EDIT: September 2022 it was ok for a few months but it’s back to not opening on time. 20+ minutes of waiting and nobody showed to open the gym. Terrible service for the twenty people waiting. Literally never seen another business this bad at opening. March 3rd 2022 STILL an issue. Twice at least this week no one was there at opening. Absolutely horrendous service and waste of time EDIT Jan 19 22; STILL an issue. Waited 30 minutes and had to leave before anyone showed up. Still a massive waste of time. EDIT Jan 9 2022: Late opening at least 3 times this week by 15 minutes. Today we’ve been waiting over 35 minutes and nobody has shown up. Huge waste of time I’ve never seen a business struggle so much to open on time. Been a member for years and at least 25% of the time I wait 20-30 minutes for someone to unlock the door in the morning EDIT: this is still happening. Manager is aware and unable/unwilling to fix it

I was robbed at this Planet Fitness. One of the worst Planet Fitnesses I have ever been to. I live in the area and frequent this location simply because of how convenient it is to commute there. If you have any other PF’s near you, please do your best to avoid the Porter Square location at all costs. A few weeks ago, my locker was broken into and I was robbed of all the cash I had in my wallet. I always utilize a lock on my locker, and was shocked to see the locker was completely destroyed after my workout. The top half of the locker was ripped off and my wallet was shuffled through. All of my belongings were still there, including a backpack and my airpods case. They simply only took the cash. This is revealing because to me it tells me this person has done this before and knows that by grabbing other items their location could potentially be tracked. They only took cash which is untraceable. After notifying the front desk and filing a police report, I was told that there was simply nothing that can be done and that the Porter Square location has been hit with theft a lot in the past year. You would never know this because there are no signs whatsoever in the gym cautioning you to be careful with your items in the locker room. You’d only know if you have a keen eye and survey the locker room for how many lockers are completely destroyed, signifying theft. After confronting the staff after the fact, they were able to accomodate me with 3 months of membership which I appreciated. However, it does not make me feel any more comfortable locking away my items moving forward. I will be keeping my items on me at all times. With the winter coming up, I urge anyone going there to please be careful with what you lock away as this location has done nothing whatsoever to prevent any further theft.

2022. I must say what a contrast from just over a year ago when I first joined this gym. I have been coming in on Saturday because it's not as busy mornings and the gym is very dirty. Today is Sunday 10/02/22 and I decided to work out in the morning again. The place is once again very dirty, paper all over the floors, bathrooms are horrific, no soap to wash your hands, out in the gym I told the front desk clerk there were no paper towels in the entire upper floor and he rudely responded: "I guess you can't do squats or deadlifts without those huh?" The lack of care is obviously wide spread here. I'm disappointed. I hope this situation improves because I like the price point and convenience of having a gym anywhere I go. The Cambridge location used to be my favorite spot, in my home town, the energy was great and the place was super clean just over a year ago. It has certainly fallen off a cliff! 2021 Great location, steps away from Porter Square station. The atmosphere inside is energetic, accepting, electric, vibrant and is super clean. Highly recommended. Right next to Lesley University.

WORST GYM EXPERIENCE EVER. First off they don't have potable water and are instead charging their customers to drink water (highly illegal). Secondly they waste so much space with cardio machines that are never full while there are only 4 benches for free weights and 2 squat racks. People are literally lined up waiting for people to finish using their weights because they don't even have enough. This is a pathetic excuse of a business much less a gym and they are definitely doing shady things behind the scenes. All attempts at speaking with customer service or management are met with silence. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY AT THIS PLANET FITNESS.

Every day has the same problem, the gym never opens at the right time, today Sunday 18 is 9:56am and the gym is still closed, everyone waiting! They are problems that should already be solved by the management, because they always have the same complaints.

This gym is constantly not opening on time. There are countless times a group of people are waiting at the door at the posted time it should be open and having to wait for someone to arrive and open the gym. Today the lad was asleep on the couch in the Black Card lounge while quite a few of us were waiting to get in. We knocked and tried calling the gym multiple times but there they slept. It wasn't until 20 minutes after us waiting at the door that the security guard went in and woke them up to let us in. This has been an ongoing issue for months.

