Brilliant salads - best in Cape Town. I have had poor salads with good mains in restaurants and these guys totally nailed it.... I hope they share their expertise with some of the 'high end' establishments because it was amazing. Well thought our, seasoned, dressed and complimentary to their available protein options.

Wow I love this small shop so much. Perfect for breakfast or light lunch. White coffee tastes amazing with somehow sweet burnt sugar scent. Moroccan meat ball was delicious. I will definitely go back for patisserie.

Something to be said about owner run stores. Especially when the product is the owners passion. The General Store is the best food at the best value. Absolute gem of the mother City.

The best lunch downtown. The selection changes everyday so I'm not sure if I should describe my lunch in detail. There were 3 protein choices and about 8 salads. I had sumac chicken and the stuffed aubergine, a Greek salad, sauteed potatoes, and a lentil salad. All excellent. The carrot cake we couldn't resist was outstanding!!!!! Leave room for dessert even if you have to share.

The General Store did the catering at my party. Their canapes were absolutely top notch..every guest raved about them! In addition, the two ladies that prepared the canapes at my house were absolutely amazing - so professional, and went above and beyond to help me at the party. I cannot recommend this place enough!

Such a delightful place. Cannot believe I only discovered it now, my fifth summer in CPT. The space itself is very European feeling, clean and white and comfortable. The staff are warm, professional and welcoming. Prices are very reasonable, salad portions generous and quality extremely high. I thoroughly enjoyed my salad plate (3 for r75) and felt satisfied without any additions, but you can add a protein. They do offer takeaway but get it to stay! Not just to reduce your environmental impact, but to enjoy the dining experience on their lovely crockery. Kudos to The General Store for providing top notch healthy and delicious food at an amazing price point. 100 rand for lunch and Rosetta coffee! Come try.

Ok so I only found this little hole-in-the-wall yesterday and I’ve only had a latte, but I’ve already been back for seconds… this is probably the best coffee I’ve had in Cape Town, great service and delish looking food. Looking forward to heading back and trying the rest of the store!

This is one of my favourite lunch spots in town. The value for money + quality is unbeatable!! I love the friendly knowledgeable staff, the generous portions and the always interesting flavours available. Keep it up girls! Will be back for sure x

The General Store is an institution, for exceptional home cooked food! Lots of fresh ingredients, vegetables and goodness! Each dish is made with love! Highly recommended for lunch! They have sharing plates, where you can share three veggie dishes! Absolutely delicious! 🌿🌿🌿🌿

Great food in an easy environment

It’s one of my favourite places to get a healthy, high quality, and fresh meal for lunch. There are plenty of great options, from salads to quiche, and delicious sweet treats too. However, the coffee could be better.

The taste of home cooked, at a very affordable price. Choose between various combinations of vegetables and a protein like chicken breast or schnitzel, red meat available too. Friendly staff and cosy interior if you want to sit down. Centrally located if you looking for a quick bite to eat. You won’t be disappointed.

The BEST THING EVER. Never disappoints and Colette is wonderful and helpful and always comes through. As for that chicken pie 🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤 - my new deathrow meal. Best option for catering (!!!!), favourite lunch spot, fresh menu and oh! the brownies too!!

Beautiful little place with fresh food

On a recent visit to Cape Town from Ireland we discovered this little gem on Bree Street , it became one of our favourite places to eat . Beautiful , healthy, delicious array of foods , the menu was different every day , really high quality and exceptional value for money, the owner and staff were wonderful, always smiling, happy and helpful . 5 stars to everyone involved.

Super good option for tasty and healthy food. Good coffee too. Was next to our hotel and was the best discovery of the week. We had breakfast once, I order coffee another time and got some take away food 2 days, even though I arrived late and they had ran almost of everything, got to try delicious lemon chicken with salad and pasta and another time breaded chicken with pasta. The magic of apparently simple stuff. Super nice the girl at the counter.

Fantastic coffee, beautiful food cooked with care and high quality ingredients (their granola is nicely balanced with lots of seeds and nuts and not too sweet, served with a generous portion of fruits and their avo toast is generous and delicious). We came here for breakfast every day during our stay in Cape Town and wish we had this place near home!

Lovely food, creatively combined salads. For us, the meat selection was limited. Mostly a takeaway facility, with very restricted seating. Having said that, I feel it is perfectly placed to service the centre of town offices.

Easily one of the best and most consistently excellent little restaurants in Cape Town. I'm blown away every visit by their flavours, presentation and service. The ingredients and ideas are always fresh, and with this place around, I'm never stuck for a delicious AND healthy option at lunch time. Can't recommend enough :)

My go-to lunch spot. Their inventive salads are not only super affordable they are absolutely delicious. It great to grab a takeaway box but unfortunately usually too crowded for a sit-down meal.
