If you're a person of color please do not go here. I am a native American woman. They have literally done 2 surgeries and they messed up on purpose then once I figured everything out and stuffed from their mess ups for over a year. Today I got them on video admitting to their doctors messing up on me. Because I was literally in tears from the pain they had me escorted off the property while in tears because they wouldn't treat me for the problem they helped cause! P.S Most reviews left that are good are from students or parents of students.. Please keep that in mind when you trust these arrogant doctors teaching these student doctor's. That's what this place is. It's a glorified school for students to make mistakes and senior doctors get to act like arrogant A-holes!

If I could give zero stars I would. I went into the ER at Mount Auburn at the recommendation of my pcp who thought I was having an issue with my gallbladder on Monday. They did tests on me and nothing came up. I was in severe pain and they basically pushed me out of the emergency room and told me to go home. As they read the discharge notes saying when to come back to the ER, I said to the nurse "but I'm feeling all of those" she told me they couldn't do anything about it and made me sign the release and leave. As I was leaving, hunched over in pain, the same nurse says very rudely "you missed the left turn" . I went to my pcp the next day, who told me I needed to go back to the emergency room. I went to newton Wellesley hospital. They told me they were very surprised they didn't see anything from the imaging on my gallbladder because it was very apparent. I had surgery Tuesday to remove my gallbladder. Mount Auburn gave horrible treatment, horrible staff: this place should be closed down. The worst experience I have ever had in a hospital.

I had a horrific experience here. I went in for a severe bipolar episode of depression that had been lasting several weeks and progressed to a point where I needed inpatient care. I stood at the ER reception desk for 5 minutes ignored while the receptionist and a nurse chatted with their masks down. Finally they asked what was wrong immediately told me that “it would be a long wait because there are people here with physical illness”. This was incredibly demeaning and made me feel they don’t take mental health seriously. I waited for five hours while sobbing and having panic attacks (I get that the ER incurs long waits). The person they sent to babysit me was a man in street clothes who played on his phone and made phone calls the whole time. I was finally brought back and placed on a hallway bed next to many intoxicated people in restraints, triggering my ptsd. A nurse walked by one of the intoxicated patients and snapped “you get that you’re taking up a hospital bed right now?”. It was so unprofessional, this man probably had mental health issues. My nurse was rude to me and tried to guilt trip me that other patients had passed away when I mentioned I’d been having a panic attack for five hours. The doctor threatened to section me even though I didn’t meet section 12 criteria. I was sobbing and panicking and couldn’t move and they forgot to give me a PRN for over 2 hours. They forgot to give my night meds for over 4 hour, I had to ask at least 4 times. They didn’t care I hadn’t eaten and couldn’t take my antipsychotic. They forgot two of my night meds and it took another hour to get them. By this time it was 5am. I met with a doctor for all of 40 seconds in the entire 18 hours I was there. The only positive things were my conversation with Beth King who actually cared and listened and the tech that did my EKG and bloodwork who was friendly and kind. This experience made me even more terrified of ERs than I already am and makes me feel I will be less likely to go to an ER if I ever need help in the future for mental health. (And because of the system, if you need inpatient you have to go through ER). I am horrified, traumatized, and feel extremely demeaned by the staff at Mt Auburn.

I've been coming to mount auburn since COVID and the hospital has gradually gotten worse over the years. When I call to schedule an appointment, no one picks up. Receptionists in the Primary Care office are rude and never help resolve anything. The ER staff are rude and will ignore you until you go up to them. Got billed over $2500 due to clerical errors and misinformation from the staff. The first time a medical assistant put in the wrong code for my claim, so it was denied and then refused to re-bill under the proper code. Second time, I was told to put a provider's name under my insurance but they billed me under a different provider's name. If you don't want a major headache every time you come here then please find a different hospital to go to.

My wife has been going to the Hoffman Breast Center to take her breast exams for the past several years. This place is always behind the schedule by at least 1 hour, so when we were running a bit late we were not too worried. My wife checked in online, and then arrived about 5 minutes late for her appointment. There were people in the wait room sitting there well past their appointed time, we joined them. About 40 minutes later, an associate approached my wife and said that since she was late, she now has to wait for another 1 to 2 hours because they will need to squeeze her in between other patients. WHAT? Guys, you were ALREADY behind the schedule. The fact that she arrived 5 minutes late changed nothing. It would be understandable if you called her up and she was not there, but it was not the case. It would be almost ok if you warned her about this extra wait when she arrived, but doing it 40 minutes later? What made it even more outrageous was that the same associate approached another woman who actually arrived on time, and tried to persuade her that she was late and would also have to wait. You schedule appointments for every 15 minutes, cannot actually process them, and then try to shift the blame to your patients. If everybody arrived on time, your tiny waiting room would explode because you cannot keep up the schedule. Running behind the schedule is understandable at times, but shifting the blame like this is not. Anyways, today my wife decided to go somewhere else for her breast exam.

