Stayed around 3 weeks in cabin 3. It was very good, clean, accommodating host and also more affordable than other options. Would stay again!

It is with great hesitancy that I write this review simply because I don't want other people to know about this hidden gem, but Janet was such a lovely and gracious host. I did an extended stay here over the winter. I am no stranger to this area. In the past, I have stayed at the Fairmont, Moose Lodge and Suites, Hidden Ridge Resorts, Ptarmigan Inn, and Stoneridge, Blackstone, Falcon Crest over in Canmore. I think each property has their own vibe that they're going for, I find that Elkhorn Lodge kinda just oozes a kind of warmth, charm, and authenticity that is not found in all the other hotels that I've stayed at. It is far away from Banff Ave so you don't get that touristy feel yet close enough that all the amenities located on the main strip are easily accessible by walking. There is a path off to the side of the lodge that opens up to a residential area, and immediately off of that is the Bow River access to multiple hiking trails. Deer just casually graze on the lawn. I think the biggest complaint about Banff is the very touristy and crowded vibe. This is the closest you can get to getting the small mountain town life feeling in Banff while still being able to enjoy all that the town has to offer.

We can’t thank the Elkhorn Lodge Team, and specifically Janet, enough for the wonderful longterm stay in one of the cabins. We felt very at home and well taken care of as Janet is always helpful, and very friendly to chat with. The cabin we stayed in has beautiful views through the windows in both summer and winter season. The lodge really lives up to its name, as we regularly saw elk and other wildlife walking by. The location is excellent, it’s only a short walk to downtown Banff, Bow Falls, and other scenic sites. The room was immaculately clean and has a fully equipped kitchen with all the amenities we could possibly need. There is even a nice BBQ area for guests to use. We absolutely loved our time there, and would highly recommend staying at the Elkhorn Lodge for both short and longterm visits. When thinking of staying in a cozy cabin in the mountains, this is exactly the getaway you would imagine it to be. Linda & Richard

It was our first visit to Banff and we spent 6 nights at the Elkhorn Lodge, although we found Banff to be very busy with tourists, Elkhorn Lodge is situated in a perfect location, 5 minutes’ walk into the town centre, Cascade Gardens, Bow River, Fairmont Springs Hotel. There was plenty of free parking at the lodge Elkhorn Lodge was very clean, with everything we needed, fridge, coffee maker, hairdryer, plenty of hot water and a good shower. The bed was lovely and comfy – just what we needed after a day’s hiking Check in was easy, even though we arrived early. Janet is very friendly and knowledgeable about the area and the walks. We enjoyed our stay at Elkhorn Lodge and this will be our first choice when we return to Banff, we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it

We were able to book the twin rooms for early September, at very affordable prices. Rooms - and attached bathrooms - were clean and well maintained. The location is very central, on the other side of the river, and - despite being on the main road - quiet. Though breakfast is not available on site, it is an easy walk to town, where multiple options are available. Janet is a very helpful host, always willing to help. Having stayed at Elkhorn Lodge pre-covid, it was great to be able to revisit Banff from this location.

I stayed at Elkhorn Lodge for 3 days/2 nights to attend a wedding hosted at the Fairmont. This was one of the best stays I've ever had. The owner/host - Janet - was extremely welcoming and hospitable. As soon as I came to check in, she greeted me by first name and had a lot of recommendations to share regarding the town/hikes. It felt like I was staying with a good family friend. Check-in is typically at 3pm however, I arrived early (around 12pm) and was able to check in early. Knowing that I was attending a wedding, Janet was considerate in asking if I needed anything (ex. iron, etc.). The rooms are VERY clean, they feel cozy and homey - just what you need after a long day hiking or exploring. Location is also fantastic - just a 10 minute walk to downtown Banff. I would 100% recommend booking with Elkhorn Lodge and will be booking here again the next time I'm visiting Banff.

