Restaurant Family restaurant Japanese restaurant Asian fusion restaurant

😐 Compared to other Nobu restaurants clearly below average, incompetent waiters, but great location. Lobster course overcooked and beef course nothing to write home about. Overall quite disappointing. People often mention Nobu, experience, service, sushi, restaurant, good, staff, menu, Cape, dining,

The best restaurant I've ever been to. Amazing food. Amazing service. The Fish, Sushi and golden leaf "champagne" sake was very worth it. Beautiful ambience and scenery. Can be loud in tourist season. Can't wait to come again in the future. I ended up tipping the waiter 25% for his fantastic and kind service. I was a bartender at the time and highly respect good service. Photos: 28 February 2020

Nobu lives up to its hype! The ambience. The service. The food. One word describes the experience : SPLENDID! This is fine dining that is worth every penny. Loved every moment.

The food used to be better. The lobster flavours were very unbalanced and overwhelming this time around. Passion fruit creme brûlée was underwhelming. Miso salad and new style sashimi are still great. Highly recommend the rock shrimp 🍤

Exceptional food and great service. The ceviché was beautiful, fresh and acidic. Serving it in a top heavy martini glass makes it difficult to eat with a spoon. A bowl would be more practical and attractive. The langostine salad was the highlight. The cheff agreed to prepare an off the menu dish. Perfectly grilled with a smokey sweet soy and sesame sauce that would have me eat the rocket alone as a main. The tuna sashimi had a complex, yet light soy sauce with hints of citrus. The tempura calamari was light and slightly spicy, with a lingering kick. The delicate lobster portions were served on a bed of vegetables. The sauce resembled a rich and creamy bisque, BUT way way too salty! All in, exceptional food at prices that punch approx 10 - 15% above it's weight. I would add a 5th star if the clinical 90's style dark stained tables get some form of "window dressing" and a deep clean.

I made a reservation for a special dinner to celebrate my partner's birthday. The restaurant's main floor was absolutely stunning and classy. As guests entered the restaurant, the staff welcomed and greeted them in Japanese. We started with lobster wasabi sour creams. It was a small, cold dish. It wasn't my favorite, although that was more of a personal preference than anything else, as my partner appreciated it. We split two dishes for our main course because we had a heavy lunch earlier that day: lobster spicy garlic and chicken anticucho. The lobster dish comprised thick and juicy lobster tails that were cooked to perfection and smothered in aromatic butter. It was served on a bed of Japanese vegetables and came with this exotic-tasting sauce that was ideal for dipping the lobster in. The chicken dish featured succulent chicken cubes on skewers, accompanied by interesting sauces and vegetables. These two meals were delicious. The wait staff was exceptionally attentive and helpful. They noticed that I was struggling to use my chopsticks as a novice to East Asian cuisine and supported me by providing "training wheels" for my chopsticks. This was quite innovative, and it allowed me to get acquainted with an authentic way of eating. For my partner's birthday, the staff prepared a delicious dessert, which we greatly appreciated. We didn't spend much time at Nobu because we were pretty full from our previous outing, but we will definitely spend more time there the next time we visit Cape Town.

The atmosphere is amazing. The ambiance is really nice. With views of the waterfront, the dining is amazing. A reservation is highly recommended to avoid disappointment. I had the lobster tucos. The portion was small, and the taste was decent. For my main, I had the lobster and chicken skewers. These were absolutely Devine. The portion size was decent, and the flavours were distinctive. They provide chop sticks, so dining with these was quite interesting, but you get the hang of it, and if not, they will provide cutlery. As it was a birthday, they also provided a celebratory dessert. I would definitely return.

Slightly disappointed with our meal here. The venue is beautiful and the staff couldn’t be any friendlier. Compared to other restaurants on the VA Waterfront it is expensive, though the quality of the food isn’t on another level. We had several dishes in sushi, beef toban yaki and the Chilean sea bass. All were good, but nothing special. If I was to offer advice I would say go for a few drinks in the bar because the drinks and the ambiance of the venue is special.