We had a horrible experience this morning. We both have covid. There was no one doing triage or intake. We were asked to sit in the waiting room, where we stayed coughing and sneezing for over 2 hours. Finally someone walking by asked if I had covid and, when I said yes, told me that I couldn't be there. It would have been safer for all involved (patients, staff, etc.) if we had been quarantined. I can't believe a hospital would handle contagion this way. I also can't believe someone with covid would be asked to wait over 2 hours without talking to a nurse. (It wasn't a busy morning. There were only 2 others waiting.)

I gave birth to my son here and it was an absolute nightmare. Trying to recover from a C-section was near to impossible. Construction work was happening in the room near ours. Heavy pounding throughout my stay startled not only me but my little one. It was impossible to sleep or recover. We kindly requested a different room and had to deal with retaliatory nurses. The nurses were horrible. Rough with my baby and inconsiderate. Educate yourself and get an doula or an advocate of some sort to accompany you during your birthing experience. Nurses are nothing less than bullies who want insurance money.

My wife delivered here and our experience was top notch. The entire staff was just amazing — the doctors, nurses, everyone was truly great. I can’t speak any more highly of the qualified professionals who took care of my wife and baby. Each one of them was friendly, knowledgeable, non-judgmental, helpful, caring, the works. The hospital is nice and really doesn’t feel intimidating. Frankly, I’ve never been to a hospital that didn’t give off hospital vibes. This one really feels boutique-y. We had one nurse who was devoted to us throughout the night, exclusively, and she was great. The delivery rooms were large, well-appointed and certainly above anything I would’ve ever expected from a hospital, and everything was super clean. We were given our own post-partum room as well, which was smaller, but amazing to have the privacy. There are amenities, and the food is good too! Highly recommend delivering here.

Despite the work they do, a lot of the nurses are rude except for the very few who are actually nice and helpful. Otherwise I don't approve of the practice that they use. They give horrible attitudes they don't give you all the information you need. We had our mother in there and they couldn't even tell us where she went. Even though I was a proxy. They lie and they don't treat their patients with care.

Took my Aunty (mother’s sister) to the ER. There were only about 4 people in the waiting area. Which were all entertained in about 3 hours. After waiting for 4.5 hours, they took my Aunt inside the ward to start treatment. But really she just ended up waiting for the most part. And after 4 more hours, she had to take a stand for herself and inquire about the process, only to find out that they had been making her wait unnecessarily. Bottom line, one must not go there specially if they want to be treated in emergency. Cos even emergency means long lasting wait.

I’ve always been treated with dignity and respect when at the Mt Auburn hospital. My recent visit to radiology was outstanding. Simone and the rest of the team that was on duty that day were very accommodating and patient with me I even left some jewelry and Simone took the time to hand deliver it to me upstairs. Very kind and personable !!

Avoid Mount Auburn Hospital. I had a negative experience from the moment I entered for an appointment when the receptionist was incredibly rude to me. I don't think the doctor I saw listened to a word I said in the 15 total minutes they spent with me. It took me a month & several complaints to get a response to my prescription follow-up question. When someone finally reached out because they got a slap on the wrist, they were clearly annoyed and I was not getting quality care. I recently heard that a friend had a botched surgery here - not surprised.

Second time here for a colonoscopy and had the worst experience ever. Only the anesthesiologist was pleasant. Was practically kicked out after being woken from anesthesia in less than five minutes. Love my primary who is associated with this hospital, but would warn others from this department. Never again.

I had a very bad experience with the sleep clinic here... But before that, the front desk worker at night is very rude.. She yelled at me for having "the wrong kind of mask on" and forced me to remove mine and put on a surgical mask, even though mine was a KF94, and far more protective than a surgical mask. She continued to shout and argue with me until I walked away. Then, the clinician at the sleep clinic was also rude. He demanded to know why I was "late", even though I got lost inside the building and had to have a security guard help me.. he also dismissed me when I explained that I have an anxiety disorder, and started shouting, "why didn't your doctor give you a prescription for a sleeping pill?" I ended up leaving the sleep clinic and not even following through with the overnight study. Bad experience, and would not recommend coming here.

