An absolute fave in Cape Town! The vibe is chilled and cool. The service is brilliant: fast and friendly. We enjoyed the food and drink options on the menu. The food was fresh and the drinks were refreshing. Only downside was the location isn’t the nicest on the outside.

Stepping in from the street was like entering another world. It had an authentic feel, a little bit rough but in anticipation of fabulous food. We were not disappointed. Unsure what to order another customer had something that looked delicious. We asked what it was. Her face lit up and said it was so good. Interestingly the only let down was the edamame beans. The rest stopped us in our tracks with amazing flavours and textures. Will definitely be back.

Really nice rooftop bar in the CBD area. Nice variety of cocktails and lots of vegetarian food options along with the more usual Japanese cuisine. Everything tasted great!

Great place to go for a modern Japanese dining experience. The cocktails are tasty and their food is well-made. My friends and I ordered some small plates to share. The Cucumber salad was pretty refreshing and flavourful, just wished the portion was larger for the price. The fried rice balls were pretty bland but went well with the aubergine dish which was tangy and addictive. The mochi balls were very sweet and sticky, give it a try if you're into really sweet desserts.

I would have loved to visit this place but was told that you cannot book and when I called in on Monday to ask if late afternoon Saturday would work for 2 people, I was told it wouldn't be a problem. Would be nice if you could book and not have a first come first serve basis only, really upsetting to drive all the way and look for parking to just be told that you are full

Edit: about a year later, also ended up at the rooftop bar for early evening drinks. Very dependable location, views and vibe that’s been around for years and doesn’t disappoint. Seemed a bit quieter upstairs than I remember it but 🤷‍♂️ Went to the Torii bar downstairs. Really good Japanese food, not impeccable throughout but honestly some of the best you’ll get in Cape Town. Ambiance and decor is fantastic and the range of dishes is also good. Will come back.

Super cool drinks and fun appetizers. The Mochi donuts were the best Mochi donuts ever.

Amazing food, warm and cozy atmosphere and very kind and accommodating staff. 100% recommend their food, especially their crispy rice balls, steamed buns and dumplings.

Wonderful experience. Waiters were very helpful with the menu options and her recommendations were spot on. Great vibe inside, is small so can imagine if they are full it might be a bit tight. The service was fast. We ordered a variety of items and all shared which I would recommend. High light was the ribs, rice balls and the fries. Portions are a bit small for the price but considering it's unique foods "Japanese" inspired we didn't mind the cost.

When I first went into the place I noticed, the restaurant had a unique aesthetic that you would find in very Japanese orientated restaurants. Our waitress was very friendly and I was served immediately upon entering the establishment. The menu had a lot of unique food and drinks from Japan on the menu, and the menu itself look very interesting with a lot of characters from anime, manga and games all on the menu. The only thing I wish I knew before ordering was the specials, I only noticed it when my cousin pointed it out after I had ordered. I ordered a Yakiniku Sirloin Yakitori Bento Box and my cousin ordered Pork Tonkotsu Ramen, the food was exceptional, that's the only word I can describe it as. Especially found it interesting the Spirited Away manga strip by the origanal artist in the upstairs lounge area. Definitely a place I want visit again this year.

Two storey Japanese resturant/bar. The ground floor is small and great for a casual dinning, nothing fancy. The first level has a small bar and a small cozy lounge, great for a small private event. The rooftop has outdoor and a large indoor seating area with a bar and loud music. The food is very good and so is the vibe.

Nom noms! Bento boxes were delicious, I recommend the Katsu cauliflower, so yummy. The pickled potatoes were a bit too strange for my taste though. If you want guaranteed bliss do yourself the favour of ordering the Ramen.

Incredible!!! Never knew this place existed and was pleasantly surprised. The rooftop area is the best spot with an open area and closed area bar and restaurant. The Raman was a 9/10 for me and I am a fussy Raman person. Food: 9/10 Service: 7/10 Ambience: 9/10

What a unique and great experience at this gem of a place, we sat down on the bottom floor right at the bar. Friendly staff with a great ambiance my friends went too the rooftop for a smoke and I chilled while observing the going ons. With great food especially the steam broccoli I'm sure they can fool any kid too eat there veg and the rest of the food was also above par. Great space and amazing staff ..... Orikato I think that is Thank you in Japanese ☺️.

I've been here multiple times. I've been to the bar, fine dining and the casual restaurant. The bar is really nice, it's a rooftop (half outside half inside) and they have delicious drinks! The fine dining was disappointing. Service was average and food was not very flavourful. Some things were strange like we could not get new chopsticks inbetween courses. The casual restaurant is very nice to just drop in when you dont know where to eat! But my last visit was worse than the ones before lockdown. Like I specifically asked for no onion but still got it. (my last visit was average)

If I could I would award this restaurant 7 stars. We dined at Torii in Tjing Tjing house. Everything was absolutely amazing. The cocktails tasted fresh, flavourful and aromatic and the food was outstanding. Highly recommend the sesame broccoli. The cheesecake was one of the best in Cape Town.

