We wanted something different while on a staycation in downtown. The chicken Momo was recommended by a good friend, and so we took the opportunity to try it. We ordered take out to bring back to dine in our hotel suite. Along with the Chicken Momo (steamed) we also ordered Lamb Momo, Lamb and Spinach curry and Mustang Wings (Sweet & Spicy). The momos were better than advertised - the fillings was very generous. The dipping sauces served with them were delicious and paired well. Of note, the spice level we opted for was mild - there was almost no spice, so if you may want to up the spice level if you enjoy spicy food. The Lamb & Spinach curry was one of the best curry dishes we've had in a long time. All was balanced, lamb was tender and the spinach plentiful. The Mustang wings were ok. Mostly sweet and not too much spice (mild option). They were like a solid pub-style fried chicken wing. All in all a wonderful meal and we look forward to a return visit. Of note: we first tried to order via Doordash, but was unable to do so. We then called in our order for pick up and there were no issues with that.

The food and service was great. It was my first time visiting on a weekday evening and I wasn't familiar with a lot of items on the menu. The staff helped me select something that we thought I would enjoy. Really appreciated their time and patience with me. Wait time was reasonable as well. Portions were quite generous and well packed (for take away). Food tasted great! There were definitely other things on the menu that I had wanted to try -- will try that next time! The only iffy part was that I saw staff picking up a piece of frozen cake directly with her hands to put in a box to pack away. I assume they had clean hands while picking it up, but it's still a little off-putting to see a piece of cake being man-handled.

It's the only place i know that serves Himalayan dishes here in Down town Vancouver. This was my 3rd visit to this restaurant. The first two experience i had were good. This third time though is just average. Food were okay ish if i compare it to other ethnic dishes that serves curries. Let me start with the cocktail drinks we had...they were serve not cold and ice is rapidly melting. Its wasn't the best and could have been improved more. We had the DD and Yogi's. The appies were okay as well. It was tasty but waiter didnt tell us that the two appies we ordered are going to be pretty similar dish. So we ended up eating two appies that are sort of similar. Then for the main dishes, we ordered creamy chicken and spinach Lamb curries. They're not very warm when served. But they are otherwise tasty. I would otherwise opt for regular spicy and not medium spicy as they are not spicy at all. The lintel soup that came with the dish are good and taste refreshing. I finished it in no time. The naan bread however was not the best at all. It arrive partly heated, and when we had our first bite, i knew right then that it was not warmed on grill but it was heated using a microwave because of how tough and chewy it was. I complained and requested it replaced with grilled one. The new naan that arrived were very soft a and palatable compared the first one. Overall the total experience was satisfactory but it could have been rated higher if there were more attention to details on the food served. The interior design of the restaurant could be improved well if the decors were updated and more stylish, hang some mirrors to make the place bigger as there are no windows and make this tiny restaurant feel more claustrophobic.

Good Nepali/Tibetan place, had a very airy yet authentic touch to its ambience. Had their lamb momos, which were good and was their Taas, which was boneless lamb strips with puffed rice was also good. Service was fast and good as well. Situated in a second floor in the vibrant Davies Village.

Went here for the first time for dine out 2024. Food was very tasty and full of flavour. Portions were pretty good for the price as well.

I really really want to support this restaurant, but food was beyond bad. I have tasted almost 80 Nepalese restaurants in Canada. Service was quick and good. We got many things. But let’s talk about the Yak momos first. The filling didn’t taste Nepali, there was a offset flavour of Indian spices and yet bland. The momo’s were either freezer burnt, or overcooked and dry from the top. The chutneys that came with it also had no balance and were missing salt. Tomato chutney wasn’t also good in flavour. The momo’s themselves were barely warm then the thali came with the goat, which wasn’t goat but lamb. As a food critic you can tell the difference. It was just spice, lacked the browning of onions which tells you the difference between a cook who actually understands the cuisine. It was a shortcut, tomato purée lamb bhuna. The lamb was dry as a bush. Please notice the picture. The dal was missing salt. The greens were quite good however. The food tasted overall as if there was no love and flavour in it. You have to spend time tasting food as it goes out, and just like all bad meals I have had at Indian restaurants- this one lacked consistency in every angle. Food was not even closely upto the mark. In covid it’s rough already, with so many similar options around you have to do better for those prices. Even with an expensive rent. I really hope business matches it prior standards

I wish I could give more than 5 stars to the place. The dumbbells here are great I would have re-ordered it immediately. The okra platter is also perfect. The place is humble, cosy and friendly.

Absolutely delicious!!! Wow very unique but soooooo delicious can’t recommend it enough. Get the momos in the sauce!! Unreal. Also had puffed rice salsa, jackfruit curry, and Tibetan bread which were all absolutely fantastic. A must try!!

