This store is said to stock real papyrus paintings. On our Egypt trip we wanted to take back some souvenirs. Obviously, papyrus paintings was the natural choice. Our guide took us to this big store that was jam packed with tourists. It really is a huge store filled with paintings of all sizes in a rainbow of colours. They have a section near the entrance where we were shown how papyrus is made. The attendant there was knowledgeable and witty. He managed to answer all our unusual and difficult questions. We had priced similar paintings at a few other places, but had been discouraged to buy them there. As promised, our guide showed us why. There is a synthetic product available that mimics real papyrus, so do be careful in buying from unorganized places. The price of these are also unbelievably cheap, so please don't get cheated. This store is government approved, so that guarantees the quality of your product. Many people believe that you should bargain hard upto 50%, but this has a consequence. Our guide told us that they do have a cheaper variety which they then sell to customers who bargain a lot. The quality of the papyrus and the staying power of color is lower. I don't know how much of this is true. Time will tell, I guess! We chose a beautiful painting and paid the asking price for it. Imagine my surprise, when, after payment, I was told to choose a smaller painting, which was a token of appreciation for customers like me. This was my deal, for not bargaining, and it sure was a great deal!

Original paper inventor made by the egypt. Only here is original paper and painting so don’t get cheated outside. But they are very persistent keep asking you to buy, you can get a small painting for (usual 350ep) medium (usual 750ep) but u can buy 2-3 bargain until (small 150ep) & (medium 300ep) don’t get buy the original price and keep bargaining or walk away. They will come back talk with you until the price u want

Allegedly backed by the Egyptian government, this store sells genuine Egyptian papyrus that is purported to be hand made and painted. They demonstrate to you how papyrus is made in a overlapping criss cross pattern, and show how fake papyrus you see sold on the streets is actually made from banana leaf and printed. The prices are very high, so you'll need to NEGOTIATE HEAVILY. For 2 pieces originally labeled 1400 LE each I purchased for 1600 LE total plus got another piece labeled 500 LE for free, including having a cartouche of my name written in it.

My family and I came here with our tour guide. The people from inside are real experts on the topic and they explain to you in an engaging and entertaining way the history about the papyrus and how it is made. It is not something I would normally found appealing, but they really make it interesting and fun. You learn really curious stuff and at the end you can actually buy a real papyrus as a genuine souvenir. Shout out to Manar, who was the one that gave us the explanation. Super extroverted and charming, I really wanted to buy something just for how well she explained everything! (unfortunately I didn't have money to spend). Really competent person, she knew a lot about the topic and managed to make it super entertaining, which is not an easy job. I would totally recommend anyone who visits Cairo to go to this store. The explanation takes no more than 15 mins and they really make it worth it. Underated place in my opinion. Thanks again Golden Eagly Papyrus and thanks again Manar!

Egypt is a country of shameless fakes, which is why we chose this government approved supplier of genuine, quality papyrus. Yes it was expensive, but it was a very valuable and beautiful reminder of a once-in-a-lifetime trip and it now takes pride of place on our lounge room wall. The staff were welcoming and helpful, and good to negotiate with. We also appreciated the care taken with protective wrapping for our long trip, including stamping to ensure no problems coming back through customs.

SCAM!!! Be careful if your tour guide brings you here, they just want commission. The prices here are 10-30x what you pay in museum gift shops or markets.

Beautiful papyrus art. Are they real? I am sure they are but the ones sold to the tourists I am not so sure. Tour guides will take you here because they earn commission for every piece sold here. The demonstration on how papyrus is harvested, prepared and the process of making papyrus art is nice to see but that is it. You can get the same thing elsewhere for a fifth the price here. If you are going to buy make sure you bargain hard and be content if it's a fake one.

We came here with indonesian group. It was arranged by a local guide. Although they nice to us… For me, the picture that sold in here are just standard and also expensive. However, after i read some bad review from google maps; i really think that “the glow in the dark” paintings are really scam!!

It is a tourist trap. Do not buy . It is not real authentic like they say . The glow in the dark is fake . Tour guides take you here because they receive a cut from the store . The store scams people because you can get the same product from the Egyptian museum for a fourth of the cost . Do not buy !

Big tourist trap. Our offer of tea as Egyptian courtesy was only valid if we would buy extremely overpriced fake papyrus. Our 'guide' clearly hated his job and wanted to get as much money out of us as possible. He briefly and very monotonously explained what papyrus was before asking me if I wanted to buy a small empty sheet of papyrus for 15 dollars, clearly annoyed that I did not want to get robbed. He then shadowed us through the store while constantly mentioning how we should buy something. When I finally told him we just wanted to have a look at the paintings, I was told that if I am not going to buy anything, we should leave for the pyramids because they would close soon (it was 12, they close at 16). All in all a miserable experience again tailored to use tourists as an ATM.

Avoid buying anything here. It's a standard Egypt tourist trap that your tour guide will take you to. Prices are 4 to 5 times higher than they should be. Go to a local papyrus store to see the real prices and varying qualities of the same artwork. We paid $200 (with 40% off) for something that was being sold for $50 in legit stores.

Reminder: There is no such thing as a papyrus museum. This is a government-run papyrus store. Prices may be higher than other papyrus stores, but they are less pushy, give free demonstrations and most importantly, they don't sell fakes.

Interesting place to buy Egyptian paintings. Also interesting to see how the ancient Egyptian made paper from Papyrus plant. The prices are exuberant. However, you have to bargain a lot for it. Start with 15% of the price

The art pieces are quite pretty, and there is really brief and simple explanation of how papyrus paper are made. Once that is done, they will start pushing you to buy some pieces. The list price on all the art pieces are not fixed, you can get a 50%(not sure if you can go further) off them. After that 50% of the listed price, you would get additional free pieces to make you "happy". No pictures allowed of the art pieces.

The papyrus is authentic I guess. The sales person are friendly but too much pushy on sales. The worst catch is you have to bargain like hell. You are never sure where to start. They give good commissions to the guide who take you there so price is also included that commissions.

Tourist trap : come here to understand how papyrus parchment is made. Can also buy paintings on papyrus. Decorative and religious art. Some interesting pieces with luminescent paint. Not the cheapest of places to buy, so bargain, bargain, bargain! They have several Mandarin speaking staff.
