So here's the deal. I'm Jamaican and the food Simply Irie is serving is down right awful. I bought oxtail and rice and peas. The rice and peas was barely passable. The oxtail - was just plain horrible. They somehow thought it a good idea to fill it with sugar. If seemed it like they were correcting a salt issue and dumped sugar in it to correct it. Made the whole thing worse. Added to that it was very tough. This is not my first time going to Simply Irie and I'm now convinced they don't know how to cook Jamaican food. I pray they will get a good chef. I know one if they want to reach out to me. Sorry, but I have to be truthful here. Hopefully they won't take offence, but will take steps to make it better. One Love

Located in downtown Calgary, Simply Irie is a pleasant little restaurant that brings a taste of vibrant Caribbean culture to Alberta. From the bright white and yellow interior, to their friendly staff, right of the bat you’ll notice how welcoming the restaurant is. The atmosphere inside is really great, although, I do wish they played more Caribbean music! Their menu is also rather large compared to other Caribbean restaurants I’ve visited in North America. To start, my friends and I tried the Jamaican Patty and the Chicken Roti. I really enjoyed the Jamaican Patty actually, it was a little different compared to the more common yellow patties. The Chicken roti was not bad as well, the curry flavour was great. For entrees, we ordered the large Oxtail and large Jerk Chicken Platters. Both plates were huge, tasty, and cooked to perfection. The oxtail was beyond tender, and the jerk chicken was moist. My only problem was that I just felt like in both the oxtail and jerk chicken, they used way too much browning. I found that the gravy/sauce in both dishes were rather sweet and not as savoury or spicy as most other oxtail and jerk chicken dishes I have tried. The rice and peas was delicious, but I even felt like the overly sweet gravy took away from the flavour of the rice. It’s by no means horrible, but it’s not my preferred flavour profile. Another thing to note is that there food takes a little while to be prepared. I’ve actually dined in and grabbed take out from them, and on both occasions I felt like the food took longer than expected. Overall, considering it’s tough to find great Caribbean cuisine in western Canada — I would still totally check Simply Irie to explore more of their menu and enjoy a taste of the tropical islands. 🏝

First time going to simply Irie and wow what an experience. We sat outside in the patio which was such a delight. The staff from the moment we arrived to the moment we left Never skipped a beat in making our experience such an enjoyable one. Management came outside to ask if we needed the heaters on as it was a bit chilly and that blew us with hotel much they cared about there customers. The food was so great and fresh we ended up trying different dishes and carrying home a lot as well. Perfectly centred with their location downtown and be sure to visit and experience the food and the culture of the Caribbean.

This might actually be one of Canada's best Jamaican restaurants ... coming from Toronto where Jamaican / Caribbean restaurants are plenty and maybe over saturated in some respects ... Simply Irie in Calgary stands among the top 3 places I have been to eat ... surely this place needs more recognition ... THE CUSTOMER SERVICE IS A1 / the food 10/10 / ate here about 5 times now ... consistency is top notch / jerk chicken rice and peas ... curry goat rice and peas... the patties man oh man ... THE PATTIES !!! favourite spot to eat food in Calgary ... MAKE SURE YOU GO AND VISIT !!!

This Jamaican food was delicious. Size and price are fair. The music, colours, and everything there make you feel you are in Jamaica. Servers are friendly and the place is clean. They have many options to choose from and I will definitely will go back.

**A Symphony of Caribbean Flavors: A Sojourn to Simply Irie** Nestled in the heart of Calgary on 6th Street is 'Simply Irie,' an ode to the Caribbean's aromatic and vivacious culinary landscape. The first symphony to grace the senses is the immediacy of flavors; dishes like the curry goat and Jamaican beef patties speak of sun-soaked isles, of age-old recipes passed down through generations. The food is, undeniably, a fresh breath of the tropics in Calgary’s urban tapestry. It comes with the promise of authenticity and a hint of nostalgia for those acquainted with Caribbean cuisine. The swift dance of service, however, occasionally falters. A mix-up in the ballet of orders led to chicken stepping in for the goat's role. Although gracefully corrected, it struck a minor discordant note in an otherwise melodious experience. The establishment's ambiance is a confluence of warmth and Caribbean charm, with décor that transports one to the sun-kissed beaches and rhythm-filled nights of the islands. The soft hum of chatter and the clinking of glasses add to the immersive dining escapade. Yet, as in any composition, there are moments of pause – a crescendo waiting to reach its zenith. The restrooms, though fundamentally clean, echo the carelessness of a few patrons. It was here that I found myself playing custodian, not out of obligation, but as a tribute to the hard-working souls of Simply Irie. A silent sonnet of gratitude, if you will. With a score of three out of five stars, Simply Irie isn't just another eatery; it's a narrative of the Caribbean, with chapters still waiting to be perfected. While it may benefit from a pinch more zest in its dishes, more attentive service, and consistent cleanliness, it remains the magnum opus of Caribbean dining in Calgary. In this culinary theatre, I would reserve a seat again, eager to witness the unfolding act of Simply Irie's gastronomic ballet.

