Hamburgers and assorted sides are pretty good, but go here mostly for the ice cream... The ice cream sundaes are excellent. The salted pecan toppings are amazing with unbelievably generous portions too. Photo shows a brownie sundae with pecans, skip the whipped cream. Best sundae in NE Ohio!

Fantastic classic ice cream and classic lunch fair. Would love to come back. The Chicago dog was one of the best I had with the cross cut dog on a grilled bun.

Would I eat here again? Yes Based on a recommendation from a friend who used to live in Canton, we stopped here after a visit to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. It is an old school diner and I was waiting for Marty McFly to walk in at any minute. The food was good, the prices were great and the ice cream was delicious. The Bittner was worth the trip. If you are in the area for the HOF, do yourself a favor and stop into Canton’s famous diner.

Wow. Little corner shop we've never heard of before. We had just purchased a vehicle out this way and were unfamiliar with our surroundings but it was a nice day for some cold ice cream. I googled ice cream shops around me, and most were your regular chain type spots, so this popped up and we thought we'd check it out. Even with no place to park but where ever you could grab it, so worth looking for a spot. We were greeted by a friendly face and seated immediately. I ended up getting their grilled chicken sandwich which although super basic on toasted white bread with a little lettuce and onion, super good ! To top that off, I got one scoop of chocolate and one scoop of *green* mint chocolate chip. Wow, it was that homemade ice cream where you could taste the little grainy particals and the flavor just lingered on your tongue until the next bite. What a great spot and so glad we went off the beaten path for this place before heading back home.

Came for the first time since I was a little kid. This is an awesome spot for old fashioned ice cream. They also serve food which I can't really chime in on. We got pretzel bites which were ok. BUT the ice cream is made on site as well as the whipped cream. It is old school and delicious! They have a bittner which is from the 30s and is very yummy. Definitely worth a visit for a blast to the past :)

Taggarts only needs a one word review... Bitner If you haven't had one, get one. If you have, then you know! Of course, the Taggart Salad sandwich was great, the tangy coleslaw very tasty, and the prices are great. And did I mention... Bitner? 😀 Sorry, no picture of the Bitner. Once I pickup the spoon, there's no stopping for a photo.

This place was recommended by a friend so I wandered over there before the HOF game to grab some food (anything better than stadium food, right?). Server was fantastic (sorry, don’t remember his name), fried pickles were enormous and tasty, hot dog was delish, and the Bittner was the perfect dessert to wash it all down with. If I’m ever in Canton again, I’m going back.

This ice cream shop is exactly what it is... it's iced flavored cream! Is freaken phenomenal! Couple table outside to sit so it can be dog friendly. I had to get my ice cream to go, but the ones they made for people dinning in had me drooling before I even tried it.

The food is pretty good and our orders are almost always correct. The peanut butter fudge ice cream is delicious, and so are the brownies... My only complaint would be the doneness of the burgers. I've ordered medium and medium rare, but they are always well done (medium well, at best).

A must site to visit if you want to ride on a canal boat for a short distance. Check the schedule as in off season it is open only on weekends.

Come here often for canal boat rides. The staff and boat crew are helpful and informative.

  • 4/5 Tara S. 5 years ago on Google
Slow paced but well thought through and executed. A great local history adventure. Very educational and also interesting. I only gave it four stars because my 7 and 5 year old asked how much longer about 5 min into the boat ride. The pace of the boat (although completely legit and understandable) was a bit slow for them:)

A Canton institution! Great coneys, soups, burgers, olive nut sandwiches, Tuna melts, among other things. Best vanilla ice cream ever, we go there just for their Vanilla ice cream, and that's not my go to ice cream flavor normally. We love their Buckeye Sundae and Chocolate Covered Cherry Sundae, worth a trip just for these. The kids love the Unicorn Sundae. Still our favorite!

A Great place, huge servings, go there hungry instead of after a meal for dessert. A canton landmark that everyone who likes ice cream will enjoy . Butter pecan with whole pecans I have never had before I went here. Delicious..Delicious 😋

Had their French Onion Soup on Monday, 8/8. Delicious. Every bit as good as I've had from high end restaurants. Price was $2-$3 less than most places. finished off with excellent ice cream.

The only complaint I have (I'm sure) is a common complaint is that parking is difficult to find. With that exception, the service is wonderful, the food is good, and the ice cream is on par with any of the best in town. I highly recommend stopping by, sitting in, or even just grabbing on the go.

Stopped in after visiting the McKinley Monument and Museum. It was clean and our server was great!! The food was really good and the ice cream was a perfect way to end our visit to Canton.