Service was great. Food was delicious. Ordered a traditional platter to share and an appetizer and it was too much food but I highly recommend stuffing yourself with it! If you're in Vancouver, this place is a must for Nepalese food (yum!). Try their steamed dumplings (lamb were amazing), and you will not regret it. Amazing back patio with very chill atmosphere. Music was nice and not too loud to have a peaceful conversation. I will definitely return to this spot on Davie Street!

This restaurant came up when I googled resturants near me while I was visiting Vancouver. I had never tried Nepalese and thought I would give it a go. Absolutely amazing food, it was fresh and perfectly balanced. I especially liked that I could customize my spice level, my dad and I ordered different spice levels and they were both exactly what we asked for. I liked that when I sampled my dads dish (hot) that the burn did not linger. They also have great vegetarian and vegan options. I would 100% recommend this place.

We came to this restaurant for the first time based on google reviews. The food was just average but the wait time for food (after getting seated) is high. We ordered several things starting from the drinks which had more water and less of the juices/spirits, jhol chicken momos were cold from inside (since the server got ours and someone else’s order together, so I’m sure not if ours were cooked and waiting), chicken chili momos were good but they could’ve been hot (temperature wise) as well, chicken chowmein was again average, chatpate (rice puffs) were missing so many ingredients as compared to the traditional recipe.

This place is a hidden gem on Davie! Although I haven’t tried their meat dishes, they have lots of both vegan and vegetarian options, which I adore. We sat on the patio, which is a must, especially while summer lasts. It has a casual date night vibe and is relatively quiet because it’s not facing the road. Food was well priced, leaving my partner and I full for around $30. Portions are a decent size too! Bamboo shoots was delicious, I’d say it’s a must try vegan option, while okra was decent. I have no complaints and am definitely coming back!

A cozy restaurant located on Davie Street with a friendly staff. We asked them to rotate the table to had a better view than they did kindly. The food was good enough according to the price. We ordered goat and lamb curry with rice and bread that was pretty delicious and well cooked, but the fried wings were overcooked and stiff.

Gurkha restaurant offers a high quality of Nepalese food. As a momo enthusiast, trying momo was always on the cards for me. The momo was cooked to perfection. We tried the deep fried momo and the sides served with it - schezwan chutney and green chutney just complemented it so well. The next dish was Nepali fish chilli. It felt like a pull off from Chilli chicken ( indo-chinese dish). But saying that, the spices used were authentic from the Nepali cuisine. For the main course we had, Nepali bhajan ( chicken based main course). We were served, chicken curry, spinach based side dish and Nepalese lentil soup. The Nepalese lentil soup shocked me as it was resembling the Dal lentil soup which is served in the Indian sub continent. We also had garlic prawns, this had a soupy texture and the prawns were cooked in the spicy broth. The cooking of prawns in the broth caused them to be cooked in a soft way. So when we tasted the prawns, it felt as if they were just boiled. But, the spices played their role exceptionally well. The ambience of the place was that of a retro Nepalese Downtown restaurant. The house also serves drinks of variety that will go down very well with the Nepalese appetizers.

The food was good, price is on point. Momo jhol and their naan bread is probably my favourite, but everything was very good. Definitely worth a try if you haven't had it before. Full disclosure I don't have much experience with Nepalese food except for a few skewers and momos here and there. Similar that there are curries, but it's not Indian food so the spices are different. Great for those that don't like strong spices. And for the others just don't compare the two as it's not the same country. Service was a bit sparse but people were nice. It's a small little place so the seating was a bit awkward for a large group. Overall I had a good experience.

Went here for an early dinner and the food was absolutely delicious! The restaurant was quiet as we were the only ones there for majority of the time but we could tell they were doing lots of takeout orders. We got chicken momos, shrimp chowmein, lamb curry and creamy chicken curry The food was PACKED with flavour. The dumplings (momos) were filled to the brim with chicken. Every bite was so delicious we managed so eat this all between just two people!!! Our server was the absolute sweetest and we could tell she put in 100% effort. DO NOT SLEEP ON THIS RESTAURANT IT IS SO GOOD! The restaurant is on the second floor so if mobility/stairs is an issue, be aware. The decor is out-dated but the service and food make up for it

Food was delicious, but the service was kinda weird. Walked in and had to wait for someone to come out the back for a bit, a guy eventually showed up then made a big fuss about us not having a reservation despite the restaurant obviously being almost entirely empty. There was literally only one other group there and they were about to leave, had to actually ask "you're joking right?" While looking around at the whole empty restaurant. Eventually got seated but not after making it clear how inconvenient this was for him. Really weird. After that service improved, a different server came out and we interacted with her for the rest of the evening. Only at the end of the evening did she disappear and we had to interact with the guy again, who had to be asked a few times before almost reluctantly bringing us our bill. It was just .. strange? Not really sure what to make of it.

Absolutely amazing food ! We got the chowmein, chilli chicken, chicken momos and goat bhojan thaali. Every item was delicious. Highly recommend the goat bhjona thaaki, the goat was scrumptious and falling apart, nicely cooked with spices. The chowmein was my second favourite.