Very disappointing. Had the spring menu. Sashimi as first course very nice but then a young spinach salad ???? Next some Nigiri, nice but nothing special. The lamb chops came completely overdone. Sent them back. They came back wright but the rice was cold. The desert was great. You eat with disposable wooden chop sticks 🧐 Lack of sophistication. A hotel restaurant....I find it overpriced compared to many restaurants Cape Town offers

What an absolutely amazing experience we had last night at Nobu in Cape Town. It was my boyfriend and mines 2nd year anniversary and we decided to have the tasting menu. Incredible!!! Can not wait to come back for another special occasion sometime.

Did the Omakase experience. so the first couple of dishes aka the appetizers had some good flavor, but the main dishes and onwards relied on soy sauce for any form of flavor. They were bland and boring, and felt like no effort was put in to actually designing the dish. If I had known that the main was going to be that bad, I would have stuck to the trusted 514 from simply Asia. Also, the dessert reminded me of the breakfast parfait my grandma makes me in the morning

Highly recommend going for 'Omakase'.. this is a 7 course meal where the chef decides what you eat. Very good option for vegetarians/vegans. Fresh sushi.

Compared to other Nobu restaurants around the world, our evening in Nobu Cape Town was very disappointing. Very uncreative processing of average quality products. Also compared to other restaurants in Cape Town, where you can eat really great, Nobu was really not good. Definitely also completely overpriced.

If you looking to waste your money -- go to Nobu If you looking for amazing food -- dont go to Nobu. Go anywhere else Honestly the food is horrible and over priced, I was highly disappointed. Allot of the things on the menu was out of stock. Waiter recommended horrible items too, and the menu did not make sense. Wonderful setting but thats as wonderful as it gets... Worst food I have ever tasted.

Overpriced. R100 bottel wine costs R510 at Nobu. Holden manz Rose... You are paying for a culture experience not the food as far as I am concerned.

Enjoyed the modern Japanese food and loved the plum wine but found the ambience and acoustics of the restaurant uncomfortable. Sound echoes makes one feel like you are in a station building which has no intimacy.

We booked for the canapes but couldn’t resist the dessert. Siba was an amazing host. In fact, all the staff were so pleasant and friendly. The food of course was fantastic enjoyed in such a fantastic setting. Well done to the Nobu team and look forward to visiting when we’re in Cape Town again. The pandemic protocols were observed ensuring a safe environment to dine.

Exquisite fine dinning experience. From arriving at the One and Only to setting foot in the only Nobu in Africa. We felt like royalty. 👑 Our personalized shuttle to Nobu was extra special, the drive was quick and showcased a great amount of the One and Only hotel. The staff is incredible and extremely responsive. The sunset canapes are to die for, an absolute must for first time visitors. The cocktails are crisp and refreshing 🍸 PS if you're really lucky you may get your own Nobu stone 😉

Nobu is a culinary experience that everyone should try at least once! Authentic, fresh Japanese cuisine that is bursting with flavour, is presented well, and in my opinion, is worth the price tag it comes with. We thoroughly enjoyed the tasting menu and also thought that the service was impeccable.

We went to Nobu to celebrate our anniversary as a special treat. The whole experience was perfect. From begging to end, Sky, the waiter explain everything about the set menu that we decided to go for and he was very professional and charming. He also brought us an anniversary dessert dish. We would highly recommend this place. The music was great and the decor.

  • 4/5 Elle C. 6 months ago on Google
We went on a Friday, there's live music from 5pm. It's worth going there before your reservation at Nobu to enjoy a drink at the bar, live music, and a view. We paid R600 to reserve a table. It's worth going through their menu before getting there, unless you're familiar with Japanese food. The portions were small for the price, and our waitress did her best to help us choose our meals.

The most decent sushi in town but still doesn’t really compare to any omakase experiences in Japan. We loved the sake and a few dishes were tasty. It’s rather expensive here but expect no salmon roses and mayonnaise on your food.

NOBU situated in the One&Only in Cape Town near the V&A Waterfront. Exceeding standards in service and taste. All guests are greetings are in Japanese by the staff as new guests arrive. Food is innovative, colourful and delicious, however the truffle rice was stodgy and rich.

