Things to note about this place: Its almost always busy, you should definitely book in advance to avoid disappointment. We got lucky and there was a cancellation after the staff had turned us away. Cute small restaurant in central kingston Good things: • The salmon tartar was godly. It seems like such a small portion in the photos but it was so rich and tasty that I actually struggled to finish it. You will not regret having it. Though I have never liked salmon roe. • Seaweed was nice • Sushi you could taste the freshness. The sushi rice was still warm, the ingredients were still good, high quality product. • Friendly staff • Miso was super nice and tasty Bad things: ° Boy this was pricey for Kingston. I spent almost £40 includng service charge.. ° The staff did mishear my friend so we received a butter fish nigiri but we didn't ask for it. My friend asked for 1 unagi nigiri a few times, we thought staff had got that but an extra thing turned up on the table.. ° The Tofu just wasn't nice. The texture looked crispy, but it was like a crispy coat on top of jelly that coated the tofu. It was so odd and my friend couldn't finish it ° Kaiso salad was standard, nothing special

Was overall a good experience, I came to try some different food/sushi, and all was very well presented. The only thing I didn't like and was the origin of the fish, I expected wild fish and instead was farmed fish. That was a minus to me. Very attentive team working ,a perfectly well presented and clean restaurant. Very small restaurant so definitely make sure you have a booking before coming in.

A small, cozy Japanese restaurant. They had ‘more’ sushi and sashimi options (such as hamachi) then other Japanese restaurants and the quality was good. I love that they don’t localise much their food to cater the preference of local people. Kushi dishes were my favourite and they even had quail eggs which was a very local Japanese dish. Had a great evening although wine was really expensive and the portion was a bit too small.

So happy we found this absolute gem. The food here is very fresh and tasty. Every bite was a delight! We ordered a lot and were surprised that every single meal served was so delicious. I recommend takoyaki, spicy ebi karage, miso, sashimi sets, nigiri and spicy tekka . The service was good as well, all the staff were very welcoming. Can’t wait to return for more.

Best sushi so far in London. Every thing on the menu was tasty and very fresh on my three visits. One point could be improved is customer service. On one visit we had to wait another hour for the next dishes to arrive and we received no apology for it. It was a one time thing, but in general staff could be more welcoming.

The best sushi ever ! It’s an affordable price compared to most of the high quality sushi restaurants in London ! Highly recommended to order the sashimi set ! It’s truly amazing and unforgettably delicious

Amazed by their quality of food! I almost find myself eating in Japan until I heard the owner speaking Korean Hahaaa... Even though it is a bit pricey, it worths my money... I will recommend the scallop sushi and the Chirashi Don. Their rice is authentic sushi rice with vinegar.👍🏻Tuna Don is good too but I like more variety of fishes. It would be great if you can create your own Don. There is a paid parking lot near the restaurant. Very convenient.

If you are looking for real Japanese food in the UK, this is your choice. Fresh sasgumi, sushi and udon, Can't compare with the chain store such as Itsu, Wagamama, Yoshi!... Great service and highly recommend to try.

Cosy venue with a relatively small and simple menu, but what they do, they do it very well. The sauce for the seaweed salad is well balanced and flavourful. The agedashi tofu is fair, it would taste better if served in bigger piece so it taste fluffy rather than firm. The rice for sushi is well made and taste airy as it should be, fish pieces are cut generously, mouth feel is superb, I would highly recommend the butterfish nigiri. Dragon roll is well made, portion is generous and flavour profile is delightful. The absolute must have is definitely the unagi don, portion size is fair, the eel is very well grilled with a hint of charred, rice covered in generous drizzle of of the sauce, one bite of the eel with rice taste divine. This is not some knock off Japanese restaurant, yes, the chefs are Korean, but they really know what they are doing with every dish they serve up. Their version of the unagi don outclass many of the soggy unagi don we have tried in many authentic Japanese restaurant. Would highly recommend this little restaurant to anyone who is looking for a proper Japanese meal. The price isn't cheap, but you won't find quality fish handled by skilled chef for cheap.

Staff was super friendly and made me, my wife and a guest of ours feel super welcome on a Saturday. We were all new to the area, and saw high reviews on this location and we all had Japanese food cravings. We didn't have a reservation, but we decided to try our luck. We got lucky as there was a slot when we walked in - in between 2 bookings: before 715pm The staff cohesion was good and the atmosphere was nice. Food was excellent. The sashimi was really fresh, the dragon roll was on point and the chirashi don hit the spot We couldn't exactly pinpoint if the staff were Korean or Japanese and it was a close bet - but we decided it was a mix crew, we could really tell the team was tight-knit and worked cohesively as a unit Thank you for the experience, we'll definitely be back again soon - the next time with a reservation

Really tasty authentic Japanese. Really was tempted to put 4 stars instead of 5, because it’s really is quite pricy, specially for the location. But perhaps this kind of prices is actually just a normal; and hopefully employees get some decent pays.

Truly love the food here, its always so full of flavour. The sushi especially is absolutely beautiful, best I've ever had in my life. This place is absolutely worth visiting, there's even another in Teddington.

The best sushi I have ever eaten. Quality of the fish is exceptional. Had fatty tuna nigiri that was out of this world. Haven’t found any place in central London on par with this quality at this price range.

I’ve been to the Teddington branch more often and this was my first time trying the Kingston one! I have to say they maintain the standards across both really well. All fish were undoubtedly fresh (just wish the rice were not falling apart so easily) and ALL the starters, sides and the Unagi rice were all on the point! My personal favourite was the chicken skewers And the tempura prawn 😍 LOVE their Yuzu sorbet which was sooo refreshing and tasty! It’s a must try! Wish their dessert menu was slightly bigger tho. But all in all if you’re close by and craving Japanese this is the place to go (but make sure to book)

The most delicious sushi and sashimi and by far the best place to eat in Kingston. It’s an intimate venue so bookings are essential. We got a bottle of wine, 10 pieces of sashimi, 4 pieces of nigiri and two rolls at 6 pieces each. It’s on the pricer side but definitely highest quality of fish and i can’t wait to go back. Thank you

Food is superb. I went so many times with my wife that I think we have tried everything on the menu and there is not something that I would not reccomend. The gyoza for example are something unreal, I have been trying many japanese restaurant but Obon beat them on all the aspects: they are crispy, mouth watering and super tasty. The selection of sashimi is amazing along with the rolls (super good is the Soft shell crab and the dragon roll), the tartare (both salmon and red tuna) is great; the octopus is another universe; i mean, everything is very very good. So far, it is my favourite japanese restaurant in London and some Michelin stars ones are mediocre if compared to Obon. Please, do not change!

It's always a pleasure to come back to Obon, in fact it's THE BEST JAPANESE RESTAURANT IN LONDON! The staff is absolutely fantastic, so lovely and courteous. The menu is amazing and all food offered is of highest quality. You might think it's expensive but the portions are quite big and as said before the quality is superior.