Do NOT come here. As a black card PF member who has been to dozens of planet fitnesses around the country over the years, this is easily the worst one I've been to. You will rarely require customer service in a gym but do not expect ANY help the one or two times a year you'll need it. Just recently I asked them to hold a sweater I left behind so I could pick it up the following day. A simple request that any competent establishment can handle. They agreed over the phone and put the sweater to the side, only for it to be gone the next day. An employee either stole or threw away my property knowing full well I was coming for it. What makes it worse is the manager won't even listen to my issue and refuses to call me back or talk about it. He has no idea what my problem is and even then he still ignores me. I highly recommend going somewhere else. The employees here very clearly do not like their jobs and treat any amount of work, no matter how minor, as a nuisance. This is highlighted by how often they open late and how badly they want to close early. They market the whole 'no gymtimadation' thing but this is by no means a welcoming environment.

This club has gone downhill. The location is convenient and there is a lot of equipment. However, this club is unsanitary and the staff is lazy, rude and unhelpful. There is an on-going issue of no hand soap in the men's room. So much for hand hygiene. Today I asked the front desk person to please refill the hand soap. His answer was it is not my job and if you are not happy to go to a different club! Other problems are the broken water fountain, empty paper towel dispensers, and the unhealthy practice of using vacuum cleaners around people trying to work out. Vacuum cleaners spread allergens, bacteria, and viruses. I am concerned about the lack of caring about the health of people in this club.

I strongly suspect that PF messes up their billing system and charge late fee for extra income. A few days ago I received notice of a $15 late fee for unsuccessful annual fee charge but I never had issues with monthly fees. Later I contact customer service and they found out the system billed the wrong account so it bounced off then it can back to me to charge a late fee AND NO BODY CAN CANCEL THAT LATE FEE!!!!! Should never signed up for this place and for such a fraudulent experience.

Unfortunately a very bad place. This gym is for professionals only. Very unfriendly staff. I came for the first time and no one showed me what to do. I asked for stuff twice, but they said I needed to see pictures of the training equipment. But I have never been to the gym and need help because I don't want to get hurt. The site has information about group training, but in fact it is not. I was there for about 10 minutes trying to get help. I really wanted to visit this gym, but was disappointed.

The club itself isn’t that bad. What kills it are the people that attend and unfortunately the staff. I too have had an issue as of last weekend of somebody trying to steal my bag. I thankfully keep my keys, phone, wallet and AirPods on me when I workout. But all throughout the locker rooms the lockers are either punched it or can’t close properly. Theft is a MAJOR problem here, and it’d help if the employees would give people a heads up. When I came to them for my issue they told me it was the third time that day that someone went through somebody else’s stuff. I wouldn’t know because there aren’t any warnings. I instead that day while changing had to warn people of what was going on. Also, the showers here are extremely mediocre. They’re the worst showers I’ve used at a planet fitness. Only one of them has a proper shower head the rest are just horrible. The equipment is great, I’ve never had any issues. But it’s the concern of my belongings, the lack of communication with the employees and the cleanliness that bring this location down to 1 star for me. Easily would be a 4-5 star gym otherwise. Because of my stuff being stolen I’m switching to a new home gym but I hope that these issues here can be resolved.

I think it is a good place for workouts in Cambridge. It could be cleaner, but for 10 dollars a month, I have no complaints. The gym is not congested most of the time I go. People going to the gym are of different ages and levels. It accomplishes the slogan; Judgement Free Zone! I wish the drinking fountain outside the locker room had a higher flow, but the bottle filler is fine.

Convenient location, to be sure, but I don't know how many times I have found all of the soap dispensers in the men's locker room empty, which is especially disheartening in a world with Covid and monkey pox. I have mentioned this to the front desk staff and sent emails but it is always the same. There is never a "real" manager onsite (just "regular" staff) so I doubt my concerns have been passed on. Also, I am one of those dinosaurs who enjoys watching TV during cardio, yet the television signal has been non-existent for going on 3 months now. This could be a perfectly fine gym except for these issues and the fact that the front desk staff seems to completely not care about anything brought to their attention and there is never a manager to speak with, either in person or by phone.

Pretty sizeable for a Planet Fitness, and it's in a great location (Lesley campus). Equipment is decent but I wish staff cared about cleaning and replacing sanitary items.