If you are looking for a Japanese inspired bar in Cape Town then look no further than the Rooftop Bar at Tjing Tjing. This quaint bar is located on top of the restaurant that shares it's name and has inside as well as outside seating areas, decorated in a casual Japanese style. Although they have all your traditional drinks, the highlight for me was their cocktail menu and their nice selection of Japanese whiskies that are also available. I can highly recommend the Whiskey Tango or the Sake Sour cocktails. If you would like to taste some of their whiskies feel free to ask for their whisky menu that has various options including a couple from Japan that range from budget friendly to expensive. We also had some dumplings, which were very tasty, and our waitress was friendly and attentive. I highly recommend you give them a try.

Bit expensive, nice atmosphere and food was delicious but it wasn't something to write home about either.

I've missed travelling so much and I'm glad that there are places like this close by to remind us of good foreign food. If you looking for an amazing Ramen Pork Tonkotsu look no further. While I loved their bento boxes for the flavour I did wish they were more imaginative with the designs, all the boxes we ordered looked almost identical and they could have used some colour. The service is great and the menu while a bit pricey was pretty fair for what you got

Immensely good place and brilliant rooftop lift with stunning fire engine red bar. The food is spectacularly good, in particular the cauliflower katsu bao (which could honestly pass off as a fresh cod katsu), and the smoothest mushroom dumplings you may put in your mouth in this hemisphere. They also know how to make yakitori and okonomiyaki fries to perfection. Fantastic and extensive gin cocktails on the menu also

We went to the restaurant on the ground floor, next time we’ll try also the bar at the top floor. Food was tasty and fun, we had lots of starters cause they sounded more interesting than the mains. Don’t miss the fries, the bao bun, the chicken skewer and the cheese cake.

I cannot be more pleased. Tjing Tjing is great in all aspects. We love their drinks, and the non alchohol cocktails are devine! We keep going back for the delicious food. We did thecall in and collect, and what a treat. Such an easy and convenient process. This place is a must visit.

What an awesome experience! Interesting and classy decor, delicious food and the cocktails are to die for! Each option feels like a treasure hunt, and are well made with attention to detail. Will be visiting again. Recommend the Kasai for spicy cocktail lovers!

We went on the last First Thursday of the year and it was really dope. It got packed pretty quickly but we still had a good time. Their drinks are really delicious and the general atmosphere is awesome. Very aesthetically pleasing as well.

How disappointing... I was so excited to have the experience shown on the website. But when we got there, all the rooftop tables were full, eagerly to eat at this restaurant we decided to wait as there were people paying, we just wanted them to leave and we would take their seats. The manager/ waiter gave us some chairs to sit on while we wait, we asked for a menu but then the guy rudely refused to give us one because we were in his way, we didn’t understand, as he told us it’s fine to wait there and gave us seats...And there is always a way to say something...it was no need to be rude! I was so disappointed!!!!!!

Looky here looky here, a Japanese restaurant! In a nice place in town. Oh, and let’s not forget about their roof top bar 😊 It’s a lovely place to chill-lax. And good Japanese Food. Good food, food alcohol and good environment. You’ll probably spend about R250-00 on food, drink and dessert (but this largely depends on what you order and how much you eat etc...) Buuuuut a nice place to take some good photos. Hope you choose this place and enjoy your stay 💪🏻

One of my go-to places in Cape Town. The restaurant (1st floor) has amazing Japanese/fusion cuisine with manga-like ambience and 3rd floor has a rooftop bar with half open ceiling. The cocktails that they make are one of the best that I’ve tasted so far.

From the get go, I was excited to try this place and it did not dissapoint. The food and cocktails were absolutely amazing. Service was quick and staff were super friendly. Only thing that made me not stay longer was the airflow of the 1st floor, it got quite warm as it filled with customers, but other than that I'd definitely go again and recommend to friends and family.

A really delightful Japanese tasting menu at this really well decorated venue in the cbd. I got to have a traditional kaiseki style tasting paired menu at the Momiji. Every dish that I had I enjoyed and it took me back to time spent in japan tasting food like this. Attention to detail and amazingly balanced plates of food. All authentically flavoured, using the best ingredients. I appreciated that each plate was served with a menu card describing the dish we were sampling. Our server was great too with her explanations and with warm interaction. A truly enjoyable experience. I will definitely be going back to try the ramen bar as well, it looked really good too.

Took my partner here for a dinner birthday Japanese treat and wow were we so happy we came here to eat! Amazing food, the best ramen noodle dish we have ever had and everything tasted so delicious! Highly recommend! They were extremely patient with all the emails I was sending and so accommodating and the mochi is amazing! Love the donut and karepan ! Oh and also the best non alcoholic lemon cucumber cocktails I've ever had! Best Japanese street food in CPT. Thank you guys! And for the lovely rooftop time.

We were very very excited to have dinner at Tjing Tjing after reading the great reviews but unfortunately we were left disappointed. My "Arnold Palmer" was soda water with a dash of cherry flavor. The waiter could not understand the concept of ordering our food as starters and mains and just brought everything in one go even after we requested specifically not to. When it came to the food it seriously lacked flavor. My steamed buns just tasted like white bread with mayonnaise, the chili chicken wings were the blandest chicken wings we've ever tasted and the gyoza was tasteless.

Tjing Tjing is our favourite place to dine, even during lockdown. Nothing beats having Japanese cheesecake during a pandemic ;)