I have been going to Taggart’s with my two son’s for nearly 15 years. Every time was pleasant and friendly. It was always a special place for us to bond and enjoy food and ice cream. Last Thursday we decided to visit for old times sake after being out of town for half of the year. We walked in and saw the sign to wait to be seated. We waited a total of 10 minutes just awkwardly standing there. No greeting, no eye contact, nothing. I asked the young woman in the parlor can we sit down and she rudely said someone with be with you. We waited another minute and decided to leave. This was not the friendly place that we used to know it as. Extremely disappointed. One star for the memories and one star for the Great food and Ice cream.

I always enjoy my times at Taggarts but last night Jimmy was our waiter and he was great. He was on top of checking in always chill and soooo funny. Never did it seem that he was wanting our group of 7 to get out and we were there for a few hrs. Thanks for your staff and care. We appreciate you

Absolutely fantastic ice cream parlor. Been in business for 97 years & that stat speaks volumes. Got the banana split, ginormous & not super sweet.

Thought I would give it another go tonight! The last time I ordered ice cream I did not receive any toppings as ordered. Tonight same thing and also I ordered three scoops of ice cream and received two and a half. I use to love this place time to move on.

Where to start? This place is a gem! Food is good and desserts are spectacular. Prices? Impossible to beat. This diner that's been around since 1926 is a throwback to simpler times. It was a highlight of our trip.

  • 5/5 Cathy H. 5 months ago on Google
Famous for their Bittner Sundae and their Kitchen Sink. Old fashioned ice cream shop with homemade ice cream, sandwiches, appetizers, soups, and monthly specialty sundaes or ice cream. Seating is limited. Booths can be a tight squeeze for larger people and there are only a few tables with chairs. Very busy in the summer and during Hall of Fame week. Street parking only and it can be difficult to find closer parking spots.

  • 5/5 Amy C. 3 years ago on Google
I went here recently with my daughter to get ice cream. I hadn't been here for a little over 15 years. Some places you go to need updates (it would just be nice). Not Taggarts! It is a timeless part of the community's history. You know when you come here that the ice cream is going to be GOOD! Parking is minimal (street parking). There is no handicap parking, but VERY accessible to get in to Taggarts. The staff was very accommodating and patient as we gave them our order. Taggarts is located right in the middle of a residential area, but not far from I-77. It is a hidden gem! If you have a chance to the area, make sure you visit Taggarts!

A local landmark that has some pretty good ice cream. Ask anyone from Canton about Taggarts and they will tell you the same. If you come to our town, don't leave without stopping in.

Never do i leave negative reviews anywhere, i work in the industry and have a distaste for this sort of thing. That being said, items were forgotten on my order, incorrect items in my order as well. Mistakes happen and I get it. What I'm disappointed in was a service issue. We orderd a non-dairy item and it tasted rotten, it was totally inedible. When I brought this up after trying to get the rest of my order corrected i was told there was nothing they would do about it and sorry i don't like the ice cream. I said it wasn't that we didn't like it, it was that it tasted like it had gone bad, my order was wrong in multiple ways we had gone really far out of our way to try it. So I asked for my money back for specifically the item we weren't going to eat. The dude that I am assuming was in charge of the gaggle of kids with the beard was rude, offered me nothing to replace it and basically told me too bad. Poor management, poor food quality, and awful service. Don't subject yourself to it and just go buy icecream at the grocery store.

I admire what this place does by hiring young teenagers, however they need a lot more supervision and training! I watched a kid go to put the scoop of ice cream into a cup and it popped up his hairy arm and he rolled it right into my cup and still tried to serve it to me. I gladly declined that cup and requested someone else make it. They have no respect for masks nor any kind of respectable customer service. They have no regard for food sanitation or cleanliness. I am so sad to see this place make a turn for the worst. Altogether I have sadly stopped going here.

Warm off-the-beaten-path sandwich nook with excellent homemade ice cream. Service was friendly and comfortable. Extensive selection of lunch-type food and appetizers. However, the dessert menu is the star. Everything is homemade. Park on the street and enter for a down-to-earth family eating atmosphere.

There are just so many delicious items to pick from it is difficult to choose. I love the steak sandwich and the Kitchen Sink when it's time for dessert. We also get massive ice cream drumsticks as carryout. One of the gems of Canton.

Pretty much a fun old malt shop feel. Now if only they had Ingredients that weren’t so poor, I’d consider eating here more often. Food is GMO and certainly from Sysco/US Foods, (like 99% of restaurants in our country).