This is a great place to work out. I’ve been a member now for almost 3 months and it really has given me the tools to succeed. If you have a bit extra to spend, get the black card. You can bring a guest every day and use the hydro tables and massage chairs. I was skeptical about the extra cost until I tried the hydro table, I don’t know a lot of folks here so it was about the in gym perks for me. The staff is fantastic and very friendly and the gym stays pretty clean. My only wish would be that you could rent a monthly locker and not have to bring your workout gear with you each time. A major plus for any LGBTQ folks, with the exception of one other guest being rude, the gym is extremely trans friendly, they even have trash cans in the mens stalls. I’ve also noticed they’re awesome with all of the LGBTQ community, but being trans myself, I found the extra touch in the bathroom commendable.

Really small compared to other PF gyms, which makes sense given the location, but there's so much broken equipment here, and it never gets fixed. Sinks and toilets are constantly out of order, as is at least one of the massage chairs. Not worth the full price of a black card membership if this is going to be your home gym.

You need more Smith machines!!! You may have to wait for up to an hour to bench while many cardio machines barely get used. You could add free weight benches with a bar and plates. Five stars are for the price and cleanliness because it does the job at a reasonable price.

Facilities seem clean. They don’t have barbells which is unfortunate. They also don’t let you cancel over the phone — only over mail or in person. Super inconvient because I moved away from the location. Fine if you’re on a budget, though so many better options…

Good range of equipment and helpful front desk staff. I have used a couple of other planet fitness locations. The experience was no different. For the location, the cost is low and it's an efficient means of getting a workout in. I will definitely suggest the club and this location to other friends

    1) As of yesterday, there were five doors to lockers in the men's locker room that were missing. Some of them have been missing for weeks now. Why do I have a feeling that someone is smashing the doors to steal people's stuff? And what's the wait to have them replaced? Do they not care? Also, why am I hearing that they cannot track a robber who stole money by smashing into a locker? Do the incompetent employees and/or owners like want me to cancel my membership? 2) IDK if this is Planet Fitness's fault, but next to the small parking lot (only about 25 spaces are dedicated to PF members) is a much larger parking lot that NO ONE uses. May someone please change that?

It's always SO HOT. Gyms should be kept at a temperature to where you feel slightly cold before you start working out, but this location is always overly warm from the second you walk in the door, whether it's summer or winter. This can make it a really miserable workout experience and can even be nauseating. This isn't a problem at other PF locations, so I assume it's that the staff sets it at a particular temperature

  • 4/5 Porter C. 9 months ago on Google
You need to remember you get what you pay for. $25 is too much for $10 is good. Paper towels go empty, plenty of social akward people, and also those who lack hygiene, no special classes really or perks. Massage chairs are OK but don't get any knots out just pressure really. Staff is chill, sometimes aloof. Usually a few machines are broken down but I've always been able to work out, just sometimes I have to chose a different area than I planned. Not a gym for serious gym rats. But I'm glad it exists, it's gets the job done.

The equipment is ALWAYS broken and they make absolutely no effort to fix it. The manager is never there to speak to about this and the staff don’t have any control over it. I only go here as a secondary gym because they have quality stair masters. Two out of the three have been broken for months. It’s absolutely unacceptable that I pay for a membership when they can’t even be bothered to maintain working equipment.

  • 1/5 Spencer P. 2 years ago on Google
They put my bank account information under another person's membership. I am being charged for another person's membership due to their administrative mistake. I have gone in person asking them to stop charging my bank account four times. Each time they have told me I would be contacted and I have not heard a word. Do not go to this gym. They will not stop charging you.

Planet fitness has the dumbest way to remove yourself from the account. Never become a member, it’s like pulling teeth to remove yourself they just want your money. I don’t even live in Massachusetts and they are still charging me. Again, please don’t become a member at planet fitness! Omg they don’t even have saunas they would rather send radiation thru your body and kill ya cells anyways😩 omg no

You should definitely join this gym. I could not be happier with what they offer for my membership. The price is so reasonable and I can travel anywhere in the US and always seem to find a gym within 20 minutes. I am able to bring a guest with me every time I go if I wish. There is plenty of equipment so even at peak hours I am not waiting for a machine or weights or even a mat. I particularly like having a rower and upright bike stair stepper, step circuit, and range of free weights. I appreciate the no judgement slogan and absolutely feel welcome in every gym.