How can you trust these doctors when they purposely lied about covid deaths just so they could make more money. DISGUSTING! People are just dollar signs to these hospitals.

When you have an appointment, they usually make you wait 30min before you can get treated. And then the front desk sent you to the wrong place and you’re 15min late, they have to reschedule you to a month later. For how expensive the insurance coverage is, this is an absolute joke

Went to Mt. Auburn Hospital with a head injury and extreme nausea. I knew I had a concussion but was concerned about how bad it was. I arrived at the hospital a little after 10:30 on a Monday night. I was not seen by a nurse until 3:00 and then waited until 3:30 to see an attending. He looked at me for about 5 minutes and send me on my way. I have a $500 bill for administrative fees and equipment used. It must have been a very expensive blood pressure monitor. I have talked with multiple people at the hospital and they have not been helpful in trying to resolve or reduce this cost in anyway.

I gave birth at the Bain Birthing Center in May 2020. At the time, it was the start of the Covid pandemic. I had to go to the hospital to give birth alone because my spouse had to mind our older child. The staff took exceptional care of me. Every single interaction was positive. The doctors, nurses, and midwives were caring, professional, and efficient. I will forever be grateful to the wonderful staff at the Bain Birthing Center. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Stayed here overnight after surgery. My first experience at Mt Auburn -- outstanding in every way and such a difference from big Boston hospitals. Busy with patients, but you will feel like you are the only one. Staff and nurses respond in seconds after pressing the call button, food arrives minutes after ordering. Kindness and helpfulness A+. What I really appreciate is the communication behind the scenes. You can tell these colleagues talk to each other and we are people, not just patients. ZERO NAUSEA from anesthesia, and pre-surgery prep was anxiety-free. I liked being able to walk into the operating theatre and watch everyone working to ensure I had a safe and successful surgery. Had never heard of Mt Auburn Hospital before this (my doctor has her offices there). Easy parking in the garages too. A+

Pathetic service. I came to the ER with Covid distress, and they had no system to let the patient know about service time/delays etc. I sat there by the front door for hours, without any update on my status. If you go to the ER, expect to be in the waiting room for a min 3-4 hours, if not more.

Late Night Shift of ICU has horrendous folks working. Sad to say the few bad apples caused this bad review. There are wonderful professionals working at this hospital and I thank them for their hard work. Lack of logic and empathy dwells within these rotten apples.

From the moment I stepped into Mt. Auburn hospital for my total ankle replacement, I was met with an outstanding level of care and professionalism. The entire staff, from custodial team to food service, nurses to doctors, displayed genuine warmth and compassion. Dr. Basile and his team took to time to listen to any of my concerns and answered all of my questions. Their smiles and attentiveness made me feel truly valued as a patient. They made my recovery a comfortable and reassuring experience. I have had a number of hospital stays over the years and this is the first time I was felt I was 100% listened to. I felt I wasn’t ready to leave after two days and asked to stay one more and they didn’t try to convince me out of it. With my other stays, I always felt I was being rushed out to make room. I am SO SO grateful for the exceptional care I received throughout my stay. I almost (just almost) didn’t want to leave.

I have been a patient of Mount Auburn since birth. My wife and I recently welcomed our son to the world 6 weeks early, requiring a 17-day stay in the Level 2 nursery/NICU. During that incredibly difficult time, we always felt our son was receiving not only the best and most appropriate medical care, but the nurses and doctors were absolutely incredible with their patience, kindness and compassion. The room our son was in was beautiful with views of the Charles River and the Boston skyline and a comfy recliner (the “mom chair”) and was always well stocked with diapers, wipes, milk pumping and storage equipment and everything else needed. Additionally while our son was admitted we were both allowed to call for included meals from the room service menu which made things much easier for us not having to worry about food between the many trips to and from the facility (the food was great too!) I cannot say enough good things about the staff and the care they provided to our son in the NICU and to my wife in Labor and Delivery! Additionally I have received knee surgery at Mount Auburn and as noted have been a patient at the hospital my whole life and have always been satisfied to extremely pleased with my personal care.

Do people here care about patients who are in so much pain? They literally don’t care even if there’s someone dying in front of them. Everyone should know about this before you go. STUPID. They don’t know how to work with paitents. I want to ask them, do you guys even know how to prioritize? Because I don’t think you know. No professional.