We stayed here for 3 days and 2 nights, Janet is a great host, the rooms are super cozy and we felt like home. The lodge is in great vicinity and everything is very near from here. Janet was very helpful in guiding us to some of the best places in town and she asked us few times if we need anything. Besides all, i was looking at so many hotels online but everything was very expensive, then I found Elkhorn and this is really very affordable. Thank you Janet for operating such a wonderful place.

Janet was most helpful with us from the very start when we were making reservations. Even while we were just booking our stay, she provided information by email and phone about where to go, what activities we could do and where to find the best restaurants. She was most responsive with all of our questions and queries. She was warm and welcoming when we arrived and made us immediately feel comfortable. We even struck up a good long conversation before we actually checked in. It's definitely not the sort of interaction you would have with the front desk of a hotel!

This lodge is a short 5 minute walk away from the main strip of Banff. The room was clean and cozy, and the lodge was super cute and quaint. The check-in/out process was smooth, and the staff treat you like you’re family. Looking forward to staying with them again!

What can I say but a fabulous experience. Stayed in Banff many times but often in the village. An easy walk to downtown from the Lodge while you feel like you are in the woods. Ideal spot with a 2 minute walk to the Fairmont Banff Springs to take advantage of that property. Steps from the Bow river and a walk to the Bow Falls or the golf courses. Wildlife abounds. Wait a bit and the property you are in will have deer wandering around mixed in with elk or, simply stretched out for a while outside your window. MAGIC. Add to this you have parking in/near a village where parking is near non existent or pay to park. You can walk anywhere from the Elkhorn Lodge and even avoid what can be problem traffic. Add to all of this experience the rooms are ideal if you want a Banff experience and the support you get from the on site management can't be beat. Go the distance to make your stay special. To sum up for me there is only one place I will stay when I return to Banff. I tried it and ended up staying for months and months. One of the best trips and times of my life. A bit like getting lost in the past of Banff.

The Elkhorn Lodge is a true gem. As stated by others, it is the perfect location for walking to Banff Avenue, to the Banff Springs Hotel and for lovely walks along the Bow River. The lodge is clean, quaint and cozy and the hostess is friendly, helpful, and kind. One could not want for more! Also, the rates are reasonable for Banff.

Went to their website to get a better deal than what the airbnb offerings. The suite came with two bedrooms and a pull out couch bed and two bathrooms. It had a full kitchen, a dining room table and a living room area. Wifi was included. The building is older and has that older house smell, but it was extremely clean and very quiet. Location is very close to everything.

i stayed at Elkhorn for a month and everything can not be better. 10 of 10 for location : very close to downtown, a step away from bow river trail. 10 of 10 for service : their service is the best of best. I feel like l stay 5 stars hotel. 10 of 10 for comfortable : kind of historical lodge, but very well maintained, and Janet makes everything super clean Highly recommanded!!

We enjoyed our stay at the Elkhorn very much! Its location is excellent, the suites that have kitchens are wonderful, and its manager is fantastic. Janet keeps those rustic rooms very clean. She ensures the furniture and mattresses are comfortable and working well. She is good natured about helping out when you lock yourself out even at 10 PM. In short Janet goes the extra mile. We highly recommend the Elkhorn especially if you, like we, are budget conscious travelers.

Authentic + local gem located just minutes walk from Banff main street. Quick, smooth check-in and easily the most affordable rates in town. Would recommend checking this out for any short or long term stays.

This little gem was the perfect location, access to walking trails, a short walk to down town. Janet gave us great places to visit. Loved hearing about the history of the Lodge.

This place has a good price, friendly staff, fairly close to the main street in Banff and a safe place to lay our heads at night. Other than that, I would classify this place as a "budget hotel". There were bugs smashed onto the walls, the bed felt like rocks, the door to the bathroom was incredibly difficult to close, the scalding hot /bitter cold trickle water ratio was INCREDIBLY frustrating especially after a long day of hiking, the carpet was heavily soiled, the night tables lamps didn't work, there was no ice available, the towels had stains on them, and the coverlet bedding looked like it had never been washed. It's very basic accommodations, and there is so much competition in this town for hotels it's not worth returning.