Seriously, don't ignore the 1 star reviews, they're all saying the same things, and they have been for a while. This is definitely the worst planet fitness I've ever been to. The water fountain is always broken, the ventilation is bad, and they mask the smell by spraying tons of fragrance. Good luck if you have asthma. Without fail there's always folks camping on the express workout machines and maybe 1/5 of the customers wipe down their machines after use. The staff are nice and there's a ton of equipment, but the place is just kinda gross and mismanaged.

I just woke up this morning to a charge on my account for planet fitness. I haven't been in the building in over a year maybe too. Someone inside of this building has stolen my information and is charging my account. This is not the first time it's happened. I've had to argue about drinks being charged in my account hours after I was there.

Cambridge/ Mass Ave. Massachusetts. This location is super Dusty and and unclean, below is the pictures to where I was working out close to this afternoon. The bathroom are nasty, and the dusts are everywhere. The staff at the desk tried to clean time to time during their shift at the desk, and During the time of the workout with a bleach product!!!!!!! I spoke with the manager a month ago regarding the cleanliness, and he said that he just hired a cleaning company that will clean during the night time, so at the morning we will have cleaned environment, but still I can’t see that. The staff are nice and sweet but they can’t do it all. This location needs to hire a company to property clean the gym as the gym is located in the basement, and cleaning with a bleach product make all the gym smell like bleach, and it’s not good for the people with allergies !! By the way I’ve been in this gym for one year and a half and I love the location, and I love the stuff ! everything is great just the cleanliness part. The gym should be a clean environment!!that’s where the we relax . please address this issue

I hate to be that person but the employees working right now are lazy and unaccommodating. I slipped on the treadmill because it was washed without being dried and I asked the staff if they could dry it and she declined. I appreciate them cleaning but they should dry too.

Wanted to add to my previous review about this location never opening on time and being literally so disgusting and probably failing multiple biohazard tests that definitely switch to another location!!! I stayed for a bit because I figured I’m only paying $10 so what do I expect, but the downtown crossing planet fitness is SO clean, the customer service is so nice, and they’re open 24hours!! So definitely don’t settle just because the cost is low! You can get more bang for your buck at other planet fitness locations in the area!!! I cant believe I put up with this location for so long lol so if you’re looking for a sign to switch this is it!!

Make sure you use a lot of spray to disinfect the machines, and sanitize your hands. I've been coming here 3x a week for 2 months and not once have any of the soap dispensers in the bathroom been working. Weekend hours are short compared to other nearby PF locations. Perfectly fine aside from those two things

  • 3/5 John D. 1 year ago on Google
The gym seems to be consistently under-staffed, and there are never enough towels and cleaning spray. Some machines (for example, one of the rowers) are constantly out of order, and there’s always a lack of soap in the men’s bathroom. I’m a member because it’s cheap, convenient, and never too badly crowded, even during peak hours. However, if a different gym opened nearby with comparable rates I’d strongly consider switching. The Watertown PF is far better.

  • 3/5 Liliane C. 2 years ago on Google
Very hot and they do not turn the AC on. It doesn't matter if it's October. If it's over 75F inside the gym, turn the AC on!!! Also, while I understand Cambridge and its old buildings has plumbing issues- I think the situation in the showers are unacceptable. I've tried different showers and it was all the same. The drains do not work. Disgusting.

  • 5/5 Vineet Y. 2 years ago on Google
They have a lot of equipment. $10 per month for regular workout please take my money. It's a little crowded in the evenings. The staff are good at keeping it clean and knowledgeable staff.

Clean and relatively modern gym. Some may find the underground location suboptimal, but it's well lit.

SUCH a great place! I love how huge this place is! TONS of equipment of all kinds: Weights machines, cardio machines, free weights, a 30 minute circuit area with a light that tells you when to start and stop, a stretching & abs area, large locker rooms, and a Lounge for Black Card membership holders which includes massage chairs, full body hydro massage chairs, and stand up tanning booths. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!