The providers I saw at Mt Auburn were all great. The billing office here, though is a total nightmare and why I will avoid this place from now on. I have had two separate issues, including one related to how a visit was coded that I went back and forth with the billing office about for 9 months. Part of the problem is that the people you talk to on the phone are not the people who actually review the coding issues, so I have never been able to get a clear answer about why my coding issue was not being resolved. Last I heard, my bill was being sent back to be reviewed by the coding people yet again, and I was told not to pay the bill in the meantime. Then today I got a letter from a collections agency for the bill, which to my knowledge was still under review! I’m so frustrated by this whole thing, I'll probably pay the bill which wasn’t that much anyway just so that I don’t have to deal with this hospital's billing office ever again.

Took forever but received good care today. After a trip to India, I experienced chronic abdominal pain etc. (I'll spare you the details). They found the cause (bacteria) and increased antibiotics. If you go to the e.r. make sure you clear your calendar for the ENTIRE morning, afternoon and night. It's not always so ideal at Mt. Auburn. Also follow up with a specialist because the er can't thoroughly treat. Mount Auburn has it's significant problems, too. Once I had a precious gold necklace stolen from a locker ( locked) during an MRI about 6 years ago, December 2016. And after a surgery they rushed me to get up while I was still nauseated and also the nurse had wiped her nose with her hand and then wanted to insert the I.v. so, Mount Auburn, Keep working at it! The Patient Relations dept did absolutely nothing. They handed it back to me and suggested I contact the director.they didn't want to get involved.

Mount Auburn Hospital is a training hospital for HARVARD Medical and hold the highest standards for all staff. They are the most pleasant and compassionate staff I have experienced with high standards thru my cancer treatments. They make my Oncology and Radiation sessions bearable.🤗

I wouldn’t recommend this hospital and their other branches to any patients. For sure MGH is a better option in Boston area and they are good at the diagnostics and treatments, also they do not surprise patients.

I have used the Mt. Auburn Hospital over many years, and after not having been there for several years, I visited today as one of my medical providers has recently moved there. Although I would give my provider 5 stars, I made the mistake of using the rest room on the 5th floor of of the medical building. I was appalled at the condition of this hospital bathroom, which in my experience are generally well cared for. Two of the three stalls, were completely out of toilet paper (only mid-day) , locks and TP dispensers were broken, and there were several paper wads on the floor. I would not usually write this kind of review, buttbis was pretty bad!

I had a hip surgery done at mt auburn. The process was fairly easy and the staff were very helpful. I especially enjoyed the pre surgery power point that was provided by one of the pt nurses a few days before surgery. The recovery was a day and a half, private room, and the nurses / pt were very helpful and caring. Also, side note, the food room service is decent and have a great menu, you can pretty much order it all. Id recommend the chicken stir fry. Definitely less hectic then other big boston hospitals. Thumbs up for me.

My 98 year old grandmother had hip surgery which was a good experience but the next day the nurse on Needham seven was extremely rude to my family. There was a sign with incorrect visiting hours and we thought we had more time than we did because of that old sign. From 2-5pm on a Sunday they don’t allow visitors. That in itself is ridiculous. The way this one nurse treated my father and sister was over the top disrespectful. They were treated like criminals.

Horrible hospital filled with incompetent billing. They will lie about procedures being screenings or covered by insurance and then send you bills for thousands of dollars. We made a formal complaint and asked for it to be reviewed for months with no response. If you choose to go to this horrible place, get everything estimated and in writing ahead of time.

At 3:30 today, August 5, I went to the emergency room at Mt Auburn for an infected wound on my leg inflicted accidentally by my dog. My experience was excellent. Checking me in was a polite and helpful young man. Despite many people in the waiting room I was seen by a triage nurse within 15 minutes. Following her intake I returned to the waiting room expecting a long wait for the doctor. But again about 15 minutes later I was taken to a room where a doctor saw me and quickly determined a treatment. All the staff was polite. The nurses engaging and the doctor thorough. I write this as there have been many negative posts and I think those who have a positive experience should also share it. It’s a tough environment to operate. Thank you Written by Aurilee. I’m so sorry to read the current reviews for Mt Auburn Hospital. It’s a shame because it is a great hospital. All I know is my husband’s life was saved many times because of his NURSES at Mt Auburn Emergency Room to Surgical nurses to Recovery Nurses whether he’d had a difficult surgery & recovery, and/or surgical complications to peritonitis attacks (more than once). The Nursing Staff was remarkable. 45+ years history. My husband was a patient of Dr. Kim Saal. Dr. Saal was wonderful. Every doctor and nurse were at the ready defending the sick; self-care wasn’t in their vocabulary (at least on shift). It’s difficult learning Mt. Auburn has undergone such changes. Thank you to all the former and current nurses (1970’s - current:me) at Mt. Auburn Hospital, Cambridge, MA. for the way you cared for him so he’d come home all put back together again. I always appreciated that. ❤️ That’s the Mt. Auburn Hospital I’ll remember.

