The beautiful Cape Administrator's residence Leeuwenhof, of which building started with Mr Heems, the first known vryburger of the cape, who obtained the land in order to grow more fresh produce to supplement the Companjes garden, for supply to passing ships. After Heems, Mr Oldeland, an expert botanist, purchased it, who extended buildings, ordered all ships to bring samples of trees from around the world and he then proceeded to lay out the companje's garden as we see it today, and planted arriving plants and trees in the companjes garden. Simon van der stel was sent a letter by the Here 17, pointing out the special talents of mr Oldeland, a world renowned botanist, who started identifying and recording cape fynbos. Mr Oldeland was promptly taken into employment. After him Mr Blessing purchased the property and further enhanced the property. It was Blessing's own final year student son who was the first reported sighting of the "ghostly lady of the residence". This lady still does strange things around the house, as reported by the staff. Strange as it may be, no one seemed scared of any of her doings. Neatly layed out gardens surrounds the dwellings abd outside buildings. Mr Mandela resided there, and his room has been preserved as it was. Our Western Cape premier and his family currently resides there.

It is not a public place, was honoured to attend an event there. It is beautiful with fantastic views of Table Mountain and the cable car.

Leeuwenhof is one of the iconic places to visit. The first Saturday of each month has a free tour of the Slave lodge. Really something great yo see!
