory 'Bench mark' which is in the left side of entry gate. Highly recommended to visit if you are in Ooty.

Worth visiting. There is an entrance fee of ₹10 for above 5 years. You can see how the tea is being processed. There are some exhibitions that explains the history of tea in India from the British era. There is a pre-recorded audio that explains the manufacturing process, but no one for guidance. You will be provided with a complementary cup of tea at the exit door from the factory. Then there is an outlet to buy tea and other products. Then the way leads to a chocolate factory in the next building. The chocolates are really premium taste and not like the ordinary so-called home-made chocolate.

It was my first experience in a tea factory. The moment I stepped inside, the air was filled with the rich, earthy scent of tea leaves. It was like entering a different world dedicated to the art of tea production.Tasting freshly brewed tea straight from the factory was a highlight. The flavors were so pure and intense compared to the usual tea bags I had at home. It was a sensory experience like no other, and I couldn't resist buying some freshly packed tea to take with me.

Doddabetta Tea Factory is among the highest-elevation tea factories of the Nilgiris. The factory was started by N K Krishnamoorthy, who is also considered as an innovator in the tea industry. At the Tea museum, you will find three broad areas of Tea History viz. Origins of world tea, Tea history in India and Evolution of tea in the Nilgiris. Doddabetta tea factory also offers beautiful views of the valley, and mountain peaks. The entire site has total four sections: tea factory, museum, souvenir shops, and the chocolate factory, and it takes around 2 to 2.5 hours to explore entirely. They allow you to see the entire process of tea making and at the end they also give a cup of tea for taste. Apart from various varieties of tea, they also produces and sell varieties of chocolates (truffles, nuts), oils, spices, etc. While going out, you can see multiple sales outlets where you can buy products of your choice. You can also buy their products online by visiting their website.

Totally a new experience. For a first timer its awesome experience to see Tea making process right from Tea leaves to tea dust. One could see the actual process. You could also taste the finished Tea. One can also purchase Tea in different flavors. Though I did not find the tea which we had bought from the factory as good as they had served us as sample, still the experience was awesome. The Chocolate factory was also good. But they hardly show the actual chocolate making process. Rather you only see the staff cutting pieces of chocolate in the tray. The factory is more interesting in selling the chocolate rather than showing the chocolate making process. But again one ends up buying some thing or the other, being surrounded by so much variety.

They use orthodox manufacturing methods and while you look around the various stages of production, the guides there will fill you up with relevant information. You'll witness real workers handling leaves and how they are crushed, the difference between black, green, and oolong tea. Also you'll get to taste all of them and buy what you like. You will see the process since start from when the leaves are cut and processed to give final product as tea. Best part about this place is you can purchase tea bags, Oils and home made chocolates which are prepared in the factory. I recommend to buy Tea, oils and chocolates from The tea factory only. It's pure.

Very beautiful please. Much better than The Benchmark Tea Factory! Very nice staff! The process of tea making is very clearly visible & there is signage to explain the different steps. The chocolate room also is nice. They only show the moulding phase, but is very nice. The shops have a variety of tea leaves, chocolates & herbal oils for sale. It takes roughly about 30 to 45 mins to complete the tour (including your time at the shops). There is parking within the facility and also just beside it. There is a foot bridge for people who have parked outside. Toilet facilities (pay & use) also available.

Another name of this factory is Dodabetta Tea Factory. It is govt approved tea factory. It is adjoining to Benchmark tea factory. The entrance is quite misleading as both the factories have same entrance. So be careful. Many reviews belonging to this profile are actually for Benchmark tea factory. Here we can see entire tea making process though there isn't any guided tour. Entry is free. We can also shop here various tea varieties. The brand name for the tea sold here is Homewood. There is a chocolate production unit too. Handmade chocolates and fudge varieties are awesome.

One of the earliest tea factory in Ooty situated in a top of a hill. There is another tea and chocolate factory which apparently puts up sign board and yells to attract visitors to vist theirs. There is an entry fee of 10 rs in which you'll get a factory tour. They will show how tea powder is made from leaves to finished packed products and finally you'll get a free sample of tea. Again you are made to go through chocolate and gift store. Overall you'll play 10rs for the factory tour, free sample of tea and a view of Ooty town.

