Sometimes the "foodie" sites miss the important restaurants and Emara Antojitos Yucatecos is an important restaurant. If you're tired of the "5 star" (overpriced and boring) restaurants in the hotel zone then head on over to Mercado 28 and try the offerings at this hidden local gem. But bring a group because you'll probably want to try (share) everything on the menu! Our small group ordered (see pix) Sopa De Limon - using sour chicken and lemons this palate cleansing soup will replace the taste of the hotel zone with "pure love"! Relleno Negro - Chicken and beef stuffed into a "black sausage" made from grilled chilies and a spice mixture, with just enough heat to open your taste buds (not too hot). Papadzules - (I wish we could have come back one morning to try this for breakfast). Warm tortillas covered with chopped eggs and a spice blend including ground pumpkins seeds - the whole thing bathed in tomato and pipian sauces. Cochinita Pibil - yes other local restaurants offer this dish - BUT how many of them make it the traditional way (steamed underground for 24 hours!) Vaporcito - this confection is made from steamed corn dough spiced with achiote, filled with pork and wrapped with banana leaves. Nuff said. Empanadas - Well I have had empanadas in many latin countries and until now, the best were (in my opinion) in Spain. Not anymore: ours were stuffed with minced meat but you can choose from quite an array of meaty and cheesy options. Yumm! And the prices...Our entire meal (including drinks) was about $30! Better yet - stay in the hotel zone and keep this gem for the locals!

Great traditional yucatan dishes are all served here at one place and at a very reasonable price(215 pesos -under $13 USD for nonalcoholic drink, main meal, and dessert). They have all the dishes and drinks one needs to experience regional foods without going around the city looking for these dishes at various resturants. Too bad I discovered this place on my last night, or else I would have eaten here almost every night. Also if you come in after 4 pm chances are some of their popular dishes will be sold out. Overall I highly recommend this place.

Excellent food, clean bathroom, friendly staff. Had the chicken lime soup and it was absolutely delicious. Plus even though it was hot, eating this soup helped me tolerate the heat better. Attaching menus for reference

This place is pure nourishment. I am staying nearby and needed a hearty meal. I saw this place packed with Mexicans, so I knew it was going to be delicious. I eat here a lot. So much that they just bring me a bowl of sopa de lima when I sit down. Today they didn't have it so I had rhe comsomé de pollo instead, also perfectly flavored. I've also tried a few of the different types of tamales and empenadas. The tamales are massive. The empenadas are pretty greasy but tasty all the same. Seek this place out for authentic Yucatecan when you are here. Depending on the hour you may have some people come thru trying to sell you crafts - it's across the street from Mercado 28 - but on a whole they aren't loud or pushy about it. If you aren't interested just say no thank you and be kind, everyone needs to eat.

Another great lunch find in Cancun! Small, local traditional spot serving large portions. Highly recommend papadzules, panucho de pollo, tamales, and panucho de cochinita. Agua de jamaica was super refreshing on this hot day! There are a lot of great things on menu, if you are not sure what to order - I believe they have a sampler set menu. This way, can try smaller versions of their top sellers.

The Sopa de Lima, cochinita pibil, and tamale were excellent. Service was great even though we speak little Spanish.

The food was fantastic! A great local Mexican restaurant, and a good way to experience the yacatan food off the beaten path. The food was also priced very well. Get their starters, they are especially great. -1 star 🌟 due to the fact that some of the menu's had the "wrong prices" when I was given the check. Beware also they are cash only.

Make sure to take your id Incase you are paying with credit card aside from that the taste is delicious the tamales and sopa de Lima. If you are curios like me and want to be safe you can try Kibi this kind of falafel made out of meet that is sell in most of the public beaches in Cancun, taste is ok, the tamal vaporito was more rich in taste.

This place is in another level, it’s been in business for facades and their food quality does not change. It gets better and better to be honest! If you are looking for authentic antojitos yucatecos this is your spot in Cancun, Mexico. Very clean, friendly and owners always on site to make you feel comfortable. I ordered a mix of their menu to enjoy everything they offered. Their portions sizes are great and set at local affordable prices. Hope you visit and support local small businesses vs chains and hotels. This is the real Mexico you want to find when you visit cancun. Have fun and keep on eating! #chicocares

Yummy food and drinks! Reasonable prices. Very close to Mercado 28. There were a few options for vegetarians as well!

First visit on our Taco Tour. We were excited to taste authentic tacos, and everyone was hungry, so these fit the bill. Very straightforward tacos, beef, and chicken on corn tortillas. I tried a jorcheta drink first time and found the taste to be interesting. The atmosphere was basic and was not crowded, so our table of 6 could sit right away.

Has traditional Yucatan dishes at a good price. They were good but not great, a bit on the salty side.

We reached this place around 7pm and it was almost closing time but they still entertained us though a lot of items were over by then. Advice reach early. We tried the papadzules which was delicious so so good!! It has boiled eggs inside the wrap and the sauce was made out of papita and was surprisingly lovely! We also ordered the Longaniza de Valladolid. It was also good to taste. For 250$ peso it was great meal! The owner is very cordial. The food is tasty. Highly recommend!