I went there yesterday. I ordered the Tofu Curry dish and it was super excellent. I got almost three meals out of it! My partner had the jerk chicken meal and he said it was amazing! The lovely young lady at the counter was....lovely! The food was fresh, the place is super clean and has a great vibe! Thank you Simply Irie, I will be back!

Every time I’m in Calgary, Simply Irie is the place I go for the best West Indian food outside of the Caribbean. Whether it’s the jerk chicken, oxtail or curry chicken, although I know what it’s going to taste like, every bite is a shock to the senses (in a good way) and I just can’t stop until the plate is clean. Everyone working there from the ever present owner, to the girls up front are always eager to provide a consistent and delicious product! No matter if you want to just grab a patty and run, or sit down for a huge portion you won’t be disappointed!

Visited from Toronto and ordered with my sister, hubby and nephew. We were impressed for a few reasons (in no particular order) 1. The service was amazing! They were friendly, courteous and we had a good banter with the owner/manager. Perhaps the best service I've seen at a Jamaican restaurant. 5 stars for excellent service. 2. Very nice patio for outdoor dining. The restaurant was clean and very inviting. 3. Very good/wide selection of patties!! There's the regular beef etc but there's also ackee and saltfish and a beyond meat patty for vegetarians. They were all delish! 3. The food was tasty and the serving size was good. We ordered escovitch fish, oxtail, jerk chicken and jerk wings, beef, ackee and saltfish and beyond meat patties. Oooh, side plantains of fried breadfruit is a winner! The only downside is that the meals and patties were a bit pricey. Oxtail runs you a cool $23. Perhaps this is the norm for Calgary. Outside of the price it was an overall great experience. I would visit again!

So good! Had such a great experience here. Restaurant is bright and clean. Staff are friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. The starters were delicious! The dumplings we crispy, but not greasy. The doubles were my favorite! Full of flavor could have eaten more of them. Plantain was really good. I then had the goat curry which was tender and full of flavor. Cannot wait to go back and try everything else. Photos do not do this place justice...just go!

Sorry for the half-eaten food, I was really hungary before I took these photos. My fiancee and I came here for lunch on Sunday, and we were craving for soup and decided to order their chicken soup. It was really hearty and you can tell that its made from scratch and has great depth of flavour. One thing to comment is that the music is a little bit loud. It rumbles your brain as you are trying to eat... so maybe they can turn it down a bit! Overall a great experience!

It was our first time here today and we ordered the soup, spicy fries, plantains, and 2 of the Tofu Jerk Entrees. The food was excellent and the service was on point. We will definitely be back. Greetings from us High River 👊

Terrific Caribbean food, cosy atmosphere and lovely people! Growing up in a Trini family means a deep appreciation for the delicious cuisine of the island, which has been hard to find in Calgary (- at least good examples of it!) if you’re on a similar quest, make sure you head to Simply Irie - great, GENEROUS, portions and many great Trinidad and other Caribbean favourites. The lovely staff is just the icing on the cake. Terrific Roti, curry and Jamaican stew chicken (which is similar to Trini fricasee). Highly recommended!

We stopped by Simply Irie for a lunch visit today. The staff are super friendly, warm and made good conversation with us. The bathrooms were clean and nice too. We ordered the Oxtail with rice and beans, a beef patty, spicy fries and jerk chicken. For drinks we had rum and Ting, a rum punch and a Red Stripe. Our food came very quickly! The food was delicious and reminded us of Jamaica! I love Oxtail and was so happy to get to have it again, very savoury and tender. The patty was great with the side of brown sauce. The drinks were a great accompaniment to the food. Nothing like a cold Red Stripe to cool the burn from the spicy fries, they were really hot! We ordered jerk sauce to go as we loved it. The staff even included a sample of their pepper sauce for us to take home. Thank you so much Simply Irie for the fun lunch.

My partner and I absolutely LOVE coming here and drive in from the outskirts of NW Calgary to enjoy the amazing cuisine. We could not speak more highly about the food (which is super flavorful and delicious) but the staff is what truly makes this place special. So warm, and welcoming, and giving great recommendations on different food combos to try (special thanks to Fae who is always so kind with us and all her other patrons). We absolutely recommend coming and enjoying a visit here - it's very much worth it!

I’m a novice when it comes to Caribbean food, but I was well guided by the young man behind the counter. I was introduced to jerk chicken with rice and peas. Oh my. Delicious, fresh, home cooking. Beats fast food any day. Regular serving size is generous. I would come here again and again if I lived in Calgary.