The only way to receive a copy of your x-ray is to have them put it on a physical disc and mail it to you?? What is this, 1992? They didn’t even send a copy for my doctor to look at. Complete waste of time. Radiology is also closed on the weekends… at a hospital.

I've never seen a company charge someone for supplies. That at the end of the year is written off as a business expense. Giving Mount Auburn payment for hospital supplies. Then get tax deductions at the end of the year. This is why Medical reform is needed. Because Hospitals like this are Crooks... Preying on the ill. I will go to another hospital and hope they don't practice the same double dipping as Mount Auburn. Something tells me the hospitals are all practicing this same disgusting practice. Thanks for getting paid twice for me having surgery there.

We came to Mt. Auburn to deliver our baby. The highlight of the experience was the staff. With few exceptions, every one of the 20+ doctors, midwives, RNs, and other providers we've worked with was phenomenal — genuinely caring, patient (not once did we feel like a provider was rushing away from the bedside), happy to thoroughly answer all of our questions. From the staff, we learned everything we needed to feel confident going home, from swaddling to diapering to breastfeeding. Unfortunately, our baby needed to do an extra stint at the Level 2 NICU; we felt confident that even when we left the hospital, he was being carefully watched over and cared for. A few providers in the NICU went above and beyond the call of duty; one of them even bought our little guy a shirt! The delivery and postpartum facilities were also great. They had a big room available for the birth with lots of options for helping with labor (birthing stools, a tub, etc.) For postpartum, we got our own room with an attached bathroom and plenty of light. Our biggest complaint about the whole experience was the physical setup of the Level 2 NICU. Again, we had a private room with beautiful views, which we definitely appreciated. However, there was only 1 armchair and 1 folding chair allowed in each room, which meant that neither of us could really sleep and recover while visiting, and (as the person in the folding chair) my back was in agony at the end of the day. The closest bathroom is also a 3 or 4 minute walk down a long hallway, which was very uncomfortable for my wife, and we believe delayed her recovery. We recognize that some of this is mandated by the Dept. of Health, but the uncomfortable layout definitely made an already-hard experience a lot harder. Overall, we would highly recommend Mt. Auburn as a place to deliver.

Recently my youngest son was admitted to the ICU at Mt Auburn Hospital. I can only speak to that unit and the staff working there as it was the only part of the hospital I dealt with. Being from out of state, we were guided every step of the way by a social worker, the doctors, nurses and the organ transplant coordinators. Although it was a terrible personal loss for our family, everyone we dealt with could not have been nicer or more considerate during a time when we could barely think for ourselves we had so much support keeping us informed and truly felt they each cared for my son and our entire family.

I've had both good and bad experiences here. I've always been treated very well for physical illness and delivering my son was great. However on the flip side I've gone to the emergency department for psychiatric reasons multiple times and that hasn't been as great. Understandable during covid when already stretched thin AND having to deal with me having a meltdown. Luckily it was only that one time a nurse was horrible to me (she was shockingly mean). Otherwise psych there is psych and it's never a pleasant experience.

The ER at this hospital is actually hell. I was yelled at upon arrival despite being terribly ill, ignored and mistreated today. They also disregard mental illness completely and were not accommodating to my OCD at all. The doctor was good but I saw him for about two minutes over the course of 8 hours of waiting. More sick leaving than when I arrived, shoved into a bed lined with other beds in a hallway, no rooms, terrible facilities. Ignored, ignored, ignored. What a sad excuse for an ER. I'm still sick, so I'll probably add more negatives to this review as they come to me.

Was once a great hospital the personal are very nice but staffing problems is a persistent problem. The staff regularly cancel appointments on the scheduled day. The problem is not limited to a single department but is a systemic issue across multiple departments.

Typically every clinic/hospital with Beth Israel Lahey has excellent customer service, but I spoke with 3 different representatives today and they were all rude and they seemed tired! We all have long days at work but I think we all deserve a simple "hello, how can I help you" and "thank you, have a good day".