Was visiting Cape town on a trip with some friends in March. We went to Nobu for a friends birthday. The first table we got was small so I asked to move which the staff obliged. We went upstairs which was more private and interment which suited us better. The food and drinks were nice and we enjoyed ourselves. We ordered different foods which we shared among ourselves. The waiter was very attentive (Can not remember his name). There was parking underground at the restaurant which was free.

We were so excited to visit Nobu coming from the US where this restaurant certainly has a reputation in New York City. Well I don’t feel like it lives up to the New York City location, we still thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We ordered a few tuna tacos, six different sushi plates and dessert! It is located inside the one and only hotel which is beautiful to see!

  • 1/5 Sumaya L. 3 years ago on Google
Terrible experience!! Will never recommend this to anyone EVER! The place is so overpriced and the food is not even tasty. The food is horrible and we cancelled one order and the waiter still brought it and we had to pay for it. A bottle of water is even overpriced-R100 for one bottle. I wish I would get my money back. I am so sad and this ruined my mood completely.

  • 5/5 Barry B. 3 years ago on Google
An excellent dining experience, from the sunset canapés to the sushi selection and more. The scallops were a definite highlight, but it's impossible to pick just one standout dish. Fantastic service from everyone, and in particular, our waiter Leo.

I wouldn’t even give this restaurant any stars. It is simply awful starting with the highly-priced food to the extremely little food. Please do not waste your money on this place. So we looked at the menu and saw the prices and for the prices we expected that the food would be exceptional and portions would be large but it was horrible. The sushi wasn’t even tasty. I mean they charge R50 extra just to cut the sushi. To slice 6 pieces of sushi i had to pay extra. We ordered the seabass for R700 which firstly is highly priced for a South African fine dining restaurant. The seabass was stale and wasn’t even plated beautifully. It was not even accompanied with sides. It wasn’t even a big piece of fish. The broccoli was steamed and just given to me with a sauce for a high price. I canceled one of the plates but the waiter still brought it to my table. I ate one bite of my handroll sushi and I looked down and my handroll sushi was finished. I dunno if this is a restaurant or they are in the stealing business with high prices and empty plates. I paid R2200 and we were not even filled after eating . We had to order food at our hotel. Never get ripped off at this restaurant. I complained to the manager and they only said sorry but an apology isn’t good enough for money i spent. We hardly ordered any food. And paid a super high price.

A phenomenal experience. Staff seemed well trained and professional. All the food was tasty and perfectly prepared. I had a serving of pork belly that was too dry but it was replaced with a smile and perfect the second time round. The dessert was by far my favorite. I had 3 different desserts and will definitely be leaving more space for more in the future. Thank you for the wonderful experience Nobu!

A pleasant evening Spoilt by bad food. It ended with both my husband and son suffering severe diarrhea. When one goes to a 5 star establishment one does not expect this!

  • 2/5 Niek H. 4 years ago on Google
Nobu restaurant was a total disappointment. Food was poor, service was mediocre and actually I have had better experiences in all you can eat sushi places. The location of the restaurant is special. Unfortunately, that is the only thing that is special. You actually managed to make oysters taste bad. That is nearly impossible. Besides the poor quality of food, we were poorly advised on the quantity of the food, although we asked several times. We ended up with getting 5 dishes served in 15 minutes. Which gave it a fastfood vibe, not star quality sushi. There are really good restaurants in Cape Town. Also really good sushi restaurants. Just avoid Nobu.

(Translated by Google) Amazing food, but bad service. We ordered a tasting menu and delivered the dish without presenting it, came two dishes at the same time when we just ate each other it was cold. Everything to be good, but the service ends with charm.

Nobu used to be my favorite restaurant. Especially the one in Cape Town. Unfortunately it is just not the same high quality. The service and response is slow ( not our direct waiter) and the appearance of the restaurant is poor as there are stains on the floor, seats and such. The only thing saving them is that the food, which was great ! If you are in Cape Town save your money and not far from this place you will get incredible sea food.