The Tea Factory, Ooty is a must visit place for all the tea lovers. It’s located 5 kms from the main town. The entry into the factory is completely free. You can have a look at the preparation of the Tea, through various process by machines. They offer a cup of tea, as a complimentary. They also sell various hand picked tea leaves and machine made tea products. There is a chocolate factory nearby where you can see the making of chocolate. Again, free of entry and they sell chocolates and they provide complimentary chocolate. But, I advise you to buy the chocolates from the shop at Dodabetta Peak. It’s less expensive and the taste was really good.

Nice place to spend an hour or so. Entry ticket is Rs. 10 per head. A bridge through the factory takes you through all the necessary processes it takes to prepare tea from tea leaves. At the end they give you a sample tea to try absolutely free and are courteous enough to give you a refill as well. Just outside are counters to buy tea and oils. Beside the tea factory is chocolate factory. The chocolates are amazing in taste. Do try the fudges and try to have it fresh. Freezing them do kill their amazing taste. I would HIGHLY recommend to buy chocolates from here and not from the local vendors in the city.

A place to visit when you are going to Doddabetta from Ooty town. Here we can see the process of making tea powder from raw leaves. They also gave us a cup of tea to taste and it was so good. It was cardamom tea and we bought a packet of it from the counter. Then we visited their chocolate factory. There also we can see and buy fresh chocolates. Entry costs 10₹. There is an adventure park near this place. We can have an amazing view of Ooty town from the watch tower of this place. Parking is available near the tower.

A great place to learn how tea is produced. They use orthodox manufacturing methods and while you look around the various stages of production, the guides there will fill you up with relevant information. You'll witness real workers handling leaves and how they are crushed, the difference between black, green, and oolong tea. Also you'll get to taste all of them and buy what you like. I recommend the medicinal white tea.

Very good place explaning entire process of tea processing. There is minimal entry fee for seeing the tea plant from inside. One can see the live machinery processing the finished tea product from fresh tea leaves. Though there is no guide but Process is mentioned with boards and pictures. The factory also have chocolate manufacturing unit. They also have the retail outlet for various kind of tea and chocolates. They also offer the readymade tea for tasting before you buy from them. Parking area is also spacious.

Entrance ticket is chargeable at just 10rs and you will get an excellent free tea inside. This factory will give you a chance to see from beginning to ending steps in making of tea powder. After this, there will be chocolate factory and clothing store also available. And in addition you can see there are some adventure games also available just near to this tea factory. Tea cost is ok but chocolates are little high cost. You must not miss this place if you are in Ooty.

  • 3/5 Nomad T. 2 years ago on Google
Visit only for information. Taste a free tea, enjoy and leave. We have spent around 12k rupees and bought tea, oils etc. After couple of weeks, all the items became aroma less. What you drink there as a freebie, is entirely different what you buy. What they add into various tea flavors, is you can't add at your home. I can't complain about the pricing as it is tourist place and it is obvious. But I highly disappointed for their claims related to the stuff they have. Sorry to say but not everything you see will perform exactly they convey. You can buy sample but do not make it bulk.

This is one of the must-visit places in Ooty to have a good experience with the tea and chocolate-making process in the factory itself. It’s a nice place to learn about the process of tea production. It’s cheap with entry fees of just 10 rs only which also includes a free tea sample at the end of the visit. If you read and watch the process in detail, it’s gonna take around 1 hour for the visit. It’s beautifully located on a hilltop with a nice view of the Ooty valleys. A must-visit for tea drinkers and enthusiasts. You'll be getting complimentary chocolate and multiple varieties of tea upon visit. Also, there is a nearby zip-lining adventure.

Good place to visit. We can know the process tea powder making and chocolate making. Chocolates are not too much good it’s an average. Hazel nuts were not found in the mix chocolate box. If you are going after 4PM tea leaves processing part will be miss and chocolate making because that time they are about to windup the work . Other part like drying the tea leaves and segregation of tea powder can see.

  • 5/5 Sam 10 months ago on Google
the tea making process was explained elaborately since it was happening in front of our eyes . After the whole process ended at the packing section , they gave us cardamom tea samples which tasted heavenly. We withstood the The finest of nilgiri tea leaves were being fermented and made into tea powder. The whole factory smelled like specifically "nilgiri tea"ish. Then the tea factory had a upper floor which connected to the chocolate factory , this wasn't that great as much as the tea factory since t was just the end product selling. But the dark chocolate was very unique and it was a blessing for the mouth. Definitely try that.