Came in for lunch. Dined out on the back patio; the table had a view of Davie so it was great for people watching. Extremely professional and courteous service. He walked me through the different items on the plate and explained dishes when I asked. I had the traditional plate with goat 🐐. It came with a yellow lentil soup, spinach & potatoes, papadam, basmati rice, naan, raita, and a coconut rice pudding. Definitely one of the better goat curries that I’ve had (and I’ve tried several); excellent spice level and flavour. Highly recommend to come and try their dishes. The traditional plate is a great way to try a variety but you can’t go wrong a la carte either.

The food here is absolutely incredibly delicious, the portion sizes are generous, it is priced very well, and the staff are so warm. I give the chef my highest regard, in saying that the food tasted like my mom's cooking. This place is a gem! I would appreciate if the bathrooms are cleaner and more functional.

I tried this place for a couple of times when I was in Vancouver. There are seating options inside and outside. Very pleasant environment, respectful staffs, vegetarian /vegan friendly, and really authentic Nepali food. Must try if you are in Vancouver!

We were greeted with smiles when we walked into the restaurant. We sat at the cozy homey patio in the back. None of us have Himalayan food before. We ordered three authentic dishes recommended. They were freshly made and very delicious. We will go back and try some more.

Fantastic food here. I’ve passed by this place plenty of times and always wanted to go. We got the Chili momos, Himalayan fries as a side, and chicken chow mein. Medium spice for all and it was suuuuppeerrr spicy but incredibly delicious. Definitely recommend coming here (I’ll get mild next time). They also gave me a free dessert because it was my birthday!

My firsttime having Nepalese food and I was so impressed. I followed other reviews and ordered the chicken momo jhol style bc-spice level 2 lol. They were delicious, my bestie and I devoured them. The poor waitress was training and looked overwhelmed but she was the absolute sweetest so no hard feelings, we’ve all been there. We also got the curry meal, I got goat and my friend had chicken. Both were very tasty but the momo were the star. We giggled that our hard ciders came with ice and a straw. Is that a Canadian thing? Lol over all super tasty and would come again.

My husband and I really enjoyed the vegetarian momo (johl style), bamboo curry, jackfruit curry and coconut rice pudding. The back patio was very nice on a cool summer evening. The service was a bit slow, but everybody was very nice and the food was worth it!

Amazing food!! Loved the chili momos and drinks here, as well as the chow mein. Lots of vegetarian options which is very helpful. My friends and I like the traditional dessert selection, particularly the rasmalai!

A very quaint place with a beautiful and unique interior, excellent service and terrific food. The portions are large and well worth the price. I had the dumplings and the goat plate.

I've been there a month ago to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday, and still need to think about this delicious experience. Food was great, the patio was magical and completely empty and restaurant was nice and clean. The most outstanding was the server's attitude. Tisha was very kind and friendly. We all had good times. I am looking forward to come again.

I have been a vegetarian for almost a decade and this is hands down some of the best food I’ve ever had. The tofu momos were DELICIOUS and the bamboo shoots, omg! A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. My fiancé ordered the goat curry and he loved it. We also got some delicious naan and Tibetan bread. Surya, our server, was very nice and polite from the beginning and he also recommended several dishes. We will come back to Vancouver just for this restaurant! The vibes, music, and indoor design are a plus too; very beautiful and serene. Y’all deserve a sixth star!

As i sat, eating my meal at this restaurant, a couple called the owner over and said this was the best food they’ve ever had in Vancouver. I just want to balance that out a bit. The goat curry was far from being traditional and was mediocre at best, the lentil soup and the mango lassi were disgusting. The momos were decent. I’d probably go here again at some point but it’s a pretty average place in my opinion.

Another good take-out meal from Gurkha! Kept it a bit lighter tonight with Chicken Momos, Fish Tareko and Mixed Veg and Papad. All good!

Thank you for the great Nepali/Gurkha/Himalayan food. Missed momos for so long yum! The dal and the curries were perfect, just like home cooked.

This is second time we came here. Friday around 7:10pm arrived, they are sooo busy at patio but wasn’t inside. We decided dining in, got seat really quick. We are able to order after ca.10min. cause they were too busy. After ordering we received drink quick but food was after 35-40min…almost thought that they forgot us…but I guess they were tooooooo busy… food-wise is O.K. but Okra one is just soso…at the end the owner(I guess) said sorry for waiting this long…generally feeling is ok.

Wanted to take my friend out for a different culinary experience. The reviews alone were helpful, but the food, service and atmosphere solidified their stars! Didn't have a reservation but on a busy Friday night we were seated within 10 minutes. Food was amazing!!! Had the puffed rice salad, the vegetarian momos, cauliflower curry and the goat curry. Everything was delicious! I do love spicy food, but I did struggle with the "kick it up hot" request!! It made for an entertaining evening!! Will definitely return here! Service with smile and very attentive!! Great experience!
