Amazing place rich of history. One of the best attractions for me where I like to go back every time I am in Cairo. Great place for photography though. You could also find some antique shops there. Walk from the gate until you reach Khan Al Khalili. You will enjoy the walk and experience.

(Translated by Google) Bab al-Nasr in Islamic Cairo: It is a huge fortified stone gate built to the south of Bab al-Futuh, built by the Fatimid military commander, Jawhar al-Siqali. Minister Badr al-Jamali later called him Bab al-Ezz, however; Residents of Cairo preferred the original name 'Gate of Victory', which is still in use to this day. Perhaps the reason for this adherence is that this gate was the gate for the entry of the victorious Egyptian armies, which is what the Egyptians preferred to use this name, as Egyptian sultans such as Zahir Baybars, al-Mansur Qalawun, al-Ashraf Khalil and al-Nasir Qalawun passed by the prisoners of Egypt's enemies. Minister Badr al-Din al-Jamali moved this section in addition to Bab al-Futuh from their original places next to Zawyat al-Qadi to their current locations. This section is considered one of the most important monuments of a military nature that have remained in Egypt from that period in which the Fatimids ruled Egypt. The gate is distinguished by the decoration on the wings and the fronts of the towers, which symbolizes victory in the efforts of the campaigns to protect the city from invaders. And between the two wings of the gate there is a huge high door surmounted by an opening surrounded by a frieze that extends to surround the gate’s tower, inscribed with inscriptions mentioning the name of the one who built it (Caliph Al-Mustansir and the Emir of the armies Abu al-Najm Badr) and the date of construction. Above this frieze are the hatches for the gates. In the poppy there is a stone ladder that reaches the roof of the gate. This staircase has a design that is considered the first of its kind in the history of this period’s architecture, and this staircase leads to the towers, and it also leads to a group of rooms containing the most important group of stone arches. The leader of the French campaign against Egypt, Napoleon Bonaparte, named these towers from the northern wall after the French officers responsible for their security. These names are still carved near the top of the gates. The popular biography of King Zahir Baybars states that this gate was the gate through which Al-Zahir Baybars entered Cairo for the first time in his life.

I loved the place. It's historical and authentic with really lovely little shops inside where you can get some lovely art works, like some fake necklaces and others. The only draw back was that it was a bit crowded because it was Friday. Very limited parking spaces and only outside.
